Great service, amazing food and atmosphere will definitely be going back!
Fantastic food, great vibe and affordable.
Very tastie, good food, good staff
Amazing food. Very good service. Love the style of the restaurant. Classy, trendy & modern looking.
MoreGreat Asian fusion. The food was delicious, and the service was good and quick. You have to try the fried Brussels sprouts and the horopito crumbed lamb ribs- both were very unique and extremely delicious! We also had the octopus takoyaki balls, pork gyozas, hangi-style pork ramen, Karaage chicken and chicken yakitori skewers which were all very lovely aswell.
MoreMy son shouted me to fine dining for my birthday and it surely was. Something he is used to in his travels overseas with varying restaurants. Petite sets of platters. However with the varying entrees dinners and desserts it was more than enough for both of us. It was a very special gift as I have never done fine dining before and I loved every minute of it very much. There will be a next time but the ordering will be less food. Thank you to the waitress who served our table and helped us know what the different platters of food were. All of it was so very enjoyable because you talked about what each platter was supposed to be yet you werent sure until you took time to taste it well, especially the NZ seafood so expertly disguised. Thank you to my son and Izakai Bar & Eatery
MorePretty average. Had heard good things but very narrow selection of wine, beef and food. Not enough Gluten Free options either. Very nice staff but won’t go back
MoreI really wanted to rate this place but honestly it’s average at best and we won’t go back in a hurry.Hadn’t even been there an hour when we were reminded that they needed our table back. Ordered literally everything the was Gluten Free but was still hungry. My glass of wine was $23.50.Nice staff but it’s overrated. Got the “we’ll do our best but can’t guarantee anything” response to being celiac. Born that way team. Not much of a selection. 2/5
MoreCant go wrong with any of the dumplings or the Kaitaia Fire chicken. Ive been here five times and tried most of the menu - its all great!
MoreI’m sorry to give you bad feedback, and I’ve been here several times which has been great food but tonight sadly it was terrible to the point I refused to pay for the lamb ribs in Horopito crumb. They were 3/4 uncooked fat with a sliver of meat. Really inedible. The rest of our meal was average but so far below your usual standard.
MoreI definitely recommend this restaurant! Amazing food and fast service, staff are friendly and helpful
MoreWent to dinner at Izakai tonight for my birthday with my family from Perth.First impression was so pleasant, as soon as we walked in the door we were instantly greated with a big friendly "Kia ora".To be honest we had never come here before because we thought it would be too expensive, once we sat down and looked at the menu we saw that this was in fact not the case at all.The food was exquisite! The fusion of Japanese and Maori cuisine was simply 🔥. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. Will definately be going back to Izakai.
MoreThe food is great here, especially the ramen! We were disappointed by the service, however. There was a young blonde waitress who was rude and didn’t seem to want to be there, which was disappointing.
MoreWow so delicious .. what a taste sensation.. we will be back .. that’s an easy 5 stars from me
MoreTotally enjoyed our meal and the service was mwah.. thank you so much Izakai Bar and Eatery superb
MoreEverything was so delicious and fresh, cant wait to come back and try more of their menu.
MoreCelebrated my birthday at Izakai with a few great buddies. The food, drinks, and ambience was damn fine! Loved the corner table for letting us all face each other...
MoreDeliciously flavour filled fusion kai! More suited to an adult palate (however the kids loved the riwai and tomato sauce dug out from the kitchen 😆)Our new catch up spot when out of town friends are over - dumplings and beer = tino reka 👌🏽
Morebroth of the tofu ramen was so salty, chicken dryand when we went to give polite feed back the waitress argued with us
MoreFood was delicious, especially the paua and prawn gyozas. Friendly service, made us feel very welcome!
MoreNicest wait staff ever, recommendations where spot on , best meal we have had in the last 6 months, highly recommend izakai to everyone.
MoreEpic food, amazing service. Definitely going to bring friends here!!
We got the taster menu and it was great. The creamed paua and prawn gyoza and karaage chicken were particularly good.
