Iron Horse Tavern in Morgantown
Description
Have been coming here since they opened. Went to get food tonight and was expecting this small restaurant business to support other small businesses via menu printing. However, they had no paper menus and wanted us to scan for a menu. I asked the waiter/bartender his thoughts on the patrons having no options/Iron Horse no longer patronizing a designer/printer and was very snidely replied with “DO YOU WANT YOUR FOOD OR NOT!?”. To which I replied no and walked out. Morgantown needs and thrives on true small businesses supporting one another and I do not use my smart phone on evenings and weekends, and therefore sincerely needed a paper menu. Unfortunately Iron Horse is in it to make a quick buck and no more. Fortunately their food was subpar anyway, so I won’t miss them terribly. Oh well.
MoreThe bulgogi tacos were a bit greasy, but ultimately very satisfying. The tomato bisque was astounding, however.
MoreThird time being here and it is very good. Our server mark was kind and enthusiastic. That’s hard to get nowadays and i appreciate that. I recommend the chips and queso! Never fails.
MoreVisiting from florida. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the drinks were perfection 🥰 💞 shoutout to our server Liz for being awesome!
MoreWe were fortunate to have been seated at the last seat for 2, but waited almost an hour for a chicken sandwich and a chicken salad to come out. Watched at least 5 parties after us refuse to wait 45 minutes for a seat. Fryer grease needs changed as the chicken had a weird taste to it. Hardly any chicken was on the sandwich, and the chicken on my wifes salad was overdone and cold.
MoreThere were 5 of us for dinner before a show at Metropolitan Theater. Meals came out for 3 people and we were told a tray was deopped and the other two meals would be out shortly. The 2 meals didnt arrive until the others were done with their food and one of the meals came out without the vegetable. Our waiter didnt come back until we were finished with our meal. We told him about the vegetable and he said he could box it to go! What a joke! No apologies or discount for food that never arrived!
MoreTruly a gem of a food experience! Delicious offerings and great selection of craft beer. Good service, gracious staff.
MoreStopped for lunch on our way to Bardstown KY and we sat at the bar... it was so good! The bartender, Austin, was so friendly and efficient! If I ever make it back to these parts, I will come back!
MoreDO NOT GO TO BRUNCH!!Let me preface by saying I love dinner here and recommend it. Brunch was disappointing. Service was slow and barely checked on us (yes they were busy, but they also had plenty of time to chat at the bar). When we spoke to them, they said the kitchen was backed up, but when our food arrived, the plate was warmer than the food and my poached egg was cooked through meaning the food had been sitting. Wont be back for brunch
MoreAbsolutely loved the wild mushroom pierogi. Easily one of the best dishes in Morgantown
MoreBest fries of any restaurant Ive been to. Food is excellent. Great environment.
This is by no means a 5-star restaurant but for what it is I give it 5-stars. I got the grilled hot wings (see picand they were excellent. The atmosphere was typical for a university town restaurant.
MoreGreat food and drinks in downtown area on High St across from Hotel Morgan. Homemade chips are delish. Can’t wait to try brunch here.
MoreI was really excited to order here. When I first came in, we couldn’t get any help/greet and waited for a bit. After a while, a blonde server looked at us then turned around on her phone and walked into the back. It wasn’t even busy at the time. Then there was another employee that peered their head passed the wall and just looked at us and went back. A simple “i’ll be will be with you in a moment would’ve been nice”. I just got a bad first impression, and left after being ignored for a good bit . It’s a shame because I heard good things about this place :/.
MoreWhere do I start our server Dylan wasnt good at all once he brought you a drink your in the dessert forget about getting a refill my wife ordered a beer when he brought our check said do you still want it?,then went on to say I assume you 2 are together?,he needs more than just serious retraining what kind of a thing is that to say anyone.homemade perogis were great buffalo cauliflower was swimming in hot sauce the fried perogis didnt taste homemade over all we wouldnt go back
MoreTook almost 2 hours to get food and they werent even busy. Cocktail was terrible and nobody in our party ate the bread from their sandwich because it was too hard and unchewable. Way overpriced
MoreGreat friendly staff and service. Appetizers and entrees were okay excellent.
