Iron Horse Tavern - University Town Centre - Restaurant in Morgantown, United States
They put cheese on a order after they confirmed multiple times that they would not which is a major hassle for a pick up order. The brussel sprouts were lame. Burger was great. Chicken sandwich was great. Chips and side salad were fine. For the price and hassle, we wont be back.
I have referred family & friends to Iron horse time and time again. However, after several visits to the one at University town center, I dont speak as highly.Still a better choice over any chain restaurant only bc we like to support local.I suggest to visit the High Street location for quality service, food, & experience.
The service is very slow, almost an hour wait for a burger? College town food. Burger was good when arrived. But after you’re done eating a greasy burger, one usually wants to wash the grease off your hands. And dry them. But the paper towels in the restroom were out.
Solid brunch experience. The steak was a little over cooked. Mimosas were on point. Eggs were as ordered. Potatoes were ok.
Start off with the nachos and brussel sprouts, then try the beet salad and then go burger! Wash it down with a Porter!
The staff was nice but the online menu didn’t work and the service was very slow. The food took over an hour to arrive and the waitress was nowhere to be found throughout the majority of our experience. The food was okay when it finally did come out but nothing special. Had a lot of potential but poor execution.
Quaint place with a modern, rustic vibe. The salmon was tasty, but a bit overwhelmed by dry pecans. The loaded mash was nicely seasoned and I was quite surprised how much bacon came piled on top. Our server decided to choose our side for us after we ordered by placing my mac and cheese upgrade on my husbands order instead of mine for a vegetable substitute. Therefore I should have still received my plate as it comes with two sides - vegetables as the second. None noted and unfortunately the mac n cheese was surprisingly bland. Chicken sandwich was toasted nicely. The best feature was the drink special - black currant lavender lemonade - absolutely delightful. The initial drink service was pretty slow, but the food came out quickly and made up for it. Straightforward menu, meals dont include salad or bread. They have limited paper menus (presumably due to COVID precautionsand upon our arrival before 7pm on a weekend night they were printing more. They have a scan code for an online menu, but on two new phones (newest Samsung ultra, iPhoneit wouldnt load due to being a corrupt file. The tables around us endorsed that they had to wait for menus as well. Overall a pleasant experience.
Staff was polite and professional. Brunch was just okay (my eggs were luke warm and my pancakes were cold). My husband ordered sausage gravy and biscuits, which he said was good. My daughter ordered buckwheat pancake balls which were also good. They didnt have a kids menu and almost no substitutions for people with allergies (my son has an egg allergy).
Menu for liquor was huge, as large as the food one. Food ok. Server was very nice but dinner took longer than expected. It was average as far as there wasnt anything ordered that would make me come back anytime soon. I am not a drinker when I go out, so if you want stricktly a good meal this was fine to try once
Brunch service was slow. Not sure if it was staffing or what, but we were there 45 minutes before our food came out, which was cold. There were substantial gaps between times the waitress came to our table.
Been to both locations, I kinda like the downtown locale better, but both are nice. The food is REALLY good - I suggest the sautéed brussle sprouts and either the BLFGT or the Carolina pulled pork sandwiches. Great selection of beers as well and a friendly staff.
We decided to try a new place for my roommates birthday, but boy did we make a poor decision. There were 7 of us out to eat and when we got there we had to sit at 2 separate tables because of covid. I get it, but a warning would have been nice. No one came to our table for a good 10 minutes. We ordered 2 appetizers that simply took too long to come. Now we were hungry and anxiously waiting for our meals. When our food came, my roommates meal was freezing cold. She had the salmon with mashed potatoes and veggies and it wasnt even warm in the slightest. We asked for it to be heated back up and the waitress said because of COVID rules, they had to remake the dish and it would only be a couple minutes. Imagine sitting there on your birthday with no food watching your friends eat. The food didnt come for another 20 minutes and our waitress then offered without hesitance, “I can box it up for you to take it to go!”. Are you kidding me? Its her birthday and our waitress has the audacity to ask her to take it to go. She replied “actually no because its my birthday and I’d like to sit and eat here”. Next when we asked for our checks, gratuity was already added because we were a larger party. If you recall me mentioning earlier we had to sit at 2 SEPARATE tables, we were in fact NOT a large party. Ridiculous. Food was acceptable, service was a disgrace.
Very dimly lit, need more lighting at night inside especially by the windows. Im sure its fine during the day. Whole wings were good, but they were out of any beer from High Ground Brewing.
