Jimão Tapas e Vinhos - Portuguese restaurant in Porto, Portugal
Incredible food and kind staff. We walked by earlier in the evening and made a reservation for about 2 hours later. When we arrived, they had set up a little table upstairs by the window. Service was outstanding and the food was even better. We ordered the soup, pork cheek with potatoes, octopus pasta, shrimp, and mushroom/asparagus dish. More than enough food for 2 and we left stuffed and happy. Probably the best meal we’ve had so far on our trip - would absolutely come back!
Extremely cosy place to hide from the rain and enjoy some local food. The shrimps were cooked in one of the best sauces I have eaten. The sparkling albarino is so fresh and goes really well with the ceviche. The service was very warm and attentive, topping up our glasses and asking regularly if we needed anything.
Exceptional local food, incredible quality, friendly service and cosy atmosphere. The best cuisine I had in Portugal, definitely recommend.
Incredible food! We ordered the octopus with pasta, prawns, and sausage. The octopus was cooked perfectly -- so tender. The prawns were probably the best we had during our two week Portugal adventure. The sausage was cooked with caramelized onions that were delicious. For the food, I give it five stars! Had to dock a star for service though. The speed at which the fold came out was pretty slow. Especially for the prawns, it felt like they forgot about it which I dont think they did but the wait was long enough for us to wonder if they forgot. From our observation, they cook the dishes fresh but in batches so sometimes it might take a while for a dish because they are waiting for a few other tables to order the same thing to cook them all at once. Even with the slower service, I would definitely go back for the quality food! Just be prepared for this to be a slightly longer meal even compared to others.
Squeezed us in last minute for a superb meal. Lovely atmosphere and great tapas. Ask for a balcony table upstairs!
Ordered a cabbage soup, sausages, fried mushrooms, mushroom risotto, octopus and black pasta, and stewed pork cheek. The soup was savoury and fresh. The sausage tapas was well balanced, not too salty / sweet with caramelised onions. Fried mushrooms were similarly amazing and savoury.Mushroom risotto was well cooked. The octopus pasta was fresh. The pork cheeks were really tender.Service was first class and overall experience was great. I would definitely come again if given the chance.
Did not have any reservations but the owner was very accommodating and arranged a table for four. This tapas and wine restaurant offers exceptional food coupled with a very knowledgeable owner. Put this place on your bucket list if you want a great meal without the noise and chaos of the riverfront restaurants.
Amazing food in a cute and romantic atmosphere. The owner is really kind and sweet. Definitely the highlight and the nice ending of our trip. Thanks!
One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Europe. Wonderfully friendly service, delicious wine, and outstanding tapas that includes a variety of meat, seafood, and vegetable options. Exquisite dining experience all around. A Porto must!
Pricey but you get excellent food in return for that hard-earned cash! Good thoughtful service. Stunning food. Wish I had been hungrier and had more money at the time!
A lovely restaurant for a romantic dinner. The atmosphere was calm and homie. We came for dinner after heavy lunch so not super hungry but we enjoyed every bit of dish we ordered. Flavours were well balanced and beautifully presented on a plate. Small bites felt like heaven! Highly recommend but make sure you book way in advance!
The best food in Porto! We ordered the steak, the garden, pork cheeks, black pasta with octopus, the cod, and the creme brulee.Carmen is incredible, we will be back whenever we’re in Porto. What an incredible evening!
Service is the worst part of all: we waited one hour to get our order.Food is fresh and yummy but overpriced compared to places of similar quality in Porto. We paid 50€ for two people and left still hungry.Overall, wouldn’t recommend it. There are much better places in the city.
The person that owns this restaurant went out of her way to show us the very best of what this restaurant had to offer. We left our order up to her, resulting in the most incredible food being delivered to our table. The prawns in beer and butter sauce, the slow cooked beef cheek, the octopus with black pasta, everything was amazing. Her choice of wine, stunning. We were so full we couldn’t fit in dessert but ended up ordering two, just to try them. If you’re visiting Porto. Go.
We had a nice evening with nice varations of Tapas and an exelent Service. Important is that you have to reserve a table! The Gambas Pulpo and the Mushrooms where our favorite. The chees as starter is delicious. At all a nice reminder of Porto !!!
It’s very easy to impress me with seafood and steaks. Rarely I try some dishes I know little about. Jimao did a good job by presenting all dishes.
A small gem in a pictoresque corner of Porto. Very romantic atmosphere, friendly owners and great selection of wines and tapas... The slow-cooked pork cheek was absolutely perfect! Highly recommended!
Great ambiance and delicious food! Quite a quirky place (look for the bookswhere food is king. We mainly ordered from the hot tapas (meatwith our favourite being the pork stew. All the food was excellent, though looking around the other tables I believe they specialise in sea food so we might have missed something!
