Jane's Black Swan Cafe - Chinese restaurant in Pueblo, United States
Weve been getting the same order for about 5 yrs now. The combo fried rice seems to be getting 1 shrimp less and less meat every year but the price keeps going up. I dont know if its because we order with no onion that we get mainly rice but i thought by now theyd add some pea pods, diced carrots,, water chestnuts, or something to their mix so it wasnt just rice but alas, they havent. Its hard to find a Chinese restaurant in town that doesnt go overboard on garlic and onions so were forced to stay with them and just "doctor" it up ourselves. Also, $5.00 for 2 egg rolls??? Are you kidding me?!?! SMH!
The food is good especially there fried rice
The food was very good. Its take out only, so you have to call in your order before you go to the restaurant.
Terrible.. I was expecting alot more from all the hype around the chicken.Sadly all I can say is the poor chickens died for no reason.1. Breading was falling off chicken and it was to dry from being over cooked and or burnt2. The breading had no spice to tasteSo yeah them birds died for no dang reason.
Best Chinese Food in Pueblo! They are never stingy with their dishes and you feel satisfied.
Luv this place and Jane is awesome she always remembers us and makes us feel welcomed thank u Jane the Soto family u know a beef and broccoli with fried rice dinners and egg rolls lol
Very yummy . Great service.
They are only doing takeout at this time. No dine in. We got their famous fried chicken, the pork lo mein and shrimp chopsuey with fried rice. Everything was just ok. I honestly did not see the wowness of the fried chicken. Yes, the crust was very good, but the chicken itself was dry. The fries that came with it were decent. The Chinese portion of the food was ok. The lo mein felt a little dry and bland and actually tasted better the next day. The chop suey was surprisingly good. Went well with the friend rice and by itself. All in all, just ok.I may be the rarity, but I really didnt see why everyone raves about the fried chicken here.
Been hankerin to try this cafe for years and I finally did. This is an odd menu, featuring traditional American fried chicken meals on the one hand, and traditional Chinese meals on the other. I placed one order for fried chicken and a second order for Mongolian shrimp. Orders were ready in less than 10 minutes, not the 15 minutes I was told, and the fried chicken was better than that of the OTHER best fried chicken place in Colorado place, the exquisite Juniper Valley Ranch off HWY 115. Also, the Mongolian shrimp was to die for. Service was prompt and friendly; prices were reasonable. I will be going back here often.
Just picked up lunch to go. The food was all very good. We had the General Tsos chicken and the Szechuan Beef lunch plates. Both very satisfied. The side of dumplings (pot stickerswas soooo good. The garlic soy dip made it super special. We shall return soon.
Best fried chicken! Have been going here since I was a little kid.
Best chicken fried rice in town, but you cant go wrong ordering anything from here
Horrible Place to eat, use to recommend all the time but place went down hill past few years, horrible service and very small portions, would never return to this place, going to celebrate when they shut down.
This was my Dads favorite to eat out. Its been in Pueblo for years. In the same family, not the same cook! They serve both Chinese and American food. The food is all good and the portions are generous (two easily share the 7 piece chicken dinnerand the prices are reminiscent of the 1960s!
This place is amazing. The food was fresh and hot. Very flavorful. Great portions. Cant say anything bad about this place
I love the food here, its become one of my favorite places to order take out from and the price isn’t bad.
The food was great! The Mexican male waiter was short on patience and even made a snide remark! Because we asked a question about the menu! Thought about not tipping him, but its christmas! They all need to get happier down there! Not the greatest atmosphere!!
Its nasty drgustin I say dont waist your money not the original owners. This place is not even good its cheap sloppy food
Most of the pork in the pork fried rice was green, there was absolutely no egg in the rice. The vegetables in the chicken in garlic sauce were hard and crunchy. The long black hair in this meal was absolutely disgusting !! Never was a discount offered, the server actually charged more than what was on the ticket. He forgot to charge for 2 of the 4 egg rolls that was supposed ro be a appetizer, but were served with the horrible meals. Just absolutely terrible, never again !
This was a wonderful date night! Food was amazing, you can tell they take pride in the dishes being sent out. I especially liked the server explaining a little history about the restaurant, it made me really appreciate the owners passion for good food and being involved with his daughters. (One of the daughters was working that evening.Having daughters myself and loving food, I have an A+ for that!
This place is about as filthy as any Ive ever come across. Its amazing theyre even still open. I only come for the fried rice which is outstanding. the owners always have an attitude towards me and I hate it. But hey when Im craving really good fried rice I know where to go
Had the fried chicken and it was delicious. We often choose the wrong restaurant and leave disappointed and a lot poorer but this time was different. Prices are great, food was great and service was good. Left this restaurant very pleased. Tried Janes Black Swan Cafe after reading the reviews, especially for their fried chicken. The reviews were right.
Another great example of a small, hole in the wall restaurant with great service, delicious food and very healthy portions. Consider the family meals instead of just individual entrees, as just about everything one could want is available and the share - size portions appear to be even larger.
Fave in pueblo has been all my life love all the staff!
Good food. Good service. Fast and friendly! Interesting combination of great Chinese food plus some of the best Fried Chicken I have had. Looks can be deceiving! Give it a try.
