Japanese Kitchen Kura - Japanese restaurant in Penticton, Canada
Food was excellent. Need a few more tables, but I will definitely go back and recommend this place.
Good food, good service and comfortable dining area. The only issue was parking lot. There is only one entrance/exit combination.
The food is excellent, parking sucks, Id recommend parking at DQ to pick up your food. Good prices and fresh quality. Will order again. Loved the unique sushi rolls.
It the quaint hole in the wall places that reveal the gems. The sushi is diverse, well prepared and presented, with excellent prices. I am glad I found this place and will enjoy visiting again. The family here is very sweet and polite as well. They also serve sake which was perfect to end the day
Enjoyed the lunchbox and noodle soup with chicken. Friendly people here!
Seems like they dont add msg to their sushi, that it is a good thing: healthier and you can actually taste the ingredients. The environment needs some work done to make the place cozier, but I guess its fair to say dependent on the customer traffic to generate extra cash to spend on renos.
Ok seriously season the rice and it was dry lack of flavour destroyed my first experience
Taste, quality and price is all GOOD!!๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ปYuko is a good caring owner! Thank you!!๐ธ
Authentic, unassuming and underrated โma and paโ Japanese. Must try the shu mai, chawanmushi and tan tan men, which are some of the best Iโve ever had.
UPDATED REVIEWA small cute and clean restaurant. I was charmed by its simple interiors.Got the salmon and tuna combo. Sashimi and sushi combo. BC roll. Unagi nigiri. Yellowtail mackerel. Spicy chopped scallop roll. Spicy tuna roll. The pictures show the roll pieces as is, and also with some of the sauce taken off.The bigger pieces of fish tasted good! Nigiri was better than rolls IMO and I would come back for more nigiri. The rolls are simple. Tempura batter is more eggy and has a banh zheo batter taste too it. Maybe corn flour added? I cant tell what it is, but its different from other tempura Im used to. Not bad just different. I LIKED HOW FRESH everything was. The tempura was warm still, the rice to temperature and the right amount of tact.Service was friendly and bright. Can call in to make takeout/pickup orders.I noticed there wasnt wasabi in the nigiri between fish and rice.Overall I think its a good place to go to given its location, prices, and service. I would come again and recommend it.Free parking outside the store in a small lot.If youre used to Vancouver sushi, just remember youre in Penticton. The ginger taste/smelled badly of wood so I didnt enjoy that. A little bit of harder bones in the unagi.
Chawanmushi is awesome, the fish is nice and fresh and the rice is seasoned to perfection!
Always a great experience. Fantastic authentic Japanese food
Best sushi in town for price, flavour, freshness, and speed. Friendly service and nice menu choices. My go to when I donโt want to cook or spend a lot of $$
Very authentic Japanese food, very flavourful and tasty. Reminds me of the food my family made. Highly recommend trying it out. They have takeout as well as sit down.
Well....i cant fairly rate this place as I never actually ate there.Took time going out of my way to go there after checking page only to find them closed. Hours on door said should be open but a small hand written note said back at 430....an hour a half after I got there....no idea how long that was up.Irritated!
This is definitely the best Japanese restaurant in Penticton. Delicious and authentic. Oishi!
Very tiny restaurant - only 4 tables served by 1 waitress. However, meals are delicious and place seems to be popular enough among locals
Wonderful sushi, and really good value for the money compared to others in town! Try their steamed pork dumplings!
From a voice that has eaten sushi all over the world. I truly could give this place 5 stars. Great for lunch or dinner a good spot to hit up!
Excellent Japanese food. Very simple decor, good service, good prices, good variety on the menu. Location in a busy area, but adequate parking. This is our "go to" restaurant for really tasty food.
Worst sushi Ive ever had!!! Penticton people must have low sushi standards. I couldnt even finish eating. Had to stop. Stomach felt off for rest of the day. Fish had skin still on it and the sashimi was link and tasted awful!
Had an outstanding meal at Japanese Kitchen Kura. The sushi and shashimi was very fresh here, my favourite being the tuna and the horse mackerel. The chawanmushi and the egg custard dessert was absolutely delicious. The staff is helpful and very welcoming. Dine in and take out options were available. Easy free parking in front of the restaurant.
Reasonable prices and delicious sushi. Phone order was easy and ready for pickup.
Food was delicious, restaurant was clean. Only about 4 tables so quite intimate. We took take out but there is one washroom.
Great ramen, friendly service. We will definitely come back.
Best seafood udon in town. After eating here for a couple years I can say the quality never wavers and Kura maintains its quiet and cozy atmosphere. Very polite staff always greeted with a smile, good prices for quality food. If you like japanese food this place is a must try.
