1 Central Park West, New York, NY 10023, United States, New York
Sophisticated New French eatery boasting floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Central Park.
The seating hostess was dishonest and tricky. I reserved a table for five persons in the formal dining room, yet she assigned an outdoor, temporary dining table to us. I will boycott this restaurant forever.
With the exception of a pretty dry beef main course, Jean Georges seems to marry top grade, fresh seafood and meat ingredients with dissonant, oftentimes very sour sauces. Couple that with uncomfortable sofa seating with strangers (where youll feel everyone shifting in their seats and hear many conversations). Great service and location helps.
Bottom line up front: not worth your visit.I dont treat myself dinning in a two Michelin star restaurant often. When I do, I expect a little wow factor. Im looking for strong/delicate/unique flavor, new ingredients or textures. Thats why these places come with a premium.Unfortunately this visit to Jean gorge was just ok. While the service was great, the food lacked oompf. Most of all the wagyu steak found itself in a sauce not complementary to its flavors. Highlight was dessert, the apple ensemble was delicious and fun but it didnt make up for the "high end" yet meh food. For your once a year special occasion you deserve to be wowed.
Fantastic. Worth every penny. If anything I would eat a little less of early courses to leave plenty of room towards the end. Wines and service top notch.
I had the privilege of coming to JG for my birthday with my siblings so we got the 10 course tasting menu. The ingredients were fresh and I was glad that I got to try the famous egg toast and tuna noodles which were delicious. The rest of the Asian fusion tasting dishes were not great. I love strong flavors like Laksa but I found that some dishes were overly salty. Particularly, the lobster dish tasted like sea water...( I think they forgot coconut milk or something?)The staff however were very understanding and gave us extra dessert because of the lobster dish. People were friendly and I felt very special that I got a really delicious chocolate cake for my birthday.
So this was my first time trying a restaurant of this nature. A fixed 10 course menu where there was barely any food on the plate. Lol. I was hopeful going into this reservation because the menu sounded pretty good and its a three Michelin star restaurant. Has to be good right? Nah not at all. I was literally ranking each dish I received out of ten and the best dish was the first. It was like a crispy rice sashimi and a sip of soup. Similar to what another reviewer said about his experience, its been 3 days since Ive dined there and i can hardly remember anything else. I hated my cocktail, some raspberry thing. Also they were very slow to bring out the next course each time. We were there for about 3 and a half hours and I was literally done and ready to leave an hour in. Just not an experience that I enjoyed. Below are my scores for each course.1. 8/10 sushi with crispy rice and soup2. 6/10 bread and caviar3. 4/10 white fish and peas4. 4.5/10 tuna ribbons and avacado5. 4/10 tomato and berry salad6. 5.5/10 king crab dumpling7. 7/10 sea bass8. 5/10 Thai lobster and corn9. 4/10 foie gra10. 4.5/10 duck11. 3/10 dessertI will say that they did notice that my friend did not like his foie gra and offered to make something else in return. We declined but they did give us a second dessert to make up for it. Which was probably one of the better things I had and it wasnt even apart of the tasting menu. It was a lava cake. Overall I cant say Id return. Just wasnt my thing. Super expensive for mid food. I went in hopeful and came out disappointed.
Fantastic food, beautiful dining area. The staff were incredibly courteous and accommodating. I came with a party but had to leave early to catch a flight, the staff was able to get me my entire meal, and gave me a cake for the plane in under an hour. An incredible experience and will surely be back.
I celebrated my birthday here and everything was divine!! Every plate and drink was better than the one before! Service was impeccable!
One of the best meals of my life! We came here to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary and the whole experience from each curated course to the sommelier recommending wines to us was perfection.I also loved the touch where my wife left one of her courses untouched coz she didn’t like it and they whipped us a special meal and showered us with dessert to compensate. Deserving of the 2 Michelin stars!
An absolutely amazing dinner experience! Each dish was beautifully presented with a wonderful story. Food was definitely worth the price, and the service is exceptional. Although the entire dining room was filled, I felt that the tables were spaced out well to enjoy some privacy. I have never had a more relaxed and enjoyable dinner. Not sure why JG lost a Michelin star as it is much more deserving of 3 stars than Per Se down the street.Brunch at Nougatine also offers a small tasting menu featuring some of JGs famous dishes such as the Egg Toast. However, there is a drastic difference in service during the daytime.