MoreWords do not begin to explain how amazing this food was. We came for lunch and spent $65 p/h to try a bit of everything. The food was beautifully presented. The flavours were on point. The staff were attentive without being over the top. We will be back.
MoreAmazing experience had the $60 a head option where they bring out different options from the menu and just thoroughly enjoyed all the food and the whole taste experience. Amazing service and just a great night of food. Excellent fusion Maori and Japanese kai. Ill definitely be back next time Im in Bay of plenty.
MoreFantastic Japanese & Maori fusion food and staff (the fusion mainly relates to the food rather than the staff. A good selection of spirits and wines too. We had a great night here watching the world go by from one of their high tables. We had a good view of the chefs having a good view of us watching to see if they were watching us eat their delicious dishes 😊. Thank you to all.
MoreThis was a delicious meal, the ramen was absolutely amazing. It had a mild kick to it which was nice. It also had some thicker noodles which is nice to see. The entrees were very tasty and the twist of Māori and Japanese was interesting but the two worked well together. The place it’s self was in the new part of Bayfair which is done very nicely and the decor inside the restaurant managed to flow with the outside. The food also came very quickly and the staff were very prompt which is nice to see. Very nice evening out.
MoreWow!! Such a beautiful meal!! Splashed out and was treated to a fantastic taster menu, everything was delicious!!! Also some great value options with their yummy ramen dishes about $25. Great staff and atmosphere!! Well be back!!
MoreI wanted to love this place, but it was just ok. The ambiance is warm and calm, the menu reads well, the insta photos are attractive…and the food? Just ok. Certain elements were great (the pork belly slices were juicy, tender mouthfuls), others were lacking (the ramen egg noodles tasted like instant noodles). The beef tataki was bland and $25 for 6 gyoza is ambitious. All dishes were presented beautifully.
MoreMe and my husband have had the "lets eat" meals 4 times now, we absolutely love it! Each time we get to try amazing new dishes, our fav is the paua and prawn dumplings with the cauliflower sauce, the wasabi kingfish and the ice cream mochi dessert 🤤🤤🤤. Mouthwatering and amazing service every time. Highly recommend and our number 1 treat to ourselves.
MoreAlways delivers the best meal. Consistently amazing. And a tasty cocktail never goes amiss.
MoreFriendly staffs and nice atmosphere. For foods, be honest, i was expected more like Japanese fusion style. But it wasnt really like that.It wasnt amazingly tasty but good. However, for a main, our menu was very small portions but expensive. The octopus starter was ok though
MoreSeriously I was blown away with this place. The coconut infused gin cocktail is incredible and the food was a huge surprise. Very impressed . Beautiful fit out , good vibe you would not think you were at Bayfair. A cross over of NZ and Japanese food. Very clever..I will be back . The Paua and prawn dumplings not to be missed and the karanga chicken udon soup was perfect. Well done.
MoreFood is made from two ingredients love and passion and there wasnt much of that in our dinner last night. Three of us ordered the sirloin steak which we had been advised had been cured for 7 days, and only came cooked medium rare. It came already sliced and mine was over cooked and dry, especially on the ends.I ordered some dumplings as an entree and they arrived after the main meal had been served. My partner ordered an entree and was eating it when his main meal arrived. Maybe if we had only one person serving our table they might have known what their customers wanted. We sat down at 6.30pm and it was all over at 7.20pm. Not an enjoyable experience as it seemed as if they were trying to get you in, and out as quick as possible. Wont go back there in a hurry
MoreMonday night is a real treat and a variety of flavors. The taste buds started to tingle. Each of us had an Okonomiyaki, the most amazing smoked fish and roe, and an amazing Katsu broccoli on sour plum cream. In the end, I ate mochi ice cream, which is ice cream in thick stewed buns-great.This is a must visit restaurant, whether its the incredible flavor or the friendly team.Thank you for a wonderful dinner night
MoreI was so excited to taste the Maori Japanese fusion food... definitely taste the Japanese but sadly the Maori was missing... pork bone broth was all broth and no pork bone taste. The apple mocktail tasted like flowers. Staff also tried to charge us for drinks we never had
MoreMaori / Japanese fusion food based on shared food concept. Dumpling was disappointing and felt tasteless. Karage was pretty good. The hangi ramen was yum. Broth was flavorful and the meat was juicy and pack full of goodness. Would come back just for the ramen.
