Japanese restaurant focused on organic, vegan meals, hosting workshops on sustainable food.
Itadaki Zen in Kamba
Description
Privilege
Good quality food and nice options, however the whole experience was let down by the portion sizes. We ordered 9 dishes - all of which were far far too small. One rice portion was a couple of spoonfuls! We spent nearly £70 on food but were left hungry, barely enough for one person.
MoreThe food is very good and the waitress is kind and quick.
The portions are very small for the price. The shoyu ramen was mildly flavourful. I wouldnt recommend it. But the other tapas items on the menu seem interesting and I might try them next time.
MoreWhilst its always lovely to see a purely vegan restaurant, most of the dishes are blander then expected. And with an average of £8 a dish the portitions are quite small and underwhelming. I unfortunately wouldnt recommend.
MoreGreat food and friendly staff. The food comes in tapas so it was great to try different things and sharing them with everyone. My favourite ones were the sushi, the gyoza and the passion fruit mochi.I would definitely recommend to anyone, even the meat eaters from our great loved it!!
MoreGreat vegan Japanese restaurant. Service was friendly and paced well. A large variety of well flavoured food to pick from. Just wish the restaurant was bigger! If you come here then make sure to book.
MoreThe food here is really delicious and creative but what made it stand out was the amazing service. Our waitress went above and beyond to make sure we had a delicious meal and great drinks, without being remotely pushy. The whole experience was just great and I really recommend it here!
MoreOutstanding, clean, fresh, inventive and delicious. Plus great service.Quite simply one of my favourite restaurants in London.
MoreSuper colourful vegan dishes in a tightly packed restaurant. The croquettes and oyster mushrooms are must picks, while the pickles and tempura sushi were also quite nice. The soup dumplings were quite bland unfortunately, and the drink selection is very limited for a tapas-style restaurant.
MoreA refreshing antidote to London’s vegan sceneIncreasingly, I am finding myself seeking out vegan spots for their atmosphere. There is plenty of great vegan food in London, but many venues prioritise novelty dishes and ✨pizazz ✨ over a quiet place to sit and eat a lovingly-made meal.Itadakizen does not have the hyper-modern, “trendy” feel a lot of other v restaurants do- all lo-fi music and lavender lattes. This is warm wooden decor, jars of homemade pickles and japanese wines along the walls, staff friendly and attentive, small, bustling, hut-like on an unassuming side-street near King’s Cross Station. Here, veganism is not the point but a cruelty-free bonus to a homely japanese restaurant.I don’t mind the more common genre of vegan restaurant, but it has its time and place. Whereas, I would bring my parents here, or come on my own for a soul-warming ramen after a train journey. It is a place to sit and eat calmly, not to instagram or have a big social or experience a crazy new dish. The food feels homemade, traditional. The oyster mushroom squid is fun, the sushi is a little rice-heavy but delicious. The pickles are wonderful, sharp and sweet. All the food comes in different kinds of ceramic dishes and bowls. The prices can add up when getting a lots of small dishes, but not unreasonably so. The whole place feels thoughtful and understated: kind of an antidote to what I’ve come to expect from all-vegan venues. Will definitely be back, whenever I need a break from the cheeze and bacun beyond burgers of the world. 🍜
MoreAbsolutely amazing little restaurant, what a find!! 😍 The food was so delicious and the staff super accommodating when we had to change our reservation time twice.Fairly priced for the amazing quality you get.I simply cant wait to go back again!
MorePerfect match. All was sooooo tasty ! Really food ogasmic. We took seven tapas for 2 peuple, with 2 desserts, it was more than enough. Employees are sweet and kind. Rapide service despite the succes restaurant.I highly recommand !
MoreFood is great, nice, cozy atmosphere, lovely staff.Maybe a bit expensive for the amounts you get. Also they no longer have the sushi plate from some of the pictures in here—was really looking forward to trying that.
MorePretty good vegan meal, great drinks and desserts, cozy ambience, but rather slow service during busy dinner hours.Drinks: We had the Roku and Yuzu cocktail, and the yuzu wine. Both of these were fantastic and very flavorful.Plates: We ordered the gyoza, the sushi roll, the seaweed salad, the miso aubergine and the calamari. The gyoza was rather underwhelming- it mostly just tasted deep fried (nothing wrong with deep fried! But I expected more to the flavor profile…), and was pretty bland on its own. The sushi roll was dry and also not particularly flavorful. The seaweed salad had some interesting flavors, but it seemed to mostly be arugula and spinach with very little seaweed which, which was surprising. The miso glazed aubergine was tender and delicious, and the calamari stole the show with great flavor and texture.Desserts: We wanted to try the yuzu cheesecake, but alas, they had run out by the time we ordered. We ended up getting the passionfruit mochi instead, which was fabulous! Great mochi texture and strong passionfruit note in the ice cream filling.Overall, this is a 3/4- a good place for an above average vegan meal, but a lot of dishes could be improved, which would make it a real winner.
