Anthropology museum with indoor exhibits in a colonial building & an open-air village exhibition.
Free museum, pretty nice with sculptures and paintings in the garden
Good
There are many such places which I like to visit. During my childhood I remember we used to visit lots of Parks & other places during my vacations but a place which is very close to my heart is a temple on the top of a hill. The name of the temple is “Tin Jhanda” meaning three flags. The temple is situated in the top of the hill which has 250 stairs. I used to visit there with my mother. That place always provides peace & happiness to my heart. The temple is dedicated to lord Shiva. The idol there is so beautiful. It has both the faces of Lord Shiva & Mata Parvati. The idol looks so heavenly. The silence & the serenity of the temple is the thing I liked the most. The view of the entire city from the top of the hill is so beautiful. The Three flags are always there in every weather. Be it heavy rain or storm, it does not fall highlighting the power of the temple. People from faraway places come to worship the temple. This temple will always a hold a very special place in my heart.
Nice museum, Good collection of Karnataka folklore information. One must visit this place this.
Better
If you have lots of time to waste .. choose this museum for 20-30 minutes . For exploring some ancient instruments and Indias olden culture
A good anthropological museum. Includes artifacts related to cultures from all parts of india
Very poor exhibits. Not worth the time
Very informative place ,u can see all kind of articles, paintings and crafts which belongs to North eastern region of India. This museum had a collection of handicrafts and idols of North eastern region. Entry is free. Anyone can visit and take ur children around museum they will feel so happy.
Good museum,Friendly staff , I wish the museum gets more fund for maintenance! Backyard is not maintained well, burrows are found everywhere, many art works are perishing as they are kept outside directly under sunlight and rain without any protectionFree entranceFree parkingTaking pictures allowed(without touching the collection)Good place to shop for paintings, antique metal decorsPainting workshops are done frequently (details will be advertised in Local Newspapers)No crowd
Museum in Mysore
Great place to visit near Bus Stand
Indian cultural museum
The indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangharalaya is a museum that exhibits to an extent the various tribes of India and thier cultural artificial and tradition. The entry to the museum is free and visitors can experience it in the wellington lodge another marvellous colonial structure which has a great history in itself. Also there is a contemporary art gallery on the top floor!
One of the art galleries in Mysuru.Artworks are good. But maintenance is not so good.If you are in touring Mysore for more than 2 days (because there are many other important places than thisand interested in artworks then this place must be in your list of places to visit.
Not so many exhibitsPoorly managedArts galary has no significant paintingsTerracotta figurine collections are poorly displayedI dont know why govt is wasting money on this museum2 star goes to staff members & the welcoming smile on their facesAm very sorry for this kinda discouraging reviewI GOT FREE ENTRY on Monday as it was holidayI felt bad that i could not buy ticket & give such disappointed review
It is a government-run museum. It needs to be revamped and maintained well.
The staff gave vary good information and they are supportive....
Collection is quite good but whats the use if the staff is so sleepy. Somehow, the staff are from Kerala and dont help a visitor by any means. Typical government setup and the employees seem to be disinterested. They art programs for everyone but the facilities are a big deterrent. It can be so much better but can only happen if employees support it.
Simple and superb..
A great museum of history and arts
This government museum is also called The Willington House. It is located 50 meters away from the suburban bus station. The location can be more specified by saying that it is on beginning of the Irwin road going to the railway station. The museum is situated in a sprawling garden filled with statues of artists from different states of India. The entrance is free of cost. There are paintings from north eastern India and Bhutan inside the museum. Some of the textile designs and statues are very exceptional. The building is period and small. It will take only 20 minutes to see the entire museum. The small road opposite the museum is called Keshava Iyengar Road and dormitories are available in that location for as low as Rs.170 a day.
Nicee
This 200 year old house is worth cng, clean and silent museum, free entry
Terracotta of Chhattisgarh in MYSURU
Good museum with ancient writing scripts and collections related to janapada are fine and mind-blowing
Nice..
The mueseum was somehow good but the maintenence here is awesome . The place needs to be somehow improved as the samplings presented here are very less and the place is full of colourful paintings of the past of the freedom fighters of india. This is quite big and is full of peace . There are less no. Statues of india during the time of british india. The is place is also named on the name of the indian prime minsiter MRS. Indra Gandhi who was a great leader drun british india. She also helped in the independence of india and to a new and free india. The muesuem is good and the price of the tickets here is very less and affordable. If you stay in mysore once you should visit this place , and also has some topics on the religion .The people who work here are very casual minded and just sit idle whole day. Please do vist once here.Thank youKeep exploring.
This museum has many pieces of art made by tribal people including nomadic.
Lifestyle and the materials used by Nomadic people can be seen
Excellent...Short and Sweet
Wellington House is an heritage building on Irwin Road .It is a museum having artefacts terracotta figurines from various stated if India , photographs of various tribes their dressing habits with descriptions on their food habits dressing location etc .It also houses a museum which exhibits paintings ,Monday happens to be a weekly off day and it open between 10.30 and 6.00 pm Tuesday to Sunday with no lunch break .Visiting this museum was an enriching experience and one can visualize how diverse our country is .A must see .
In order to understand the journey of humans from the caves to technology, the museum gives a brief about it. Monthly exhibition throws light on culture of India
Central location, polite staff, cleanliness, informative and what not!!!
Only go for seeing kings MOU and notes
Nice experience but staff out there are clueless regarding the items on display on enquiry they refer to HQs at Bhopal. The shop at the museum can display their wares more attractively.
It was really an amazing experience .
When I visited this place it was under renewation.
A must visit place to know the heritage of the city. Former Wellington House is the present museum. The first floor of the house is art gallery and the ground floor is museum. The museum of the ground floor remain close on Mondays.
Its a place where you can see all of Karnatakas glory in its culture and handicrafts, but it is poorly maintained, which is sad on the part of the tourism ministry. But, otherwise, a must stop for people doing a heritage walk around the city.
Was closed for renovation (02 Dec 2017)
Good place.. Kept clan and very useful
A must see place. When i went there was an exhibition of musical instruments and the knowledge I gained was too good. The displays keep changing from time to time.
Absolutely superb collection of folk instruments - and open to all without any discriminatory / xenophobic pricing scheme charging foreigners unjust entry prices. A winner - should be seen by all!
Wonderful tribal n very good workshops
NYC place with art and craft
Good museium worth to visit
Small museum of Indian culture. Nice selection of carvings and interesting temporary exhibitions. Historic building that was the home of the Duke of Wellington.
Average can give a miss in time constraints. The department can do a better job in retaining more tourists by upgrading and making it more attractive
This so called museum and art gallery is an absolute disgrace and waste of an important building in Mysorian heritage. The art gallery holds damaged and decaying art works plus what can only be described as primitive childlike art.The Museum of Mankind is anything but, with a few sculptures, baskets, knives and the occasional implement on display.Definitely on the do not waste five minutes here list.
