Jochheims Pies - Bakery in Bowen, Australia
Limited choices of bakery items for my european taste. Very similar to a bakery in the usa
Sausage roll half cooked, coffee cold, puffed pastry a thing of the past, but the salad rolls yum.
Got a cream horn, surprised and disappointed that it wasnt real cream. Mock cream in this store.
Always called into this place on our many trips north for its quality bakery items. This time closed at 1:00 when the sign says 2:30, and its no longer open on weekends at all. Very disappointed. I was told it has changed hands recently. Lets hope its not a sign of things to come. It has always been a Bowen institution.
Got here just before 12 noon and disappointed to find hardly any cakes and no vanilla slice😏 no rolls or bread either.
We stopped here to grab a pie. Although they were fresh out of pies. We did pull on late around 230pm. The staff were really imformative and friendly in pointing out other locations to eat. They pointed out a great l8cation on flag staff hill. It was a great location to eat and take in the views. Thank you very much for the information staff at the pie shop.
Fantastic Bakery which is very popular with locals and visitors alike. Big variety of slices and small cakes, pies, sausage rolls and breads. Great coffee and there is places to sit both inside and outside to enjoy your eats.
Nice sausage roll bun and latte, very good.
Nice staff. Very busyCoffee was good as was the sausage rollPies were ok not worth the $6.50
Nice flavour which I would expect for the price as they aren’t cheap. Unfortunately the pies are really messy, pastry breaks apart and the inside goes everywhere.
The beef pie was nice sausage roll was Burnt and not very nice the selection for pies and cakes was very poor
The service and food here is excellent, no wonder its busy. Decor is delightful in the seated area, outdoor dining available too.
Loved the apple pieVery generous iced chai (got ice cream, cream and chocolate powder!!! )Really indulgent holiday treat
Omg delicious pastries & great coffee followed by awesome service & clean dining area, we will be definitely back.Thank you for the great experience 🙂
Square pies 🙈. Not a fan. The beef pie is mince, lots of gravy causing the pie to fall apart as too mushy.
My new favourite vanilla slice! And the coffee was good too. Lovely people who seemed friendly with all. Husband enjoyed his cream bun. Its been many weeks on the road since weve had real cream....yum.
Good for Bowen, but not as great as the pies from Fairbairn Bakery on Clermont in Emerald. Sorry.
Absolutely amazing home cooked pies. Loved it.
Soooo good. Our beef Pies plus my daughters apple pie were the best Ive had in a long time 😋
Peas and pie just like the SA pie floater!Apple pie was next level.Well done
Not far from home. I love the vanilla slice. So good with a cuppa tea. Everything is worth a stop.
If a pub closes at say 11pm then they serve drinks until 11pm. Seems coffee shops operate on different principles. This place claims to be open until 2:30pm on weekdays. Yet if you turn up at 2:15, as we did, they have stopped serving tea and coffee! So why not be honest with your opening times and do your cleaning after you have closed. We were not the only ones here, someone else was turned away disappointed as well.
Great pies and cakes. Very popular place and I can see why.
Great coffee and best pies Ive had in forever!! Definitely worth deviating off the highway for a break.
The kind of place you hope to stumble upon. Hearty sandwiches and truly freshly baked goodies. Do yourself a favour and pull on over!
The best salad wrap I have ever had... big callGoing into a pie shop as a vegetarian is some times difficult BUT staff here told me every veg option and all so offered to make me something if there was nothing I liked ....Staff 10 out of 10Food 10 out of 10
This shop is awesome, in all areas.Very well with the visit for got n cold foods, sit down available, inside n out.Cold drinks, fiz in milks.Friendly staff, personally been visiting this shop over the past 10 yrs.Follow the signs it leads U to the shop, n CBD so hand y to other shops also. 👍Plenty of parking, plus vans on the tow.Wont disappoint .🤗
Worst pie we’ve ever had and then some, all dough with barely any filling that tastes like it’s been sitting there for days. Would not recommend!
Best pasties Ive had in Qld anywhere, friendly staff, good service, food presented very well, iced coffee to die for. It was a pleasure to visit again, will be a regular stop for me. 👍🍻
An amazing oasis amongst a desert of cafés in downtown Bowen. Here I am, desperate for a coffee and some breakfast… and I came across this bakery. Could not believe how busy this place was. The peak hour queues at around 10am to get served lasted for almost an hour. And everybody was so calm and friendly.I don’t know what they do or how they do it, but I know their pies were nice, and the vanilla slice was fresh. And the servers were very pleasant .Locals like coming here for their breakfast and lunch sandwiches.
Good ham and salad rolls. Great coffee. Friendly staff. Just as well because there isnt much choice of take away in Bowen.
Bedlam at the bakery at 12.30 on a Thursday, friendly staff coping really well😁 . Thought crikey must be good 😋, but unfortunately plain pie was average and meat and vegie pasty was one third fried onion. The cakes and slices looked great!
Called in Saturday for bread, bread rolls, coffee and sausage rolls. The bread, coffee and sausage rolls were lovely, however we were charged $7 for a packet of 4 cheese and bacon breadbuns which is $1.75 each.Considering the amount of cheese and bacon, we were very disappointed. Will not be back here which is a shame. Products are good but getting overpriced.
