A nice museum with exhibitions showing the history of Lisburn and also everything related to linen manufacturing starting from the flax plant and ending with the finished products, with live demonstrations by knowledgeable and friendly staff. Free admissions and well worth a visit with your family.
Great time with my granddaughter seeing santa yesterday
Informative and friendly staff, fascinating tour of the displays, thoroughly enjoyed the practical demonstration of spinning and the yarn that came with it!👍
The demonstrations of spinning and weaving were interesting and informative by knowledgeable museum staff.
Grandkids loved it & staff were very helpful & friendly
Visited Irish linen centre and museum in Lisburn while visiting family in N. Ireland. All covid restrictions in place. Very interesting visit and informative staff. Would recommend.
Took toddler her for an activity morning and he really enjoyed it. Staff were very helpful and the actual museum was interesting too
Private tour of the exhibitions and the tour guide Ciaran we excellent. Great knowledge of all the exhibits and local interest helped tie the pieces together.Shall definitely be back to have another look.
Well presented displays with detailed history of the Linen industry . Of Particular interest to those with a craft and design background
At first we thought it was a bit limited; but the more rooms we explored, the more interesting it became. The live spinning and weaving demonstrations were especially fascinating.Definitely worth a visit.A great way to spend a rainy afternoon.A little tea room might be a worthwhile addition.
Has a large gift shop and upstairs theres the digital archives that have videos of life in Lisburn, and Ireland as a whole, from 1898.
It a great museum and all staff were friendly and informative . Small gift shop as soon as you enter and different levels offer different viewpoints through time. Also there is a kids area if you are taking little ones. Very little parking out front so I suggest going to the car park about 4 mins walking distance away.
Great place to view various items of InterestÌ went with a class a few years ago nowWe crafted nice wind chimes.I was on a tour another time which memories were made offDemonstration re weaving and SpinningÌ was a weaver during the 70s at Ulster Weaving company.
Great unsung place to visit for all ages!Staff are particularly informed and make this a place which is a must visit on the local scene - and its free!
Great place for a visit when in Lisburn very well presented and we met a lovely girl called Alison who’s knowledge was amazing, and very pleasant to speak to . Most enjoyable experience
Amazing, lovely staff, great atmosphere, great information and they let me spin flax for a hour whilst chatting to them without a care in the world.
Wonderful museum, went for the Linen Centre but also enjoyed the other exhibits. Learned a great deal about the history of Irish Linen. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly!
It was a real interesting visit. We were giving a chance to spin some linen yarn, see how jacquard cards were punched to create a damask pattern and how the weaving machine worked. It was furthermore put into the economic context of Ireland in these times, our host being a really knowledgeable historian and answering patiently to all our questions. If you visit Belfast, take some time to visit the Linen museum in Lisburn. It is easy to reach by train. However, if one is not fluent in English, the experience will be diminished as there are no written explanation in any languages.
Very nice place to walk around. The history of linen is fascinating and seeing the looms and finished product is really something
Watching the loom go and seeing the proto-computer card loom was awesome! And its FREE! :D
Very interesting staff spend time to explain things worth a visit
Wonderful experience, the staff are very knowledge about the whole flax - linen business. Having live spinners and weavers adds to the experience. Definitely recommend this museum.
Fantastic insight to the history of the linen making trade. Very helpful staff. Exhibition well laid out
I was pleasantly surprised by the museums exhibit on the history of lisburn. Staff were helpful and friendly and they were also very insightful. Great place for anyone wanting to get a glimpse of what lisburn and the surrounding industry from 1800s onward..
Very well kept tradition of linen making from flax. Ready made and demonstation. Modern facilities and in the centre of town.
Great for a browse of lisburn history and the old days toilets and coffee and a shop come and see for yourselves
Absolutely beautiful stunning tree and decorations in Lisburn
Love this place for its history it also has a cafe for a bite to eat friendly staff always around
This is a very well laid out Lisburn Irish Linen Cultural Center and Museum and is certainly well worth a visit.
Shame this used to be a lovely shopping area and place of interest. The stock in the shop has really reduced and content was poor. Historical info basic, such a shame as its a lovely building. Needs a rethink.
Interesting experience with friendly and informative and skilful guides using original spinning and weaving equipment
Excellent centre to visit in Northern Ireland approximately 12miles from from belfast International & Belfast City Airports. Full of the working history ie linen looms, its just magic, guide staff 5 star and very pleasant nothing was a bother, and a bonus within 60 seconds of a very beautiful Cathedral. Ill be back SOON
Great exhibitions. Both were well presented and very interesting. Shame there were no postcards of the building or the linen exhibits. We had chosen tovisit thelinen exhibition especially.
As a group we took the tour very interesting, the tour guide was very good at explaining how it all worked, worth taken the tour
Purchased lovely full suit and shoes at great price. Great shop will definitely be back
Wheelchair accessible entrances on both sides, accessible only parking available on street. Elevator for access to upper floors. Public use accessible toilet available during open hours.
Really interesting local museum with great exhibits and friendly, knowledgeable staff
Well worth seeing, lots of local history and great gift shop. Staff are very friendly.
An institution and landmark in the centre of Lisburn for years, whilst the actual museum is probably much more entertaining for people who have no knowledge of Lisburn or the industrial background of Ulster, its still worth a visit if youve never been. The cafe is pretty good, with various bakes and food available to enjoy whilst looking down Bow Street.
Not wildly exciting but it was interesting to see the history of linen and the process of converting flax into fabric. We were fortuitously there when a school group was doing a guided tour and demonstration so tagged along with them. The demo on the flax gave me a new appreciation for the process to produce the linen clothes I enjoy wearing.
Fabulous experience. We spent nearly 2 hours wandering around. We had a very in depth and fun explanation of the whole linen making experience from Virginia - she was amazing and full of information.
Well worth a visit at this museum. One can s lively see how linen is made from flack seed.
