J T's Drive-In in Childress
Description
Privilege
Had the Sunday special rib plate and my husband had a cheeseburger. The service was quick and friendly! Food was delicious, this is a must stop for hungry travellers. I love to try local restaurants that are not big chains of a franchise. This will be in my list of road travel favorites!
MoreDrove by this place a million times. Stopped due to the great reviews. Want to leave another 5 stars. Cheeseburgers were delicious and fries?! YUM! Very friendly staff. Will see you next time we pass through.
MoreSuper cute diner, small space - well worth the stop, or drive thru!! Their food is so good, we were amazed. We tried the brisket fries, hamburgers (they use real bacon and the patties taste so delicious), fish and chips (their tarter sauce is homemade and the best Ive ever hadand enjoyed their cute atmosphere, while driving through town. The staff is friendly and if you chose one place to eat in this town, please chose them. Theyre wonderful and you will not regret it! I wanted to make sure and leave a review because they deserve the shine!! Thanks yall, we will be back! Friends from CO!
MoreWeve been going to JTs for over 20 years. Even though ownership changed, the quality of the burgers did not.
MoreExcellent burgers. The kids had the chicken strips, which are also excellent and served with cream gravy.
MoreGreat tasting burgers at a good price. Everything was fresh. Much better than any fast food restaurant. Outdoor seating sufficient to seat large groups of people but air conditioned indoor seating was also available. Called order ahead and it was ready when we arrived so I cant speak to the speed of the service but everyone at the counter was friendly. Overall, stopping here every time I am driving through. Would readily recommend.
MoreJ.T.s is one of our familys favorite stops when driving through Childress,Texas. We have gone out of our way on trips just so we could stop in at J.T.s. the place is an old school, roadside burger joint. My favorite item on the menu is the bacon cheeseburger. This burger features a well seasoned and sizable patty. The burger is well dressed with mayo or mustard, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles. The bun is slightly toasted. This creates a juicy and flavorful burger. Add some fries and a soft drink and you will leave feeling satisfied. Thats going to run you about $12 at the moment, but this is a pretty big thick burger made from fresh beef. The stockyards are just up the street from the roadside restaurant. You can dine inside or sit at the picnic tables outdoors. Staff is friendly, and the locals line up to eat here. I believe you will enjoy the unpretentious atmosphere and the tasty food at J.T.s
MoreOK Ive been here in Childress, TX for just a few days now. Working, learning how to cope with recently learned of autism (aspergers, but its all classified as autism), enjoying time with my emotional support dog Chewie (that everyone really likes just like I do), and drawing and photographing as its important for healthy people to have healthy habits and good/fun hobbies. The pace everyone is set at here in Childress is lovely. Nobody trying to fly past or push through, just everyone seemingly ready at any given time to stop whatever they had planned, and then chat for an hour with whomever they may encounter while out and about. Its mesmerizing to me just how chill vibes and relaxed everyone here is. Walmart is like a social gathering and me and Chewie both love it when people just come up to us to chat. Were in no hurry either. 😀Me and Chewie went past JTs a few times and theres always loads of locals there. So we knew it was gonna be good. Today we stopped in finally after our daily trip to the park. Im pretty sure Chewie has me around her as her emotional support animal more so than shes there for me lol. I say this because shes requiring daily park trips, she determines where we walk on our walks, and shes very cranky with me if Ive not put her up in a room with adequate AC.OK so we stopped by JTs today and I ordered a burger, onion rings, and a large Lemonade. I recommended to the staff that they should all watch the movie Good Burger and maybe do a Good Burger night or something. I wear prescription sunglasses even when inside, if the sun is out, to help prevent Macular Degeneration from developing further, but also because like my emotional support dog Chewie, the sunglasses are a small comfort to me, simply because social cues like eye contact make me nervous since I dont understand these things like everyone else does. Seems easiest to just wear the sunglasses and then make sure to try and tell people Im not being rude (on purpose anyways). So everyone there was very very nice. Chewie got her own Burger patty, from a great staff suggestion! The lemonade was perfect to help cool down, and they provided Chewie with her own cup of water. The onion rings were perfect, the burgers were perfect, the lemonade was perfect, and absolutely everyone there was so kind, thoughtful, and helpful. We cant wait to try a steak plate or fish plate next time. But were trying out all the interesting restaurants Chewie might enjoy each day, so we dont know yet when well be back. But another large lemonade and a nice chill session on the patio out front will be on order again when we can get back.Thank you all so much for your wonderful work producing such great food. Great food is so helpful. And then everyone being nice and kind and helpful makes this JTs Burger joint our go-to Burger spot while were here. Childress is full of awesome, kind people so JTs isnt the only place with that, as every place here in Childress has those same great Childress people, but JTs does have that lemonade, burger, onion rings, and epic front patio that sets them apart from the rest in the Burger space anywhere near Childress. Cheers, James
MoreAbsolutely the best burger joint between DFW and Colorado. Burgers made any way you like it, Catfish, or mesquite smoked Brisket (smoked on-site). I won’t tell you about the off-menu Brisket Cheese Fries - That’s between me and JT…but they are LEGIT!!!