MoreVery very nice! We were lucky to walk in with no reservation. I loved their tapas style pan asian plates. Perfect for sharing in 2 or more.We shared 5 tapas plates then had a spicy ramen each (very tasty), with mochis for dessert (they were ok, but I wouldnt get again, Id try another dessert). Great service, I would go back to try more food!
MoreFriendly staff, nice authentic food.Try the yuzu wine :)
Lovely lil place which is fully vegan.the place itself feels so homey and the food there is great.I ordered the curry dish that came with rice and vegetables along a side of Tofu steak.the food came out quickly, the curry sauce was so well seasoned and delicious and the Tofu steak was superb, soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside with top of green onion and a great sauce.the service was lovely and there were so many other dishes on the menu I think one time is just not enough.
MoreVegan Japanese food is my favourite food and this is one of my favourite restaurants in the world! Very authentic and comparable with a zen ryoken / temple in the Japanese alps I stayed at years ago.
MoreWow! What an amazing little place. Great choice of vegan japanse food, the spicy ramen was the best ive had since going vegan. The homeade kimchi is something else having had to acoud kimchi for such a long time.If youre missing good Japanese food since going vegan this is the place for you.
MoreExcellent vegan Japanese food. Had bento boxes for lunch and they were delicious. The aubergine was the favourite but the vegetable gyoza and tofu steak were excellent too. Hope to be back in the future to try more of the menu!
MoreAmazing amazing amazing. Tasty affordable and great service. Can’t ask for much more
MoreAn AMAZING vegan meal!!! Inventive and most of all delicious!! There was a warm and cozy atmosphere, and the staff was incredibly kind and patient with our every request. I cant recommend this sweet and authentic place enough! Bonus tip - order the mochi. Trust me.Thank you Itadaki Zen for showing us a wonderful time 😁
MoreStopped to London for a business trip and this restaurant was absolutely amazing. Wonderful atmosphere, staff were so caring and food was just 5 stars. Definitely going to come again
MoreAlways a winner. I’ve come to this vegan Japanse place for over 7 years and it just never disappoints. It’s tiny inside but packs so much flavor in the dishes. One better than the next and don’t forget to order the desserts because they’re just delicious. We had all the time tofu starters, the eggplant (so good and tastythe spicy and the regular ramen and the cheesecake and the mochi.Already planning my next evening at Itadaki, what a little gem!
MoreIncredible vegan food. They truly have perfected their craft. The vegan calamari and nuggets tasted just as good if not better than their meat alternatives. Soothing green tea also enhanced the experience.
MoreA place to die for. I’ve been vegan for 6 years and I’ve never had such a tasteful meal. I’m very glad to have chosen this place for my birthday meal. Now I’ll come back every time I visit London. Amazing food, amazing service (cutest waitresses ever!and amazing interior design. We loved it! Thank you and thank you!
MoreThe BEST japanese restaurant, and it’s all vegan! A small space with a cozy and calming atmosphere and the most delicious food. Everything we tried was really nice, but the dessert was the best of the best! Do not leave without trying the mochi ice cream, it is heavenly. Bring your non-vegan friends with you, they won’t regret it.
MoreVegan Japanese? Definitely something worth trying! A big selection of interesting dishes. We particularly liked the meatballs, the gyoza, and the sushi. However, we found the portions quite small for the price. Also, the fact that the dishes are supposed to be shared between two people but most dishes have 5 pieces was a bit strange - especially when each piece is different, like the sushi for example. But the place is cute and the overall experience was nice 😊
MoreFood is flavourful, portion sizes are smaller as described in the menu (tapas portions). Therefore, order a few dishes to make it a decent meal. Will go back to try their ramen!
MoreWent here two weeks ago for a meal with a friend. Very good casual-style Japanese food in an authentic and cosy setting. We got the spicy ramen and were not disappointed. Definitely recommend if youre in the area or if youre vegetarian or vegan.
MoreStaff were very friendly and attentive. Food was good and flavourful
What an awesome Vegan casual restaurant. Excellent food- lovely to have some interesting vegan dishes. Good atmosphere. Great service. I look forward to returning.
MoreCasual Vegan Japanese restaurant serving nice range of dishes - In particular, the Chapche and Mushroom/Tofu croquettes were great. Good value too and friendly staff. Worth a visit midweek if you don’t fancy cooking. If you’re looking for more of a dining experience from a atmosphere/interior perspective, there are more fancy, expensive options in the area, but the food hits the spot!
MoreAmazing authentic Japanese vegan food!A lot of options for small dishes to share and try. Prices are good for the area, and the food is amazing. The Miso Glazed Aubergine is a must!
MoreMost amazing miso aubergine! Oyster mushrooms, bibimbap and mochi were excellent too.
MoreFirst time back here for a while - I remembered it was good but it exceeded my expectations! Fantastically well-balanced flavours, I especially liked the aubergine and vegan Meatballs. First time trying plum wine as well, which was very drinkable. Staff were very attentive and service was quick despite it being quite busy. Not the cheapest place (£50 for two with a drinkbut if youd like a something a bit special, this is a great choice!