Had the chicken cordon bleu sandwich with truffle fries. Was excellent!
Great place. The ambience is excellent. The beer selection is awesome. And the menu offers you a lot of choices. I enjoyed my visit. The employees there were very friendly. Convenient location. HIghly recommended!
MoreService was spot on and the food was amazing! Make sure to get the buckwheat donut holes-theyre a dream! Well definitely be back!
MoreI wish that I could give this place zero stars. Do NOT waste your time or money here. We ordered $300 worth of food for a large party and not even half of it was edible. The service was also horrendous and don’t even think about asking to speak to a manager. When I assured our server it wasn’t because of him, he responded with “I don’t really care if it is, so.” The manager went through the motions of apologizing and then laughed as she walked away. However, she did remove some of the meals from our bill. I was appalled at the behavior and their lack of concern for customer satisfaction. Avoid this place at all cost!
MoreStopped in for lunch and was not disappointed! Very good BLT with Fried Green Tomato!
MoreStopped in for a couple of appetizers and drinks! The perigees are amazing and so is the cauliflower! Service was outstanding! Thank you so much! We are from Michigan but if we get back around this way I would definitely stop back!
MoreFood was just ok. Perogies were ok nothing special. The kelibasa was probably the worst tasting sausage Ive ever had. You can grill a ballpark frank and it would taste way better than that. Decent craft beer selection.
MoreGood service, great food, easy going atmosphere. 10/10 would recommend! Will def come back to eat here if ever in the area again :)
MoreUsed to frequent here more often. Food has been sub-par as of recent. On my latest brunch trip, my eggs were crunchy and the chicken was a little too well done. Potatoes were also dry. The atmosphere is great to go with friends for lunch/brunch.
MoreDelicious wild mushroom pierogi dish. Great selection of craft beers. Service and host were both great as well on a busy Saturday night. We will be back!
MoreI have always enjoyed the Iron Horse and like supporting local restaurants and bars, but Im not sure I will give my patronage again after yesterdays experience. As I was out for drinks with my wife, sister-in-law, and an out-of-town friend who we hadnt seen in over 20 drinks, we decided to take our friend there for a drink. There was no one to greet and seat us when we got there so we sat at one of the tables near the bar. After no waitress showed up after 15 minutes, I went to the bar to order the drinks. After waiting another 15 minutes, I was told by the incredibly rude bartender that he would need to know for whom all the drinks were. I could understand being asked this if I was a 20 something kid, but Im a gray-haired nearly 60 year old. He proceeded to ask if we had a waitress and I told him honestly that we just sat down. His reply to this was that we needed to get someone to seat us. After this, we went across the street to the Hotel Morgan bar and were treated quite well. I was much happier to have given them my money.
MoreWell rated tavern, we were there for dinner and the food was very good. Scratch made elements across our 3 plates, and distinct sauces to highlight each entree. Parking (paidis around the block, in back. Good staff.
MoreI come in here every once in a while for some drinks and some good food. The menu is pretty accessible to vegetarians and their selection of craft beers hasn’t been anything but great. The bartender, Raven, has been one of the nicest service people I’ve ever met. Definitely suggest
MoreGreat coffee and pancake with chocolate chip! Very delicious food! Eggs taste good with pepper but little wet inside. Staff are friendly and understanding how busy they are.
MoreFun atmosphere, great local beer, and pretty good food! We were looking for a quick bite and made a last second decision to go to Iron Horse for the first time and everyone was impressed. We will definitely be going back!
MoreFinally got a chance to stop in, and pretty much felt right at home. Got a lager and the Iron Horse burger with fries... it sure hit the spot!!! Stop in... you wont be disappointed. All aboard!
MoreMade our first trip here recently while doing a college visit. In a predominantly college town it can be difficult to find a "normal" bar/restaurant but this one was a diamond in the rough. They have several beers on tap, including many local ones. I had a "Surf WV" IPA that was amazing. The food was also incredible. The whole wings with the lime sriracha sauce were to die for, and the sides were all hot and fresh. It was one of those places where you want to order one of everything. I cant wait to go back in the future!
