Local chain known for truffle fries serves upscale pub fare & pints of rustic craft beer.
Jolly Pumpkin Café & Brewery in Ann Arbor
Description
Love the sour ales and the truffle pizza is fantastic. Carey Marie was our waitress tonight, very friendly and personal! Thanks Vance
MoreI visited with my husband and my puppy and sat in an patio. However, after more than 20 minutes, no one came to take orders, and even brought water and took the order to customers who sat down later than us. For more than 20minutes, the servers passed by us, but only looked at them and no one even talked to them. We would have understood if they were busy, but there were only four teams sitting in the patio, including us. One waitress even made eye contact with us several times, but only looked and went, and asked nothing. I have had the worst experience, I will never visit there again, and I will tell to people around me about it. To be honest, I dont want to waste even one star.
MoreWe went for lunch and it was immediate seating. We had the sampler beers and they were delicious. We ordered a meat pizza and a margarita pizza and they were unbelievably delicious!!! We will be back!!
MoreReally cool place. Great selection of drinks and the Brussel sprouts were yummy with a hint of sweetness that I enjoyed.
MoreWaited over 90 minutes after multiple assurances our table would be 30 minutes. Manager was defensive. Used to love this place.
MoreIve seen the reviews and been here twice due to my teammates wanting to eat here while in town. The food is better than typical bar food, the beers for my taste are grossly too sour and I was steered away from having the lamb burger for the fried chicken and orzo Mac + cheese. That fried chicken and orzo Mac + cheese was disgusting, cold and flavorless. I put salt, pepper, red pepper flakes and sriracha on both and it was still terrible so I didnt even finish. So disappointed.
MoreThis is the best place for dinner and beer in Ann Arbor. Fantastic service is the norm. Great food, and excellent beer. I really like the sour beers. Upstairs is louder than downstairs. Harder to have a conversation. I just realized today Ive been going here for 10 years. Its still just as good as the first time I went. Staff is always great and the beer is still fantastic
MoreOne of our Ann Arbor favorite spots!! They make their own beer, and have a beer club. The JP burger and truffle fries are a must try!
MoreExcellent food and service. They have really wonderful pizza and salad selections. We found the brussel spouts and Farro salad to be delicious. Great beer too. Had fantastic service which capped off a delightful evening!
MoreI never leave reviews, but after the experience that I had the other night, I felt like I needed to. After the two hostesses graciously sat us at our table, it took ten minutes (if not longerfor our server to come to our table. We actually had to ask a server if someone would come and greet us. Once our server finally arrived, he spoke low, unenthusiastic, and fast, barely taking the time to figure out if we needed anything. The only times he came to our table was to take our order and to drop off the check. Although he passed our table numerous times while taking care of the other tables he had, making eye contact with me as I was attempting to drink out of an empty cup, he never came (nor askedif we needed any refills. It came to the point where we were halfway through our meal, which was lacklustre, that we had to ask the hostess if we could get more water. She was prompt and refilled our glasses, and we were so thankful. Needless to say, I do not believe that I will be returning to this establishment, as I did not feel appreciated nor did I enjoy my experience at any part of the night.
MoreUnfortunately I had to wait almost one hour for my food, food was not great and pretty expensive. The service was pretty slow as well. So can’t really recommend that place to anyone, won’t go there again.
MoreAwful service!!!Host put us upstairs at a 4 seat hightop right in view of waiter station and bar. After 10 minutes and at least 6 staff passing by without stopping we left.
MoreGreat little place for a brew, I had the Hail IPA regardless, nice selection. Food was alright, I did end up taking it to go, probably the reason why the fries were so-so.
MoreLoved visiting! The vegan options they have are very tasty. I arrived a bit after 9pm and stayed until close; my server, Amani, had clearly been working very hard all night but was still so friendly, energetic, and helpful. Ill definitely be back soon!
MoreGreat beer. Great service. Chicken portion on Perfect Fried Chicken sandwich was a tad skimpy (last 3 bites were bun, sauce and cucumber salad, no chickenbut nothing that ruined my experience.
MoreReally nice atmosphere, delicious food. Our server was absolutely fantastic and had really cool braids.
MoreAwesome atmosphere. Great staff and beers. The truffle fries are amazing. The bartender Michelle is my new favorite bartender.
MoreGreat beer, especially the sours. Cool hosts who create conversation. Knowledge servers……but incredibly slow kitchen. Over 90 minutes for a pizza and burger.
MoreIf your kitchen is backed up over and hour and running slow have the decency to tell people before they order instead of letting people sit around for an hour with no idea what’s going on. That’s the most irritating thing you can possibly do to a customer.
