R. Jardim Botânico, 1008 - Jardim Botânico, Rio de Janeiro - RJ, 22460-030, Brazil, Granja
Historic park featuring diverse flora & fauna, a scientific research institute & garden trails.
One of the most beautiful botanic garden what i ever visited.
The garden is beautiful. Great surprise was the gang of Monkeys that we saw. This is the only place in Rio de Janeiro where I couldnt pay by card. If you are a little shy walking around with a bunch of cash in Rio then please remember that only hard coin will grant you access to the park.
Vast botanical garden with plants, cactuses and even a foresty trail. You can spend hours wandering around this place. There are also snack bars and toilets sprinkled throughout the park.
The botanical garden was founded in the 19th century. It is a stunning place where you can spend an entire day. You will find an orchid and bromelia atrium, a Japanese garden, some picturesque lakes, and many old trees apart from some historical sites. It is worth a visit when in Rio.
This is a massive and very informative & educational botanical garden, located in the beautiful city of Rio, near Ipanema. I’d recommend it for the nature & outdoors lovers; you will be amazed by the plethora of trees, plants & flowers species that it hosts and its massive area. Of particular note is their orchidarium, which I found to be rather well organised, and the pleasant encounters with the animals that live there. Finally there’s a good restaurant to be found near the main exit, which serves snacks, meals and refreshments.
Really beautiful and expansive (formerly imperialgardens in the heart of Rios south zone. Plan for at least 2-3 hours here, though more wouldnt be wasted. Its not small. The times Ive been its cash only so keep that in mind. Around R$70 per person if youre a foreign tourist. Brazilian nationals and those living in Rio get discounted pricing.A great place for a date or for anyone who enjoys checking out the local (and some exoticflora and fauna.
One of my favourite places in Rio, having been a resident for 10 years. Why 1 star? Closed on Wednesday in winter. They do not bother to inform the public on their website or otherwise. The result? Every few minutes visitors arriving to be informed they cannot get in that day. Such a disrespect for your public.
Stunning place, plenty of native trees and native birds. We saw a beautiful toucan. Also a cactus and herbs garden. There is a newly refurbished playground for the children and a restaurant nearby. Plenty things to do and not very expensive.
You can spend a relaxing day easily. Nice destination for photography.
The nicest botanical garden i have seen. You could spend a whole day here wondering around.Loved seeing the moneys playing around in the park.
It was okay. A bit underwhelming. Probably not in the top botanical gardens I’ve visited. The trees look bigger in the pictures than they are. And there isn’t much variety of plants. For 67 reais I don’t think it was worth it. And Nothing was in English at all, enough though foreigners pay like 10x as much for entrance.
Excellent place to visit if you are lucky to spend some time in Rio de Janeiro. It will be definitely interesting both for families with kids and even if you are alone. Lots of different plants: be ready to take many pictures 😊 I walked here for ~4 hours, and it was a brilliant way to spend the day. I also saw parrots (I guess so!and monkeys. Cute!Note for visitors: Prepare cash to buy tickets! Cards are not accepted.
For what is inside the garden this is way overpriced. 69 for foreigners, nothing spectacular to see electric train is extra cost. Barely any flowers. Looks more like a free park
With no doubt one of the most awesome place in the world!!! You have to reserve one full day to visit this place, there are so many varieties of plants, animals and insects, its really impressive! You gonna see also a diverse sort of gardens with a lot of ancient trees and beautiful flowers.
Best place in the world, this Botanical garden is one of the cutest I ever seen
Great and massive botanical garden. Looks of greenery, you get the sense you are in the rainforest far from the City of Rio. Looks of photo opportunities. If you are quiet and lucky you might see monkeys and unique birds of the rainforest. It definitely a must see in Rio.
Much bigger than we expected 😂Be advised, the ticket counter only takes cash, but you can get tickets online and just show them the QR code.If you want to see everything, it’s a half day affair at least. Lots of very cool trees to look at including the tree Brazil is named after (pau Brasil), a cactarium, an orchidarium, and lots more. It closes at 17, so come here with time to see stuff at a calmer pace than we did.If you get lucky, you might spot some nice beautiful native birds. We spotted a toucan, which was very nice.
Amazing view, nice calm walk around. If you not Brazilian it’s too pricey!! 70brazil money, it’s biggest minus, not fair a bit, but nice anyway;)
Beautiful, serene and peaceful, this botanical garden seems a bit derelict. I believe it is only an impression, created by the various winding paths paved in stone instead of asphalt, and the humidity which lends a green patina even to newer stonework.Overall, it is a great space, with beautiful local and foreign exhibits. The vistas keep changing and as you stroll through the garden you have opportunities to take the main road or less beaten paths, bringing you close to the beautiful trees and plants.A restful experience even if you walk for miles. Highly recommended.