I was there today at 12.40 on a rainy, windy cold day and they had sold out of pies. Only a few sausage rolls and party pies. I can’t believe they didn’t realise that on a day like today they would be busy. So many people coming in and disappointed like me. I managed a bakery for years and I would’ve been terribly upset with my staff for not having more pies as backup. I ended up having a coffee and apple pie which was lovely. The lady making the coffees a great job thanks.

Good range of vegetarian options, fantastic lentil vegetable pie. Would ask that pies don’t come in polystyrene boxes, and sandwiches not with gladwrap, but otherwise wonderful. Such friendly and accomodating staff, lovely open, busy cafe and would absolutely recommend and would absolutely return!
Was lucky enough to try their Thursday Special Prawn Pie! The mango chutney pie was "ok" But what was really great was their coffee ☕☕
Didnt really live up to expectations. Had heard alot about the place but we found our pies to be luke warm with chewy pastry. There was plenty of choice and the staff were friendly but definitely had better pies.
Beef & Chorizo Pie was very tasty w big chunks of Beef through-out. Wifes mixed meat roll was fresh, tasty and made for a tradie. No wonder they were almost sold out by 1245hrs. Coffees were excellent one of the better ones weve had.
Every time we get to Bowen we head to Jochheims for our coffee and hot chocolate fix, the best coffee in town, and grab a pie or two as they are always great. You will get the friendliest service.10 out 10
Wow, this place hums. Bowens gem.Staff were fast and flat out but took time for all the pleasantries.Food was devine
Very friendly and efficient staff up early with dine-in welcome. The fresh from the oven brekky pie was delicious. My favourite, though was the sweet caramel tart and Judys mild morning coffee.
Traveling on bicycle from Sydney to Cairns and back for one year( Covid ). Stopped in at Jochheims for coffee. I was treated like a long lost son. They sent me out with extra food and most importantly, cold water. What A great Cafe- l plan on stopping by on my way out of town to say thanks and goodbye. Love to all- Brent Bundy Ridegump
So this was a stop on our to Mackay (from Townsville). We decided on this joint since it got good basically 5* reviews. The vibes were nice like a well kept bakery cafe, they ladies out front despite being in their later years were preppy, it was quite busy when we turned up.FOOD:Lets start with the 2 MEAT PIES (one with potato and peas), 1 Sausage Roll. Prices were a bit dear for a single pie, my partners was $6.05 she hella remembers cause of that weird 5 cents hahaha. For the price I was expecting some high class stuff but they tasted like regular mince and gravy pies...Id probably be able to make the flavours if I bought some gravy from a fish and chip joint and mixed sauteed beef mince. Thats how disappointed I was in them. The potato and peas tasted like what they were supposed to taste like. The sausage roll was deceptively long in the warmer, I thought it was good value for money (I forget the price sorrybut when I got it, basically regular sized...probs shouldve asked, guess it was my bad. The flavour also meh, actually I can recall saying it does taste alot more like filler and less meat. So flavour is meh minus. Note: weve been to several pie joints, our current favourites are the local Townsville chunky pie and the cardwell pies, rich in flavour, tons of meat.Okay next, The SWEETS. 1 finger bun, 1 Custard almond bun.Sweet tooths rejoice, will definitely say you guys will enjoy this place. But...Urrrrgh okay so, My partner and I arent much sweet tooths anymore so we started to feel a bit gross at the half-way mark. For the Custard bun, it was alot decadent than I expected, the glaze mightve been a bit too over the top for me, the roasted almond were rich with flavour though. The custard was too sweet for my liking. The finger bun was in the same boat. The frosting seemed to be too sweet for us, also, imo coconut is better than sprinkles. They didnt have any of those available. The bread was light, so there was more emphasis on the fillings and toppings, the extra sugar was unnecessary.Id probably give this place a pass next time we drive down, probably just go to a Coles or IGA and buy a pack of finger buns or hot cross buns for the rest of the drive. For sweet tooths go for it. They had a wide range of other nice goodies.
reasonable price.kindly staff. They have a lot of kind of breads and pies.I have not eaten all the menus. But the coffee and food I ate had was amazing.
Curry pie was excellent, beef & chorizo was average too hot but good lunch snack!
Higher end price for pies , coffees nice , can be very busy but theyre quick . Pies are ok. Pies pastry was rock hard on one pie
Wow. You must try their pie! This cafe is awesome. They have a great variety of pies and sandwiches which are delicious. Apart from that you find various sweets and cake that not only look beautiful but taste great too. The coffee is really good.On top of all that you have staff that is so friendly and cares for their customers like you rarely find it anymore.
A place of respite in Bowen: outdoor seating, nice breeze to counter the heat, clean and fresh looking, lovely staff... and... nice coffee. Plus you get your cinnamon scroll with a hydrangea!
This place is amazing absolutely now a favourite of mine with outstanding customer service very clean and tidy and they have a wide variety of freshly made food which are delicious both to look at and to eat
