Old-school watering hole with wood floors & exposed brick walls offering American bar fare & drinks.
Ohhhh Gardelas. How low can you go! How low can you go! This place use to be a great bar/club. Sadly due to very poorly trained staff its just not worth it. I have many many great memories there really fun nights. But the las year its just been a nightmare everytime Ive gone. Nope not any more!
If youre looking for a place to waste money on drinks or just to hang out then its not bad. The food however is. It seemed as if they tried to kill my burger by cooking the life out of it. It was super dry and was the bun. I hate ranch with a passion and I ended up dunking my sandwich into ranch just to give it some kind of flavor and moisture. The cheese stuffed pretzel bites tasted like they took some cheap Walmart pretzels, pulled them out of the freezer, warmed them in the microwave and served them.
One of my favorite bars downtown. Sometimes they have the upstairs and downstairs open, each with their own bar and vibe. Cheap drinks and cheap food. Their waffle fries and gravy are the best.
$8 burger and beer sounds like a deal, right? Burger was extremely disappointing - packaged frozen beef (can tell by the shaped pattywhich was barely warm, cheese wasnt even melted, oversized dry bun......small bag of bland chips. The draft beer was pre-poured into a pitcher to dispense from and my second glass was not cold and nearly flat.Nice staff and great atmosphere though.
Cheap drinks, good food specials, good music and friendly staff. Im biased though, I worked there lol but Im not lying. Also, usually not as crowded as the rest of the downtown bars before a show at Van Andel, Intersection, or 20 Monroe
Drink choices were good. Ordered Spinach Artichoke dip. It was mediocre at best. Service was lacking. We had to ask for napkins 3 times and bill twice.
Decent food and drinks located in Boardwalk Condominiums.
Love this restaurant! Always friendly great service. We got the fish special the last time we were there, so good just the right amount of fish I couldnt eat all the fries. One of my very favorites. Check out the prices I dont know how they do it, our bill was 14.00 for 2 dinners.
Some lady harassed my group of friends for an hour before I had to ask for security to come upstairs to interfere, and then security said she was too drunk and they didn’t want to deal with her, so he kicked my group of friends off the third floor. Just doesn’t make sense to me, seems extremely lazy and senseless.
This was the place we stopped at for the Trump rally to eat, it was good food and good company we had the fish and chips. Yum! We were told secret service came by and checked every room. We went back out to find the end of the line.... which we did not see. We walked back to the Van Andel arena, with many more supporters of the President, were gathered.
Great pub food, great beer, great prices. Lunch with beverage is easily under $10. Quiet enough for conversation, located in the trendy bar district in downtown GR.
Went there on a Saturday afternoon. Place was dead but Nate our server/bartender was absolutely awesome and the food was delicious. They mostly now have a slider menu which is great if you want a snack rather than a full meal.
Atmosphere was nice. The real disappointment was the food. The amount and quality of the food did not reflect the price. Our food came out lukewarm at best, and we were shorted one of 5 ordered.
Great little bar! Karaoke upstairs was fun and the bartender on the first floor mixes great drinks. Btw, she is absolutely gorgeous! A 12 out of 10.
Very disappointed with this establishment. During my experience, the employees were under the influence and the manager was unprofessional and disrespectful. Seemed as though she was having a bad day. Being a resident of GR my whole life, it is very disappointing to witness an establishment in the heart of our growing and thriving city treat their patrons in such a manor that I plan to never visit the establishment again. I am in disbelief that such an establishment is under operation of management that appears and acts unprofessional and disrespectful. I definitely had higher expectations for this location.
J. Gardellas is now open on Sunday for brunch! This is my first time visiting the establishment and wont be the last. Everything is delicious from the mimosas, cinnamon rolls, breakfast sandwiches and more!!Ask for India. She was our fabulous waitress and bartender. Good vibes and all around sweet. The experience recieves 4 stars because there are no vegan options.
Three floors of fun! Every time ive been here, its been busy. Expect to wait a bit to be served if you go here on a weekend. Overall, the staff are normally friendly. Each floor has a slightly different vibe to it, so be sure to check them all out.
