Fusion spot dishes out sushi rolls with Latin-influences, such as cilantro & mango, plus happy hour.
Visited Seattle for my birthday. Decided to give this place a try since it was recommend by a handful of Washington natives. Boy, were they right! Amazing selections of sushi rolls, and other amazing Japanese options. Good atmosphere, vegetarian options are available. If you are in town, it’s a must place to try if you love sushi!
Really appreciate this place every time Im in Seattle! Love their happy hour and freshness/quality of their sushi! Highly recommend!
Went here on a business trip. Ordered the union special roll and a sashimi appetizer. I order a lot of sushi and this was one of the best I’ve had. Definitely recommend for any sushi lover. Could be that kirin ichiban on tap though.
Stopped by around 8pm on Saturday night. We’re able to get my party of two a table but I’m the future I would make a reservation! Portions were good for the price. Sushi rolls were fresh and had great flavor twists. Recommend!
The sashimi was so fresh and delicious 🤤 I am so happy we went here since the portion, taste, and atmosphere was perfect. The rolls for lunch time (which was like 11-5:30PM I thinkwere all the same price so you could pick the one(syou like without worrying about their cost being more or less than others.I would say 1-2 rolls is enough for one person, but if youre more hungry than average, get a third roll or a side.
Been here a few times now, good sushi. Tried their spicy tuna roll and the veggie roll with mango sauce, both of them weee good. The spicy tuna roll is must try, it’s not too spicy but has so many dimensions to it! The tofu pot was delicious too. It’s located very close to other Seattle attractions. If you are there before 5pm you can also cross over to Fran’s chocolates and get some hot chocolate!
we celebrated our friends birthday here!!! sushi was extremely tasty!!! desserts are also appropriate, I recommend trying them!!! the waiters were attentive and fast! nice, cozy place!
First night in Seattle and I went to dine here by myself. The chef’s Omakase was amazing. The service super quick. The waiter gifted me a scoop of ice cream on the count of me being alone and it being my first night in the city. Loved everything, will come back for sure!
I read the reviews here and had high expectations. However, quality of the fish here was just okay, very subpar compared with other sushi places in the area. Maybe we should not have ordered nigiri as most people order sushi rolls, but they were suuuper small (less than half of the size of fish you would get at another placein the picture you can see they squeezed 2 orders of nigiri into a tiny takeout container (usually wouldn’t even fit one order). It would have been fine if the fish was good but it was meh, even the salmon was kind of tough. The rolls were OK they had no flavor and the fish in there was also meh but I guess you can’t expect much from non specialty rolls. They also have 10% automatic gratuity included for takeout, but the employee who handed me the food was rude. I accidentally stepped into the restaurant part and she seemed very annoyed by that.
I’ve tried 50+ sushi restaurants in my life (mostly in New York Citybut this Seattle spot has the best sushi I’ve ever tried. Freshest fish; amazing Japanese/Mexican flavors.
Very strong selection of high quality fish. Like 4 different types of salmon alone (not cuts, species.Great service and they also have a some creative rolls if you’re into that.
What a lovely dinner option in DT Seattle. We did the Omakese (Chef’s choicesushi and shashimi (pictured / 50$ per). It was fantastic and plenty of food for two hungry adults. The drinks were all tasty (I would avoid the Boy Scout *watered downThe miso soup and the mushrooms were tasty. The happy hour menu was allowable despite not during window of time which was very nice. We will be back!
Wonderful experience! Great service and amazing chefs that made this for us! The chefs selection was very delicious! Top quality! Additionally, they cocktails are really nice!
Nice place for some sushi downtown. Parking can be tough to find since it is downtown, but there should be some street parking. There might be a wait, especially as this place gets busy at night, so it wouldn’t hurt to call or reserve. Nice little cozy atmosphere, but can feel a little cramped. There are a lot of rolls to choose from and they all taste pretty great. Can’t go wrong with anything. When it’s busy service might take a while, so be prepared for that, otherwise waitstaff is pretty nice. Not super overpriced for the value and portions. Overall some good sushi in a nice central location. Worth eating on a night out.
I had a great time with great food.Rolls at this restaurant are very nice.Sushi were great as well, and I enjoyed the novelty of a sweet note on top of them.We tried the sashimi otoro and I recommend it as it is delicious and sizeable, although I think it was chutoro as slightly less fatty than I am used to, delicious regardless.Service was good.Ill visit this place many more time when I come to Seattle.
Great place for fusion Japanese. Their specialty rolls are innovative and full of fun flavor combinations. This isnt my choice for traditional sushi or sashimi experience, but rather a great place for new and fun presentations and blends of flavors.Service here was great. Friendly and attentive.
Went for dinner here and absolutely loved the place. The decor and service was great. Tried the garlic short ribs which were good. I took the green tea sour whiskey based cocktail and that went well with the short ribs. My wife took the lucky seven sushi(which is 7 premium cut sushi of chefs choiceof which she liked the yellow tail the best. I had taken the Scorpio sting which was really good and I highly recommend it. In the desert we took the cheese cake which is also something I would recommend and definitely come back for. All in all it was a great experience and would definitely come back again.
