Open for tours & rentals, this circa-1766 mansion also houses a Civil War historical society.
We hosted our 60 person wedding at the Mansion in October 2022 and had a wonderful experience. Steve and the rest of the HSDC staff are knowledgeable, kind, and accommodating. We and our guests really enjoyed learning the history of the Mansion and of the area while celebrating our wedding. It’s a beautiful building, and I would highly recommend a visit if you’re in town for the day or booking it for your next gathering!
Such a unique place. Lots of history here
We had our wedding here and was marvelous.
Great place to learn about history of Harrisburg. You might want to reserve time for guided tour. Our guide was really awesome. He seemed like knew about the place for long time. We had great time when we watched all the detail historical furniture there. It is really amazing that everything in there is been well maintained such a long period of time.
Great place
We thoughouly enjoyed our tour yesterday. Our guide was very knowledgeable and obviously passionate about the history of this majestic house. If you have any appreciation of history, architecture, fine art and furniture etc...you will enjoy. Thanks to the Harrisburg historical society.
Very cute house. There is a parking lot but it is hard to find. It is on a one way street coming from main street and it is at the back of the house. The guide was very knowledgeable and engaging. Would recommend for anyone interested in Harrisburg history.
Beautifully preserved historical mansion on the bank of the Susquehanna. Jenny, our docent was knowledgeable and a pleasure to tour with.
Beautiful
The restorations are top quality.
Fascinating history, great reading of the Declaration of Independence!!
Our guide was very informative, and interesting even to two teenagers! It was very educational and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour!
Awesome historical site to visit. Went on tour - a lot of cool historical items on display
Beautiful
Great piece of history, and the classic bathroom upstairs is a room that was definitely before its time
You must go there to know history.
Visited back in 2007 or 2008. Harrisburg historical society was based here. I asked a question about a Native American buried next to John Harris across the street. They confirmed what I had heard. Just happens to be my 5th Great Grandfather. While unmarked its the oldest (1754grave of an ancestor Ive been able to find.
Our visit today was lovely! Staff and tour guide were super friendly and welcoming. We were the only ones on the tour, so it was as if we had our own private tour. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and was willing to answer any questions you had. You do have to pay an admission fee but its worth it, they are doing an incredible job with maintaining this beautiful mansion. The office can be located behind the mansion, you have to go there first.
Steve our docent was spectacular. He was very informative and spoke quite fluently about the history of the house, its former residents and the surrounding area.He took us through the rooms as if going back into a time machine. As we entered into a different section of the home we entered a different period of history.Steve is an excellent guide who you will enjoy listening to. One more thing, he will tantalize your mind with a fee audio and visual treats.
Lovely venue and antiques everywhere!
Pretty cool
Very traditional Arabic restaurant with delicious food
The young woman sitting at the desk didnt bother to look up when I entered the building to sign in for the tour, but another woman quickly came up to greet me and was very helpful...and friendly. The mansion is beautiful and transports you back in time. The tour was informative and the tour guide had the answers to all our questions. There were renovations being done to bring the mansion back to a period true state and we cant wait to come back to see how the changes come out. The free parking was a nice surprise after paying for parking for our other stops in downtown Harrisburg.
We arrived at this beautiful mansion that faces A huge river, very beautiful area, unfortunately the view almost makes up for the rude behavior of A staff member, the historian we had was knowledgeable and friendly but the rest of the staff ruined me ever wanting to come back this was A disappointment after anticipating this tour for months I hope others have A better experience and some staff learn to choose their words A bit better
Event was a re-enactment of the first public reading of the Declaration Of Independence. Train, plane and automobile traffic occasionally drowned out the speaking, but the event was well informed, well executed and well oriented. The tour of the mansion was also well done. A good way to begin our holiday activities.
A wonderful infusion of history awaits you on this tour.
Unorganized staff and tour was not informative or interesting. We tour a lot of historic homes and were so disappointed with this one.
This was interesting and it was historical!
Beautiful mansion truly a gem of Harrisburg.
Beautiful interior design and history, it might be a bit tighter in the inside but its well worth it to see.
Awesome historic mansion. Great venue for an event
Beautiful home. Great view.
Great history and beautiful home.
If you like history, then youll probably like this place
Nice local historical site
As a member of the Harrisburg Academy family, I loved my visit to this historic home.
The guide for this house was very nice and very knowledgeable. It was interesting to learn some of the history of Harrisburg and the house was very nice. There is parking behind the house through a couple narrow alleys.
We showed up on a day they werent giving tours not realizing but were vacationing in the area so didnt check. We stopped by the office to see if they could recommend any similar attraction. The woman said she was not an official tour guide but wanted us to see the house. She took us through and showed us everything and explained what she knew of the history. Our young children were with us so not getting a really long boring history lesson was just what we needed. What a great time we had on our private tour. The woman didnt want to charge us since shes not a guide. She could have fooled us. I googled the tour cost on me phone while we were finishing up and paid her the full cost. So grateful for her time. A wonderful asset to the property. We could tell she loves her job.
Making a come-back! Going to be magnificent!
