Ivan Pescar - Fish Bar - Restaurant in Tulcea, Romania
When visiting Tulcea I had to eat fish for dinner. Permanent. After looking and checking there was simply no other place to go than the Ivan Pescar fish bar for the best fish restaurant in town. Arriving here on a Thursday evening it wasnt crowded at all. I have been served very quickly by a friendly English speaking waitress. Looking inside the kitchen you directly have the feeling the food will be prepared instantly and not in advance. Good signs. For a pre-starter I took the Marinated Sardines in wine/oil/spicy oil(Sardeluță marinată în vin / ulei / ulei picantwhich was tasty and lovely with my red wine. It could be perfect if they dont serve the red wines cold, such a shame cause after a while when it reaches surrounding temperature it taste delicious! There was some cork inside the glass, but that have been solved by a new glass of wine after a small negotiation;). So, the soup Storceag with surgeon meat was the next dish, which was delicious as well, also by dipping the complementary bread in it. For main I had the Plachie de somn or Catfish stew. Again delicious and as expected nice fresh and warm polenta and not preprepared! My belly was already pretty full, but with the good quality I couldnt resist to try the Plăcintă cu mere și fructe de pădure (Apple and berries pie which is basically a strudel). Again, full of taste, big, crispy and richly filled. I had a great dinner! See the pics for what I got!
We just hopped in by surprise and had a phantastic dinner with the fish soup (ciorba de peste), catfish (with some tomato salsa& polenta. As desert I had clâtita cu branza (with raisins), a layered desert with cheese and noodles. The vine is not really to mention (they don’t seem to have great wines around hereand draft beer seems to be unknown as well, as it wasn’t the only place where We only got bottle beer.Service was also very nice!Great job!Absolutely recommended!! 👍🏻
My first tasty meal in Romania 😋 absolutely perfect!
Fish was perfectly prepared, soft inside with crunchy coating. Good selection of local wines and spirits. Only thing to improve: please do not serve toast bread. Its not corresponding quality-wise with the food you make.
Best fish cuisine I’ve came across in Romania.
Excellent food and service, some of the best fish dishes I ever ate. Hot peppers are hot. Highly recommend.
Never disappoints. One of the few restaurants we always visit when were in Tulcea. The service has always been on point, the food never took more than 20 minutes to arrive and try as we might we could not find many faults in the dishes themselves. Overall a great dinning experience. One issue, as I am writting this, was the construction project happening just in front of the restaurant.
Mediocre food. I had great expectation but got a plain fish soup (borsh de peste).
Very good and tasty fish. And good service from the young waiter. But we couldnt choose different fishes and beers cause they didnt have it. The same for the dessert, we couldnt eat a simple placinta on Friday night
Delicious food, especially the fish soups (storceag & borsand fish steaks, fast service, good prices!
The food was great and we were served in no time, nothing to add here. However, the waitress who took our order was rude, which ruined the whole experience.
If you really want to feel the true culinary experience that the Danube Delta has to offer, then this is the right place. Amazing food and good prices.
Ivan pescar is a traditional fishing restaurant with amazing food. They serve only fish and out is just amazingly good. We have come a second time in Tulcea just to eat at Ivan Pescar. Absolutely recommend stopping by.👍
Ingredients seemed fresh, and everything tasted fine, but the fish was overcooked and a bit bland.
As expected in a fish bar in Romania, the veggie options were limited... However, what we had was fine.Staff were friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was welcoming. They didnt even mind us watching Boris Johnsons resignation whilst we ate!!
Great service with good food, the soup fish is awesome.
Exquisite food. We had the Ivan platter as a starter and as main dish, the Sturgeon brine and the Zander a la plancha with polenta and garlic sauce (they’ve been so kind to amend the dish for us). Service extremely friendly. After having tried the other 2 good restaurants in Tulcea, can definitely say this is the best place to eat in town.
Malasolca, is a dish name that sounds weird but exotic. Malasolca means a little salty in Russian (mala-a little, salionîi / salionaia means salty). It is made from dried fish, just like scordolea. They are simple, fishy dishes with a special taste. Ingredients:Dried fish, potatoes garlic or horseradish hot peppers-optional.I made this description for others to avoid surprises as I did.I chose a dish that unfortunately it tasted strange. I am originally from that area and for me it should not have been a problem reinterpreting the recipe but here there was a problem with the fish that had a different taste. Maybe it wasnt fresh, maybe it wasnt properly coocked.I recommend to try the restaurant when you go to Tulcea, but I advise trying scordolea from their menu, that is also a traditional food and delicious!Prices are medium, with a good value for money.
Great service and delicious food! Well done!
Delicious experience!! Everything we tried was perfect. It was the best choice we could have in Tulcea. Well try the Bucharest restaurant, hoping it is as good as this one.
Great food! Clean bathrooms, nice staff. Probably the best fish I’ve ever had. We came off season so some of the courses were not available, but other than that - a lovely surprise in Tulcea.
