Tecpán Guatemala, Guatemala, Solola
Pre-Columbian city ruins dating from the 15th to 16th century with palaces, temples & ball courts.
A Maya fortress that exists during the end of the 15th & the beginning of the 16th centurys
I love the place. Its beautiful. I enjoyed walking around the ruins.
Beautiful place to visit ,if you have the opportunity to go
Love!! Loved walking around and getting the full experience! So much history.
Tranquil archeaological site with an active ceremonial site. There is a small museum, with information only available in Spanish. There is no to very little info on the site itself on the buildings or places. Very peaceful environment
Really nice place to visit. It isnt very large, the temples are smallish and a bit in rough shape but nevertheless its worth the 50q to enter and experience it, as its not well trafficked by foreigners but yes by locals
Learned alot will be coming back. Super excited to visit again. Fun 10 ten days.
Walked in the footsteps of a civilization that was here and was strong before the arrival of Spaniard conquistadors.
If youre a fan of Mayan culture/history, dont miss these. Beautiful and well maintained, also active archeological site.
Super clean ruins near Lake Atitlan. It’s Q50 for extranjeros and Q5 for Guatemalans. To arrive using public transit from Panajachel:-Pana to Solola (Q5)-Solola to Los Encuentros (Q3.5)-Los Encuentros to Tecpan (Q10(the bus will be going to Antigua, but you get off early)-in Tecpan walk to the Central Park and ask where the shuttle stop is (Q5or get a Tuctuc (Q5-Q15 per person)
Once the capital of the Mayan Empire, these ruins are huge and still in use. I could have spent the entire day here soaking in the history and the tranquility.
Iximche was a great surprise during our last visit in Guatemala.A beautiful archeological place!Lots of visitors, a lot of local Mayan people visiting as well. Our favorite part about the place was the respect of the archeological pieces. Some pyramids are still below some trees 🌲We like also that some people still practice some Mayan rituals at this place. Some local people also come to have family picnic 🧺
There is a small museum that you should see first before entering the ruin area. The grounds are full of ruins and information. Be mindful and respectful of any ongoing rituals.
This place is amazing, not too crowded and not very small. The plant of the constructions are very well preserved and the park is very clean and maintained.
Its a pretty nice place to go and the ruins are kind of intact. Most of the area is outside ruins, though there is also a museum that shows some artifacts and explains some stuff about there. I personally had the chance to see a ceremony though I do not know how common those are or if they are common. My only complaint is in the museum there is not any English for the things to read in the museum. There are also tour guides so they may be able to explain it though I am not sure.
The site is small, but of historic relevance. Its well kept. Entrance bathrooms a clean. Short drive from Guatemala city.Book a guide on site to understand the history and what the buildings are.
Nice place. Good place to learn history and culture. Bilingual guide was well knowledged and hospitable. I wish the Guatemalan government would allocate money to help support and preserve history like this. Not take money that comes from visitors
PROs: beautiful, very peaceful (bring a book and a picnic), little people, English-speaking guide for $20, Mayan ceremonies ongoing on the day I visited, not expensive (50Q), free parkingCONs: museum was closed, dont know why, signs are only in Spanish and there are only very few
Absolutely beautiful and close to Antigua for tourists
Wonderful history. We had a guide, Alex. He was extremely informative and personable. Well worth the $$. Otherwise its just a lot of rocks. We were graced to get to watch an actual religious ceremony!
Loved it, take in to account that no food is allowed inside the park, and no food is sold outside, bathrooms are reasonably maintained, and there is free parking
A very nice side trip. The park is clean and well maintained. We were able to witness a fire ceremony performed by a Mayan shaman. Very good energy here
Great tour guide Edwin with Intecap.
A Guide would add to your best experience here. Alex was really good! But to get into A Fire ceremony with a local Mayan Shaman elder was even better. There is a calming energy about this location. And simply beautiful. Be respectful of the no climbing in certain areas.