Got curbside takeout: shout out to the server who rushed back and got my dog a few pieces of bacon to share. Made her and my day!! Haha ♡
We came to Iron Horse today to celebrate a birthday and it was a wonderful experience. Our server Seth was excellent! All of the food came out exactly as we ordered and it was delicious. The atmosphere was clean, comfortable and there was plenty of room to social distance. I will definitely be back soon 😄
After wonderful experiences at the downtown iron horse we decided to try this one. I ordered the breakfast platter and my boyfriend ordered the the steak and eggs. Although, his food Was cold he hates complaining. So he ended up just eating his food. I couldn’t manage eating my eggs they were ice cold along with the potatoes and pancakes. I informed my waitress how sorry I was I hate sending food back but I could manage to eat cold pancakes, but not cold eggs/bacon/potatoes. She apologized took it back and came back 2 mins later with my food. She said I popped it in the microwave should be good now. I was left speechless. Especially during COVID-19 and being a server I know the laws of food service. For her to take my food that I touched back into the kitchen and microwave it and come back and tell me it’s all good now. I did not pay a 45 dollar bill for microwaved food. The situation could’ve easily been handled different. Our server seemed very unapologetic and disconnected from food service.
Great Food Great Services Great Selection 👍 👌 😀
Our waiter took our drink orders right away and delivered them, but then stood and talked to friends at another table by us for at least 15 min before bringing us someone elses food. We had to remind him we hadnt even ordered yet. Once we finally ordered, our appetizer cheese dip was cold so he took it back and microwaved it and said he would give us a discount due to the inconvenience. We ordered 1 entree to split and added a side salad to also split. He acknowledged that we were splitting because he made sure to bring us extra plates. When we got the bill he didnt give us the discount and charged full price for a salad stating he thought it was my meal instead of an addition to the entree, although we had discussed we were sharing everything. Service not great, food was good once warm, but definitely not $45 with 2 people splitting an appetizer and an entree good.
4 stars staff was excellent never have been there before wasnt sure what to expect.I couldnt eat my sandwich the pork was dry and the manager took it off the bill. The other people with my table all enjoyed the meals. All of our appetizers were excellent. Just one sandwich could have been a mishap I will return and try something else.
Kristina was amazing! I was very nervous about coming out to eat with COVID still going on, but Iron Horse is really strict with their guidelines and very clean. I felt very comfortable and the food was spectacular. They seemed short staffed (I only saw the same 3 serversbut you couldn’t tell! Thanks for an amazing evening, wi definitely be back soon
This has always been my favorite place to eat. I literally recommend it to everyone. I ordered today in particular to support local businesses during this time. The man on the phone was pretty short and not friendly. He told me my total was $35. My husband showed up to pay and the total was over $44. He even tipped $6 on top of being over charged. I am highly disappointed for the lack of honesty and won’t back to this establishment, nor will I be recommending to anyone else.
I’ve been here 3 times now. Food is average at best. However, they do have great ranch dressing. Prices on some things are a bit outrageous. Beer is good with a decent atmosphere. Waitstaff is friendly. Not recommended if you’re not going to have a beer. There’s better food options than this...
My daughter introduced me to Iron Horse Tavern about a year ago. It has become my favorite place to eat in Morgantown. When she first suggested we go, I told her “I’m not a fan of pub food”. I’m glad I tried it anyway, because this is a completely different dining experience. Exceptional options. Review the menu for yourself. You will be pleasantly surprised. The food is always flavorful and fresh. The service (for a college townfar exceeds other restaurants in the area. This is worth the brief exit right off I-79 if you are traveling through. Don’t skip this Morgantown gem!!!!
First of all, I was not impressed with the waitstaff. Drinks where empty long before a refill was offered. The Host was amazing tho 🙂. The food was nothing special. Overall impression is that I am never going back.
Had Chris as our server. He was totally amazing. I highly recommend having him as a server. Tonights visit was for the High Ground Brewery event. The beer and food was amazing. But definitely the service stood out.
Great food!! Portabella Florentine was amazing. Service was top notch too. Highly recommend this establishment to anyone in the area. Worth the drive too! Love that they support local brewerys too.
The Green Eggs and Ham Burger was amazing. The fries were perfectly done. A small detail of grill toasting the bun made it better than perfection. The service was great. Glasses never went more than half empty and were checked on several times during our visit. A great variety of craft made beers from many breweries from around the area. I am excited for our next visit.
Bar service was a lil slow but no big deal. Good local beer options. It also has a pretty unique menu. I like that they offer vegetarian options.
I stopped in for a quick bite to eat while out on a business trip and damn, I didnt expect it to be so delicious. I had the "Dixie Chicken" sandwich with their homemade potato chips, and it was wonderful. Sadly, being on the clock, I was unable to sample any of the various local brews, but Ill be sure to rectify that the next time Im in Motown for pleasure.
If you are a Paleo eater, you may think the menu is rough. BUT they are very accommodating. The gluten free bun was the best I have ever had out. The chili has no beans was just spicy enough. The burger was outstanding. They made me a side of cauliflower that was huge and prepared exactly as I asked. The prices are very good, especially considering what must be a high rent location. Definitely recommend a visit.