MoreCould potentially be one of the best Japanese restaurants in London in terms of value for money, let alone the best vegan restaurants (I’m not even vegan!Every dish was full of flavour and cooked with passion, I’ve already recommended to several friends and family and I look forward to going back. The aubergine was incredible and some of the best kimchi I’ve tried!
MoreItadaki Zen is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in London. It is very affordable and the food there is really good. The service was also exceptional <3 I would definitely recommend the matcha cheesecake and also the plum wine. // edit: their miso ramen and aubergine are amazing 10/10 recommend you try these.
MoreOur night here was gorgeous! I came here with a friend this evening. It was a very understated and modest restaurant. We werent expecting the food and service to be so fantastic but it really was! Due to covid we had to preorder what kind of meal we were having so we went for the more expensive option and it did not disappoint. Sushi, ramen, tempura, and cheesecake made us so happy! Thank you! 🥰
MoreGreat place for veggie / vegan meal. All the food was really excellent and fresh! Service was brilliant, food came quickly and hot. Small menu means you can very quickly try everything.
MoreWhat an amazing place! Really delicious vegan food! Having been to Japan only a couple of months ago, this really reminded me of small and cosy restaurants there. Its a perfect place for a dinner date.Service was very friendly and efficient. Food is also well priced.Cant wait to be back again!!
MoreSmall cute restaurant with a cafe vibe to it. The service was almost non existent. We had a booking and when we arrived, it took ages for someone to take us to our seats. Then took a long time to get someones attention to take our order. Also took ages to get soneones attention to ask for the bill. The food itself was quite bland and small for the price.
MoreItadaki Zen is a charming and small restaurant situated near the Kings Cross St. Pancras Underground Station. I arrived around 6:30 p.m. on Monday and I hadn’t booked the restaurant before I go. However, I had no difficult to get a table for one.The cuisine is plant-based and is thought for those who believe that food can be an important factor to prevent as much illness as possible. The menu offers starters, set menus and sushis, side dishes, desserts, drinks and lunch menus. I had the “Itadaki Cours noodles set” made of (1a Starter: 3 Vegetable dishes and 6 Pieces of sushi, (2a main course: Harumaki and Noodles and (3a Season Pudding as a Dessert. The starters and the main menu were tasty and really thrilled me. I couldn’t remember the last time I had eaten a good vegan sushi option. All the products were fresh and it looked like the chefs took great care about the quality of the ingredients. The service accompanied the quality of the cooking. The waitresses were attentive to my needs without being overbearing.I had a pleasant dining experience.
MoreWhoa. Vegan Japanese cuisine made right. The only problem we had was choosing what not to eat, because everything looks (and isso damn delicious. These guys really know their stuff and the food is a shining example of this fact. This is a vegan must-visit in London.
MoreWe came to Itadaki Zen to celebrate a birthday :)My birthday friend is vegan so we decided to of course come to an all vegan place and Itadaki was the best choice we ever made. The food was absolutely amazing, as well as the place. One of my friends and I are not vegan and we absolutely loved the food :D so did my vegan friend :DI definitely recommend it :)Small , stress free restaurant with amazing food! What else can you ask for ?
MoreBeing vegan, organic and tasty is one thing, but being all these things and have a great variety of items is another. Theres nothing wrong with Itadaki Zen, but also nothing too special. Everything on the menu looks good enough to eat, but none of the dishes was popping out or seeming particularly interesting or delicious. Its not exceptionally expensive, but not cheap either, as essentially youre just eating vegetables with rice/noodles. Very light dishes that definitely wont make you feel stuffed. Gluten free and nut free options available.
MoreIve always knew that Asian food can be catered for vegans/vegetarians. And Japanese food with no exception. This restaurant is located in Islington, where the closes station is Kings Cross. If youre going for dinner i would recommend making a reservation on the safe side as it does get busy, given its not a big restaurant. They have a nice variety of food, sushi, bento, dons, tempura etc. It wouldve been awesome if they served seitan as an option for katsu curryService and food was really good and as expected. I ordered a set menu where by i get a starter (sushi), main (udon with tempuraand dessert (sesame pudding)I would recommend this place if your vegan and craving for some Japanese food.
MoreDelicious Japanese vegan food, good portions, organic without being too expensive. Whats not to love? We had a great time here, will definitely recommend to anyone. There is additional seating downstairs and its good for medium sized groups as well.
MoreExcellent restaurant with modern twist on traditional food. The atmosphere of dining experience cannot be faulted. Selected choice of vegan alternative Japanese food was impressive. Dessert was excellent indeed. I would recommend the set course for maximum enjoyment of what this restaurant has to offer.Price is on the higher side. Booking is essential as the seating is limited. Would recommend bring cash for payment as there was 10% off offer on the bill.
MoreWe came here for a lovely vegan people and werent disappointed. Greeted by a truly Japanese atmosphere - with all of its characteristic humbleness - this cosy little place didnt let us down. The staff was lovely; the place is dripping "kawaii" from every corner ( tiny little miniature scene behind the toilet, to die for). And lastly, the food is simply so wholesome , balanced, tasty, fresh. Really a very outstanding experience overall, highly recommended
