John Dory's Golden Horse Casino in Pietermaritzburg

This John Dory is the best and the only one I would go to when we are staying in Pietermaritzburg. They serve the best taste and freshness. Even when they offer their complimentary popcorn as a pre-starter!The one negative is their service can be a bit slow on busy nights on the weekends.

Was a gr8 experience with helpful staff who make any meal time a pleasant one 😋

The service was absolutely abysmal. Kids got their food close on an hour before the adults, and one of the adults meals came 10 mins later. There were people who came in after us who had finished their meals before we got ours. The waitress was rude on more than one occasion. And Im still waiting for my side salad.

The waitress we had was soo sweet and well spoken!.... the food was very tasty

Their specials are so good that you would never eat at home if you had the time. Love their creamed spinach and butternut.

5 off us had the R119 platter each. Nice meal. Many options. This John Dorys very neat, clean in a lovely complex with plenty parking, very safe. Staff friendly waiting for you at the entrance. Even the milkshakes is recommended

Good tasty meals unfortunately the helpings have decreased since our last visit. We used to go to the Liberty Mall John Dory outlet because of their stingy helpings we stopped going there . We then came over to your place because your portions were value for money then. Unfortunately its not the same anymore. No wonder your dining area is almost never full like before.

All was good except for the spinach was too salty for me but everything else I ordered me and my family enjoyed 100%

The staff are friendly, swift and helpful. The food was excellent and the menu is pretty versatile.

Service was terrible. Waiting long to get the attention of a waiter, I was just off work and came in looking like a begger I guess thats why they were like that to me

Very disappointed with the service that we experienced today... Got there at 13h15 ordered drinks and a kids fish and chips as well as some sushi... Drinks and kids order received in about 20min...an hour passed so we asked the waiter to call the manager she immediately replied that our sushi was on its way. 10min later the manager came we explained that we have been waiting way too long, he was willing to take over the service but by that time we were not impressed and decided to pay for the kids meal and leave without eating. We always go the the JD at the mall and never experienced this there.

Delicious sushi, but the waiter lacked some etiquette. All the orders were quickly dumped on the table without eye contact and she then rushed away without asking if there is anything else she can get us. This happened three times. The restaurant as nearly empty and she wasnt busy, would just stand somewhere else and chill.

Usually eat at john dorys every month service is great but on this occasion the prawns were extremely small and the heads were black which was very off putting. Tried complaining to the manager who said He cant do anything as the entire batch that got delivered has black heads. Disappointed

Good sushi for Half price Wednesday. Got very busy but the staff tried their best to keep up with orders. Highly recommend going early on a Wednesday.

Always great food and staff. Our favourite. Husband birthday tomorrow so took him to lunch today.

I love seafood so it was easy for this place to win my heart. The food is tasty and the portions are large. The atmosphere is a mix between that of a fast food and a restaurant. The service is also very great. I have been there a couple times and Im sure il call again soon!

Friday evening I was on my own for dinner and decided on JDs. It was extremely busy and when waitress Mazuma attended to me I could see she was busy and running as I could see by the sweat beads on her her forehead indicating to me that she was constantly on the move. My drinks order and food order was delivered to expectations and the food was excellent beyond my expectations. Thank you to the chefs and Mazuma for creating a wonderful experience for me!

Im not much of a sea food fan so I had grilles chicken breast which tasted really good. (I know, I know why go to a sea food place and not have sea food.Anyway, good place for non-sea food eaters too. ;)

Mesmerizing place, amazing staff, ohhh!! How can I forget about the deliciousness of the food we ordered...

Went there yesterday with my friend and her boyfriend and her family. We ordered the food which took roughly 45 minutes to arrive. My friends mom found a hair in her food. It wasnt even on top of the food to say that it floated and fell on top, no. The strand of hair was actually in between the chips on her plate. The manager sorted it out for her.My friends boyfriend had ordered the hake tramador (thermador? Yeah, that thing), which included mussels. Before we got home, we had to stop because he started throwing up. We had to take him to hospital as we didnt know what caused the vomiting. We are lucky that he is alive.