Really beautiful sights. Recommend 100% to visit
Ah attraction that cant be missed by nature and history lovers
Nice peaceful place, beautiful 😍
Beautiful garden in Rio. Close to bus stops it is easy to get to.There is an entrance fee depending if youre Brazilian and a non Brazilian citizen.Garden is lush with plenty of exotic plants and tress.Perfect place to spend the afternoon.Plenty of amenities in the area: gift stores, washroom, restaurants, etc.Overall the garden is beautifully well maintainedWould recommend if visiting Rio and want to have a more quiet, tranquil and green experience.
Perfect place for afternoon walk i nice, old garden with trees, flowers, etc. Shop with drinks, ice cream, souvenires. Orchid, turtles, cashew nuts...
Its a lovely garden filled with shaded areas perfect for keeping cool on an afternoon. Fountains and irrigation canals surround you with the sound of falling water. The gazebo and meditation areas are especially nice. Its a little more expensive than other attractions in Rio and its cash only. The entry line goes rather slowly.
Very green and pretty exotic)Not huge, can be walked across in 20 minutes, but I spent 2 hours insideHas benches and a lot of shade, theres also a cafeteria inside (didnt visit).Entrance for foreigners is 67 reals! And they only accept cash, which was a big surprise. The ATM is a kilometer away, so make sure you have cashAlso, there are additional trail maps available in English and Portuguese at the desk opposite the gift store. I didnt take the guided tour, I used trail maps. They have historical trail maps and maps with amazonian species marked and described, and a couple more, maps are free)I wouldnt have learned about those if it hadnt been for the very pleasant and helpful English-speaking guide Vinicius, big thanks to him!!
Beautiful and representative garden of Brazil - informative with interesting and useful information posted in both Portuguese and English. Dont forgot the bug repellent!
When youre in its a nice place to visit and there is a lot of land to cover! The honeybees are so nice to see and unfortunately the orchid garden was closed. Now I gave this place 3 stars because although it is nice if you dont have cash (because maybe you lost your walletthen good luck getting in. Unfortunately just entering the park for us was difficult. They have an option to pay online yet they dont provide wifi unless youre a local with a Brazilian phone number and make it very difficult to pay online if youre a tourist who doesnt have a Brazilian bank account. Because of the slow wifi from my provider plus the attempt of trying to even process a payment we wasted a little over an hour just trying to get in. If it wasnt for a friend who later joined us and knew our problem therefore brought enough money for us to enter then we wouldnt have ever gone in.
This place doesn’t get enough publicity. It’s a gorgeous place to visit with lots to see. It’s a big park with hidden caverns, towers, lakes and much more. Definitely worth taking some time to walk and take in all the nature. There are lots of plants, flowers and animals. If the skies are clear you can see the Christ the Redeemer from below. It’s free to enter so don’t doubt about going!
Its beautiful but nothing really popped out. Ive seen better botanical gardens in Portland, Oregon and San Francisco, California. Im sorry, Brazil, but this one takes the back seat. Of course there were species of plants Ive never seen, but I left feeling like there couldve been more. It was dull in a sense. Worth the visit? A shaky yeah.
Excellent way to spend a Sunday and see some pretty amazing trees & plants. Also has at least a restaurant inside so you can stop for a pit stop and a snack
A definite must go when youre visiting Rio de Janeiro.Beautiful gardens, lots and lots of different and new trees and each of them have the detailed name and origin written. Many special areas such as Japanese garden, cactus area, medicinal plants etc. Also they have drinking fountain with pure clean water.I Really liked my visit.
Truly amazing place to walk around. We were a little early for all the flowers and blooms but it was still worth it. Make sure you have good walking shoes, we covered 8 Kms of walking. Loved the waterfalls that spread around the gardens. Oh and take cash for your tickets they do not accept cards for some reason.
One of the secret beauties of the city!Spent few hours here and it was magical! Go early so you can enjoy! Entry it’s free for some locals if you’re from rio and 7$ bucks if you’re foreigner
Great place to walk around and see the different types of trees and 🌺Make sure you bring cashFor foreigners it’s 60R which is not too bad
The Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden or Jardim Botânico is located at the Jardim Botânico district in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The Botanical Garden shows the diversity of Brazilian and foreign flora. There are around 6,500 species (some endangereddistributed throughout an area of 54 hectares (130 acresas well as numerous greenhouses. The garden also houses monuments of historical, artistic, and archaeological significance. There is an important research center, which includes the most complete library in the country specializing in botany with over 32,000 volumes. It was founded in 1808 by King John VI of Portugal. Originally intended for the acclimatization of spices like nutmeg, pepper and cinnamon imported from the West Indies, the garden was opened to the public in 1822, and is now open during daylight hours every day except 25 December and 1 January. The 140 hectares (350 acrespark lies at the foot of the Corcovado Mountain, far below the right arm of the statue of Christ the Redeemer and contains more than 6,000 different species of tropical and subtropical plants and trees, including 900 varieties of palm trees. A 750 metres (2,460 ftline of 134 palms forms the Avenue of Royal Palms leading from the entrance into the gardens. These palms all descended from a single tree, the Palma Mater, long since destroyed by lightning. Only about 40% of the park is cultivated, the remainder being Atlantic Forest rising up the slopes of Corcovado. The park is protected by the Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional and was designated as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1992. The Botanical Garden has an important research institute, which develops a wide range of botanical studies in Brazil. The institute has taxonomists who specialize in the identification and conservation of the neotropical flora.