MoreStopped on a whim and we were not disappointed! The staff was friendly, the place was clean, and the food delicious!
MoreBy far the best cheese burger 🍔 around this area. Thank you guys.
We were recommended this place on our trip out to Colorado. Looks can be deceiving, but its got some great home-cooked food. Definitely check this place out.
MoreDelicious! We had chicken sandwiches, fish sandwiches, and a corn dog. All were very tasty. Clean restroom. Friendly staff.
MoreAwesome food, prices are low and the menus include the price with tax which was so convenient!
MoreDont let the appearance keep you away. Its definitely a local hole in the wall type of place. But the food is really good. They have a small 8 table dinning room. Four outside picnic tables. And a drive thru. As with many restaurants, it seems like they are trying to control prices by shrinking the portion size. An example is their brisket fries. Cost $9.50 and its so small most people could easily eat two. Although the food taste good, I must admit I probably wont return.
MoreFriendly place with very good burgers! Great place to stop if you are driving from DFW.
MoreWent here at 5:50 PM 7/06/22. Was 106 degrees outside, as we were passing through we stopped, parked in shade for our dog on side of bldg, we left ac on,car running. Server said AFTER HE TOOK OUR MONEY, wed have to move to the sunny parkinglot.I explained we had a dog and he shrugged. We got ours to go, not dog friendly so dont waste your time here. What kind of person demands you keep adog in the hot sun? Terrible.
MoreDelicious food! Friendly service. Great lunch spot.
Best burgers in town ... a must stop when visiting Childress. Greetings from Ft Worth
MoreAs always JTs Drive-in has great service and one of the best bacon cheese burgers Ive eaten in 66 years. The staff is friendly and courteous. The food is prepared quickly, is fresh, hot and perfectly seasoned. I travel from DFW area to Paducah Tx 2 or 3 times per month and always skip all other food options along to way to stop at JTs!
MoreStopped for a burger on our way out of state. Exactly what we had hoped for with a small town feel and atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The burger was tasty. Would recommend this place for those hungry and needing
MoreMy favorite kind of place! A true hole in the wall hamburger joint. They do have an extensive menu of other foods, but you know me. Got to try that burger! They did not let me down…. Starting with toasted buns and a 1/3 lbs. pattie, then complimented with good mustard and all the veggie fixings, they have as good a burger as anybody. Not crazy about the seasoned fries, but that was offset by the wonderful cup of pinto beans that a patron recommended. I believe I will stop back on the way home from Amarillo and try the good- looking basket of brisket fries.
MoreStayed in Childress on my way home and was looking forward to the steak finger basket. It did not disappoint- 4 stars because the watery thin gravy & dry toast did. Friendly staff & fair pricing.
MoreDelicious bbq!! We had the brisket and sausage!! So good!! Fries are yummy too!! Staff so nice 🙂
MoreFood was great. But the service was unfriendly nobody smiled. They lack customer service experience.
MoreBest food on our trip so far! Just passing through and so happy we stopped here. Excellent BBQ brisket and catfish. Great service. Lovely people. Dont miss it!
MoreJT’s drive thru is a small and cozy diner. They give you the option for drive thru, inside and outside dining. Staff are great and they had a wide selection for their menu- with sandwiches, baskets of fish, and so much more.I got the fish and shrimp basket (it came with catfish, shrimp, hush puppies and French fries). Honestly felt the fish/shrimp could have benefitted from a bit more seasoning, but otherwise Food was so fresh and crispy 👌🏽 oh and those hushpuppies hit different! They were full of so much flavor.
MoreDriving thru decided to give a “small mom and pop” a chance… Great food, great value, Excellent Staff!!!!
