Jardim Botânico - Museum in Ponta Delgada, Portugal
Jardim Botânico in Ponta Delgada
Description
Such a restful place to enjoy a walk.
Price a bit high for what it is but still a nice little garden to visit on a lazy day.
MoreSome impressive trees and plants, very nice and quiet. Could do with a bit of tidying near the pond.
MoreVery lovely park. Incredible tree specimens. Theres a $5 fee to enter. Although it is in some ways comparable to the free park just down the street it does have a different kind of beauty and its nice because there are fewer people there. You can also see a cork tree and a paper tree. The bamboo forest is also very nice and the trails wind in and out of the forest and it does have the feel of being a lot more distant and remote once you were in there.
MoreVery nice, just a little small. Try to find the one british tree.
Its a nice place to go if you have a lazy day. I went there simply to see the sequoia trees. I asked the person selling the tickets if they had them here and he said yes but doesnt know where they are. No maps digital or on paper were available. He said his dad would know, but he was busy today. We ended up spending 30 minutes looking around to no avail. We googled to see where the trees might be and they said something about a waterfall which we never saw. Went to the entrance to talk to the attendant and he said there is a bigger jardim antero on the east.Had I known there was a bigger garden with bigger waterfalls etc I would have gone there. Unfortunately we would not have been able to get there within closing. You only need about 30 minutes at this place, there isnt much land that you walk through. My guess is you should probably go to the other garden.
More5 euros to get in, but such a wholesome experience. Mandatory to visit
Amazing garden, to relax and be in contact with nature 🍃🌿
An oasis of beauty and calm filled with wondrous plants and trees. Lots of cool shade. A really good cafe.
MoreReally beautiful garden, huge with several plants species.
Very beautiful old garden
Amazingly beautiful and peaceful garden in the city center of Ponta Delgada - walk distance from the sea - 15-20min! The entrance was €5 euros for an adult on Summer 2022 and the unique trees are stunning! Recommend!
Morelovely gardens and beautiful waterfall!
Nice enough garden, nowhere near as nice as Madeira but still worth a look
Very rare trees, big, enormous. Nice experience.
This botanical garden is not very well taken care of (especially the rose gardenbut it has interesting trees and plants in general. I liked the fact that there were paths which you could discover with the help of the map.
MoreVery beautiful park full of trees and flowers from all around the world and Also endemic flowers, bushes and trees from Azores. I loved It, a walk IS a must in Ponta Delgada, maybe after or before lunch.
MoreRelaxing park with a lot of interesting trees from especially Australia.
Very nice gardens with plenty of benches to sit down and relax.€5 admission fee and it comes with a map of the gardens. There are clean toilets located near the Palace, the ones next to the Pond were locked. The gentleman working at the ticket booth is very friendly and will give you a quick explanation as he hands you the map.Doors close at 7 pm but you can stay longer, if by the time you leave the door is closed all you have to do is ring the bell located just below the security camera near the entrance and someone will open the door for you remotely.
Morethe bambo and 2 great trees from aussie land are amazing!go on a sunny day
Amazing place, beautiful garden and breathtaking trees! ❤️
This is a beautiful spot in Ponta Delgado and lovely in the rain, with some really gorgeous trees and flowers. Don’t miss it!
MoreVery nice place to be. Calm and refreshing atmosphere. Loved the old trees and lush plants everywhere. Definitely worth a visit!
MorePeaceful, clean, loved it
Very beautiful garden! If you are walking around must to go :)
Stunning...magical...magnificent...mysterious...beautiful...awe inspiring...historical...relaxing...majestic and marvelous. I could go on and on, but this botanical garden was absolutely gorgeous and the sun wasnt even shining the day we went. I can only imagine what it be like to see this garden in the splendor of the sun. Such an amazing place to visit.
MoreLovely place with amazing trees! Worth a visit.
Amazing, beautiful and really big park with all sort of trees in the middle of downtown Ponta Delgada, the last time I went here it was by appointment, right now I really dont no I its working. In my opinion its the park to visit when visiting Ponta Delgada. I really think its beautiful and that theres a lot to explore.