MoreThe bartender, Amani, was awesome. I was pleasantly surprised by their variety of sours...Also, I joined the Clean Plate Club with the Soy Glazed Salmon. Delicious. Tip: Order a little extra glaze sauce on the side.
MoreAlways a fun time with friends, especially with my friend Erica! After we kayaked, we stopped by for pizza and drinks. The mixed drinks are meh. I had the tarted up cocktail, which tasted like kombucha and red wine while another friend Luz had a bloody Mary (which we couldnt tell what they mixed with the tomato juice). The pizzas are always good! Jai and Ryan approve! 👍🏼
MoreCome here with an open mind and try some beers that you wont likely find in many places. They execute the beers very well. Bonus, the food is really really good. The nachos we got were life changing. Fun rooftop area (not sure if it was special occasion or not but the road was closed in front with additional outdoor seating). Great attentive staff. Great vibe.
MoreThe food in this place is really good and they do some good artisan craft beers. If you don’t read that and see dollar signs, well , you should. Pints and 10oz drafts of higher ABV beers are $8 and the food is priced as it should be for a good meal. The service was good, but they were out of some of their beers on a Saturday night, and out of some meals. That just seemed odd to me. So, basically if you are looking for a place to hang out and have some beers, go someplace else. If you want a nice meal and a couple unique beers, go here.
MoreGood food and beer, bad service. Food and beer never fails, but when this place gets busy get ready to wait forever for a beer and get very blunt and short customer service.Ordered a beer at the bar while waiting for table and bartender said theyll bring them up to our table. Beer never came and the waitress refused to check with the bar and made one of us to go down and figure it out. She was fairly rude about it too. Essentially we didnt get out beer until 30 minutes after we got there
MoreMy salmon had a wonderfully fresh taste and was cooked just right with a moist center. Thinly cut brussel sprouts and red peppers were sauteed but not overcooked and were perfect with the fish and white rice. Others at my table enjoyed their dishes, too. My wife really liked the quinoa salad with almonds and fresh greens. It was more than one person could eat but others at the table enjoyed helping her finish it off. I was glad to have only ordered the smallest "Tasting" sized glass of Bam Biere which was so sour I didnt even finish the few ounces. The sourness overpowered other flavors that I normally expect to taste in a beer.
MoreGreat food and beer! Seems like their sour craft beer is famous and it was great!
MoreGood vegan options! Bibimbap sandwich was delicious and their fries were perfect. Beer wise, they had a good mix, mostly sours.
MoreThe pizza crust is definitely worth the trip. The vegan options were very good. I only sampled two of the beers but both were enjoyable. If youre in Ann Arbor and you want a gourmet pizza the Jolly Pumpkin should be on your radar.
MoreAbsolutely love this brewery, been to several locations. I think Ann Arbors is one of the most fun. Two story with great décor. Awesome beer of course, but you must try the truffle fries 10/10 and I also tried their truffle pizza amazing 10/10. Good service and fun atmosphere.
MoreNice fries with truffle taste and other food - beer is good as well! Friendly staff!
MoreWould you believe a brewery with a top notch salad? Well- believe it. But all their food is fantastic. One of my favorite go-tos in Ann Arbor, you will not be disappointed no matter what you choose. I love their rooftop for summer with a good cocktail and pizza or sandwich! We’ve been doing takeout because of the pandemic, which of course isn’t the same experience but still loving it. Hot tip: Don’t forget the truffle fries!
MoreVery delicious meals all around! The staff were amazingly helpful, even around the holidays. Quite attentive and always around when you needed something, which is appreciative. The place was tidy and the bathrooms clean as well. Id definitely go again if I were in town! Fire and Smoke pizza was *French chef kiss*
MoreIt’s nice to know this institution is still standing after the pandemic. I hadn’t been back to Ann Arbor for over five years. The beer is still great. The fries are still legendary.
MoreI got the Gamma3Dux double ipa, but it was really more of a cider it red after great and really packs a subtle punch.I got the Perfect Fried Chicken Sandwich - and it is one of the best fried chicken sandwiches that I’ve had in a long time (The Eagle on Cincinnati still #1).The vibe inside is cozy and welcoming. Unique craft beers to try, from pints to flights, pitchers and growlers. DEFINITELY a place to stop by when in Ann Arbor, MI.
MoreGreat trendy place in downtown Ann Arbor with good service and excellent food! Two stories of dining space plus outside seating. Their menu has a wide variety of choices (including kids menu)…this their grilled chicken with Brie sandwich which was excellent; their fries are seasoned perfectly.