Good service and very good sushi, portions and presentation were on point and they went out of the way to make one more plate for my wife at closing time. lucozade you can be proud of this team! Keep flying the flag team!!

Very bad customer service. Management not helpful. The previous time the food was cold.When I say cold, I mean fridge cold. Why is the service so bad. Is the owner not checking on the staff. You cant blame management. This is a franchise holder problem. Only reason why it surviving is because of the Casino. That will change. Covid has made people spend wisely and franchise holders are in need of good spending customers.

Didnt have a lot of options when looking for non alcoholic beverages, however we had a very helpful waitress. Food was good.

After my unpleasant experience at John Dory Gateway for Valentines day,with cockroaches running on my table and scales on my fish🤮,I was pleasantly surprised by the Golden horse casino John Dorys ,,so clean ,,not a bit of dust in sight , staff so friendly,,,our meal took awhile though,,that was the only negative thing,Well Done!!!🎉

Seafood was excellent. Waiting period was surprisingly shorter than I expected with the amount of people there. Service was good and efficient, however, our garlic roll (more of a bunseemed to be expired and had visible traces of mold.

Service pathetic, restaurant only had 4 tables occupied yet service was so slow waited 45mins for simple food. Specials were not communicated to us. Sushi was revolting, fish was tasting terrible, we all were nauseas when we got home. We will never ever go back.

Great service. Fresh sushi. Really generous on wasabi, etc. Rainbow platter is fun to share for those who have never had sushi too. The ribs are tender and lightly basted. Portions are larger in real life than the menu photos. Thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance with my family.

We were greeted with a very warm welcome. Ambience was great, aircon was little too cold but upon our request they sorted it out. Service was excellent and food absolutely scrumptious. Will definitely visit them again. Thank you John Dorys, for a lovely lunch.

Great servers, friendly and willing to suggest customers favourites on the menu. The environment is also calm and welcoming. The food was delicious. My go to place for sushi (Half-Price Sushi Wednesdays).

My waitress was very friendly and did a great job taking care of us despite it being very busy when we were there. Unfortunately Ive forgotten her name🙃she also was very knowledgeable in the sushi department and as a first time sushi eater Id like to say Ill be back soon for more.

Had sole fish chips salads & Johnny walker red whiskey. My waiter was Rasta he was excellent deserved the large tip I gave him. All the staff were pleasant & everyone just wanted to assist. Thats what u call service excellence. Well done guys.

Nice place to eat inside the casino. Staff is very courteous and fast. Prices are outstanding and the food is good. I liked the sushi plates a lot. Ambient is average and music is OK. They advertise to have wifi which is normally not working, but thats just a minor nuisance.

The service at this restaurant is atrocious especially when it’s half price sushi day. Be prepared to wait up to 90 minutes to get your meal. On Wednesday’s the restaurant is very busy. I would recommend that you don’t go for half price sushi as a big group.

The food is really delicious. I really enjoy the sauce at john dorys compared to the sauce at ocean basket. However i do have a bit of an issue with the size of their prawns and calamari. The prawns and calamari are a bit smaller in comparison to ocean baskets. The food is a bit pricey sincing the size of the prawns and calamari are small. The service is good and the waiters are friendly and always attend to your needs. The decor is very beautiful and more welcoming.

The service was amazing and I really enjoyed their food. They use Paper Straws.

The food is great, I always enjoy specials by John Dorys Golden Horse Casino. But I am not impressed with the POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE I received last evening. I was dining alone and my waitress hardly checked up on me, she seemed way too busy for me and hardly even smiled. I felt like an inconvenience for a service I am paying for. I was also under the impression that the place closes at 22:00, but at 21:00 pm the waitress were already literally seeping the floor around me while eating. That is disgusting and rude!!. But maybe not all John Dorys are like this.