Sushi rolls were excellent. Expensive but worth it and portion size was large. I especially liked the Love Hunter but the Union was quite good too. Tempura was just right, not soggy and just the right amount of bite to the veggies. Recommend the Lycheekeen as a cocktail.
Best sushi downtown! Delicious rolls and drinks from their night time happy hour menu.
Excellent place. I had the Union roll which was delightful, it had the perfect flavor profile. My martini was great as well. Nice atmosphere here and a great way to start the night for a party.
Loved this place. Used to bring so many friends here but lately service went downhill. Sushi prices also went up considering the tiny amount of fish. HH prices also rip off... Service is always so slow and many times they would forget something. I started taking takeout and one day their app didnt work and they charged me $4 for order over phone! i come here to pick my order by myself and get charged for "processing fee order over the phone" lol Most ridiculous thing I ever heard. Had to talk to manager to get my fee refunded and showed her that their app wasnt working that day on bbot. After that I am avoiding this place, seems they are so busy because of the good location and they dont care about locals anymore...
Me and my husband normally are not sushi’s fan. But on our trip to Seattle, we found this place on Google search and decided to try some. They offered me a cooked version which was jus great. And, I might be back for it soon!
We had a great server to take care of us. A friend of mine was visiting from the UK and the food made the get together enjoyable. Food can be pricey here and it seems prices have gone up rather significantly lately. Inflation could be the cause.General food quality and freshness of the fish was fantastic.
Their omakase was pretty solid, the fish was really high quality. I definitely recommend their happy hour if you have the chance. We had a big party and our wait was reasonable while the restaurant was busy. We had a great time would come again!
First day in Seattle decided to go to the famed japonessa bc everyone says this place has good happy hour starting when they open to 5?6? Well they were right!!!I got one of their special rolls, which btw if youre a lady like me and was eating alone, just be warned they give you a full roll of like 10 pieces (I loved it and brought some home to continue eating. Lolbut love that this place doesnt skimp for happy hour like MOST places. I also go the salmon sashimi, which was nice and fresh!!The host was great, super sweet person who seared me right away and even asked me where I would prefer sitting down and the waitress was super attentive considering it was happy hour lunch rush hour ya know? Great service!Legit enjoyed this place. Go!
Good food. Expensive...... Sushi with a twist!! If you go plan to spend some time trying to find parking. Best advice, pay for parking. We did and it was only $6.The food was good, different but very tasty!
Hello to fellow celiac disease sufferers! Japonessa has a separate gluten free menu and the servers will bring out the gluten free tamari for your sushi if you ask for it! I always order miso soup, a gluten free roll, and ask for a nigiri sushi set made gluten free even though it isn’t marked. They are very accommodating and leave off any sauces that are not safe. The happy hour prices are AWESOME and the sushi is delicious. This is definitely one of my favorite places to eat out!Judge by your own sensitivity since there is always a risk of cross contamination in a shared kitchen. I, personally, have never had a cross contamination incident here.
The service was excellent. The food was delicious. Honestly some of the best sushi I have had.
Very good food and recommended date place. Great veggie options and must try Green Dacendena sushi. Also has a dedicated bar. Just look at the last plate. We swooped it all 🤤Left to right in order(Ranks in that order as well)Green Dacendena(Must try)Veggie roll(Good flavor)Tofu roll(Typical, skip if you want)choc cafe mocha mousse cake(It’s great)Boy Scout Cocktail(Decently mixed)
Located in the heart of downtown, Japonesa is a well appreciated sushi spot amongst a sea of options. The interior is well designed and clean. The tables are relatively close together, but it doesn’t feel tight. The food is very good - everything felt fresh and thoughtfully prepared. I will definitely be back!
Pretty expensive but the food was amazing. Great fish quality except for the salmon which tasted a bit old but otherwise the fish was very fresh. The scallop ceviche was excellent
Overall, a fantastic dining experience. It did take about 20 minutes to get our first drink, but after that the food came quickly and was so delicious. Beware the roll size! They are BIG. Totally worth it. And the sashimi was perfect.
We happened to pass by this place on our way back to hotel. We were there in time for happy hour. We planned to eat light because we wanted to have dinner later. Ordered 3 rolls — salmon skin, shrimp tempura, and the veggie roll. All 3 were delicious, especially the shrimp tempura. My child asked for a second shrimp tempura roll, immediately devouring it when it came to the table. We also got a side salad and edamame—both were fresh and delicious.
Overpriced for what it is unless you go for happy hour. The $15 Taco Tuesday was part of our dining experience. Definitely was not offered a cocktail along with our tacos. Unless it’s exclusively for Tuesday happy hours, which then is unclear from the table top signs as well as the Updates section on here.