I liked how many vegetarian options there were and atmosphere was really good. A lot of beer choices and selections, server was nice and helpful. Definitely recommend for everyone.
We go to iron horse about once a month and the food and service is always outstanding. However, Alexandria, our server, did both an outstanding job at waiting on us and making sure we were happy with everything. We could see she was busy and had a large section and she still made sure everything was exquisite, kudos to you Alexandria, we may ask for you again.
Great food and atmosphere! The shrimp and grits flavor were delish! My husband got the burger and Mac n cheese it was all good! Keep it up! #eatlocal
The University Town Center location:The food was amazing! It was flavorful without being pretentious. The wait staff was friendly and perfectly attentive. I never ran out of water and I drink easily 5-6 glasses with every meal. The cocktails were wonderfully mixed and the beer was crisp and clean tasting. We left full (with leftovers), happy, and extremely blown away how breathtaking the entire experience was. Thank you!
Good beer. They didnt have any dark beers available when we went which was disappointing. The food is great. They have a fantastic kids menu. Its reasonable priced and has healthy options.
Terrible service. Server with frown on face entire time. Had to ask for things twice. Food overly salted. Cocktails too sweet. All of the employees we encountered looked annoyed to be there and annoyed to be taking care of customers. Other customers near us looked unhappy too.
The food here was excellent, the staff was perfect, and the atmosphere was very relaxing. I got the after hours burger and house fries with a root beer float, and absolutely everything was perfect down to the burger buns and dipping sauces for the house fries. The servings are very generous, but it is pretty expensive.
The food was good. A little overpriced. The service could be a tab more attentive .
Nice atmosphere, good decor, friendly employees, took a little bit longer than I thought it shouldve to receive our food. But it was really good. I left full and my belly was happy. I will go there again.
First time visiting this restaurant, I thought it was very good! The tator tot appetizer was very tasty, and they make a good Reuben! They also have a nice variety of craft beers on tap. I hope I get to make a return trip soon.
The new location is fantastic. Iron Horse always has amazing food and beer selection. My best advice would be to look at the specials when you come in. That is your best choice for food to try.I think Iron Horse arguably has the best burgers in town. There are no wrong choices on the that portion of the menu either.
Best burgers in town!!! Great atmosphere and very unique menu selections....AND THE SUNDAY BRUNCH IS AMAZING!!!! Always have the best wv craft brews on draft and the staff is super friendly. These cocktail menu and whiskey selection is extensive and the bartenders are very knowledgeable. Do yourself a favor and stop in!!! One of Morgantown/Granvilles best!!!
So the food and beer are usually exceptional, but the waiting staff is awful. They consistently have new people. Someone usually drops glass or a plate. Be prepared to place your order with your drinks.
Food was as good as the one downtown, which is to say that we liked the food but its not destination cuisine. The service was great. The atmosphere is lacking. It is definitely in a strip center. This was a new build out, they could have done soooo much to the space and didnt.
It was a rainy night and I popped over from my hotel because I didnt want to drive anymore. First let me say, I have never visited the Iron Horse before this, but I will definitely return when I am in Morgantown. I had the Brussels sprouts appetizer and the Iron Horse Burger. All of the food was cooked perfectly and had great taste! The staff are very friendly and took care of everyone with a smile and speedy service.
When one pays $9.25 for a salad that they could make it home for about $3 they expect it to be up to quality standards. I got the chicken cobb salad my chicken was burnt and the bacon was very close to being that way. Very sad. In addition our server was not very good
Their food is AMAZING! I get the bulgoga pork sandwich with chips. The chips will be the best you have ever tasted. I dont know if they are made in-house or not, but if they get it from another source I wish I knew where that place was. The sandwich has a good helping of kimchi on top of it, which is a spicy cabbage for those who are unfamiliar. I would also recommend ordering a side of ranch dressing to dip the sandwich and the chips into. The 4 star is because we ordered a cheesecake and it didnt come with all that it was supposed to come with, the peppermint bark, which I was kind of excited about, and the waiter forgot to mention that they were out of it and we still had to pay full price for it, which wouldnt have been so bad but it was $6.25 and the slice was pretty skimpy. But other than that our server was very helpful.
Wonderful staff especially Nancy! Food is delicious and the new location is absolutely beautiful. I would recommend their drunken mussels. I will be stopping in again tonight for ladies night specials. My new favorite place to eat and drink!
We loved our Sunday lunch at the new location. The space is much quieter than the downtown location. Service was great, and we didn’t wait long to be seated or to get our food, which was really good. We look forward to coming back!
Usually dont post reviews but the new Iron Horse Tavern really misses the mark. We ordered sandwiches and waited 1.5 hours with the place at half capacity. I had to walk to the kitchen to get my own water refill. Iron Horse downtown has always been great but with a second location they have bitten off more than they can chew. Just avoid this location and go to the downtown location.