MoreMy husband and I enjoyed our experience at Jolly Pumpkin in Ann Arbor. We both ordered pizza (Truffle& Popeye). Sadly there are no pictures since we were so hungry! Popeye was very lemon-y but good. The Truffle was delicious and definitely our favorite. At the end of our meal we ordered warm beignets (pictured). Highly recommend the dessert as well. My husband enjoyed his beer selection- Hail. Our waitress was pleasant and did well taking care of us, we will definitely be back.
MoreGreat selection of brews in a great setting. Neighborhood bar feel with great seating that makes you feel cozy even in a crowded bar. I was a big fan of the Cascara Gose with Coffee Fruit and the Passionfruit Wheat. Wish I was in town longer to taste my way down the menu.
MoreMe and my girl really liked this place. We crushed some nachos and a pizza and sampled about 12 different beers. Service was good and the atmosphere is nice.
MoreTasty, but very small portion sizes for cost ($15). Chicken was very thin and took up less than half the area of the sandwich / had two slices of Brie for entire sandwich.Super tasty though.
MoreOur table of six was great. There wasn’t too many people dining in but it was still a good time. The staff was great and helpful. It was clean inside and cool vibes. The beer and food selection was great and tasty. Easy parking in garage behind building with a short walk down Main Street. The truffle fries are so good. And the JP burger was great. I really enjoyed the pickled cucumber as well. One small concern was food and drinks took a long time. Not sure why cause restaurant was quite empty. But either way we were there to hang out and it didn’t bother us.This was our second time here and we’ll be back!
MoreOne of my favorites! Great local beers...enjoy the vibe...limited food options...but pretty decent...used to be the best truffled fries...but it’s not as food as it used to be....
MoreThis place was truly jolly! I had an awesome time here.- A lot of their beer is sour BUT not all. Great sours if you like sour, but if you dont, some great pilsner and IPA as well. My buddy who really only drinks Coors and Pabst would not shut up about their Pilsner, and he was reluctant to try it.- Get the truffle fried as an appetizer. Seriously, dont miss out on these....- The menu can be a little lackluster looking, because its not like most restaurants with standard entrees but dont let this fool you!!!! The food here is AMAZING and you will be really impressed with the food, the menu does not do it justice.
MoreJolly Pumpkin is a CANT MISS spot to eat in Ann Arbor.Ive been here 5-10 times now and each time reminds me how much I really love it. First up, make sure you get their truffle fries. These fries may just change your life, as theyre unlike basically any other kind of fries, and will leave you craving them until you finally give in and head back to Jolly Pumpkin.JP is also very famous for their sour beers. Make sure to get a flight and try a bunch! The servers here are very good at explaining the beers and making suggestions for ones to try.As far as main entrees, my personal favorite is the lamb burger. Its a fantastic burger and is a Jolly Pumpkin classic, rounded out by the Sour Beers and truffle fries.Keto/ Low Carb-ers: My review above is from my days of going to JP before Keto, but dont worry, you can still enjoy plenty of things on the menu! Definitely stop by and check out the menu even if we have to skip the sour beers and truffle fries.
MoreA nice trendy restaurant with amazing interiors. Their staff is super friendly and makes you feel welcomed. I am a vegetarian and I can tell you that I was spoiled for choices here. They were ready to customize any of their dishes and make it vegetarian for me. The food prices may seem to be on a higher side, but they do make up for it with their excellent quality and above average portion size. In addition to their delicious food, they have quite a good collection of drinks.
MoreGreat food and the staff was friendly however it took the waitstaff forever to bring out our drinks, dinner, and dessert.Edit: gave jolly pumpkin another shot and this experience was much better than the last one. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was amazing, I highly recommend the grilled cheese! Plus they have a large beer selection.
MoreTruffle pizza is superb but the fish tacos were bland. The Thai boxer drink was mixed inconsistently from what I remember. The sour beer is usually excellent but the melosa was overly tart. A little let down with my visit, especially for the price.
MoreThey have some of the best in house beer and food Ive ever tasted from one location. There are lots of great restaurants in AA and there are some good craft brewers but Jolly pumpkin meshes both excellently. I love the JP burger and every sour beer on the menu, definitely one of my favorite spots to eat downtown.
MoreIve been to the Ann arbor location twice, its a great place to grab a quick bite to eat and drinks. The atmosphere is great and draws a good crowd being right downtown, we went for happy hour ordering fries, mussels and a few beers. The food was good as usual and the beers are always fun to taste. The service was great and the girl was very friendly and willing to help us make the right beer choice!!!
MoreBrussel sprouts and truffle fries are amazing, the pizza was ok (looked betterand for the hamburger i would remove the cheese, it is strong
MoreSecond time here. I waited a year to return to Ann Arbor just to return here. Food is excellent. The variety of beer options are good and bartenders know their brew. Good recommendations. And I like that you can get small pours. The best truffle fries ever.
