Jack's Family Restaurant ~ Peterborough - Fish & chips shop in Peterborough, Canada
Great 🥑 cucumber lettuce boiled egg on rye ..... best
I finally stopped by Jacks in Peterborough. Ive been to the Norwood location where the food is fantastic. I was really impressed not only was it clean but the staff were courteous friendly and eager to serve. I had the Halibut fish & chips and it was hot fresh, light and crispy. Take it from a lover of Halibut you will not be disappointed. I will definitely go back soon! If you can, get your vaccine and lets protect each other!!! 🇨🇦🍁
Great fish and chips! Waitress was also really nice and welcoming. Would highly recommend!
Food was good, service was excellent, welcoming atmosphere...They need new tablecloths as the table I was at had holes and cracks in the tablecloth due to agePatio was not open during potentially the last nice day of the year before winter
Oh its very good, decent prices,Great environment, nice servers,Best is eggs Benedict.
Friendly staff. Great selection. Food was good, and the prices were excellent.
. Nearly every Friday morning I leave Port Hope and go to Jacks for breakfast. Best western sandwich anywhere. Their onion rings are out of this world. Service is superb, friendly and waitresses are super. Prices are reasonable. I recommend this restaurant for any meal
Went for the Wednesday chicken special. Food and portions were good and staff were very friendly and accomodating. Also the butter tarts are delicious!!
good price for portion, kids meal is very nice and price right.
Friendly service.Warm and pleasant environment.Definitely a great place to get your fish & chips.Had the haddock fish & chips and hot hamburger, coleslaw, seafood chowder soup.Fish & chips was well portioned, hot, crisp, light, fluffy. Fries and coleslaw was nice too.Hot hamburger comes on a garlic bread with beef patties, onion, mushroom, topped with gravy. The patties a bit dry, gravy was quite good and will be great if on a poutine. Better to order a normal hamburger instead. The chowder soup was passable, give it a miss.
Worst garlic scallops I’ve ever had. Would never try this restaurant again. The liquid was blue in colour. Ordered through Y-Drive Peterborough Total waste of money, don’t recommend this restaurant
Food was great, service was excellent. Well be back!
I have to say, the customer service here from management is great. We had a disappointing take-out experience, cold food and a couple missing items, on a busy night for the restaurant. But we made a point of reaching out to the restaurant to discuss it and share what had happened, knowing that these things happen sometimes. Management was swift to provide a solution and ensure we were happy with the end result. We are looking forward to our next experience. Thank you to the fantastic customer service from Julie at Jacks Restaurant!
Everyone was very friendly. They are understaffed and do the very best they can. The food was excellent so just be patient and you will love your dinner!
Its been a long time since Ive enjoyed a meal so much! Food was great!! It was busy (lunch rushbut our drinks were refilled when needed, and we all enjoyed our meals.
Friendly service. Decent food, somewhat small menu, but its pretty clear its primiarly a fish and chips kinda place. Prices were reasonable, but service was a little slow at the lunch rush.Inside had a classic 80s feel. Everything seemed clean.
Found the place just by looking online for options in Peterborough. The all you can eat special on Tuesdays intrigued us.My son asked that we out a 5 star review. He can be picky and was raving about the mashed potatoes and he also tried a bit of the fish and chips.I believe everything is made fresh and from scratch. Everything came piping hot. Wish we could have utilized the nice patio, but it just finished raining when we got there.Service can be slow at times, but we were also trying to make a movie. Will come back as the family wishes.
We enjoyed the actual seafood chowder, fresh chef salad, fish and homemade chips.
Service very good in morningSeafood chowder not as good as before pandemicAlways great serviceBreakfast was 4 stars
We have been here every time we visit. Peterborough. It’s always a good time. The menu is diverse and the drinks are cold. There’s a good view of the lake and boats. Staff always inviting and nice!