Very tasty food. Good service. But the stray cats jumping on the benches and asking for food and rubbing upon your clothes and purse while you are eating are irritating. Nobody is doing anything about it. It is not the fault of restaurant, but the fact that a stray cat which possibly has parasites and for sure is dirty can jump on the bench or the table with your food makes the whole impression spoiled.
Renowned for its fish dishes, Ivan delivers in full - excellent service, very good food (quickly servedand all seasoned with sone Danube views.Just great!Be prepared as it is on the upper price range.
Best fish I had in my life(zander in white sauce). I appreciate nice amd very polite stuff who tried to explain me something about missing ingredients. Even though I didnt understand, they brought something exceeding my expectations.u Unbelievable cosy for average prices. I wish I could come back again, but I am not from Romania. Highly recommended!
Since we knew this restaurant from Bucharest, we expected the same service and atmosphere. But it was not the case. The appetizers came together with the main course. The main course was cold (the boiled potatoes and the grilled vegetables especially). The fishroes were very tasty. In the end, even the excuse was that the restaurant was full, we had to go inside to pay the bill, nobody showed up with it.
The food is great and the service is always good. So you dont need to wary for anything, just enjoy the order and relax.
Very nice, I recommand this restaurant and will come again!
A fish restaurant with local products. If you come to Romania to visit Danube Delta, you have to eat here. One of my favourite recipes is "caras prajit". I will leave you a photo. 😁
Very nice place and great food. The serving was fast. Recommend!
Modest and extremely expensiveLocation on the “croisette “ of Tulcea, near the hotel were I was hosted. Beginner staff but decent. The cleanliness poor , like you can find in most of the places all over Romania, dishes were tasteless without any authenticity , considering the place and probably the owner ( if is that one ....Surprisingly the prices are extremely high for what they serve. I don’t recommend. Seems to be tourist trap.By the way the “ croisette” is almost demolished by time....
The place is ok, good location on the seafront. I ordered the Ivan Pescar plate, but the dishes seemed to me to be exactly like the ones in the supermarket. The main course was really good: saramura de somn si picanca de salau. Quite bad and unprofessional staff, and wine too expensive for a Sarica Niculitel ....
Food is ok, but not great. Prices are a little bit high, but the location maybe justifies the prices. Service is sloppy - they forgot mid order to take the drinks order for half of the table.
Reasonable restaurant with good soups and fresh fish .
The kitchen opens at 12, we arrived at 11:45 and asked if possible to be served quickly as we were boarding for Sulina. They said all food is cooked before 12:00.Our order was taken at 12:15 and we were served half an hour later. The food is alright but nothing to remember, the interior smells like an old cantina and the staff is kind of bored and uninterested. It gets 3 stars only because of Ivan Patzaichins name and the insanely well decorated bathroom
The portions are not very big but the fish was delicious! I recommend the Pike Pikanka in particular if you like your food a little spicy.
Good fish and good service. Portions are not so big though. They currently dont take cards as they have a problem with their system.
Ive been here 3 times and the people were always great. Ive only tasted 2 dishes. The mussels in white sauce are just awesome for me, but next time I will try something else. I love the vibe, I love the way they decorated the place. And to be honest with you, from all the places Ive been to in Tulcea this is the greatest. Maybe Im lucky and I didnt have to wait long for the menu (theyre always on the table, the food to arrive etc. :)
Best place to have fresh and well cooked fish in Tulcea
Exquisite traditional fish dishes, the smoked fish especially. Promotes responsible fishing and sustainable tourism.
Nice food for fish dishes lovers, fast and polite serving, good prices and plenty of option in menu to chose from. All dishes made with fresh local fish, you can eat inside where they have air conditioning and also outside on the terrace. Also they have inside a gift shop where you can find something suitable for all ages. No booking need , for sure Il visit again.
Neat design, very observant staff and great food. Any table has a view over Danube but food really rocks ! Note: fish restaurant, fresh fish and tasty specialties
Excellent fish restaurant on the Danube side. The menu is limited which for me is a sign of authenticity. Also, according to the staff all the fish served is fresh and comes from the Danube. The prices are also very reasonable. Ate here 4 times (every evening during our stay in Tulcea).
Good food, nice service, but a little bit too expensive. Fresh fish all over, well cooked. :Good cuisine experience when in Tulcea.
The place is special and the food is good. Inside its not large and the kitchen its open so you could see how your food is prepared, but there is also the smell...For Tulcea, an ugly city, this is a different, congratulations! Big prices, a little big too big.
Good view, very tasty food. We had no problem with the service, but when we got there it was not very crowded.
Best fish, maybe best meal, Ive ever had
Good food , you have to try fish soup
Good simple sea food in a lovely place. The staff is very hospitable and the food is fine. I would very much recommend it due to its particularly pleasent atmosphere.
Nice place with river view, tasty fish dishes and a reserved calm approach in customer treatment.
Great selection of fresh fish. If u are arriving around lunch time be sure uve booked a table before arrival.