What an incredible meal. Every course was surprising and different. Our server (mike?was incredible, accommodating, and really made us feel like he was taking us on a journey with the feel. I had the vegan tasting and it was great but I want to point out especially that the vegan desert was NOT sorbet! I was so impressed at that! We will definitely be back
Came here on my bday. They offer 3 tasting menus; 6 or 10 course and a vegetarian option. Great food, well balanced on taste and texture. All cocktails were well made. Ed was our server, service was attentive and fun yet professional. One of the Michelin starred restaurants we would visit again.
Came here in March 2022 when they got rid of lunch service and only focused on the diner service. This was to celebrate my buddys entrance into fatherhood and a night out. I got the 10 course omnivore prix fixe menu. The service was great! The waitress serving us knew the menu very well and was knowledgeable in wine selection and pairing. We did not need to request the sommelier because the wine pairing recommendations were well received. The wine pairing that stood out was the king crab risotto and a chardonnay that had notes of oats. The servers were also very attentive, but not intrusive. With regards to the menu and the food quality, if I had to describe a theme, it would be different textures, temperature and intense flavors clashing together within the mouth, melding into a melodic harmony to accentuate each ingredient. This delicate combination is really easy to mess up, but Jean-Georges pulled it off perfectly. The quality of the food is definitely one of the best there is.
Visited with my bf and our experience was exceptional for both food and service. Worth a visit or two.
The food was great and service was amazing but there was an individual coughing on the table next to ours the whole time. They also state there is a dress code but it is not really enforced as I saw a few individual who were dressed down with sneakers and black jeans and no jacket. I would bring a change of clothes just to be safe.
Had tasting menu during Xmas Day lunch. Simply amazing… Egg Toast is must-have! All dishes are tasty and well presented. Great attentive service. It was wonderful seated at the outdoor cabin
Caviar Milk Tea should be renamed to include "savory" or an indication it is not sweet.Wine pairing would be preferred.Japanese Ceviche was phenomenal.Benjamin the Sommelier was exceptional beyond his requirements.
The food was inventive and absolutely incredible. We did the 10-course omnivore tasting and 6-course vegetarian tasting. Wish the bread was warm, but loved the little treats and the take-home almond cake at the end. Dinner was a very long and leisurely experience. Great for an anniversary, birthday or special occasion!
Great food! Simple flavors, and you can taste each flavor individually while also tasting a new flavor that is the combination of the individual flavors. Classic french.Overall great experience and solidly two Michelin stars all around. The food is at three Michelin stars, but the service had hiccups. For example, we arrived 25 minutes early and were told to stand out in the cold until 4:45pm came (covid means no waiting area, maybe). But no apology. They did, however, come outside as soon as the time came and brought us in. Second, they never brought the check to the table, so after 15 min, we got up to leave (thought they just charge the card on file, service included). Then as I was walking out, they gave me the check (ran it over to me), so I had to awkwardly come back to table and sign it. Just mentioning these because it is room for improvement.
Excellent as always. The 10 course menu was fantastic all the way through.
Still amazed this restaurant was once worthy of three Michelin Stars when we previously visited in 2016. On our last visit my wife agreed her tasting menu was worth no more than two stars. My choice of the alternative ten course was certainly barely a one star.Very disappointed of the fall from grace which most certainly began when they felt that making an effort was no longer required.Won’t be visiting again unless we hear positive reviews. The difference of opinion of the people providing ratings between countries clearly needs review.
Had the tasting menu a few years ago, sat outside and was bitten by a lot of mosquitoes. Food is ok, sophisticated but nothing that makes you come back. Super pricey $250 for couple.
Absolutely marvelous meals here, twice. One of the six best restaurants in the United States. Fortunately, weve never seen hide nor hair of donald trump here, which wouldve taken away from the quality of our dining experience. Staff are just plain incredible, coming as close as any reasonable person would expect, to perfection. Meals with truffles have been especially impressive. Spectacular.
lovely food, really recommend chicken soup. But the dishes was to simple, like the avocado toast and the artichoke was to simple for this kind of restaurant...