MoreA must visit for garden lovers. Certainly some old growth/heritage trees with global, endemic, and horticultural species. Kauri, banyan, oaks, palms, cycads. Casually laid out, minimal interpretation and directional signage which was fine for me but it would have been nice to see some more. Not terribly accessible so if you have additional needs plan on bumpy cobblestones, moss paths, and some stones and grass. Overall a lovely variety and a little oasis tucked in the city.
MoreLovely walk around for 1 hour.
Really beautiful botanical garden! Just 4 euros, worth the visit if you love nature.
MoreVery nice botanical garden in the city center of Ponta Delgada. Entry costs 4 EUR which allows you to walk freely in the very spacious garden as long as you want, with a brochure. Definitely worth spending an hour (or twoin during your Ponta Delgada visit.
MoreSuch a pleasant, interesting, and compact place. And so close to and such a contrast to the beautiful Ponta Delgada city streets. If the weather is poor, either rainy or too hot, definitely come here. And thanks to the very informative man in the ticket office who wisely recommended to us to take the outer trails so that you dont miss some of the nicest trees.
MoreAfter Terra Nostra it is not so impressive. Nice forest, tho.
Beautiful botanic garden and the best place on the island for a private event as a memorable wedding with the full support of Silvia Vasconcelos events.
MoreThis park amazed us! It’s the perfect balance between an untouched nature vibe and a beautifully kept park. It has a variety of trees and plants from all over the world, which are all healthy. If you want a surprise garden of eden in the city, this is the place to go.
MoreGreat park almost in the city centre. Entrance for 4 euro per person. Inside a lot of different species all over the world! Gigantic ficuses, mammoth araukarias and plenty of palm trees. Good sort of Brasilian flora too. Not crowded. Definitely worth seeing.
MoreVery nice maintained park with plants 🌿 from different parts of the world 🌐.
MoreBeautiful gardens with many exotic plants and a tranquil area to relax or wander.
MoreJose do Canto Garden was a beautiful place to spend an afternoon and wander around the various garden sections. I happened to visit here on a sweltering hot day, so it was nice to pop in and out of the shade and wander at my leisure. The gardens were well maintained and they were setting up for a wedding while I was there, which was lovely to see. There is a small entrance fee but I feel its worth it for the amount of work it must take them to keep it all looking lovely.
MoreThere is an entry fee of 4 EUR / person. The park itself is just OK, not that well maintained. For us it was a bit disappointing and in my opinion its not worth the fee. We saw beautiful parks throughout the island and most of them for free. As a part of the park you can also visit a small chapel. There is a small free parking lot along the route just outside the park for those by car.
MoreQuick spot to tour a beautiful botanical garden. Don’t be turned off that it closes at 7-you can use the gate button to open upon leaving if you come late. It’s €4/per person, and there is a hotel and bar on site as well.
MoreDo peaceful. I loved the trees. It cost 5 Euro to get in, but it was worth it to see the trees.
MoreStunning. Large and old majestic trees.
The garden is really beautiful and its so quiet. You can sit there or walk around. The price with 2 euro/person and 1 euro for children is okay.
MoreWe absolutely loved this botanical garden. It features some amazing old trees and is a calm oasis in Ponta Delgada
MoreJosé do Canto Garden- €4 admission with no senior or student discounts. It is primarily an arboretum though there is a rose area (a couple of roses were blooming alreadyand also some camellias. The trees are labeled with their scientific names and their Portuguese and English common names as well as where they are from. There are some very impressive tree specimens in particular two Australian Ficus (Figtrees that have substantial buttress roots. The bamboo groves are nice to see, too. There are also artful informative azulejo tiles and a small chapel.
MoreVery tranquil and gorgeous garden. Worth visiting when in Ponta Delgada
Beautiful camelia flowers in abundance. Awesome variety of plant species.
Lovely, quiet garden with some interesting layouts and a magnificent Moreton Bay Fig tree from 1845. I visited in January when the weather was overcast, but I can imagine in the heat of summer it would be a lovely cool shady oasis.
