Jamaican eatery whipping up ample plates of jerk chicken, curried goat & oxtail, morning till night.
Food is good but I would recommend NOT having a menu item in mind before ordering. They almost never offer all the items on the menu. This is the second time I’ve visited and tonight I choose they would not get my business. I will take the extra drive to Mamas. Tip for the owner: a digital menu so your customers don’t have to wait in a 20min line to find out you have no mac and cheese ect.
I went here for the first time and was highly disappointed in the Oxtails. I expected the meat to fall off the bone instead I was scared I was going to crack a tooth trying to pull the meat off the bone. The oxtails were tough and not tender at all I felt like I was in a fight but the oxtails won. I didn’t enjoy my meal very disappointed. I went out my way from work to try this place and it wasn’t worth the drive. The service was good they get you out fast that is the only positive thing I can say.
This place used to be the spot!!! But the last few time I have been here it’s being awful and awful, they pile on a lot of damn rice to make up for the meats not tasting good . The oxtail’ not good the bbq chicken’ not good curry chicken not good . Not sure if they have change owners or what . But the food is damn sure not authentic. But the price are off the charts, I will try other spots….
Ordered a cake yesterday went to eat it and it had mold on it
Food is ok they are just rude as hell! Makes you never want to come back
DEAD FLY IN MY FOOD!!!! I hate to leave a bad review on this place because they actually have really good Jamaican food. But I will forever be disgusted. I ordered a large plate with curry chicken, rice & beans and cabbage. I was 3/4 done with my food when I uncovered a dead fly mixed into the curry sauce. I’m extremely disappointed. At the fact a fly was in my food, plus the fact that I had eaten most of the food before I realized it and because I will never be able to eat here again. Check your food folks. Enjoy!
I spent way too much money for a small goat plate that had more bone then meat, after waiting 2 hrs to be served. They literally forgot my order and tried to lie about it.Smfh , I thought they would’ve gave me a refund, discount or a free drink for bad customer service, but no integrity was shown.I will never go back to Irie nation, Thank God we have we have a new Jamaican spot on the Plaza rd and Fairmarket Plaza , with good food better prices, less wait time, and let me not forget to mention the first original cook of Irie Nations. You can thank me later if you’re reading this.
The last time i will pay 25.00 for oxtails. Treated my neighbor, my sister and myself one night and ended up with bones and fat. Not worth it!! That was 86.00!
I was excited to order a couple of plates after reading the reviews but it was such a disappointment for me. This was the first time I went to a Jamaican spot and one of the sides automatically had to be rice and peas. What if I do not like rice?? I did see why because the rice and peas took up mostly everything else on the plate. The oxtail plate was sad, maybe because I had better Jamaican food. I wanted to like this place. In my opinion, the food tasted like someone cooked some food at the house but not good enough to sell at a restaurant and receive the high reviews posted. Unfortunately, the food was thrown away. It was not bad, just not good to me and I was disappointed with basically paying for a plate that you can only choose one side because the other side is automatic to fill the plate.
Picked up dinner from Irie nation on August 5th 2022. I found out about this Jamaican restaurant through word of mouth about 5 months ago. So Ive been going at least once every 2 weeks. But on 5 Aug the food was awful. The oxtails didnt have broth gravy is normally uses. It was nasty. The mac and cheese was Velveeta style on the bottom, melted cheese on the top to make it look like traditional mac and cheese. So youre trying to hide and deceive your customers. cutting corners - making a horrible product. And lastly the collard greens were not fresh. Must have been cooked -Frozen defrosted and served to the customers. Yall are just as bad as tropical goodies. I left them cause They dont value their customers. I used to couldnt wait to treat myself to a meal from your restaurant. But yall disappointed me. Yall need to go back to the drawing board. I will not be giving you all my 40 and 50 dollars no more. for you to do the bare minimum for me. Purely annoyed
This place is a peaceful walk around the corner from Amtrak Station. They were busy, but the service made up for it. Thank you.
