Jalao in Monte Plata
Description
Privilege
Beautiful place with delicious food and drinks!! Lets not forget good music we had so much fun and the service was really GOOD!! We will be back soon!!
MoreA very nice club style restaurant. Perfect food, perfect entertainment. Unfortunately the staff is sometimes not very attentive.
MoreGreat house band and good DJ. Lots of dancing in the small space available. The music is loud and good. Everyone had a good time and there were of number of groups celebrating events or birthdays.
MoreMy friend who lives in dominican mention3d that the food wasnt what she expected. The DJ was not the best either. Good prices and awesome facilities
MoreFood was good, service was good, cool interior. The restaurant doesn’t get busy until after 9PM so if you’re looking for music or a fuller/busy space I would go later in the evening.
MoreTraditional Dominican food, prices within range, good typical Dominican atmosphere. It is a good option to get out of the routine.
MoreGreat good, great music. Clean and every attempting the waiters. Really goog place to expend time with family.
MoreFood and drinks are amazing, live music on Wednesday, very good overall 👌
We enjoyed a delicious salpicón de mariscos, croquetas de pollo, y revoltini de berenjena. All were well prepared and tasty with excelente service from Andres. It was a late lunch/early supper at 5.
MoreThe food was great! I had a grilled snapper on top of yucca and she had rabo incendido. My fishlet was perfect! The sangria was turbo-charged, I think it was rum-fortified. There was A/C inside but it was super-loud, outside it was wicked hot and humid ( duh- August), but still great to eat al-fresco sitting next to the park people-watching on a Wednesday evening. By 10 it was very pleasant to walk around. Great food, service, choice of venue. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. I will go back.
MoreFood was amazing. The service was amazing. Honestly we all get different menu items and they were all equally delicious. They offer live music with really good performers. You must try if in Santo Domingo. My favorite was the Rabo/Oxtail! Highly recommended.
MoreNice place, very good party. You must be careful with the bill because they charge you for drinks that you did not order.
MoreReally bad attention of 1 waiter, live music excellent 👌
Live music and atmosphere was great. Enjoyed Delicious Food as a sampling of Dominican flavors.. enjoyed the experience
MoreFood was great. I ordered “La Lasagna de la abuela” and it was so delicious. I loved the environment and vibes. The place is fantastic. The lady that served us was very friendly and polite. It has a really nice spot to take beautiful pictures.
MoreFood and drinks were good. 200 Dominican peso fee for the entertainment. Band played great music. People are also able to dance.
MoreConsistently good food over the last 10 years. Good atmosphere, good service, great location.
MoreGreat Restaurant! Great food for good prices. In addition, if you come the right night to get provided to a great live band.
MoreI wish I can give it more ⭐️s! Very nice and elegant restaurant, the best unique drinks and the food is delicious. The entertainment is fun and inviting, I have a good time every time I come here. Try the Mamajuana shots!
MoreVery nice ambiance, food, people and vibes. We drank, ate, sang and danced all night long. Its a must visit when in SD.
MoreThis is the second time going to Jalao. Jalao is a good place to take foreigners and Dominicans that have been away for a long time, and want the whole Dominican experience. The service was good, and the entertainment was excellent. Great location.I recommend the mojitos if you are drinking cocktails there. The food was okay, I have no complains.
MoreGood restaurant in the heart of the colonial zone on Santo Domingo, just in front of the 1st cathedral in the new world. You can find excellent typical dishes and great music.
More(ALERT: THE FINAL PRICE IS 30% MORE EXPENSIVE THAN IN THE MENU, DUE TO TAXES THAT ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE MENUThe place is nice, waiters are very nice too, but the food is overpriced and not good. We asked cassava croquete with cheese as an entrée, it was good, but the main dish (gnocchi and eggplant gratinwere really bad... They served it almost cold, as it was waiting to be served for long... And the prices really do not correspond to the quality of the food. We couldnt stay to watch the band, maybe the music was worth... For eating I do not recommend this place, seems to be another tourist trap.
