Gourmet burgers, share plates and craft beer in a warm, dimly lit tavern with sandstone walls.
Jack Greene Bar in Hobart
Description
Happy hour and live music on Friday arvo! Good choice of beer. Efficient staff
We waited for two burgers for 2 hours! We were hungry and could not wait any longer. Finally, I canceled the order, got my money back and was told- sorry.
MoreFriendly, helpful staff. Excellent food and drinks. Good live music.
One of my favourite bars in Hobart. Great selection of food and drinks
Half price pints grabbed me, great bar serving good food nice friendly staff. Very busy during HH
MoreCame for Sunday lunch with my son. The burgers were absolutely delicious. We got a Southern fried chicken burger and a maple bacon and beef burger and tried half of each 👍🏽Both were fresh, very tasty and cooked perfectly. We got a side of sweet potato fries, my son declared they were the tastiest fries ever!I wouldnt pay $18 for the burgers, so half price Sunday is a great chance to work our way through the menu. It would be nice to know whats included in half price burgers, the lady serving wasnt sure and said she could tell me if the burgers I wanted were included as I ordered them. Usually T&C are clearly displayed somewhere but they werent :)The only suggestion I have is to have some different table options. Sitting up on a round bar table was not the comfiest. I would have liked somewhere a little quieter with a regular height table :Im not sure what was upstairs as we booked and were seated at a table.
MoreBurgers and chips were awesome. The live music was great.
Reasonable burgers but slow service and everything and once. Also very cold downstairs
MoreSweet potato chips are to die for (big servingsand the burgers are a little on the pricey side (especially for veggie burgersbut are delicious. A good range drinks and there are heaters in the outdoor area. My only criticism is that the service was very slow. It wasnt busy at all but I spent five minutes standing at the bar waiting, then gave up and ordered from the QR code on the table and it still took 15+ minutes for our drinks to come.
MoreHalf price burgers on Sunday!!! Omg thick cut chips and aoli so good!
Good atmosphere and nice food (try the Jacks popcorn chicken).
My partner and I made our way down to Salamanca Place after a boozy late lunch at The Chowk and a quick stop at The Whaler for a game of pool.We just beat the dinner rush and snagged a table in the warm interior next to the bar, where they had a variety of dark beers as part of Dark Mofo. Im not a huge fan of dark beers, but the Penut Butter Porter was really interesting. We grabbed a bowl of tempura broccoli which was fairly average, but what really blew us away was the six types of sliders that we sampled for dinner. The salmon wasnt quite to our taste and I found the hallumi a little bland (possibly because I removed the tomato though). The cheeseburger was as good as youd expect of a classic and the spiced pulled pork really hit the spot.I found it exceedingly difficult to pick my favourite out of the braised beef with delectable crunchy slaw and the perfectly cooked eye fillet mignon with balsamic onion jam, as both of these were absolutely gorgeous to taste.Would recommend stopping in at Jack Greene to try all six yourself if youre around Salamanca Place.
MoreGreat ambience & music, good selection and variety of beers and spirits, 50% special of gins and whiskey is worth it, food was mediocre (some hot, some coldbut bar people very helpful. No downstairs bathrooms & it gets cold towards end of the night (winter).
MoreGreat craft beer available. Cool vibe. Live music, really enjoyed hanging out here during our stay in Hobart
MoreAwesome atmosphere, a great place to sit and people watch outside under the heaters and the staff are very knowledgeable
MoreVery good happy hour cocktails. Pizza was nice. It is very crowded and noisy often, and because of that it can be a long wait for a drink.
MoreBest happy hour in Hobart. Great craft beers on tap all half price. Food is yummy too. Had the fried broccoli and is a unique but pleasant experience.
MoreA crazy after dinner drink or two
Do not go here. Service super slow. Friend had a regular cheese burger - it was a carelessly slapped together bun with patty and half melted cheese. Clearly zero interest in food prep or presentation...
MoreMashed a Wallaby Burger. Was so good!
Dropped in while in Hobart from South Australia. Half price burgers on a Sunday pulled us in for lunch, and they were pretty good! Wine list concise but very good. Minor confusion when we were presented at our table with take-away instead of dine in, and once that was resolved the burgers were not very hot unfortunately.Otherwise recommended.
MoreMessed up an order and delayed another one...BUT... I got a full refund on both without asking. People make mistakes however quality of food was great. 5 stars in my books.
MoreI really enjoyed the live entertainment and also a pulled pork burger which was fantastic. Staff was nice and my only grievance was the limited selection of meals but what they do offer is really good quality.
MorePretty good local bar with music at salamanca place.
Friday happy 2 hrs great value across all craft beers on tap and $10 cocktails. Gets very busy. Food option to match go down well.Fun vibe in the Salamanca strip.
MoreQuick service, good menu range, quality ingredients, tasty burgers and sides. Recommend the sweet potato chips.
MoreExtremely great service, really delicious food and located well in Salamanca! The burgers are really good and so are the thick cut chips! We will be returning here as a big group again for some more burgers and beers! Thanks team at Jack Greene Bar for a great night out!
MoreFood and drinks are good. We were celebrating a friends birthday, staff in general is kind, nice and helpful, but when we were outside in the tables, some guys were being racist and rude towards us, they wanted our table which we had reserved and didnt ask kind for it, we would share it if they were kind but they just sat there and started being rude.... and the guy at the door didnt manage well, even when we explain and he saw what was happening.
MoreCool interior with a really good range of well priced craft beers on tap. One of very few pubs I’ve found that plays AFL live. Seemed a tad understaffed at the time so the waiting times for drinks was a little slow. Will definitely return.