I use to love their food but the quality has diminished. Stew chicken is super spicy to the point I couldnt eat my food. The prices have increase and the portions have decrease. When I tried to express my dissatisfaction the customer service was non existence. I will not be returning to this establishment ever again
Customer service was terrible. The cashier whoever the guy with the fro was is really rude. Customer services is important if you didn’t know. Even if the food is ok, lack of respect and character to customers will drive them away. He also lied about them not having jerk chicken pasta. Sir y’all only been open for an hour and y’all are out. Stop the lies. Other then that, the food is hot and delicious.I literally ate my food in 4 minutes or less. However, I did try the macaroni and wasn’t so good but all the other food overall makes up for it. Not everything will be perfect but it did lack a lot of flavor in the Mac- N-cheese as well.
I have notice a small change in the food .the jerk chicken wasnt spicy the food was cold. Customer service needs to improve. The mac and cheese was to hard So many people standing and hanging around not to covid safe.
The one on S Tryon has a young girl working in there that doesn’t know about portion size…2nd time she made my food and it was close to empty…2 little newborn baby pieces of chicken! N Tryon would never.,.neither would any other Jamaican restaurant!
This place has to be paying people to leave good reviews. This is the worst Jamaican food I have eaten before in my life. I am devastated because I love Jamaican food. This restaurant is awful. Please do not eat here. I ordered the curry goat. It was so spicy that you cannot taste anything and it felt like I was eating rubber. It was so chewy I almost choked. I cannot even explain the oxtails but i will try. It was like trying to eat plastic food covered in sauce or something. I couldnt even bite into it. I have never eaten any kind of meat that was that tough. I warn anyone to never eat at this place. Do not waste your time or money. The mac n cheese was not cooked. The cheese was not melted on top and it was so bland i couldnt believe that this was jamician food. This is my first review I have written. Believe me it is that bad that I felt that it was my responsibility to make sure no one eats here. I couldnt sleep at night knowing I did not warn the next person. That meat is so tough it could kill someone.
Oxtail were tender. For $28 not enough oxtail. Big issue, I know Jamaicans brown meet in sugar, but too much in the oxtail. They were good but too sweet after half way through I felt sick.
The beans and rice are always cold. The servings are okay and the prices are decent. The Mac and Cheese was old and crusted and the carrot cake was just awful. The carrot cake was a six dollar slice of garbage, dry bland and just a waste. The service is okay and the music was to loud and raunchy. Ive eaten at this place four times and on June the 14th was the last time that I probably will.
I was super excited until I tasted my ox tails. They tasted like they were cooked in bbq sauce. Tell me who on earth eats sweet oxtails. A 30$ plate ruined. First time should be the charm in this case it was horrible. I was super psyched up and then I took the first bite ……………
I love love this place I was a bit concerned about some of the reviews but then I heard some of my staffs recommending here ,the food is good staffs are nice just the wait time is about long but they accept prepaid orders online.
I’ll never come here Again I came here for memorial day weekend and this is the second time there was hair in my food and the staff acted it was my fault and have me smaller portions than had before it I could give 0 I would island Cuisine and Lawerence is better please save your money and never coke here the lady at the front tried to argue with me about the hair in the food saying everyone has hair tied up and I know it’s not mine I have braids and my hair is curly. 🤦🏾♀️
The food tasted good. The curry goat was a little too spicy for me and could have been a little more tender. The cabbage had a lot of garlic in it. Hubby had ox tails and they were good. Service is not the best, long lines and wait times. Orders not completed in order they were taken. People were sitting on the ground out front when we pulled up.
Food was good long line long wait. If you can stomach all that. Get the food. I must say even though these were the conditions staff seem to want to still serve and was pleasant.