We were expecting to be able to get a meal at 10 PM in Porto on our first night here. Unfortunately most of the restaurants close at that time but this restaurant took us in at 10:10 PM even though they closed at 10 and served us as if it was 6 PM… They did not rush the order or the service and treated us impeccably! The food was outstanding! Probably the best we’ve had in the week that we’ve been in Portugal! It was a very nice surprise as we did not even know what they served lol everything we ordered was incredible! Our server, Nuno(sp?was very accommodating, patient and so sweet! We were the last ones to leave the restaurant and felt like we were family! If we had more time here we would go back again!
A gem in Porto. Here you will feast on delicious dishes, accompanied by a great host, Carmen. With great wines and even better desserts (the panna cotta is a lovely surprise). The octopus and black pasta was a star for us, you cannot miss this place when visiting this wonderful city, book early!
A highlight of our honeymoon! Incredible food, a lot locally sourced. Probably the best meal we had in a week and a half in Portugal, and the prices are a steal for the quality. Plus its a gorgeous little place in a scenic location!Small plates (tapas/petiscos style), 3-4 is enough for two people. They were able to find us a table for dinner as walk-ins, but reservations are a good idea in general; we just happened to get lucky.
Fantastic experience. Service is excellent. Food is really good. Recommend the octopus pasta and the shrimp. Probably our best dining experience of our trip to Portugal.
Fantastic !!!!! Highly recommend !!!!You will regret if you don’t come !!!The service is amazing. The food ,, wowwww!!You have to reserve way in advance to make sure you have a table. I give it 10 starts!
The most sublime Portuguese traditional food! A Master Chef experience. We had the Braised Pork Cheeks and the Mushroom with Asparagus, for tapas starter, followed by octopus alto Douro and Cod Jimao style washed down with a bottle of white recommended by our fabulous waiter, Nuno! 10 out of 5 for us, a must for all visitors to this fabulous city.
Googled sardines and Jimão showed up. In the end we didnt get sardines, but the rest of the order was great. So delicious! Will recommend family and friends to visit jimão, and certainly will come back a second time.
Reservation is a must for this restaurant for maximum experience.Everything is just perfect. I only seen service just like this in five star hotels restaurants. Owner ladies she does value the reservation guests and she the only one who is taking care of her guests on first floor by herself. She love and respected everything she did and were appreciated. No rush service here, She really polite cheerful and intuitive. This is best in industry. NO doubt about food and wine in this restaurant. I wish I could go back again.
Fantastic food. Very popular, need to book a table or try after 9:00pm.
It’s recommended by friend who came few years ago, it’s a little bit expensive restaurant. :)In general, we give 2 stars for the “so-so” customer service as we are PUSHED by the waitress/owner for ordering. And only Portuguese menu, and only scan QR code to have the menu. And when we asked the recommendations, the waitress/owner recommended the cod fish which is the most expensive dish on the menu, but it’s too salty and too much (quantity point of view, when we asked the recommendations, we already ordered salad, tapas and octopus spaghetti)…we could expect they pay more attention to customer needs, like tell us the quantity of their food, double check how hungry we are, etc.So, if you want to go, we recommend you to make study in advance instead of being pushed.
The food here is phenomenal. The fish especially 👌 and Carmen made me feel so extremely welcome. What a delightful meal and experience. Go if you get a chance.
The food was *chefs kiss*!!The sea food was super fresh. The restaurant has authentic recipes. The service was Fantastic and extremely attentive. Please reserve your tables though. Its small restaurant and the demand is huge! We witness lot of being denied tables because of the reservation. We were luckily walked in early and was offered a table.Simply a unique taste journey.
We were recommended to go to Jimão by family and locals. This restaurant serves original, well crafted, and DELICIOUS plates. You can sense the intention in every tapa - from sight to taste. Very very nice overall experience.Muito obrigado, Carmen We will share our great experience with friends and family in the future!
Fantastic little spot for mouth watering tapas dishes with a twist, cant recommend eating here more highly. The potatoes with gorgonzola were delicious, the jimão sausage and octopus with rice well, 👌 wow
Our favourite restaurant in Porto by far, delicious food, amazing friendly service, beautiful intimate surroundings and very reasonably priced! Topped off our last night in Porto perfectly.
We had a lovely evening at Jimaos. Our waiter was very nice and friendly. The food came relatively fast and tasted good.
By chance we were able to catch a table quite spontaneously thanks to the friendly service. The food was very tasty and the wine was also very good. You sit very nicely at the beginning of a narrow alley. We had a really great evening.
