Stadelhoferstrasse 28, 8001 Zürich, Switzerland, Zürich (Kreis 2)
Modern counter-serve bakery serving artisanal breads, sandwiches & pastries plus coffee & take-out.
Extremely tasty selection of croissants, organic and biodynamic breads etc. A bit expensive for the sandwiches but overall my favorite bakery in the city!
In heart of Zurich old city, John Baker is a nice place for croissants especially for chocolate ones. There is a place to sit outside on side of the street where you can sit and eat. Coffee is also good here. As John Baker is famous, if you get in late you might not get your choice of bread!
Organic bakery with plenty on offer here. Little Pricy, yes, although justified with quality ingredients. Staff were very friendly and informative to us whom only speak English. Plenty on offer here.Raw Milk on offer here was a huge win.
Very tasty chocolate croissant, BUT 12 CHF for a tiny sandwich with a few mushrooms à la BBQ and exactly one salad leaf is just ridiculous. I could have had two for that price with a lot more ingredients on it in any other bakery in Zurich. So that‘s a no go. (took 3 bites before taking the pic)
Your average non-European tourist might consider their bread to be excellent. Locals will point you to at least 2 bakeries within 750 meters that are demonstrably better and arent demanding a hipster-hotspot premium. The bread is good, not great. The chocolate lye croissants could choke a horse and kill a pony. The brioche are dry and in search of flavour.
Did John Baker stop caring? Sad… From great bakery to bad coffee and bad croisant…and it gets smaller everyday! not the price though
Always loved this place as was on my way to work in the mornings but after moving to the other side of the city I use the one in Helvetiaplatz. However today I went to Stadelhofen and the lady serving was probably the rudest person i have ever been served by
Worth a visit! Sit in the courtyard and enjoy fresh baked bread, sandwiches, pastries, coffee.
I recommend brioches and hard breads than croissants.
Really love this spot! I always get a loaf of sourdough, but have enjoyed everything Ive tried, including cake, sandwiches and pastries.
Sandwich very tasty. Look forward to the opening at Bahnhofstrasse
Be sure to get there early for the olive buns and the chocolate hazelnut croissant. There’s also a coffee counter
Mmmmm best butter croissant in Zurich.
I write my review here, because when I contacted the social media account, from the no answer received, I assume they were not interested in direct feedback there.I frequently shop at both outlets in Zurich, but mainly at Stadelhoferstrasse. My overall rating:(+)• Best bread in town. No doubt!• The staff is very kind.(-)• The pastry products (tried several times, different onesare way under expectation. They were basically dry. (@10-11am visitThe brioche with chocolate has a piece of dark chocolate baked in it, which gets hard again when it cools.. at least please develop a creamy ganache into it. The croissant/gipfeli was also very dry. The nuss zopf is really not the best I have ever eaten.• Some of the prices are a bit high. 10 CHF for an egg salad sandwich..• I always buy a lot of things, and when I need a bag to take it away, I always got a wrinkled ugly used paper bag. I understand the counsciousness about the envirinment.. but please then invest to a branded proper paper bag from recycled paper.. I am happy to pay for it.I hope my feedback is valuable to you.Cheers, Erika
Best brownies in town. The schoggie gipfeli is amazing too, but you need to arrive early to receive one. They are quickly sold out. The coffee and capuccino is also very good.
I’ve been to both locations and found the selection of the highest quality and delicious. Service was swift and attentive.
I love their bread, especially the tomato bread from July. A bit pricey though.
A bit pricy but it offers the best bread in town.
The bread is tasty and the price is reasonable.
Most probably the best bakery in town with a wide selection of excellent breads. Attitudes towards paying customers vary from being very friendly and helpful to being downright stroppy, rolling eyes and making side comments.
I take some Croissants on my way to work. Recommend this place who value fine taste. Cheers
Best bakery in Zurich by a stretch. I usually go for the choci gipfeli, gipfeli mit kernen or one of the roggen sauerteig breads. One downside is the coffee is not gourmet but cant have everything!
Nice touch to have someone sell pastries etc. outside in the morning. Makes the croissant to have on the go really easy!
Lovely shop but mislabeled on Google Maps as having gluten free options - please update! I walked really far for this 😂
Excellent bread and croissants. I wish they had some savoury pies and small salty bites as well.
Tasty food, friendly service - what more do you want?!!
Love your bread! Great to see a bakery taking a lead in Zurich with specialty coffee. Keep up the good work.
Small but excellent selection of sandwiches, cakes and bread. Also make fresh juice in glass jars, granola pots, bags of granola and other goodies. No seating inside (it is fairly smallbut there is a square outside where you could sit. Friendly staff. A great place to go to pick up lunch!
Wrong stop for coffee. It was awful. The smell of the place was nice though I’m sure they’re good at bakery not coffee but I haven’t tried any.
They produce the best granola ever! Also, the most expensive I have ever seen in my life.
I am constantly travelling and I always seek out great breads all around the world. The sourdough and seeded loaf were some of the best breads I’ve ever had. They inspired me to want to make my own and I may just try to purchase some starter from them!
Shoutout to the kind staff. The bread is also amazing and the choice is unique. Keep up the great work!
Best Bread and friendly Staff and good Coffee
Good but expensive bread. I liked their flavorful Ruchbrot, but personally couldnt appreciate the raisin breadling. Will return every once in a while when in the city / area.
Great variety of Breads and snacks. Perfect quality, friendly staff!
One of the top 3 bakeries in Zurich. Love the Nussbrot, the Vollkorn Kernebrot, and the Weissbrot. Pretty good baguette, but Sedi and Hausammann are probably better.
Amazing bread of all types. In November, you must get the superb bacon-onion bread. Seriously...it is *awesome*. The shop is super convenient to the Bahnhof Stadelhofen, so its really easy to reach. I go here at least once a week.
Great Coffee; Gourmet Bread; & Great way to start the day.
Bread bread and breads all the ways. A bit expensive but this is zurich. I like their salty ones, like olives bread. Location’s nice, right at the train station.
We love John Baker for bread and sandwiches to go. Took SBB to Lausanne yesterday and packed their sandwiches and wine. Made the train trip so much more fun. They will make you any combination to order.
This bakery specializes in breads and rolls. There is a limited choice of pastries but the breads are amazing. I have tried fruit rolls and olive bread and both were the best I had in my life. Especially olive bread - if you have a chance to try it, go for it - there are lots of olives inside and the bread is extremely crispy.
They actually have really nice sandwiches - and even two vegan variations!
I dont know a better bakery in Zurich than John Baker. The bread with thick crust is amazing!
Awesome sandwiches and croissants! We havent tried breads yet, but well definitely go these days :You can also buy (and tryamazing olive oil!
Bakerman is baking bread - the Bread is excellent and we have not expected such a good BREZEL and the Brioche with Chocolate is gorgeous.
The best bread in town! Try the Roggen Sauerteig in the morning with a fresh crust.
Excellent bread and tasty sandwiches. Good coffee too. Friendly staff, great atmosphere. Quality and prices well balanced, would go again.
Good selection of bread, very friendly staff. The croissants left a great deal to be desired. Prices are a bit on the steep side too.
John Baker is my favorite place for anything bread-related: Nussbrot is amazing, and olive bread just tastes so good. If you are in Zürich, and want an awesome bread experience, go here.
Best fruit bread I have ever eaten. The fresh juices and muesli are also fantastic. Definitely worth a visit!