had the best collards of my life, best jerk chicken Ive ever had, and Im shamelessly asking for a discount on the oxtail when I uber eat it tomorrow hahaha. legit. this place is fantastic. look out for my order tomorrow hahaha
Food is amazing!!! Great portions and prices! They fill you up every time, it’s so full of flavor
SO delicious. The seasoning is absolutely amazing. Everything was delicious! We had the jerk chicken and curry chicken. Wonderful
Ok.... I am very pleased with the potion and quality of food! I am very picky with my West Indian & Jamaican food here in Charlotte. Mainly because of every spot in Charlotte isnt authentic & not cooked right over all! Ive narrowed my choice of Jamaican food to 1 specific spot in Charlotte I will eat at over the many Ive tried. I was very skeptical about trying a new restaurant again due to all the disappointing spots Ive tried thus far! But I decided to give This one a try due to some of the reviews Ive seen in the past few months. I am soooooooo glad I did! I ordered quite a bit of food today (5/16/2022in order to sample to quality and taste and truly see if it is worth eating here again! BABYYYYY!!! Let me tell you! This is definitely my absolute favorite now... it actually knocked my other spot to my #2 place now! I ordered the stew chicken, rice & peas, cabbage, collard greens, candied yams, sweet plantains & a chicken patty with coco bread. Absolutely NOTHING disappointed! Impeccable taste! The only issue I had was my coco bread was missing from my order! Definitely a MUST try!!!!
If I’m going to pay $26.00 for a large oxtail with rice and peas, I expect exactly what I received! Side of Mac was exceptional. It had the perfect crust and everything was oh-so flavorful. As a Caribbean woman, I am very pleased and will definitely take the trip back!!
I was looking for a new favorite spot and this wasn’t it. Came here first time with a friend, we shared an order the oxtail, rice and peas, 1 beef patty with plantains and coco bread, total for one meal was 35 dollars. When asking the worker which dish is most popular, her response was “everything goes quickly” for who is the question. The meal was very sugary, overpriced. glad we didn’t get two separate meals. There was only one fork in the bag and when I asked for a another fork, I can see the reluctancy on her face, strike number three. The ambiance was dark and dank, nothing to rave about. cloudy mirrors, the tables and chairs were haphazardly out of place and unclean. I give honest reviews and this was very disappointing. Eat at your own risk, we will never come back to this place again.
I always get brown stew chicken rice peas and cabbage and it is amazing mouthwatering and you add the extra gravy to your rice OMG it is so good it reminds me of back home in New Jersey best Jamaican restaurant hands-down I haven’t found one close to this one as of yet also I love the Coco bread and I recently tried the shrimp stirfry it’s spicy and I’m not too keen on spicy food but it’s so good the shrimp are a very nice size they’re not all small and the prices are reasonable and I love how they give you enough food they’re not stingy with the food I definitely recommend! Small cute atmosphere I like how you can eat out in a back it’s is very little but it’s cute and pretty intimate! There is a few times where you will have to wait because the lines are so long and sometimes they do run out of food however it’s worth the wait:)
The food is good but the service is horrible. I saw Chrissy a worker there scold a customer for entering the restaurant just a few minutes after they were technically closed, all the while there dozens of patrons inside still, doors were unlocked and the restaurant was fully lit with many people inside still. I watched her talk & fraternize with guests as did her male coworker. Smh they tell you to support black businesses and that’s exactly where they treat you the worst. Learn some professionalism, tf. It’s really sad
The food is great, got some oxtail and all the sides in the snack boxes and was very satisfied. The rice, oxtail, and baked macaroni has a perfect slight sweetness that wraps the entire meal together.
Large portions of good food. The brown stew chicken is delicious. Take it to go, but get there early. They ran out of collard greens, patties, and fried plantain half hour before close. Yes, it is that good. It was worth the Lyft ride to get there and back from Uptown Charlotte.
Awful experience!!!! I heard good things from two of my co-workers so I decided to try. The jerk chicken could of been good if it was cooked. The jerk chicken was raw. Then they forgot my greens. We also had a large oxtail which I would hate to see what the small looks like. The amount you get is not worth the money you pay. Oh and no yams with my oxtail which I paid extra for.The little bit of oxtail however was good so that’s why I gave them a star. I called back to let them know they forgot my collard greens and yams, Chrissy advised she could do nothing unless I wanted to drive all the way back, a 30 minute drive for me. Awful!I will never return!
This was my 1st time here and the food was GREAT! I had the oxtails, greens, peas & rice. As you can see you get alot of "bang for your buck" I heard the Mac & cheese is good too, but I will get that next time! I give them a B+!!! Go check em out!