We found it ok lakefeild onion tings were better hubby had all day breakfast eggs wete cool home fries not cooked enough not great i had the jacks burger was ok baton was burnt and burger was a little scorched service was ok started off good but by end of meal not so good. We would still go back just order different food
So good! Chicken Caesar Wrap was delicious, and my hubby loved the fish n chips...
Home fries not cooked. Another order sausage cold. No refills for coffee.
Took my Dad there for dinner 20 minutes before closing. They were nice enough to seat us, where we had their famous fish and chips. The food, service and price were all excellent. I highly recommend Jacks Family Restaurant for their Fish and Chips. 👍👍
Biggest rip-off going...always ordered the same thing....4pcs and fries and it was always in the forty dollar range.......today it was $74.00 and their excuse for the excessive increase was covid....never see me there again. This is a restaurant that is taking advantage of the times.....UGH....bought this same order last fall and it was in the original dollar range of low to mid $40s
Came here between basketball games during a tournament and I was thoroughly impressed. The portions were quite large and the price was right. I had the pulled pork quesadilla and it was nothing short of delectable. I doubt I find myself in the area again but if I do I’ll come back here. As far as sides go I’d say get the beans.
Amazing place with amazing staff. One of the best service and Cafe ladies Trent has is blessed to work here. Check it out, you wont be disappointed
Great service, but fish is pretty average. Chips were kinda soggy and would have used a double fry for better crispiness.
Really lovely place to stop by on a roadtrip. Staff are very nice and very accomodating. The fish and chips come out hot and fresh and the portions are very generous. Absolutely delicious food for excellent prices. Definitely would stop by again.
Was impressed with how all our fish entrees were perfectly cooked and hot when they arrived to our table. Very pleased with the wild salmon Ceasar salad and fish sticks. Great patio space and friendly service too.
The food here is very good, its my favorite place in Peterborough. We meet family here often when we are in the area . Their portions are good, service is excellent as is their food. The prices of their seniors meal is so low. Way to go Jacks.
My husband, grandmother and I showed up to Jacks for lunch after a busy day on the golf course. We were met with a line and a large sign that said they were short cooks and staff that day. I appreciated the fact that the restaurant was upfront with their situation. The line did move fairly quickly as well - we waited maybe 10 mins in total before being seated. The greeter (who was also waitressing that daywas doing her absolute best to keep everyone moving during rush hour (was about 12:30pm when we arrived). The food itself was okay. To be fair, it IS a fish and chip restaurant and I ordered a chicken quesadilla. Im sure if I liked fish I would have enjoyed it - my grandma did!I would definitely go back and try something different next time Im in town.
First off, the staff are exceptional and the food is first rate. But, I paid dearly yesterday for my love of halibut: $30 for 2 pieces of fish is a bit much. I understand the economics, but is it always necessary, in these soon to be hyper-inflationary times, to pass on every extra nickel of added cost to your business to the consumer? There is indeed a point of diminishing returns. Great fish though!
We tried out this restaurant a week ago. The kids loved their generous portion of grilled cheese and fries. And since they were out of the fruit dessert, they were able to choose any of the flavoured ice cream. I ordered the chicken wrap, and partway through 1/2 of the wrap, I felt something very chewy ungiving texture. I spat it out and there was a wet paper that resembled a receipt/print out among the lettuce part of my wrap. Upon further examination of the lettuce part of my wrap, I pulled out the remaining piece of the receipt paper. My appetite was gone by then! I spoke to the server who took it back to the kitchen. She tried very hard to make amends by offering a complimentary pie or ice-cream. She did help it end on a good note. Warning! Check your food before your eat it.
Service is okay but food is subpar at best. Not understanding the hype of this place.Vegetarian pad thai was a weird bright orange colour and was sickly sweet. It only had one piece of broccoli in it, along with some cucumbers and lettuce which belongs nowhere in a pad Thai dish.Halloumi fried cheese was good, leaning onto salty but was fine otherwise, not sure why the dipping sauces were served in plastic containers when we are dining on the patio...the plastic is just going to go straight to the landfill...Im sure for drinks and pub style food this place would be fine, but I dont think well be back.