MoreGreat vibe! Awesome location right in front of Parque Colon and the Cathedral. Drinks are good and tasty. Chill atmosphere. Felt welcomed and service was good enough. Great place to people watch or just enjoy a conversation. Kid friendly with the outdoor seating. Take a peak inside their beautiful indoors. Live music at 9pm they told us. Maybe we will come back later!
MoreNeed to come back for the dancing at night, but we went here for lunch and it was pretty good food. I really enjoy my whole fried fish (Pescado Frito Al Estilo Boca Chicaand my friend really enjoyed the mofongo.
MoreI do not know where to start, since an experience such as this one has never happened to us. So here we go. My wife and I decided to go to Zona Colonial. We have been in the country for a couple of days and wanted to return to this place since we have been here in the past. We sat down near the statue located at the center of the plaza, in front of the cathedral. After approximately 15 or 20 minutes of seeing people walk by and taking some pictures, we decided to head to the entrance, since we saw that enough people had left the restaurant and probably wouldnt be as busy (today was mothers day in the DR). So I walked by the front chairs and reached the main door, a young lady at the door (most likely the hostdidnt say anything, so I proceeded to ask for a table in Spanish. Here is the kicker: today was a hot day; I decided to wear jeans and a t-shirt; and my wife had a nice red blouse with long sleeve, blue jeans, and convers. The young lady proceeded to look up and down and immediately said that they were "full". I dont know about you guys, but in the US when a restaurant is full and you dont need a reservation, they usually ask if you want to wait and tell you more or less how long it will take. This young lady didnt say anything. We said "ok" and decided to leave. I saw another couple entering the building as we made our way out. The lady was wearing a dress and the guy had a dress shirt. They got in, so I guess it wasnt full for them. We literally felt completely profiled for some reason. I didnt say anything to my wife right away, since I thought maybe I noticed something that wasnt there. But my wife simply said, "I think we were profiled." I replied, "did you notice the same thing?" She returned, "yeap". I could have asked to speak with the manager, but I have class and simply dont bring my money where we are not welcomed.I have never been though something like this. I wasnt expecting this in the DR, where the majority is mixed and wear all type of clothing. Once again, we have been here in the past, but at that time I guess we had something "nicer" on. I guess we will never return to this place and would not recommend it to anyone. We ended up going to a place that looked wayyyy fancier few steps down the same street. It is called Buche Perico. It was expensive (2,000 pesos per person), but way nicer. Anyways: just be careful with what you wear depending on the color of your skin.
MoreThe Rabo encendió was delicious, the chickpeas with rice and tostones were perfect combo. Definitely recommend ordering this plate if your ever here.
MoreThis place is obnoxious. Expect a huge, bright LED screen with music videos and large groups. The service felt rushed: the waiter left halfway our conversation and before I could get his attention to correct my order, I was already served. Table cleared the second I put down my knife. The food was mixed. Skirt steak was actually seasoned incredibly well, although it was a bit on the small side for the price. However, it was overcooked and not given a second of resting time. Tostones were simply not good: again overcooked and mushy. The plate was nothing more than that: a steak and 8 slices of tostones, rather poor for 1500 DOP
MoreGreat food, service and atmosphere!
Very traditional and yummy food! It’s also in the square so plenty of people and buzz around!
MoreWhat a experience..must try while visiting Zona Colonial DR.Exelente el lugar, comida deliciosa
MoreIt is a very good restaurant, I went 3 years ago and I will return every time I go to the DR because I love it very pleasant, the food is very tasty, you have a great time very happy.
MoreI came here because of the reviews. I tried the sancocho. It was good. The meat is tender and the soup is full of the meat flavor. It comes with rice and avocado and they are good too. I tried the drink saltacocote. It’s ok. I can only taste the coconut flavor. But it’s strong and I can only finish half of it. They have indoor and outdoor seating. People like to sit outside more. But inside they have AC and music.
