Upscale steakhouse serving classic surf 'n' turf & wine in a retro, supper club-style venue.
Been here three times, first two we opted to sit at the bar. Super nice bartender who explained and answered all our questions we had on the menu. Left us with a great experience. Came back a third time and sat in the dining area and had mediocre service.Didnt receive bread except the toast with tartare.Waiter put in Steak and Lobster instead of steak and crab. When the crab finally came out it was luke warm to cold - not even room temperature. For $110, I wish I had passed. The NY Strip was medium (asked for med-rareand honestly, felt like I could have gotten that $48 for $16 at Texas Roadhouse. OK experience but will spend my money elsewhere.
Normally this is one of our favorite places to eat in Madison. But our server seemed to have issues this night (08/05/2022).First, he sent me to the wrong side of the restaurant for the rest room. When my $76.00 20 oz. dry aged bone in ribeye came out it was well done. Our server asked why I wasnt eating it and I explained that I asked for medium rare and this is well done. He said, oh I thought you said medium well. I did not eat more than four bites as it was just too over cooked for me. He did not even offer to have a new steak cooked. Before bringing us our bill he stated he was sorry about the steak and that he would take care of it. I thought this meant I would not be charged for the steak, but I was wrong, and I was charged for it. I didnt say anything more of it, paid my bill and still left a tip greater than the standard 20% and left disappointed.(editOn 08/12/2022 I was contacted by a very apologetic manager who stated he was going to refund the cost of my steak and send a gift card to get us to come back.I did receive the gift card but as of 09/27/2022 I have not received a refund.
This place was amazing. Celebrated a milestone birthday and was given the full court press with the server, Dylan, being very attentive and polite. The scallops were fresh and cooked to perfection, my wife had the NY strip and it too was perfect.
Our server seemed under trained. He poured us water. I seriously thought he was the water person not our server. Then he continued to rush us to order. We asked our server for wine recommendations he did not know. Then when we chose a bottle and he presented it to me. He acted like we didnt know what to do. He said Im supposed to do this so you can try it. I lived in Europe and wine country in California. I do know wine and what to do. To be served wine in that manner then never have him come back to refill our glasses was shockingThe wedge salad and oysters were a good start to our meal.I asked for my filet mignon medium well. (Yes I understand well done steak is not a great choice). It came medium at best. We were never checked on during dinner to have this corrected. My significant other really enjoyed his lobster! Our sides came out room temp at best. We had asparagus and the Mac and cheese. The manager did come at the end and asked how was everything but we werent going to say anything at the end of our meal. He seemed to generally care but the server definitely needs more training.Honestly we are dissatisfied with our service and food for the most part.
First visit to Johnny Delmonicos. It was a busy night. While the setting is very nice and the food was very good, our service was deplorable. Our server said it was her first night without supervision, but the basics were lacking. For example - 30 minutes to get a first cocktail, another 30 minutes to get soup once we ordered. The same for each course. I ended up going to the bar myself to get wine for the meal. The server twice blamed their ordering system for "losing the tickets". She also was serving the table next to us and ordered the wrong entree for one of the guests. The host did credit one the wine. This establishment is high end and high priced so you expect top notch service which we did not receive.
Johnny Delmonicos is worth the price. The food is wonderful and the service is excellent. Highly recommend.
Absolutely amazing food and wonderful service. We never leave disappointed
Great restaurant, fantastic food and even better service. Love sitting at the bar as well!
Great experience, felt like we were the only folks in the restaurant.
What I got:-10oz grass-fed sirloin with the garlic mashed potatoes-Crab cake appetizer-An old-fashioned.The good:-Literally the best steak Ive ever had. I went with the marrow butter and mushroom enhancements, and I would recommend the marrow butter to anyone who is adventurous enough to think theyd enjoy marrow.-The garlic mashed potatoes are great, theyre good mashed potatoes with a subtle garlic flavor.-The crab cakes were surprisingly spicy but delicious, though I wouldnt get them again given the chance.-Im not usually a fan of old-fashioneds, but this ones great. Its not harsh at all and very easy to sip throughout the wait and meal. The bad:-The only thing I can think of is that the wait was a tad long, but its genuinely worth it for the quality of the food.TL;DR (Too Long; Didnt Read):The food is amazing, definitely worth the price. Be prepared to sit and eat for about 2 hours.