MoreFries that rival a French Restaurant I went to. Great burgers made on a grill. Wonderful coleslaw. It got very very crowded on a Sunday right after church. You should go here, now. We were on our way home to Albuquerque from Dallas and had a great meal here. My 11 year old who is super picky picky picky liked his grilled cheese and amazing fries. Amazing fries, better than McDonalds, golden brown and crispy but not brown. Wow. Magical fries.
MoreDelicious food and very fair prices. The lady who served us was so sweet, and was working hard nonstop. The whole time we were there she didnt stop moving. You can tell she really cares about her job. 🙂
MoreThis place has great hamburgers and catfish. Kids got the corn dogs and chicken tenders and they loved them. The catfish they hand bread and give you cuts of them. Tastes fresh and has good flavor. The tarter sauce is homemade as wellThey hamburger is a great local burger that is super soft.
MoreEverything was so yummy. We stopped in here coming home from our ski trip. Usually stop in Amarillo but so glad we didn’t this time. Food and service was great. Bathrooms very clean too. Highly recommend
MoreThis is the best food stop on your way through Childress! Just bypass Amarillo and head here. A perfectly cooked burger with those crispy edges and a toasted bun - and a generous helping of freshly made fries. Not super greasy, everything tasted very fresh even the lettuce on the burger. The staff was very courteous and quick - plus, it’s dog friendly! Cute outdoor seating area to hang out with your pup and enjoy their food.
MoreOld fashioned great cheeseburger. Excellent seasoned fries. Friendly service. Fast. If youre from out of town, want a good burger. You must eat here. Small place. Very clean. Good price.
MoreHoney listen HERE: I am the worlds foremost expert on southern BBQ and everything I tasted was perfectly delicious but the most impressive thing I got was the sauce! Whoever made that sauce "put their foot in it!" I could drink that BBQ sauce like a bottle of water on a boiling hot day! It was THAT good! Im glad I spotted it and decided to turn around and try it.
MoreWe had the fish and shrimp plate which includes Cole slaw (excellent beans (needed a little salt),.hush puppies. All were outstanding. They have dine in and drive thru. Prices were very reasonable. Would recommend highly.
MoreGreat burger, super friendly staff and patrons. Will definitely stop back through on our next road trip.
MoreReally good burger and fries. We were with a large group and they accommodated us very well. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meals, supposedly the hush puppies are amazing.
MoreGreat burgers, pickle fries, and hush puppies! $25 for lunch for a family of four. Great stop for a quick bite supporting a local business.
MoreWe all really enjoyed our meals at JTs Drive-In. Their BBQ brisket burger was tasty, and their onion rings were nicely fried and breaded. Their catfish was lightly fried, their fries and hushpuppies were tasty, and the tartar sauce had a good zing to it. We would definitely go again if we happen to be in the area.
MoreThe food was very good. Brisket sausage and fries very good.
Cute place with seating indoors or outdoors at picnic tables. They have good burgers, and yummy fried fish, bacon, lettuce and tomatoe sandwiches on big rolls.
MoreFood was good just to me beans and coleslaw dont go with fish thats my opinion
Stopped by on the way to Amarillo and was not disappointed at all. Generous portions and very reasonable prices. Nice waitstaff. Will go back on my next time through Childress!
MoreExcellent, 50’s style cheeseburger and exceptional French fries. Fast service and friendly staff. Great place for lunch prior to a storm chase.
MoreOne of the BEST TASTY burgers Ive had in a long time.. YUM
First time at this place today. I come through a lot for work and have never stopped to eat here before. When i do see it they have a good amount of cars outside it. Well tonight i broke down and had to try it.the burger was cooked well and just right. The bun was fresh and not hard. They did have sliced onions that i do not really care for. The fries i had were chili and cheese. They fries were cooked well and not overcooked or hard. They put a little to much cheese on the fries. The meal was warm and tasted fresh and i will come back. The staff is friendly and service was fast, they have a drive thru also.
MoreHoly moly! Bacon cheese burger had at least 2 full, thick cut strips of bacon. The pop caps were awesome. Fries dont appear to be fresh cut but theyre seasoned nicely and are delicious. Skip dq and mcds, pony up the few extra bones for actual FOOD and eat here. Seriously. Do it now!
MoreDelicious food! Nice atmosphere. We had fish(delicious!), BBQ sandwich(delicious& Cheeseburgers(delicious)! Staff was very nice. I highly recommend JT’s to everyone!
MoreReally good burger. Love the char they put in the Angus patty. The fries werent that good, probably frozen. People were very nice and service was quick. Price were very good.