This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Excellence of food, vibes, and service. Of course it’s a michelin star restaurant so it must be good but I guarantee it’s be beyond what you can expect! I highly recommend the desserts- they are really on point! One thing is the dishes are very savory so if you prefer more natural and unseasoned food, maybe you might not really like it. However, overall great place for special occasions, like birthdays, Christmas, etc! Diverse selection of food so go for it!
Overall great experience! Too much food for me, we did the 6 and 10 course respectively. The appetizers were better in the 6 but the mains and dessert were better in the 10. Wish we had choices on menu items because you were stuck with whatever they wanted to serve.
The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the experience for our lunch meal was just perfect. I wouldnt want to go through a 12+ course meal during lunch, so they have a smaller prix fixe menu that is perfect for the mid day meal. The service itself was spectacular, attentive without being intrusive, and genuinely nice. The dress code is less strict for lunch reservations, so gentlemen can feel comfortable coming in with a nice dress shirt and not feel underdressed. The big perk here is that you dont want to be wearing a suit after your lunch meal, so it works out perfectly.Despite that, JG still requires jackets for their dinner reservations, which in my opinion is unnecessary. Ive been to over 100 michelin restaurants worldwide, and this was a first. The food was also spectacular, every dish was perfect, and the final dessert was out of this world. Out of all of the restaurants we visited during our trip to NYC, JG will stand tall as one of the best. Looking forward to our next visit in the future :)
Worth the visit. It is expensive but good. Staffs are very knowledgeable and helpful. Good half bottle selection of wines. Try egg toast with caviar.
The experience is great. We had lunch. The food was exelent and beautiful balance. It was great.
Sorry Sorry Sorry, the experience is way below what we were charged.Have a season tasting menu which is $248ppl, but everything is really just so so, normal ingredients cooked in a old school way, overall sour and tangy flavor. Nothing really memorable. And service is so bad!!1. no one clean the table between each course2. Was asked how was the food, I said as a Michelin 2 star restaurant, I expected more, and someone should clean the table ASAP, and the servant immediately refuted "I ask you about food" ok I really dont care your customers opinion.3. Without asking I am done with the food or not, just clean the plate for me till I said "wait, I havent finished"Will never go back !! Never!!!
Let’s be honest . There are a handful of chefs / Restaurants you have to hit and this is one !! Food , drinks and service are impeccable and in a beautiful space !
This is one of my fav restaurants! The desserts are the best! I have been twice, and never disappoints. The service is absolutely excellent. The first time I had a lunch course and the meat was so delicious! The beet a little spicy so when the waitress asked if everything was alright I told her yes, maybe a little less spicy (but I was happy with my dish!but she insisted on changing it for another one so she brought me the pork which was also really good (although I preferred the meat, but she was just trying to be super nice). The chocolate and tangerine dessert course was exceptional! (First photos). The next time I went with a friend and it was also really good.
Had an amazing experience here. You have to rate this on the experience and not value. Yes it’s insanely expensive, no you’re not going to recoup that cost in flavor alone. But put that aside and soak in the refinement of the space. The luxury in the attention to your every need from the staff. Our server helped us explore the wine menu with perfect recommendations for our courses. Watched a vegan patron next to us be accommodated which was impressive given the menu. Only complaint is that we didn’t get to enjoy dessert fully because we were already stuffed!
Perfect restaurant for a Date, however I was a little disappointed with the host! I had a reservation a 8;30 pm and we ended Up getting our table at 9:10. It took another 30 minutos for them to bring us some bred and offer us drinks.... Food is definitely delicious!!
Service was amazing. Food was absolutely delicious, especially the broccoli soup in the first introductory course. Sadly the dessert wasnt my favorite (I go the chocolate and passion fruit onebut still decent.
My friend and I visited on Saturday for brunch. We were more than 20 minutes late but they still had the table for us. It was quiet most of the time and I was able to have a good conversation with my friend.
Had a really lovely time at @jean_georgesnyc which was the epitome of #finedining, albeit without having to sell a kidney thanks to the prixfixe lunch special 🤗Each dish was an 11/10 - all had their own unique flavour personality like characters in a play. 🤹🏼♀️🤺🧗♀️🤽♀️Service was warm and genuine, with just the right amount of attentive - really one of the most flawless fine dining experiences to date. 🍾Follow @thismodeleatsalot on FB/Insta/YouTube!