MoreRecently Ive realized that when you go out to eat you dont get to say "darn, that was really good". That wasnt the case for Iron Horse. I went in looking forward to a hamburger and was not disappointed. I ordered the iron horse burger with Mac n cheese and it was phenomenal to the point where it easily stood out from other local eateries. Looking over the menu their choice of ingredients add such a robust flavor. In addition our waitress was above and beyond. Kudos to you iron horse.
MoreI only had a flight, so I cant rate the food. But the West Virginia breed were great. Not cheap, but worth it.
MoreStopped here for Sunday brunch. Started with Blood Mary’s, which were very good. We ordered the Colonel Eggs Benedict, and Chicken and waffles. Menu says Belgium waffles but they were fairly hard and thin.
MoreNot a ton of vegan options, but there are more than most other places in the area. The drinks were good. The Appalachian Trail was very tasty
MoreLoved the atmosphere here. The food was amazing! Friendly staff. Good selection of local beers and they offer flights. Their dipping sauces are homemade and are delicious. Great place to go.
MoreAmazing food! Always delicious and I try something new every time! Highly recommend!
MoreLoved eating here! Great, relaxing atmosphere. My server was excellent and they gave me (a solo dineras much attention as all of their larger tables. The fried pierogies are chefs kiss and my steak was cooked perfectly. Yummy cocktails too! Would definitely visit again!
MoreWow. Beer options were great and they have Pierogis! If you havent tried pierogis you should try these! The Pierogis Ruskies is highly recommended! What a gem to find in Morgantown!
MoreAbsolutely stellar!! I recommend the parmesan-crusted macaroni and cheese (for the main courseand the New York cheesecake (for the dessert).
MoreGreat night eating dinner outside. Yintzer steak salad - French fries, blue cheese, steak, egg and lettuce is super yummy! Burgers were a hit with the kids and my husband had the Dixie Chicken sandwich that is one of his all time favorites.
MoreWe stopped in to the Iron Horse Tavern while in Morgantown for New Student Orientation. It is a cute restaurant that serves small plates, salads, local beer and cocktails. The atmosphere is great, suitable for a date night or a night out with family. Service was also great. The reason for losing a star was because the food was just ok. We were disappointed in the brussel sprouts, which we normally love. We enjoyed their selection of local beer and inventive cocktail menu.
MoreTried it for the first time, I gotta say I was thoroughly impressed. Great and unique flavors on the mixed drinks, apps, and food.
MoreI was nervous because some reviews said slow service, easy to find. Service was quick and friendly. Cool atmosphere. Cider and Pilsner a good pick. Iron house burger with poblano pepper amazing! Chips good but get cold quick. Chicken Caesar ok, but uninspired. Meat very thin and dry.
MoreThe beetroot salad was the star today 👌🏽 tasty and well balanced ingredients. We also had the tuna salad that was good, 3 cheese Mac n 🧀, and the chicken tenders were all surprisingly good. I’ll definitely have to come back to try the burger #Yeswaa
MoreOutstanding food, friendly staff and great prices. Ate there on a Monday night - trivia night. Crowd grew significantly between 6 and 7 and the place was pretty full. Local beers are a feature, and there were plenty to choose from. Diverse menu made it difficult to choose. The Bulgogi pulled pork with Kimchee slaw was excellent. We stayed another hour to help a group of locals on their trivia team. Fun night!
MoreFood fantastic: choices include everything from exotic to comfort and always delicious.Atmosphere: nice, mix of rustic wood and style. Not quite.Service: friendly, great help with menu suggestions.BUT...As a born-n-rised Morgantonian, Im always rooting for the success of my local business. I hope the owners/ managers see this comment so they can work on this:On multiple occasions my party has arrived to find the front packed with waiting customers looking upon a half empty restaurant- multiple TABLES OPEN, tables UN-BUSSED. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth to be told theres a 30 min wait while watching dead table space. This is usually around 6:00pm. Perhaps the restaurant needs more staff for this rush hour. I dont know. But thats lost revenue for the business and frustration for customers who think about going elsewhere "next time."Bottom line: Ill keep going back for great food, not for fast service.