MoreI ordered some beers and a burger.Firstly there is an amazing selection of draft beers.I have to come back to try the others.I had the XIPA and an amazing Stout .The bar service was amazing. The staff without exception are friendly and knowledgeable .When I couldnt decide which beer to have without me asking they gave me some to try.I ordered a burger which was absolutely delicious. The bun was toastedThe beef patty was meaty and cooked perfectly.I was most impressed how the staff ran the place so well without supervision.
MoreYummy Burgers! Only reason giving 4 stars instead of 5 stars because went in for the $20 burger & lager deal but when I went to order, you could only have cascade.
MoreGood beers on tap and in cans. Great location. Good friendly staff. Check out half price tinnies Thursday. Cheers
MoreFood was great! Delicious hamburgers, and calamari! Music was too loud for early evening! Couldnt even talk to the person next to me! Later maybe, but not at 6.30 when you just want to enjoy a meal and catch up! Happy hour cocktails 5-7☺️
MoreLoved the decor and atmosphere, especially on Thursday afternoons.
Went here on Sunday for lunch with my Son. Half price burgers, beautiful. The place had a great feel inside and out. Very relaxing. Burgers were super tasty washed down with a pint of cascade pale ale (not my son he had water).
MoreA great selection of beer on tap and bottles. Friendly wait staff and perfectly situated on salamanca.
MoreApologies for the poor shot - I was starving and far too lazy to mess with my phones settings or positioning.I got the Southern Fried Chicken burger and added a beef patty with cheese, and wouldve paid somewhere around $23 for it had it not been half-price Sunday (the beef patty was an extra $5 which is fairly standard).Im a burger guy and have eaten at dozens of places around. Melbourne, and I can safely say this burg would keep up with a lot of our joints. Though it was a little weird that the chicken was in fact chicken tenders rather than a piece of breast, the poultry was cooked as perfectly as the beef and bacon were and the cheese was plentiful and delicious; same goes with the sauce. My only gripe was that the burger was a little small at $23, but based on its location I cant fault the place too much.
MoreI wish I had the same experience as the other people who have reviewed this place.I asked for anchovies in my Caesar salad... got none. This $19 salad is cheap but still not worth it. Our meals came out 10 minutes apart and the water jug had months of grime build up .
MoreFood was solid, and a decent beer selection. A bit pricey, but you can eat a wallaby burger! 😋
MoreOne of the best places for beer in the area. Good draft list with local and foreign beers. Gourmet burgers is the way to go. Had the classic beef- which was pretty basic. The fries (chipsare amazing! Also had the steak burger which had the most amazing flavor and great quality; however I could not bite pieces of it off as it was too tough to bite into. This changed my experience. Sitting outside seemed nicer, but they do have a restroom/toilet upstairs. The guys working there were super friendly and relatable. I also recommend the Moo IPA from Tasmania. Cheers!
MoreTop notch beer selection and good food. Friendly staff that make you feel at home. Have the Wallaby burger, it may sound like a tourist trap but its actually delicious. The popcorn chicken and burger were great too. Would likely be my local if I lived in Hobart. Great place.
MoreNice bar and excellent food. Lots of people on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon with live music. Hamburgers are half price on Sunday. Staff are happy and friendly.
MoreNice staff. Great beer selection and food was comforting. Upstairs seating area is AMAZING.
MorePretty good here. Buns were cold and fell apart too easily. The whole meal was really nice and I would return there for more burgars. The Coke was a little watered down but was a nice accompaniment with the meal. Nice company came along with me and also liked the meal!
MoreComfortable resting bar with good tasting paddle you can choose by yourself. Nice staff introduce different Tassie beer to us.
MoreGreat spot for a burger and sides. The food was very good. Though, there was a one-hour wait on food, despite not being too busy. The beers are mostly industrial CUB. Independents are limited to cans and were all over twelve bucks.
MoreGreat atmosphere, good burgers, super delicious chips and its open until late! There was a guy performing live with acoustic guitar, singing all the crowd pleaser tunes. Hes pretty good. Awesome vibes.
MoreThe best burgers and sliders in Hobart! Also a terrific selection of local craft beers. You can do a tasting, then pick a fave to have with your meal. Be warned it can get busy at peak hours, but off-hours we recommend it highly. In fact, this will be our first stop on any return trip to Hobart.
MoreIf you want a friendly and interesting place to grab a meal or a drink or just relax this place is perfect, has two rooms ground level and upstairs both these have bars and different atmospheres . They also cook later then most places around and have great food to and heaps of beer on tap lots of local too.
MoreWith my latest escapade to Hobart, there was nothing better than topping off a day of exploring with a good restaurant for a burger. I know that the Salamanca Markets are renowned for their seafood, but seafood allergy in another state is hardly a thing to scoff at.And hey, if you can do burgers right, then you can win my heart, Hobart. The gauntlet was thrown down to Jack Greene.Set right in the heart of the Salamanca Markets, this is one place that you literally couldn’t afford to go past. The aromatic smells of all the quaint pubs automatically pull you in. Jack Greene is a multi-level pub with the bottom more like a bar and the upstairs a cozy gathering surrounded by books on one side, a lodging feature on the other and finally a picturesque view of the bay.I chose the peri-peri chicken with a side order of Tassie wine (unfortunately I couldn’t find the name and didn’t write it down…must mean I need to go back and re-visit, right?)First of all, those chips were heavenly. The crunch in your mouth and the hard coated exterior with the soft warm interior. Oh, you know how to win a man’s heart, Tassie. Then the peri-peri chicken. Wow. The bacon. The melted cheese all drizzled in peri-peri heaven. I was in love, from the first bite to the last. This one burger was good with the only flaw being that it wasn’t big enough to fill my man-sized hunger. I would recommend it hands down! What more can I say? This was one amazing trip and Jack Greene really capped off the event. Go for the views, stay for the food – you won’t be disappointed.
