Janganmun Gate in Ansan

This is definitely one of the cooler looking gates/fortifications on the city wall, although it is way more impressive from the outside than it is from atop the wall

장안문은 수원화성의 북문이다. 정조는 장안의 의미를 ‘북쪽으로 서울의 궁궐을 바라보고, 남쪽으로 현륭원(융릉)을 바라보며 만년의 편안함을 길이 알린다.’ 라고 풀이했다. 하나의 홍예문 위에 2층 누각을 올리고 문밖에 항아리 모양의 옹성을 만들고 방어를 위해 문에서 53보 되는 곳 좌우에 적대를 세웠다. 장안문은 남문인 팔달문과 더불어 화성에서 가장 웅장하고 높은 격식을 갖춘 건물이다. 2층의 누각은 네 모서리 추녀가 길게 경사를 이루면서 용마루와 만나는 우진각 지붕 형태다. 길고 휘어진 목재를 구하기 힘든 조선 시대에 우진각 지붕은 궁궐이나 도성의 정문과 같은 건물에만 쓰였다. 문루 처마 밑에는 다포라는 화려하고 정교하게 다듬은 목재를 짜 맞췄는데, 다포식 건물은 18세기 이후 궁궐에서도 거의 백년 동안 짓지 않았기 때문에 특별히 강원도 출신의 승려 목수인 굉흡이 와서 건설을 도왔다. 서울의 숭례문, 흥인지문과 함께 조선 시대 성문을 대표하던 장안문은 한국 전쟁 때 폭격으로 파괴되어 1975년에 다시 복원하였다. 석축에 총탄 자국이 남아있다.옹성 : 성을 지키기 위하여 성문 밖에 쌓은 작은 성용마루 : 지붕 가운데 부분에 있는 가장 높은 수평 마루

If in Suwon you need to visit this destination, for pictures, for the history, and just because. There are a lot of cafes pubs and restaurants beside the wall that allow for great views of the sunset. romantic walkway along the wall and for the history buffs this place does not lack.

I liked to see the picture of this gate during the Korean War. I liked the feeling of the gate and proud of it going through wars.

Beautiful Gate of Suwo(Korea)

Easy to access by bus.. The whole place itself was amazing. A lot of cute cafes inside the Hwaseong Suwon fortress area.

Beautiful historical experience. There are brochures at the entrance in English and several other languages that explain the gates history, and its just a short walk from Namdaemun Market.

It is a main gate of Suwon Hwaseung fortress. The name represents king Jongjos affection toward suwon citzen. Because the meaning of Jangan is longevity and welfare.

Very nice structure and view, and free entrance too. There are stairs behind the walls so tou can see a better view of the fortress walls... better to go sightseeing during sunset.

Excellent place to be in the middle of the day

One of the four gates to the city. This gate is located next to the main road so it is not that peaceful on one side but it is better on the park side. Being next to a road make it a little difficult to admire nor walk about.