Private room for a large dinner meeting. Everything was excellent from my perspective - servers were genuinely nice as well as knowledgeable and accommodating of my pescatarian non-dairy needs, drinks were excellent, food was excellent.
While our server was lovely, I did not think my meal was worth the hefty price. The ribeye was small and nothing special flavor wise and the hash browns just okay. I was pleased at the chocolate torte that was included with my meal for it being my birthday. High class ambiance, friendly staff, but food not worth the price.
Went there for our anniversary and had terrible service. Our waitress argued with us about what an old fashioned is and was upset when asked to make it with the ingredients we wanted. Our steaks were cooked medium well instead of the requested medium rare. Wine glass that was ordered before dinner didnt show up at all. After the entree, the waitress brought out our check without asking us if we wanted dessert. We have tried to contact a manager about the service but no one has responded.
Absolutely fantastic. Got a filet with garlic mash and it was perfect. Something very important to me if I go to a nice steakhouse like this one is nailing the temperature. Youd be surprised how often I go to a nice place and they undercook it. Delmonicos 100% nailed it. If I lived nearby, this would easily be my new go-to.
We finally made it and the service and food was wonderful! From steaks, chicken and ravioli - everything was delicious! The Old Fashion excellent! Dessert was a Port flight (I picked the 10yr as my favoriteand then Creme Brulé.. Highly recommend - well be back!
Not what it used to be. So disappointed. This has always been a favorite. Havent been in a few years due to Covid etc. Excited to bring my husband of 3 years for the first time and I had raved about it. Food was mediocre at best. Ordered two appetizers. The shrimp cocktail was good but not worth the price. The steak stuffed mushrooms were horrible. Definitely would not recommend the salmon or rice pilaf. I asked my husband what he liked best and he said the bread. He also said he would never walk in the door again. Your $150 is much better spent elsewhere. Would not recommend.
Over priced, mediocre steak house.Lets start with drinks asked for aperiol spritz waitress said Pinckney spritz. I corrected her 4 times she brought me the wrong drink. We ordered a few appetizers for the table. The crab cakes are great, the beef & tuna tartare are also good. The calamari was like eating rubber bands way overcooked. Steak was ordered medium rare came medium well, really nothing special. Ordered garlic mashed potatoes, tasted like "instant mashed potatoes" with some garlic powder added. Overall not impressed. Pretty sure this place is a one in done for me.
Lovely atmosphere and great food. Steak was a little overcooked.
Our dishes were cooked to perfection. Presentation was elegant. Our waiter was on point. I would definitely feel good about going back.
Food wasnt really seasoned very well. Needed salt but that couldve just been a personal preference. The service was very very slow. I came here to celebrate my sisters birthday and it took them almost an hour and a half to bring out our food after it was ordered. The waiter that was taking care of us, didnt really come back to check on us too often and in order for us to get our check we had to hunt the waiter down and ask for it. Then after asking we waited another 25 minutes before we got our checks and then another 15 before our cards were brought back. I was just expecting a lot more for how much I paid for my dinner.
I can’t NOT leave a review of this place. I’ve been to many (nicesteakhouses on the East Coast and in the Midwest and this has to take the cake. Not only was our server (hi Kerry!amazing, he was funny, lighthearted, and attentive. Kerry truly made our experience memorable. The food - appetizers, entrees, side dishes, and desserts were nothing short of fantastic. Honestly, how did they make hash browns taste so good????I will be back any time I’m in Madison!!!