Very interesting atmosphere having multiple stories having their own bar. The downside is that it gets extremely crowded and sticky. Didnt see much security for an extremely busy night. Would try again sometime less busy.
Great food and drinks. A must stop place for ant bar crawl. Their is a downstairs that also has drinks. The crowds that come in vary in age but the people are nice.
Reasonably priced appetizers (many only $3 or $4). Descent atmosphere. My one complaint is that the music was pretty loud, so it was hear other people talking.
One of my favorites downtown! Some of the best drink specials of the area.
Nice small tavern with good beer selection along with a menu of mostly appetizers. Very well priced, most appetizers were $3. We ordered 2 craft beers and 4 appetizers and our bill was $28. I would recommend this place.
Love the building!! Felt comfortable there, nice bathrooms. AND the sliders were great!!
We were there for a private party in the basement. I couldnt believe how accommodating the bartender was with my 16 month old on a Saturday night! He was so sweet, he even brought her crayons and a coloring page!On top of that, the food that I ordered was ridiculously well priced, fresh and delicious. They also put appetizers out for the party that were equally delicious.I would recommend the salad, the tots, smack n cheese and the brussel sprouts!
Was here for lunch and the staff were incredibly friendly! We were looking for a place to camp in the middle of winter and at least three employees were helping us search for a place. The tots were a bit undercooked but the shrimp and the pork sliders were both delicious! Thank you for a wonderful afternoon
I have no idea how this bar makes money with their new menu and specials all day long every single day....from a customer standpoint this is good though. Good beer, good food, and cheap! Great place to go before a concert or a game, or just a stop on a bar hop.
Stopped in for a drink and something to eat! Ordered appetizers that took over an hour to make it to the table! No napkins, no silverware! Continued to wait for our sliders... order was not turned into the kitchen!! Service sucks!! No organization! Poorly managed!! Skip it! There are better places out there!!
Excellent place to enjoy some food and a few drinks. Typically VERY busy on a Saturday night.
The only redeeming quality was the drink specials. They only have sliders which is fine. Ours came out fast but were luke warm at best; some were still cold. Our waitress disappeared after seating us and another waitress eventually came over to see if wed been helped. Not quite what I was expecting.
Awesome new menu, featuring 2 and 3 dollar sliders , $2 fries, and $2 10 oz craft beers. One of the best values in the downtown area.
Pretty disappointed. Just left the place after waiting 45 minutes for sliders. I can get deep dish pizza in that time. thats also all they have on the menu and the beer selection is ok at best. There are better options around the region
I came to check out the new menu, the food is awesome! Definitely an upgrade and the service was great, as always. While the new slider options are delicious, the food item names are terrible! Seriously, who named these? Someones mom? Was she trying to be cool? Shes not. The names are gross and inappropriate but mostly just unoriginal. First off, "Hippie Food" is a rip-off of Stellas. Second, no one wants to order "Sweaty Balls" or "Spattered Spawn". Third, animal noises rather than meat categories, no. Just no. Gross, not cool. How about naming menu items to reflect the food? Thanks.
A decent spot in downtown Grand Rapids that actually has a lot of history as its one of the oldest bars in town. THey have some great specials during the week, but the food isnt anything to write home about. Very cool atmosphere and in a good location.
This place has so many different atmospheres its awesome! Main floor is like a normal bar, basement is a club with music and drinks, and the top floor which is my favorite is a very chill lounge reminiscent of the old speakeasys.
Great drink specials on wednesday nights! With all the drinks half-off and a pretty solid gyro for $4 after 9. It makes for a cheap and relaxing night!
Only been on weekends nights...Sticky floors, crowded, and loud. Reasonably priced beers. 3 levels with slightly different vibes, each has its own bar and restrooms which is super convenient.
Melanie was our server. She was super sweet and told us to come back after dinner. Glad we did! We just popped in for a drink while waiting for a table. Great place! Nice prices on drinks!!!