One of the most spectacular botanical gardens I have ever visited. While the entrance fee might seem a little excessive at first, youll soon realise it was worth it. You cannot come to Rio and miss this place.
Love this place has everything you would want from a botanical garden from animal encounters to off the beaten path hiking spots. Its a huge forest and you can easily get lost in it. Beaware of bug bites and the monkeys watch any and all good you might have!
My top 3 favorite place visited in Rio. Because there was an entrance fee, it wasn’t as crowded as many of the other popular tourist spots are. HUGE garden with so many nooks and photo opportunities. 15 reias pp. my bf and I also ate at the restaurant and were able to get basic Portuguese and pointing at the menu (should have studied Portuguese more before we left 😅). Our lunch- 2 shrimp pastries, one giant ham and cheese sandwich and a medium sized baking dish full of fries with two bottled waters- was about $15 usd total. Check it out if u want a slice of tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle of the city.
This botanical garden is beautiful and absolutely massive! You can spend about 1 hour+ walking around here. You will find trees and plants collected from different parts of the world. I would advise you to wander around freely without looking at the map of the botanical gardens, its much better to encounter some surprises. I found a beautiful bamboo forrest while I was walking around and I sat in this forrest for about 10 minutes enjoying the sound of nature and admiring the light pearcing through the tall bamboo. If you love botanical gardens then this one is an absolute must visit! I went during carnival season and the streets are extremely noisy so if u want some peace and quiet during the carnival season this is the perfect escape.
I was so inspired by the big space and landscape of the garden. Many exotic plants and huge trees also Palm trees. There are hours to walk if you really like to see every corner of the Garden. However, there are many entertaining factors that will invite you more to see. If you are a nature loving individual you will enjoy varieties of plants and animals in their artificially made lakes and waterfalls. A special house for many exotic Orchids is worth a visit. If you have a problem and get tired of walking there is also a short Train-like vehicle who can bring you to your destination inside the Garden.
Well worth the entrance fee! A huge botanical garden which is set in a lovely neighbourhood of Rio offering welcome respite to the hustle and bustle of the city. A wide range of plants and birds can be seen and you can easily spend 3 or 4 hours here. We didn’t have time to try out the coffee shop and restaurant but they looked more than decent.
A very large and nicely laid out gardens. There are many different types of vegetation. It is a great place for birdwatching. There is also golf cart like trains that can take you through the garden which is included in your ticket. A very nice way to spend a couple hours.
Nice and relax in the middle of Rios chaos, not too expensive and safe. It feel more like walking in a tropical parc though, not a lot a clear explanation on what you are seeing, Beside the paper map...not real indicator to orientate your self....but a beautiful and calm place
A lovely place for a walk with some rare specimen trees with an avenue of possibly the tallest royal palms I have ever seen. I didnt see the hummingbird garden on this visit so will return. Price is 15Rs for an adult (Oct19)
Beautiful botanical garden. Interpretation is a bit light as an English speaker with little to no Portuguese skills but they had an app that sort of worked. That being said, it’s beautiful if you take things for what they are. Sure you might not know the name of that particular orchid you’re looking at but it’s still a gorgeous orchid. Good for an afternoon stroll and dirt cheap. ($7 each for admission as college students). There are a large number of monkeys around FYI. They seemed friendly enough but I could imagine them getting rowdy if you had food out. Nice experience at a great price and well worth the uber ride out from the more developed area around Copacabana. We will be back for sure!
Loved visiting this Garden. Would really recommend spending an afternoon here. Entrance prices are cheap (about R$15). They offer a discount if you are a student, so bring identification! I think spending about 4 hours would be enough time. There are a few places to get food inside, but its definitely not super cheap although not horribly expensive either.
A wonderful place to walk around, with a lot of beautiful trees and flowers!!! You will hear the wild birds singing and the water running through the streams....Elders and pregnant can take a golf cart to make the ride easier.🌻 I met two people riding their wheelchairs and enjoying the garden without any problem! There are accessible restrooms!
One of the most beautiful botanical gardens I have visited. It is well worth the entrance fee. The garden is well maintained and clean, the free map is not much of a help sometimes. The toilets isnt well marked which can be a bother if you dont speak Portuguese. The security personnel keep a watchful eye, and will quickly tell you if you not allowed to step on the grass.. all and all a wonderful day out
Such a beautiful Park great place to go if you want some peace and quiet. Lovely to take your kids let them run around and check out the awesome exhibits. There is a beautiful Trail that has tons of waterfalls and leads to the back of the park. Beautiful flowers a nice little cafe I highly recommend this place to any Family touring Rio !