Check out the fried chicken here. Even tho one time I called in my order and they told me 20 minutes. 20 minutes after placing the order they gave my chicken away to the person in front of me to which I had to wait an extra 20 minutes but other than that for an Asian restaurant they make some good fried chicken
This place has great service in servers are always kind and friendly the food is always good really like everything about it though the time for certain dishes is a little annoying for the most part I really loved it
I usually love their fried chicken, but sat down with a friend to have him try out there food for the first time. Friend chicken had a rubber feel to it, which indicates it was old, and it was also undercooked. Gravy on mashed potatoes had weird taste, and looked like it has been sitting out for a while. Friends lemonade had dry carbonated soda left over in it, and hamburger was overcooked. Aswell friends eqq drop soup, had a chicken broth taste to it, and his chinese food didnt look too pleasing. Waiter was very nice, but unfortunately the best thing out of all of this was the almost expired lays chips.
If you care about your health and well being, Do NOT eat here. Burnt dry rice, egg drop soup was goopy and over viscous. Luckily I noticed my drinking glass had carmelizes soda inside it from previous use before I drank. My friends chicken was pink and undercooked. Seemed to be fried from frozen. Nothing was fresh or tasteful. Over priced. Should apply to be on Chef Gordon Ramsey’s Show, kitchen nightmares.
First visit for dinner this evening. My wife and I enjoyed good service in this simple, unpretentious atmosphere. We both enjoyed the 5 piece fried chicken dinner; enough food that we took a couple pieces of chicken home to enjoy later. Chicken was fresh and well prepared; fried much like I remember from my Mom’s home cooking (not greasy or spicy). We’ll be back!
Pros: Food was good and our waiter was very friendly. Cons: they are not vegetarian friendly and all their sauce has chicken powder in it. Asked the owner if she could make It without and she said no. Also, place was dirty. Booths and carpet needed cleaning.
Egg foo young and hot and sour soup is awesome....staff is super friendly. This os now my spot to go. Caution....dont park onside of the building ciz u will get towed....
I loved the atmosphere. The people were friendly and I was worried it would be "dirty" because of other reviews about it being not so clean. It was very clean, even in the bathroom (says alot). The food was good but it didnt have any distinct flavor (I had beef lo-mainbut the wantons were really good. I could definitely see myself going back. Whoever goes to a restaurant and feels that an outdated atmosphere kills the flavor of the food is the kinda person who thinks the best burgers come from McDonalds because their lobby is trendy
Score for the tastyfried chicken. 2 stars for the atmosphere and cleanliness. Very dated, which is ok, because thats why I returned in the first place. Recapturing the old days. Went when I was younger. Late 60s early 70s. Looks the same! Really, the same......hmmm.
Food and service are good. The soup and salad are minimal but at least something until dinner. Main dishes are good. I had the beef curry which had a lot of vegetable and was just what I was looking for. Oh and the fried shrimp are yummy and a good deal. I hear fried chicken is very good to but havent had it yet. Restaurant has a diner feel and if you like kitchiness here is your place. Great wait staff.
Odd feeling from owner and cook. Food was okay, cooked too long. Breading on chicken fried steak fell apart. Waiter is always polite and helpful.
Food was disgusting. Rice tasted burned, eggdrop soup was gross, sweet & sour tasted weird, sweet & soft pork coating was mushy on the inside as if not properly cooked. Took beef & broccoli home & it had already spoiled by the next morning, I could smell it with the fridge for closed 🤮. When asked if won ton had real or imitation crab, staff didnt know & after telling them im allergic they said "we THINK its imitation". I need to know for sure... not a guess....Egg rolls were good though. My dad was VERY unhappy to & we will NOT be eating there again
This place for me was kind of one of those hole in the wall type places I never knew existed, but Im glad i do now. For a place known for their fried chicken, they actually have really good chinese food. My favorite being the Mongolian beef. The chicken fried steak is also very good, legit steak breaded and fried, none of that compressed frozen meat stuff. Will definitely return.
We enjoyed both the fried chicken and the combination plate, server was polite and service was pretty quick. However we will probably do carry out from now on because the dining area needs cleaning...especially the tabletop napkins and seasoning bottles yikes
This THE best for fried chickenWe enjoy the Chinese cuisine as well. Then there are the waiters and waitress . Kenny is very personable and makes you feel welcome. A great place to eat period.
Fried chicken is amazing. Cant wait to go back & try the egg fu yung. The waiter was awesome...ran his butt off but still had time to be friendly & personable to everyone.
The Black Swan is a Pueblo staple and absolutely delicious if you want American or Chinese food. Seriously good eats and great service!1/4/18Adding to my first review...seriously love the new remodel and the food and service was still better than ever!
The best friend chicken in Pueblo. For casual dining with friends or business meeting. The food is very good, if you dont order the chicken. Lol. Good street parking.
Although the floor was dirty and the seats could have used a little attention, the food was fresh, hot and tasty. the mushrooms were wonderfully fresh in the hot and sour soup. the egg rolls were fresh, crispy and delicious. The broccoli beef was also very tasty. I have been looking for a good chinese place and so far this is top of the list.
Great Chinese food, amazing chicken. Staff is always friendly and fast. Very reasonable prices also.
A family favorite for over 30 years. Best Wontons ever! I have many favorites, including the Fried Chicken and Shrimp with Garlic Sauce.
The Black Swan is very overrated. The food was poor quality and customer service was terrible. Our waiter was rude and rushed us to order and then tried to get rid of us as soon as possible. 2/10 would not return or recommend.
I have been a customer of the Black Swan for years. Took two people to lunch there and they will now be comparing other Chinese food to Janes! Delicious and some left for later snacking.
Took my mother there a couple weeks ago for the first time ever and now shes always asking when were going back! We love their food and the customer service is awesome!
The owner is unprofessional. She yelled at her waitress and cook the whole time we were there and she gave us poor service. The waitress came and apologized to us and made things worse for herself. The whole experience was so awkward and uncomfortable. Food and restaurant deserves no star.
