Iraqi Museum in Al Kut

An outstanding experience it was for me to explore the Iraqi National Museum, one of the most beautiful collections i’ve seen in any museum and very near to my heart as it shows the civilizations of my country.The museum consists of many halls, each belongs to a specific period of history, from Early human age, Babylonian, Assyrian, Pre-Islamic period, Islamic Period, Hatra and etc.., the Sumerian hall is closed for maintenance.The museum itself isn’t that much, and it needs an overall modern rework to present the great civilizations of Iraq in a better way, that’s the least they can ever do to appreciate the civilizations of our ancestors.The Assyrian hall was the best by far, and i can just imagine what a huge Iraqi museum that has all the belongings of our civilizations showcased in it, that’s a dream that i’m willing to work on in my future, because even though the museum is relatively humble compared to other museums around the other, yet it will take your breath with the amazing artifacts it has from the greatest civilizations of our world.I highly encourage everyone to visit this museum and experience what i experienced, it’s so much worth it and i guarantee this for you.

The Iraqi National Museum or the Iraqi Museum or the Baghdad Museum or the Iraqi Museum in Baghdad[1] is an ancient archaeological and historical museum, located in Al-Alawi District, Baghdad, Iraq. It displays collections and artifacts of the civilizations of Mesopotamia, as well as Islamic antiquities in Iraq, and antiquities of the Stone Ages. It is considered one of the oldest, most important and largest museums in Iraq, and it comes in second place after the Egyptian Museum, in terms of establishment, and it is no less important in terms of the historical value of the antiquities that represent Iraqs civilization and history.[1] The date of its establishment dates back to 1923-1924, when it was collected The British archaeologist, Gertrude Bell, archaeologists of Iraq and placed them in a small space in the Al-Saraya or Al-Qishla building, and in 1926, due to the collection of many antiquities and the lack of space, another building was opened in Al-Mamoun Street and all the antiquities were transferred to it, and Mrs. Gertrude Bell was appointed director of the museum. And in 1966, as a result of space constraints, the Iraqi government decided to build a museum that fits the specifications of international museums and is in a suitable place.

I wasnt imaging the huge number of artifacts in this museum and how beautiful and splendid it is, which made me feel migneficent happiness and great pride. I advise anyone to visit this place to see how the ancient civilizations that were found on this land made history.

What an incredible place, surpassed my expectations. The staff that work in this museum were so kind, approachable and well informed. I believe the museum needs further investment it has more potential. They should open a museum shop and a cafe. Some of the museum item descriptions could have been worded in better English and provided better information.

Pokud budete někdy v Bagdádu tak sem určitě musíte zajít. Je to čerstvě otevřené po rekonstrukci, zatím bohužel ne kompletně. Velkou část sbírek se už nikdy nepodaří dohledat, ale přesto to stojí za návštěvu, i když nejste úplně zapálení do starověkých civilizací.

Unfortunately, the museums working hours are not enough to complete the tour.

If you havent seen these civilizations yet, you should!The artifacts are wonderful and you can really feel the value and intelligence of the ancient man!I hope the officials will work to organize the place more and pay attention to the decorations, also working to restore the remaining pieces that were smuggled out of Iraq after the 2003 war.

The outside was nice with some interesting elements like statues and old war instruments, inside of the museum at the time I visited was close for a weird reason, Actually many touristic places in Iraq country maybe close for no reason on no meaningful reason at the official day time.
