Jewish life in Florida & Latin America recorded in photos & artifacts, housed in a former synagogue.
Great Museum! Amazing stuff! So much history!!! Highly recommend!!
Was a great educational and historical exsperience.
Small but nice and there are people to give u a tour. Parking is a challenge but when I asked the security guard he kindly let me park in a small employee lot. Most interesting was the revelation that Jews were restricted on Miami Beach.
Wonderful tour by museum educator Luna, at this beautiful, historic site.
Small but informative.
Really fun Barbra Streisand exhibit. Lovely museum. Worth the trip!!
Beautiful museum although I expected there to be more Jewish things in there. It’s more of an art museum and a place to commemorate talented Jewish people. The tour guide was friendly and helpful and all and all it was a great experience.
A brilliant bit of SOBE history, and very interesting place to visit (I am not even Jewish). Friendly volunteers who work there. Strict security before you enter - for obvious reasons. Do yourself a favor and visit this place!
Fascinating history. We talked to a guide named Harry and he was extremely insightful and had a wealth of knowledge!
I visited the JMF recently while on vacation in Florida. I live in Wisconsin but I emigrated to the US from Baghdad, Iraq in 2016. I was raised Muslim, but recently discovered my father’s family was Jewish. I am very interested in learning more about that part of my heritage. This museum is so beautiful and very informative. It really had an impact on me. Learning the history of the Jews in Miami was so moving and haunting. I highly recommend visiting this wonderful place. ❤️✡️
My most recent trip to Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU was my third time visiting this museum. Although the collection is small, the artwork is unique and fun to take pictures with or of. The minimalist structure of Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU I find to be very relaxing, and I always have a lovely time here.P.S., if coming with kids, staff were handing out goodie bags with art when we visited. Additionally, staff was strongly encouraging families to participate in their scavenger hunt, which visitors could access through a QR code. We opted out of the scavenger hunt, but it was nice that it was an option.
Lots of history at this well curated, beautiful, restored synagogue. Must see when visiting.
Closed half an hour before it’s supposed to with no notice. It’s not that hard to update the Google maps & many other people had the same issue. It probably takes like 5 minutes to walk through the entire building anyways.
Beautifully restored synagogue with lots of history. The Barbra Streisand Hello Gorgeous exhibit was good.
Small but very well laid out museum. You must take the tour with the docent. The museum is a former synagogue so one can admire the architecture and details as part of the history. The entire neighborhood, south of fifth street, called SoFi by locals has rich Jewish history. Very interesting. But come on a weekday early as parking is very difficult to find in the area after 12pm and worse on weekends. But highly recommend.
A tribute to resilience and hard work. The bigotry and antisemitism was also documented yet they prevailed. An inspiring place.
Beautiful well curated museum. Easy parking. Kind people.
The docent that guided us through the museum was amazing, I believe her name was Melissa. Its definitely something to visit, and takes some time to walk through.
Thoroughly enjoyed our tour. Its a shame that since the surrounding area is so depressed they probably dont get many visitors.
I had such a fabulous experience here yesterday. The docent (who I cant remember her namewas informative and excited to share all the information she had. It was interesting to learn about the history of the Jews in Florida and particularly southern Florida. I had a great talk with her and the gentleman manning the front about our Jewish heritage. I highly recommend visiting this museum while youre in Miami Beach. Its such a treasure.
Thank you for keeping this history alive! Really meaningful and exciting experience for my family to see where my grandparents were married!
I went a few years ago. Interesting place. They explained the story about Miami Beach saying "Manana" about letting Jews in.
The space is small but the staff is nice and the artifacts are amazing!
This museum I have to say it most interesting and enlightening. Took a quick walk through to look at the well laid out exhibits. Jewish life. The building is an ex-synogague but very beautifully built with care and love. You can feel the spirituality of the place even after careful conversion to a museum.
Lovely Lieber exhibits. Saw interesting movie and an artist talk. Worth the visit. No longer an active synagogue.
A beautiful interior of an old synagogue perfectly preserved (or should I say restored;-In addition to a very interesting historical exhibition, the museum offers a refreshing experience of artwork by Mira Lehr (A Walk in the Gardenher works -almost like dream catchers- hang around the main part of the synagogue creating almost a magical ambiance... when you enter the space on the left hand side you may experience a bit of a shock;-It’s an interesting presentation of photography by Zachary Balber: TAMIM... The staff of this place is very friendly and knowledgeable and if you ask, I am sure you will learn a lot about the history of the Jewish community in Florida...
Had a nice, intimate free tour with one of the docents.Very cool impermanent exhibits. The space is well preserved and taken care of.Thought the gift shop could have more art pertaining to the exhibits.$8 student entrance fee, $12 regular fee.
Its small but it packs a punch! Looks are so deceiving because I thought this would be a quick tour. We went to the Holocaust memorial right around here, and the Jewish Museum went with the information hand in hand. It was so touching to see all the artifacts and panels inside the museum. FIU students get in free by the way.
The Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU at Miami South Beach presents a cultural intersectionality between 17th century South Florida and Latin-American Jewish photographed historiography and contemporary artistry. The museum, although not a formal holocaust museum, its modernity was bequeathed from an Orthodox Jewish Synagogue of old. Adorned by hindsight cultural ambiance and past socio-religious philosophical thought, the museum is a synthesized exhibition of curated chronological excellence. The narrated tour guide highlighted unknown and subtle details which brought greater attraction to the mounted photographs and artifacts. Though, for me, the most beautiful piece of artwork was the hand crafted The Tish of The Lamed Vavniks by Steve Marcus, 2017. The miniature Rabbī were carved from Bass wood, colored by Milk paint, Tung oil and Torāh ink. Exquisite!Other artifacts of beauty was a Sefer Torāh (The Pentateuch), a dress and hand gloves decorated with seashells, an illustrious 944-page Rothchild Miscellany Hebrew illuminated manuscript, and two 14th century German-Jewish wedding rings with internally placed prayers. So much more aesthetics to see, therefore, upon your visit, allow your eyes to witness the plethora of beauteousness.I believe the overall narrative of the history exhibited throughout the museum is a message of cohesive culture unified with progressive religious thought possesses the potentiality to produce fortified communities, foreign and domestic. I think the museum is a perfect representation of what a people can be should they choose to be. Theres much to be seen and gleaned from the museum. Im sure anyone visiting the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU will experience a cultural immersion into a local people who preserved their history for present-day study and life-long learning.מי ייתן ושלום ושגשוג יהיו בשפע בחייו של הנלמד היטב והמודע ביותר מבחינה רוחנית. אלוהים גדול!Enjoy the museum and the atmophere of sunny South Beach Miami, Florida.
This place is inspiring and lovingly maintained. The sweet older lady that helped me was so kind. I cant wait to go back with my friends to learn more about Miami.
Awesome museum, you really need to visit it to comprehend how awesome is, the hosts are truly friendly
I really loved touring this museum! My tour guide Janet was so knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend.
Pleasant small but well organized museum. Terrific docent staff. An interesting hour.
Beautiful museum. I learned a lot about history and art of the Jewish people. I loved their documentaries running on a loop. Very educational. I wish they had a parking lot but its South Beach, it will never happen.
Came here about 2 years ago for an event to celebrate the legacy of the schmatta trade in Miami. Very interesting and enlightening. Took a quick walk through to look at the exhibits. Jewish life in the 305. The building is an ex-synogague very beautiful built with care and love. You can feel the spirituality of the place even after conversion to a museum.
Very small space compared to other museums, but if you have a serious interest in Judiasm or other religions... The Jewish Museum is definitely worth the trip. Very friendly staff & funny security guard today... overall great experience. They do offer tours too! (But I didn’t go on one since I like to explore at my own pace).
Great exhibits that were very informative and super friendly staff. Linda, one of the volunteers at the museum offered to give us a tour and she was very knowledgeable and welcoming.
Fascinating little museum, a friend and I (neither of us Jewishwent whilst in Miami and it was a lovely way of hearing about the history of Florida through the eyes of the Jewish community. The building is beautiful too.
Definitely a nice place to visit if your looking for some cultural and history. Its a very beautiful and informative place.
Very inviting, well-curated, informative museum with insightful and friendly docents. Dives deep into the crucial role of Miamis Jewish community in the citys history, and the impact of Miami on the community (its an art deco synagogue!). Contemporary and historical art from around the world is also featured. If youre in Miami looking for museums, this is essential.
Excellent art exhibition when I visited (December 2018)
I loved this museum so much that I trained to be a docent here. +Very interesting "Mosaic" perm exhibit, plus 2-3 special exhibits. +Museum housed in important art-deco former synagogue in South-beach area. +Beautiful Judaica very reasonably priced in gift shop. (- cafe closed and no kosher eatery nearby ;(
Good for short visit. 30min to 45min. Special exhibitions are happening regularly. $12 for adults. 20% to 30% over priced (in My openion).
Am not Jewish but outstanding museum and guides. It is more than you you would expect. Specializes on the history of Jewish Community in Florida, especially contributions and their historical milestones in assisting in the governmental field.
Some interesting artifacts, but I did wonder what is the point?
It’s a great place with a lot of history on it. Leaned a lot about jewish history in Florida. You can also get souvenirs at the entrance. It you are in Miami you have to go and visit this please you will not regret it.
Participated in the Jewish food Walking tour lead by Howard and if was a fantastic way to spend my first day in Miami! The food was fantastic and I felt like i learned so much from Howard. Met some great people and enjoyed the exhibits in the museum.
Fantastic, interesting, solemn! Wonderful place to learn about Florida Jewish history and promote education! Thank you Chaim Lieberperson for the wonderful tour and thought provoking conversation! The best Museum Educator ever!
Amazing place, very well organized and explains the essence of the Jewish culture and the presence of the community in Miami. At the begging of the visit, a volunteer guide (Howardgave us a very nice explanation about the roots of the Jewish community in Miami.
Worth a visit if you have an interest in Jewish history and have some extra time in Miami Beach. The museum is housed in a former synagogue, and while the exhibit is somewhat confusing to follow (there is a lot of information squeezed into not a lot of room), there are very interesting bits of information and photos to be found throughout.