MoreBeen there before, cant wait to go back.Great service from Liam, suggestions were delicious.
MoreCannot rate this place highly enough - the food is amazing!! We had the lunch special which was a great way to try a variety of dishes & we discovered the prawn & creamed paua dumplings 😍 next time I may just order them they are that good!! 😉
MoreI can say its a bit pricey but worth it. All food was great and yummy. I wasnt hungry but I had to buy heaps since it was so tasty. The atmosphere is nice and staffs were very friendly and I felt like I was treated very nicely. They are willing to help for all the questions and some are funny. Its better to try all different kind of food from different categories and share with others. This place is more about quality than portions.----‐----I recently went back this place and their menu has been changed and lost lots of good options of menus, which is sad that they dont have small plates menu I loved.Still atmosphere is great and lots of people so we had to wait for food at the bar first. But the taste wasnt same. 400g of lamb ribs were dry and not worth $34 for small 5 pieces. Karaage was average and sauce was just okay. Dumplings..was okay but not much fillings.Portion was still small and I wont be back I guess.
MoreWent to Izakai for dinner. It was a very pleasant evening. The staff looked after us extremely well and were super friendly. As for the food it was amazing, the fusion between Maori and Japanese food was scrumptious. We order some Edamame Beans with spicy kick and they were amazing definitely worth it! My favourite dish was the Kaitaia Fire Karaage Chicken. 🤤🤤🤤 it was perfectly cooked with the right flavours to make your mouth water. If you are wanting a great place with amazing food definitely recommend. And why not try one of their cocktails 🍸!
MoreHad an opportunity to have lunch without my young children! The staff were very helpful and friendly explaining the concept of the menu and the food. Its Japense with a Maori infusion. The food was so tasty definitely will be returning.
MoreBeautiful food. Options galore no matter what you like. You wont see a dessert menu but may be offered a brulee. This is definitely a "share" dessert, its huge! It had dried lychees on it...amazing 😳
MoreAmazingly tasty and innovative dishes. Locally inspired recipes. The kina and scallop dumplings were mind blowing. Service is efficient.
MoreLOVED IT, i wouldnt get any of the Ramen Dishes again but EVERYTHING else was amazing. 10/10 for me. p.s Ramen dishes just werent for me, other tables were smashing theirs 😁👍🏾
MoreWell where do i start.😍😍😍😍.Okay. This place is the bees knees. Ive been there a total of sixteen times. The staff are friendly and have given great service upon every visit. The food is exceptionally great. I recommend the hangi pork ramen and the fire chicken one of my personal faves🤤. Ive added some photos down below so you get a good idea of what yah getting yourself into. #Yumyyumyinmytummy#IZAKAI#GREAT#GREATFOOD#LESGO#LESGOTOIZAKAI#WOW#WOWZERSWell thats enough of the hash tags. Just get yourself down there and enjoy a great experience.
MoreWow! Incredible food with a lot of variety on the menu. Every dish we ordered was amazing and came out in really good time. Service was great and will definitely return again.
MoreExceptional food and service. The ramen is a must have as its broth is very rich and flavorful. My only regret was that I was too full after the first bowl to go for another one. The chicken karaage was really juicy and flavorful as well. Overall a must try if youre in Tauranga.
MoreService is nice and friendly, taste is good, price was high for ramen.
Delicious ramen and great service. The decor is on point too. Such a great idea to have a Maori-Japanese fusion restaurant. This will be our go-to restaurant to visit once the neighbouring cinema is complete.