First time we went, it was amazing. Each following time, something seemed to be missing. Its amazing, but given the reputation and price point, I can only give it 4 stars. It really all depends on your server.Cant go wrong with the black sea bass and tuna ribbons! The cornish hen was great, too. They have great breads, but dont fill up on that. Dessert is hit or miss.
It was my first time at a three Michelin star restaurant. It was a good experience but I had very high expectations. The dessert was out of this world but besides that Ive had better gastronomic experiences for a lower price.
This 2 Michelin star restaurant is a nice treat!Go for a lunch or brunch and enjoy the atmosphere, sufisticated dishes and relatively reasonably priced menu, for the location.Service is sharp, as expected from restaurant in this scale.I have to admit that none of the dishes really made my day and swept me of my feet, but overall very tasty and nice on the eye.I would come back, but paying for price evening menu ia a bit harsh.
A tried and true NYC favorite of mine. The sweet spot is coming for lunch. Its beautiful inside the dining room, especially on a clear day. The natural light that filters through is unbeatable. I am not a foodie so I wont comment on the supposed deterioration in quality. All I know is that Im never in a bad mood after lunch at JG.
Now that’s an experience! For someone who dislikes posh and overly fancy places, I felt rather comfortable there, impeccable service, delicious food, very light spacious and fresh dining room.Loved everything about it.Tasted everything from the NYC Restaurant Week menu and would suggest prawns for starter, chicken for the main and their special salted caramel ice cream with chocolate cake.
One of our absolute highlights of our trip to NY. Service was beyond excellent and food exquisite! If you have he opportunity I really recommend this place!
First time in a Michellin star restaurant and couldnt have been more impressed. Service is really what sold me, when asked why we were there I mentioned we were enjoying my birthday lunch here, and at the end our waitress remembered and gave us a wonderful birthday cake free of charge. The food was divine, everything was paired well and the ambiance is very comfortable. Wonderful autumn tasting menu overall and again, service was over the top. Cant wait to try again with a different seasonal menu. We were also pleased with all the offerings, as the tasting menu included mini courses in between automatically, like dessert and an appetizer, we kept thinking we were being given wrong orders but it was indeed all inclusive. Great first experience being fancy :)
If youre considering dining at JG you know the bill is going to be pretty hefty, so you already know what youre getting into in terms of price. The food however was fantastic and elegantly plated with a myriad of different flavors and textures. The service and staff were very accommodating and the restaurant ambiance overall was clean, dim and inviting. Im not sure Ive had a better dining experience in NYC.
Much below expectations. I wouldve given it three stars if my expectations were not high eating at a three Michelin star restaurant that is so highly rated. Out of the eight courses meal Id say only one of them was memorable - the caviar served with the egg in its shell. Otherwise - was ok. Its been 3 days since Ive dined there and i can hardly remember anything else. The wine pairing was also disappointing - most of them were very dull and one of them, to our pallet was not much drink-able.Another disappointment was that they did not accommodate food allergies reported to them when the reservation was made. Im lactose intolerant, and what they offered on the spot was to serve some of the courses without the dressing. For me this is outrageous - Who likes to eat dry food..? Without any other reasonable choice I rushed into a CVS to get Lactaid, and had decided to go with the regular menu to enjoy the food. Unfortunately as mentioned it wasnt that enjoyable, really not worth it.I dont think any of us will want to return to that restaurant, though we both tried to really enjoy and appreciate it while we were dining there. Its just that there are soooooooo much better than that! And three Michelin stars? REALLY..? For what exactly..? Compared to others - nah.
I came here this Monday for Restaurant Week lunch. The food was great and the lady at the reception desk was nice. My waiter was OK and was really in a rush ( maybe it was restaurant week). I finished my three course finished with 40 minutes.... But I will definitely come back again and enjoy the food next time!
Lovely meal at Jean Georges. It is an experience in dining. The staff was attentive and our server Leigh was superb. The food was beautiful and delicious, all the courses. A must visit when in Manhattan!
Best lunch deal in town. If you like fancy restaurants and Michelin star style food, come here at noon. You must order weeks in advance!
Convenient location by subway. Very friendly service. Nice atmosphere and setting. The sea trout app was amazing. Cheeseburger was savory, the pickles were on point. Chocolate cake and mocha ice cream is so good.