Waiter was great but the food was overcooked amd lacked any flavor. Asked for my ribeye to be medium with a blue cheese crust on top and I received a medium well ribeye with buttery breadcrumbs on top. I will stick with either Ruth Chris or Carnevor in Milwaukee for my steaks going forward.
Had a wonderful Birthday dinner!! Loved our steaks and the amazing salad!! The Old Fashioned was delicious! Wait staff was very attentive and helpful with our ordering! Will definitely be back!!
Delmonico’s was a treat from the time we arrived. We were sat immediately and the service was fantastic. Their bourbon old fashions were spot on and the steaks were done to perfection and delicious.
Delicious steak, friendly and attentive service, high end cocktails - all for a high price that youd expect from a luxury steakhouse. Listen to basically all of the reviews and get the hash browns! Subtracted one star because at basically $50+ for a steak, it wasnt absolutely melt in your mouth that Ive had before (or made myself).
We went here for my fathers birthday. Loved the staff. I have a 3 month and the hostess offered thier private party room to me if I needed to nurse or change my sons diaper. Which I thought was very generous. The food was phenomenal. Everyone at our table left full, and had to take some to go!
I had a lovely dinner here with my family over the weekend. The service was top tier and the food was excellent.
Food and service were good. Flirting with the bartender was fun. A bit pricey but your paying for the service and atmosphere.
Great food. The bartender, Bobby is amazing! We ate dinner at the bar and he made our entire evening wonderful. His drinks are all out of this world, perfect!
We made reservations on Tuesday night for our 8 years wedding anniversary. It was very busy night so we were glad to have a reservation.Took long for the food but worth the wait! Professional wait staff, elegant decor (white line tables, high-back tufted booths, nice ambiance etc.)We had yummy Ahi Tuna and oysters for the appetizer,Oysters was very small but they were saving in huge platter lol 😂Also the lobster bisque which were good too.Of course, the star of the meal, were the steaks. My husband had a rare dry aged New York strip that was Cooked a perfect medium rare and the texture was great.I had Seared scallops for dinner which was incredibly tender with a great searMy lovely Daughter’s had deliciously Wisconsin Mac & cheese 🫕Oh my goodness! We also got dessert Cheesecake with cherries on top, chocolate bomb with vanilla ice cream which was fantastic!I have been here at Johnny Delmonicos Steakhouse before maybe about 7 years ago?.. back then the food was ok the services was fine but Now! I’m so impressed with the food ,they’ve been a lot of positive improvement 👍I’m sure, we will come back again.
Amazing evening had by all, totally fell in love with this place! Amazing staff and Chefs ❤️ So blessed to be able to personally thank the entire kitchen staff, wow. Than you Jonathan for making that happen, so honored...truly!!!
I’ve been here probably 20 times in the last 8 years. I’ve been to every steakhouse in town and this is my favorite by a mile. Only one time out of my 20 visits was the meal not cooked perfectly, the waiter instantly checks in on you, and saw that my food was not tier 1, and asks if I would like it redone. No hassle, didn’t make me feel bad for not having it perfect to my liking, and quickly replaced the error. I will never stop coming here.
The service is outstanding, truly one of the few places where the guest is all that matters. We chose Johnny Delmonicos to celebrate our anniversary, and boy, we are glad we did. They gave us free complimentary glasses of wine and dessert, totally not expected. The service was really good, the waiters were so aware of every need, almost like if they anticipated our thoughts. They truly brought the standard back to what real dedicated service should be, not using the old sad excuse of Covid and being shorthanded as most places do nowadays. The food is delicious, most definitely come here again to celebrate any special occasion.
Johnnys was our first stop before a show at the Overture Center. Our server was very personable and we chatted about visiting Johnnys about 20 years ago for the first time. We started with the blue crab salad and French onion soup, which were wonderful. They made the effort to split these for us. I got the ribeye steak, which was prepared just right. The cheesy, shredded Brussel sprouts are an adventure in indulgence! Just a couple of drawbacks: my hashbrowns were a bit overdone and we never got bread at all. I hope to be able to give 5 stars next time!