Just went for breakfast on the patio. I was the 3rd one . Patio was empty. Waited 5 minutes before my order was taken. The 2 women that came before me got their food just after I got my order Taken. The tea was warm not a good start so had to leave that couldnt drink it. As for the sausage to be well done they werent they were also cold like everything else the potatoes were cold . Definitely wont be back.
Had Sunday brunch on the patio. Got there around 11:30 am and got a table right away. Service was great. Jacks Eggs Benedict were very tasty and my husband enjoyed his Western Omelet. Only hitch was that it took awhile to get our bill. Seems our server had gone and we were forgotten briefly. Otherwise lovely time!
This was one of our favourite restaurants, so we were quick to choose Jack’s for dinner tonight. Quality of the food was very disappointing. Burger was tasteless and dry, halibut was very dry and gross. And the fries, worst fries we have ever eaten. None of us finished our meal, disgusting. Not sure if the pandemic has played a role in this massive reduction in the quality and taste, but if the business reads this, I’d suggest you have a look at what you are serving and make some much needed improvements.
Best fish and chips on Peterborough, definitely will go back. Got the haddock and boy was it good with the tartar sauce. Please like and follow for more reviews
Our first time in Peterborough but we are quite familiar with the Lakefield location.Safety protocol ... awesome!Same for the wait staff!D and another friend K would suggest their meals were 5 star efforts.Mine was a completely different experience, unfortunately, had the festive special. The chicken was fine. The stuffing was kinda scary in appearance and even more so regarding taste. The baked potato, great in size was wasnt quite cooked enough.I enjoyed the dessert, sorry forgot the name of it. D had the salmon on the caesar salad and was more than pleased.Cant recall Ks choice of dinner but was also pleased. Wondered if it was the regular chef on this Monday night.
This is the second time I have been Jacks, but at Norwood location. Love their Rotisserie chicken and ribs, and their chicken taste so fresh cuz its not frozen it. Passed by Peterborough and I choose this again cuz I just missing. Good food in good price. Staff are friendly too. Definitely go again
Delicious meal! The seafood chowder and the special of the day (shrimp pesto pennewas especially show stopping for our family. We also appreciated the cleaning and COVID measures in place. Thanks for a great lunch!
Today on Sunday Oct. 24 ,2020. 3 of us dined for an early supper. We found our fish portions of halibut very small in comparison to the last time we dined here in this past summer on patio. Our fries were horrible ;mostly reheated and burnt. The halibut was dry inside. I don’t think a free piece of pie can make up for the disappointment of our dinner. I declined my free dessert. I won’t be returning here. 3 lost customers here.
I went yesterday for a late lunch after searching the reviews on Google. They have these to deserve the great rating:Good quality. Friendly service. Good value. The senior combo was a good size and my pan fried perch was excellent. The onion ring is a must try. Its the best i have ever had.Julia and Mag were always helpful and cheerful when serving us.
Delicious, fresh fish and a pleasant ambiance are hallmarks of this chain location. The haddock and catch of the day are well-prepared and the portions sizes are very good for the price. Both dine-in and takeout are available with ample seating inside, and the staff are very friendly and happy to assist! Definitely worth stopping by if youre in town!
The fish and chips were freshly fried and very crispy. Great portions and price.
You wont go hungry at Jacks. Tuesday all you can eat fish and chips!
As it says, "Top quality, great service and low prices" - the Cheeseburger Poutine still my favorite, though the menu offers many more possibilities. Glad to see another location!
Love this place. Staff are friendly, food is delicious and prices are great. Large breakfast menu and nice patio too 😊
Service is good but food is very oily really. Still dont know about their high price why are they charging that much for this food 🤣🤣🤣