MoreHad an absolutely incredible dining experience here. Came with a party of 4 on a busy Saturday night. We didn’t have a reservation, but we were seated very quickly. The energy and the vibrance of the restaurant was incredible that night. There was a live band playing that had many people up cheering and dancing in the aisles and from their seats. The food and drink service was excellent. We were served all of our food and drinks very quickly. Everything tasted excellent and made to our liking. I felt like I got such an incredible value for what we got in terms of food, drinks, and the overall experience. Felt like I could’ve been charged way more for what the total experience was. I highly recommend a visit to this restaurant during your next trip to Zona Colonial!
MoreJalao is a fun lively resturaunt with a stage and live music. Theres also a dance floor and plenty of room around the tables to dance throughout the evening. I had the Pescadito(Fishand it was really good. The service was great people are constantly checking on you. And if you want peace and quiet or to smoke there is outside seating as well. Street parking was tight because you are in Zona de Colonial which is crowded but there is a parking garage if youre willing to walk about 5 blocks.
MoreGreat food and friendly service. We followed servers advise and had ox tail stew and 7 meats stew. Both were delicious. Fried calamari and eggplant appetizers were very good as well. Inside you LL find fun atmosphere and live music on the big stage. I would give it 5 stars but one thing was very unpleasant. The music playing outside is very loud and its mixed with loud music from the restaurant next door which creates quite a cacophony. Except us a few other tables complained about it. Other than that (which is easy to fixgreat all around.
MoreGood atmosphere. All was tasty, apart from the fried Yuca that was dry and tasteless.
MoreWe had a great time at this restaurant. Live music was really good. You must try Costillitas nonas 🤩
MoreHad an amazing experience here. Very Dominican themed which I loved! Drinks are very creative and good, food is a little overpriced but original and delicious, and the staff were super nice!
MoreThe entertainment (Live Bandwas great The drinks were also good but the food was not maybe it was late, but we had 5 different meals and none were good.My wife got very sick.I think since it was last call for the kitchen the food was not fresh.
MoreReally nice sancocho. Highly recommended. One of the first stop for cruise ships. Nice large center. Huge umbrellas. A joy.
MoreAn amazing atmospheric place filled with Dominican charm and novedades. This is a place where modern and typical Dominican culture meet. I am.beyond enamored with this place. I enjoyed the food, the drinks, the people. We were lucky that day that a musician group went to play and for a small cover we were able to enjoy the ambience. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!
MoreVery nice venue! The scenery is also very Dominican, the food, the music also very good.Service is the bad part! The staff was just very vague and careless.
MoreAll around great entertainment in Santo Domingo. Great cocktails (the Saltacocote is a must-havefood is fresh and very tasty (do not miss out on the calamari, thr chicharonnes or the pabellòn). Everything is served quickly even on crowded nights. Whether for a drink, food or some dancing you cannot go wrong with Jalao.
MoreExcellent service by all, the front host that welcomes you. The waiting staff is on point and great at removing items from the dinning table as soon as you are done with it. I forgot to ask for a side order and once my main course arrived I asked for it and it was at my table within less than 3 minutes, for which I was grateful. The food was delicious and it was our first real meal and not fast food after arriving on the island of the Dominican Republic. The entertainment was simple but good it was music videos on the screen. There was no live music tonight but it is a Sunday night.
MoreI good place medium priced and the quality matches the price. Spacious beautiful facility. I enjoyed a nice meal and extended cocktail session here.
MoreA great local Dominican restaurant in the heart of the colonial district of Santo Domingo. Live music on Thursdays. Excellent typical Dominican food. Good music and dancing.
MoreLocated in Zona Colonial, Jalao is a beautiful place with live Dominican music and awesome energy.Succulent local flavors. We ordered several appetizers. Highlights were the Ceviche Morir Soñando, and Chicharrones del Mar.They need to work on service & getting to know the menu.At night there is a 200 pesos cover per person, but the live music and tasty food are worth it.
MoreI just added this place to one of my fav restaurants in the DR, the place has really good music, they play live music on Fridays, you can feel the Dominican style flowing around. It is not cheap but worthy. (:
MoreLove the place! Is a fancy traditional Dominican restaurant with great decorations and live music. The location cannot be better: just in front of the first Cathedral in America...A must for tourists and dominicans as well!