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful meal last evening. Cocktails were exquisitely prepared. Each course was deliciously prepared and perfectly presented. Enjoyed stuffed mushrooms, french onion soup, petite steaks, crab legs and scallops.Met Keith Borland is a wonderful host, who ensured a very pleasent dining experience.Well done!
Probably the best steak house in Madison. We started with the stuff mushrooms and oysters which were great. Our steaks were cooked exactly how we requested and our baked potato & French fry sides were very well seasoned.
We stopped by last night without reservations; we had the BEST dinner weve had in a long time! We have had their steaks many times. Always great. But last night, we both opted for Steak Diane. Wow, this presentation of steak is absolutey excellent! We highly recommend it. This is a refined restaurant with excellent food and staff. Amanda took great care of us, and Natalie at the bar provided great drinks. You cant go wrong here at this sophisticated restaurant.
Any place that serves high quality steak and bearnaise gets high marks. This is a classic steakhouse and a great location.
The price is expensive but well worth it. The food and service are outstanding. I have been here 4 times now and thoroughly enjoyed each one! Our most recent visit was not on par with previous ones (service was still excellent and hash browns incredible but steaks and sauce could have been better). Id still recommend as long as you dont mind the price tag.
My boyfriend and I went here for our 2 year anniversary. The food was phenomenal. The best steak I have ever had. The free bread they give out is amazing as well. The only regret I have is not have enough room for dessert. If we are ever back in Madison, we will come eat again.
So, so, SO good! The steak I ordered was perfectly medium rare, the outside was crisp with delicious flavor. Honestly just went crazy ordering options like the shrimp cocktail, a Cesar salad and several sides to share. Everything was so good, and the dessert was also delicious. By far a great experience, and the waiters and staff were extremely friendly and respectful. Such a great spot! 10/10
Excellent service. Steak was too charred and fatty for my liking so I mentioned it to (Amanda waitressshe said Would you like to try a different steak, I said sure, filet came out and there were no char marks as they baked it in their oven, it was okay but definitely lacked flavor.
I had a delightful time last night at Johnny’s. Though the restaurant was crowded with guests, the wait staff were quick, friendly and helpful. My steak was delicious, perfectly seared with a consistent pink color in the middle, a delightful medium rare.Definitely planning to return.
Filet mignon was delicious, as were the scallops. Hash-browns were hands down the best I’ve ever had. Fries and brussels sprouts were delicious sides to share at the table. We had a very friendly waiter who was helpful and fun to chat with!
Excellent service, great ambiance, atmosphere, and great food! What else do you need?!Aged steak was the best and tartar!!!melts in your mouth!!
Great place for appetizers or a nice meal. Really enjoyed the Asian fried calamari and the cherry smash cocktail. Our server Cynthia was amazing!
Great food, terrific service, very relaxing atmosphere. Our server, Dominic, was terrific. He provided fantastic recommendations, was responsive to our requests, and was generally affable and thoughtful. My steak was cooked to perfection, the mashed potatoes were probably the best Ive ever had.
We went here to celebrate Mothers Day the Monday after, reservations were easy, and the ambiance was upscale but not stuffy. The food was fantastic (we all had steaks of one kind or another). One potential downside for families is there isnt a kids menu, though several side dishes would appeal to kids. This will probably become our defacto place to go for steak.
I went with the crab-stuffed rainbow trout. It was amazing, though I should have went with a steak. Everyone at my table had steaks and were very impressed with them! Service was great as well, but the steaks truly melt in your mouth.
Came in with my wife for happy hour, enjoyed wonderful apps and shared some beers. Ahi tuna, beef tartare, and calamari were all in point! Crab cakes were delicious, but the slaw was a little weird (not bad though). Atmosphere was great, nice medium level jazz music, appropriate for quiet conversation. Staff was friendly and mostly professional. 5/5, would dine again.