Cleaned the skin off that curry chicken!!!...best Jamaican food in Charlotte! Im from Baltimore and finally found a place worth visiting more than once!! They were outta oxtails but ifykyk you are supposed to go early cause once its gone..its gone...which means the food is fresh!! Will be back again...early this time!
The food was good they were out of plantains though I had brown stew chicken rice and peas and macaroni the macaroni was definitely hitting. The wait really wasnt that bad considering how busy they were. The customer service wasnt the worst. Im from Brooklyn so Im used to a certain vibe anyway I was never offended or felt any kind of way. Portions are generous.
We Visited as soon as they opened & everything was Hot, Fresh & very Delicious. We will definitely be returning when we come to town. Jerk chicken, rice & peas & collard greens were delicious
Really Really Good I got the brown stewed chicken rice n beans with mac n cheese everything was hot and fresh my husband got the curry chicken rice n beans and collard greens his was also delicious. We ate outside on the patio with music playing good food and good vibe will definitely be returning
Stew Chicken n Rice and Peas. A Side of Mac n cheese with sweet fried plantains. The food was alright. Mac n cheese was 6 out of 10.
My first visit the food was so good I had to return! The stew chicken is amazing! The mac n cheese is delicious and the rice n peas with gravy is over the top. So glad I was introduced to this spot.😁Next platter was the sweet chili salmon. It smelled good and looked good. The plate was a little "lite" for $18.🤔 I feel like they should add a little more to it. My 13yo demolished it in no time.😮I will definitely revisit again.BTW, it was packed in there. They managed the orders pretty well. No social distancing observed.🧐 But everyone had on a mask.😷We ate on the outside patio to avoid the crowd. Only thing missing was some music.
Im vegetarian, so I usually get a vegetable plate with cabbage, yams, plantains, and mac n cheese. None of their vegetables are seasoned with meat. The food is always hot and tasty, the service is good.
I dont know what happened to this place but it has fallen off badly. The oxtails have no flavor and super tough. Sauce is light brown. Mac and cheese 🧀, no flavor. The rice 🍚 over cooked . Not what it used to be. Sad
I’ve gone to Irie Nation a few times now and loved it each time. Pictured is the large curry chicken. Very generous portions and the meat is so tender. My girlfriend’s mother is from Jamaica, and Irie Nation is the first establishment that’s gotten her seal of approval. I’ll be going back again and again. It’s very affordable, especially for the amount of food you get.
The Lady with the red and black braids was extremely rude, at the front while my mother and I were ordering. A guy was in the window talking to another female with black braids and they asked her why she was talking like that. I will make sure to post my review everywhere. You never know who the person is walking into your establishment. I will be sure to post this on my blog that has over 1mil followers.
I got here around 1130am on a Sunday. Food was fresh and service was quick. The wait for my food wasnt bad at all and the service was good. The jerk chicken was good. The meat was very tender. The rice was good with the extra gravy and the Mac and Cheese was delightful. The portions were generous. It was still a solid offering. This restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. I will definitely be back.
This place when I got here was getting slammed (plenty people and phone orders). I had to wait for about at least 15/20 minutes which I dont mind. If the food is good it is definitely worth the wait however, my chicken was old and stringy. The food was flavorful Mac and cheese, rice and peas and the gravy the chicken was in was full of ginger. I have an issue spending $13 on food when my main is inedible. They must have ran out of chicken in the stewed gravy and took left overs from the fridge and tried to simmer it into the fresh stewed. Didnt work. Disappointed.
Orderd a small Oxtail with plantains no complaints regarding the visit. No dumplings on Sundays though. Food was prepared quickly. Will return again!!!!!!!
Food taste authentic, like new york jamaican food. Collard greens are bangin, and the chicken patty taste amazing when its fresh (the bread melts in my mouth). My only complaint is theyre stingy with their oxtail meat and it seems like sometimes theres more oxtail fat than meat on the bone.
I had the curry shrimp, mac and cheese...It was banging! Loved the rice and beans and the mac n cheese was really good. shrimp was great! However the lady that took my order had "I dont feel like working today" attitude. The guy there was super nice and friendly. So I gave it a 4. If she wasnt there I wouldve put 5......customer service is EVERYTHING!