Never disappointed. The only thing is they might short of worker, the service a bit slow. Didn’t order a lot this time but maybe will add more picture. Check out their happy hour from 12 to 5.30pm and 9pm until closed.
Thoroughly alright. Came by for Friday lunch after spending the morning at SAM across the street. Claims to be fusion, but none of the three rolls were particularly interesting: it really seemed like standard sushi restaurant fare. Bluefin otoro (you should always get otoro when presented with different *toro options!was a generous serving for the price. All in all, not an awful experience, but nothing that makes us want to come back.
Great sushi place conveniently located right next to the Seattle art museum. I tried belly platter which was just meting in my mouth. Staffs were very attentive, helpful, friendly.
Stopped here with boyfriend to meet some friends. We sat at the bar and it was a chill atmosphere. Fresh sushi, delicious drinks, and a great location. Within walking distance of other cool places to check out.
My wife and I love this place. The hot sake and sushi are delectable; the staff is always persoable and highly professional; the ambience and cleanliness areexcellent. In fact, having the occasional date here is the only reason my wife and I travel to downtown Seattle.
Always enjoy this place. The sushi is always good and never had issues getting seated. The fish seemed fresh and really enjoyed the jalapeños roll! Definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area.
My first time at this restaurant was excellent and unique. The servers were attentive, polite, and friendly. The atmosphere was warm and cozy with old and romantic decorations. I came in with my girlfriend and got some delicious fresh sushi sets and rolls. I highly recommend this place for everyone who wants to enjoy excellent sushi in downtown Seattle.
Nice place for date night. Really need to call for reservation or you will have to wait very long. Food is really good. Fish is fresh, service is really nice. I would recommend to come during happy hour for lower price rolls and dishes.
The sushi was decent. I had high hopes because the place looks fantastic. The ambiance and decor are phenomenal however I ordered my food to go. If you have the option, definitely try to eat there. It is located in a nice area right near the public market however the vagrant population around it is depressing.I ordered the Diabla Say and Super Bad Boy which are signature rolls along with the Kimchi Hot Pot. The Diabla Say is supposed to be super spicy but it is just slightly spicy. Not the best roll, just decent. I would not order it again. The Super Bad Boy was good and I would order it again. The best thing was the Kimchi Hot Pot which I very much enjoyed especially on a cold dreary day.
Great atmosphere. Really excellent food. Their emperor roll is perfection 🥰 The staff was very helpful. Had a great time
A nice spot to hit if you are craving sushi and in the downtown Seattle area close to Pike place. Service was very friendly. Our server was newer and didnt have all the answers right away but was very obliging in finding out everything we needed to know.JaponessaMadrid moon 5 starsGreat balance on flavors. The truffle oil comes through nicelyChicken karage 3 starsThe texture of the batter was great but the chicken itself didnt have much flavor.Omakase $100 4 starsIm used to omakase being presented in courses. This one was more of a chefs choice of sashimi, sushi or combination mix.The problem with sushi done this way is the rice isnt as optionally fresh. None of it is, as it has to sit there while the rest of it is finished getting prepared. For a chefs choice sashimi and sushi combo it was a good deal especially when you look at their pricing for regular items. Not all of it was as fresh as I would like (some was a bit slimy, the rice wasnt ideal and the fatty red tuna has silver skin on it, but I will say it was exceptionally fatty).Japanese cheesecakePresentation is a 3 star but the flavor was a 5 for me. They get it from a bakery in the area.Parking is downtown parking. We walked there from our hotel, so we did not run into any issues.I do hope we see an improvement in their rice. It was flavorless and dry on our visit. Even the side order of sushi rice we had wasnt clean, there were browned bits in it.
This restaurant was a wonderful experience. I cannot wait to visit again whenever I come back to Seattle. The servers were friendly, the water tasted amazing, and the food was delicious. I highly recommend getting a reservation beforehand; you will be serviced a lot quicker and I was thankful to have done that since I took my partner and friend there by own invite.
Came here for a quick happy hour stop. One roll, some sashimi, and salad later along with some happy hour drinks we were on our way. Seems like a busy spot based on location more so than quality. We were brought incorrect dishes on two occasions. We also didn’t get the reason the restaurant name is in Spanish apart from some dish names also in Spanish and not really fusion cuisine.
My wife wanted to eat sushi and was hoping to find a place that served quality made sushi. Japonessa was on our walking path and looked pretty crowded, so we thought it might be worthwhile. We were texted that a table was ready after a short wait. She placed her order and since I wasnt hungry, I only asked for sake. They make a fantastic presentation and awesome sushi. Our server made a very good choice when I asked him for a recommendation on sake. So glad we made the visit.
Fresh fish in unique light sauce flavors. On Sunday they have a awesome happy hour with half price rolls. It was really tasty. I would recommend this place for sure.
Really great tasting sushi rolls!!! But if you dont go during happy hour its a $$$. Expensive! So try to go only during happy hour, youll enjoy it way more. Surprised its only $$ on Google, should definitely be $$$$ on Google.