The food was good. Plated beautifully (as picturedand flavourful. BUT, the service was terrible on multiple levels:* We were ignored and waited nearly half an hour to be served,* the ordering system didnt work so we had to redo orders,* we did not get our food until over an hour and fifteen mins have passed,* was presented with various dishes that wasnt ours multiple times, and to top it all off,* the waitress accidentally spilled scalding hot pork cheeks on my shoulder (as picturedand ruined my shirt 🤦🏾♂️Through out the night it was as if this woman was zoned out and not totally there. She should not have been working.Profuse apologies aside, it was disappointing to have such incredible food marred by what seems to be a shameful, almost sadly comedic, front-of-house service. No offer of discount was given. You will be better served and appreciated elsewhere in nearby restaurants.
Wonderful place! Thank you Carmen. Food is outstanding. Location is great. Freshly cooked bread rolls hot from the oven. In Porto? Find this place. Gosh. So so so good!
Very good tapas with good balanced flavours. You have to try the stuffed potato. For someone who grew up with potatoes as a must with every dinner, this was an outstanding experience. Another must try is the Sangria..... We had a table on the 2nd floor looking out at Ribeira square. Excellent service from our waiter.
Great little place in one of the small streets of Ribeira. Cozy atmosphere, delicious food, lovely service, and generous portions. We loved it! One of the best dinners we had in Porto.
We absolutely loved this place. Went for dinner on a cold night and the warm, cozy atmosphere was welcoming. We had a handful of the warm tapas and each one was perfect - beef cheeks in truffle potato stew, Iberian ham/Brie/tomato jam toast, and the sausage. Unfortunately that was the only pic I took. The bread isn’t just normal table bread either...it’s warm and you get a mix of a few different kinds of bread, all delicious. You can make a reservation online and I suggest you do as its very small with only a few tables inside and outside. Would definitely go back! Friendly service as well.
Exquisite!Felt very comfortable here. The host (I believe from the other reviewsis the owner. The little sign made me feel very welcome - very much appreciated as a solo traveller. The white port and ‘house’ red wine were lovely.Food was even better, I over did it a bit! The mushrooms, sausage and cod were all delicious. Can’t recommend enough.
Stumbled upon this restaurant by chance. We didn’t want to eat at any of the super touristy restaurants by the water. This is a great tapas place with great ambiance. The food was tasty but wasn’t mind blowing. I had hoped the octopus rice had a little more flavor to the broth. That said, the owner (who was our serverwas so lovely and sweet with trademark Portuguese hospitality. She really made our experience so for that, I gave this place a 5. English speaking. The bread at this place is amazing. It’s warm and delicious. Plus, they don’t pressure you to buy it or surreptitiously place it on your table, charging you for it later. Please visit!
Beautiful little restaurant independently run by Husband & Wife. Delicious and fresh locally sourced dishes that are affordably priced. Great local wine selection which the friendly owner will happily talk you through. A refreshingly relaxing escape from tourist traps along the Douro River.
A small tapas bar just off the main tourist front seating around 20. We ordered around 13 dishes plus bread for 4 of us and it was more than enough, all the food comes once ready, we did not feel rushed or over overwhelmed at any point. The bread is made fresh to order, still oven warm when placed in front of you with also the mussels, octopus rice and local speciality sausage in honey recommendations to try alongside rose either of the house wines. Attentive service with great explanations and things to try if you want to experiment. If you can convince yourself to walk a couple of minutes from the front you wont be disappointed.
Cosy little place I came across, great location but surprisingly not touristy. Staff were really nice and friendly. The owner is amazing and attentive, always there to answer your questions, describes everything you’d like to know from wines to desserts. We really enjoyed the dining experience. Would definitely go back again someday!
I love the food here, especially the shrimps. They were awesome! The server was perfect! Since we’ve ordered only one main dish for sharing, they separated the dish into two plates. It really was a sweet service for us.Don’t forget to make reservation ahead. They’re easily full reserved!
A small, cozy tapas restaurant near the river bank. Excellent food and nice wine selection. You should be confident to order anything on the menu because all of our orders are delicious, local flavours.
Lovely little restaurant by the river, love the vibe. Food is amazing though the rice is a little salty for my own preference, Porto wine is a must try. Pumpkin cake is lovely too. Definitely a treat for yourself or your love❤❤
Small gem near the river. Nice background music, excellent service and food. Reservations recommended. Our group of 6 ordered a variety of small dishes, mains, drinks and 2 deserts (pictures attached). The hit of the night was the Caramel fondue--dont expect a heated pot of caramel. The desert resembled a chocolate lava cake, but with Carmel flavors and included ice cream. The trio of Portuguese deserts was okay, but a bit of a miss for the pallets of our group; however, most enjoyed the Port wine poached pear.
Very well and centrally located. Dishes and small and definitely worth sharing. We got 4 between two of us + bottle of wine + dessert. Came out to 52€ with Couvert / bread. Worth a visit, but definitely be prepared for Porto prices!