This was a nice area and interesting to visit, but I only gave it four stars because it was a little underwhelming as far as ancient ruin areas go. If its not too far out of your way to visit, I would recommend stopping by. But I personally wouldnt make a long drive to see it. It was a nice stop on our way home from visiting Lake Atitlan. There are some areas that are marked off and you are not allowed to climb in order to protect the ruins. It was interesting to see a bit of history.
Take an incredible walk through the plazas, so rich in history.. we really took our time to learn and discover!
Nice play to go to with the family during the weekends and learn about the Maya civilization.
Small, but beautiful and clean. Our guide, Melvin, was one of the best Ive had anywhere.
Great Mayan place to learn how they lived!!
Such an amazing experience! An incredible place with awesome views and history, perfect for those who enjoy an outdoors experience.
Beautiful, so peaceful
Very interesting sights. Of course not as impressive as Tikal, but medicine men and midwives aso are doing religious rituals over there which is very interesting.
Fascinating Mayan ruins that have been under excavation since 1978...this is a fantastic place to go if you have any interest and mesoamerican archaeology or Mayan culture! You have an opportunity to visit a authentic Mayan ball field, the Temple of the moon and the Temple of the sun...And thats just in the first section of the ruins!
Cool place. Paid a few bucks for a guide to take us around. Saw a Mayan ceremony. They sacrificed a duck and burnt it along with food as an offering to the gods.
This is an amazing site with plenty of ruins to look at. The only downside is that they didnt have any of their informational signs translated into English.
Poor information, more of a family recreation place but a very important place in Guatemalan history
Nice maya site. Panels with information available only in Spanish - it is recommended to get a local guide or check on the internet for information.
Is a small area archaeological, has a Museum.
If youre looking for large temples this is not the place for you. If youre looking for culture, history and to feel reconnected with nature then its definitely worth the drive. Had a beautiful and peaceful stroll through the grounds on a quiet weekday morning. The museum, although small, had very interesting artifacts and information.
Very cool. I was here 40-plus years ago and they have really improved the site. They have a nice museum and I would certainly recommend a guide for your experience. For those who would enjoy it, in the mornings they have a Mayan ceremony that anyone is welcome to join.
Cute little ruins. The place is cozy, great for a short walk to get some fresh air. The entrance ticket is super cheap and you get too see some authentic Mayan rituals at times. Not too crowded, close to restaurants and the highway. Nice place to visit if you’re in Tecpan.
Good place. Not crowded. Can visit if not raining.
I hadnt expected that was really great. The experience was great because the ruins are very well maintained and this national park is very peaceful and beautiful. We were lucky because one tour guide accompanied us and explained so well. We enjoyed the short tour very much!If to go there, I recommend you to ask the for tour guide.
Great experience on this small Mayan ruins. But very rich in details thanks to our guide Luis. (He speaks perfect English)
Nice Mayas ruins, excellent to be in touch with a bit of the Mayas culture. Is close to Tecpan, you can get there by bus.
The history is so interesting it is not full of large temples like Tical... But the grounds are beautiful. Spend the money on a guided tour. Alexs (tour guide found at the entrance to the parkEnglish was fantastic and he has great knowledge and insight that you wont get without a guide.
This is an extremely interesting Mayan archaeological site that dates from about 1460. There are three pyramids along with a ceremonial site and some ball courts. Well worth visiting. One recommendation is to visit with a guide that speaks your native language if you dont understand Spanish.
Definitely recommend a stop here. Cool to see the ruins of Guatemalas first capital. Also had the honor of seeing a Mayan ritual here.
There is an area inside the site where locals come and perform fire rituals from Mayan spiritual lrgacy! The ritesare not part of any touristic atracction locals just come and make them, keeping traditions alive!
Easy access and parking. There are local guides that can give you a tour around the ruins. Nice place to know about Guatemalan history. Fresh air and excellent views.