Top pic for sure!! Great place to take the fam or meet clients. Very clean, food is always made fresh and the staff friendly and accommodating
Authentic Japanese restaurant with cosy vibes. Thoroughly enjoyed the freshness of the dishes and the friendliness and cheerfulness of the staff. Reasonably priced menu. Overall a delight!
I liked everything about my visit except for the main dish so Im going to guess it was a mistake or more likely my own misunderstanding. Setting is quiet and relaxed. Service is friendly.
Really lovely food, good atmosphere and great prices!!!This is my Fav sushi joint in Penticton.Amazing Udon, Specialty sushi rolls, Miso soup is warm and comforting and they are fast!Highly recommend even just to have a cucumber roll. you wont be disappointed!
I rarely give out 5 star. But this place really nailed, I am really surprised to find high quality Japanese food in the small town. Ate here three day in a roll, everything I order was above average.
Driving through and stopped for takeout. Wonderful presentation and care in a takeout order. BC Roll was especially pretty and well garnished and of course very tasty, albeit I forgot to take a picture, but got a picture of my vegetarian rolls. Highly recommend this place.
Very nice place to eat. Small and clean, the service was polite and very accommodating. I was very happy with the food, particularly the home made hot sauce which was amazing.
Great quality and authentic Japanese cuisine at modest prices. The sushi is always fresh and well executed. They also offer seasonal dishes: the Hiyashi Chuka cold ramen is delightfully refreshing in the summer weather. Dont be fooled by the ordinary decor; the food is created from quality ingredients with great attention. The service is also attentive and polite.Update: This is my favourite Japanese restaurant in town. I love that they offer something different and authentic. My favourites: mackarel nigiri, chawanmushi, and tan tan ramen.
Solid sushi restaurant with some interesting menu options (pictured is a kimchi roll with cream cheese). Worth trying if youre looking for something new.
A very clean restaurant. The family owned staff are super friendly and provide great service. I Visit here at least once every 2 weeks and the food is consistently good and the value for money is great too. Menu is very simply and not overwhelming.
I discovered this little gem after being disappointed with the wait times at the other places..lol..It has quickly become my favourite place. Courteous staff, and great food. If you havent been, you must try it!
Stopped in to kill an hour and ended up having a lovely lunch. The lunch box meals are just perfect, a little bit of sushi, a little bit of meat, and some pickled salads to finish it all up. The sushi is very nice, even though Im not very adventurous with it. All in all a really great little place for a bite to eat.
This is my favorite Japanese restaurant! They keep their Menu, relatively small, maintaining the quality of each dish. Nigiri sushi I enjoyed tonight were all so fresh and tasty to say the least. Im so thankful that we have Japanese Kitchen Kura in Penticton.
Excellent sushi. Small business, very clean. Great alternative to all the fast food franchises surrounding it... and surprise, you get your food fairly fast!!
Excellent food. Small and quiet. Not fancy but very nicely decorated and clean. Polite efficient service. Great place.
Great sushi, better than several other places weve tried. Japanese snacks available for purchase. Chawanmushi is great! Really worth trying, nice and hot, but not heavy. Great service and intimate atmosphere. Came twice already and will definitely be back.
Small business with fantastic sushi. Havent had there rice bowls yet but Id bet theyre great. Also they got more flavors of Hi-Chew, which is a huge bonus.
I came for lunch and had the salmon and tuna combo. This is seriously good sushi for 11.00, you get real salmon. I am impressed with the quality of the fish. The sushi was very good and the spicy rolls were actually spicy. The owner was very nice and the service was good. A little slow but not bad. Give it a try. Great choice.
Has some of the best Ramen I have ever had.Sparse interior and a little slow, but the spicy Miso Ramen is pure deliciousness. Well worth the visit.
Food was DELICIOUS. Real shiso leaves were a beautiful and tasty garnish. Unagi was the best we have ever had. First and last choice for sushi in Penticton.
My wife and I regularly eat here. Food is always fresh and flavorful. Also the only place in bc with spicy pork ramen that I have found, it taste like it does when I had it in japan. Very good food every time and never disappointed.
Good sashini, nigiri and assorted sushi/japanese dishes. It was priced very well, looked good and tasted amazing. Good job guys, will be my new sushi joint.
Quality is always excellent. Im not a big fan of sushi so I eat a lot of their other dishes. In the summer time you have to try their Hiyashi Chuka.
The food here is always made with such love and care. I cant say enough good things about Kura. The staff and owners are wonderful people and provide great service with consistantly excellent food and good prices. What more can you ask for?