Pleasant atmosphere -- drinks good and bathrooms decent enough. The Asian chick working there (sorry -- bad with nameswas really nice and attentive, and found my lost phone, so pretty happy about that!
Noisy and busy place with impolite service. The food is good and drink specials are good but only come here if youre still the clubbing on the town type. Then, of course, its so packed during those times it takes half an hour to get another drink, which some places take care of by controlling inflow and setting up the bar area layout differently.
The establishment was nice. The bartender was great as well. The only thing I could not stand were the obnoxious people (standing behind mewho were intoxicated and kept screaming. Staff should have asked them leave. It was not pleasant
Came from So Cal back to my hometown GRR for a weekend visit with the fam. Wow, GRR is awesome. Wifey and I stopped by here and had the Chili Potato Fritters. Sort of like Southwest meets Indian fusion food. As a foodie, we can give them all thumbs up. Good selection of beers and the waitress and bartender were cool also. Recommended!
Although the food was decent and waitress started out very attemtive, it was frustrating that the waitress did nothing to "make it right" when our spinach dip Chips were stale and our homemade chips were a pile of greasy chew. " Just a bad batch." Was all we got.
Doing better now that theres a cover charge. I used to avoid this place like the plague because it seemed they only attracted the people who were kicked out of other bars for being drunk and disorderly, but ever since theyve started charging cover, it has cut down on the number of belligerent people coming in. Decent dancing, three different bars, two different bathrooms
Terrible service! Waitress came to table at 10:35 and told her we wanted to order food. We ordered right away and even asked if there was a limited menu. She said we could order anything. Some people ordered apps others sandwiches. She put the order in ans came back to tell us apps only. We changed our order to apps and she left then came back again! She said it was too late to order food and that she could only put in the others who originally orderd apps food in and that the rest of us could only order chips n salsa. I told her I was pregnant and disapointed that since she made a mistake we had to suffer the consequences. Shr was unapologetic and kept forgetting to bring me water! Very annoyed and irritated that she didnt seem to care! Will never be back!
Nice place, frequented by more of the younger crowd but welcoming to all. I recommend going on Tuesday nights for their Burger and a Pint deal. Its currently 7 bucks and the burgers are great. Not a ton of selection on tap, but it has some solid favorites. The staff is usually friendly.
Love the burger beer deal on Tuesdays! Half off drinks on Wednesdays are great too! Really wish they would upgrade to premium music streaming service though.
The place has a very cool vibe. Food is great, especially the $7 burger and beer deal on Tuesdays! Definitely get the tater tots - theyre amazing!
$4 food items and half off drinks on Wednesdays, they have a nice atmosphere and I found the food rather tasty. You can order 24oz craft beersmand they keep at least a half dozen craft on tap.
Not impressed.Visuals. Very busy on a Saturday night, thats fine. We walked to a table in the back, sat down with barely any room to sit down. The ceiling looked like there was water damage from upstairs, even a painted plywood board holding one of the lights up. Very dark where we sat, the candle on the table didnt do us justice.Service. Our waitress looked like she knew what she was doing, even down to the fact where she didnt seem to care if we had a good time or not. We werent even told what the specials were, if there were menus, we didnt see them. One of our party just turned 21 and wasnt familiar, she wont be coming back.Drinks. Beer was to standards, as was cocktails. We didnt know what the specials were so we ordered from the top of our heads.Overall. I wont be coming back to Gardellas. Its location on Ionia should be stressed more, trying to stack up against HopCat, McFaddens (sadlyand Tavern on the Square. Maybe the aesthetics are supposed to look like this, I certainly dont like it. Service isnt supposed to be like this.Bottom line. Go somewhere else.
my boyfriend and i went there for an early lunch today and it was absolutely fantastic. as a beer novice, i asked the waitress what kind of beer she would recommend and she gave me a delicious berry beer that was on tap -- very helpful. i ordered the loaded chili burger w/o jalapenos and my boyfriend ordered the gordella (i think that was the nameburger and they were both so awesome - definitely for meaty, hefty meals. the homemade chips were also awesome. super nice and helpful with a homey kind of vibe to it -- would definitely return.
