Indian Painted Rocks Trailhead - Hiking area in Spokane, United States
Great place with super old native painting, great for hiking
This place is garbage. All plant life mostly brown and dead, air is very dry, cant get close to water/streams, cant bring your dog with you unless you want a $100 ticket. This place is trash.
No doggos allowed.
It was probably amazing. No dogs (leashed or unleashedare allowed. I hike with my dog so, I am only giving these trails 3 stars.
It was alright just would be better with diving boards
This little gym is usually pretty busy ...I would suggest packing water ..and a stick.. and a camera.
Very popular trail head.
This is not an easy hike, there are several places where you have to climb over large rocks, not easy.
A beauteous Marsh alongside some ancient rocks. Nice little trailhead between the wetland and some recent Forest burn. Great area for bird watching and letting kids play on the rocks.
This place is cool and theres lots of hiking trails open
My favorite hike close to Spokane. Lots of varied terrain, a nice 7.5 miles. Beautiful views!
Awesome hike with great views. Did the Knothead trail, pretty strenuous 7 miles. Good parking with outhouse. Discovery pass required.
Its beautiful!
Its a nice park. Nice long walking trail. More trash than youd like see kinda ruined the enjoyment. The major upside is that Ive seen more and more different kinds of wildlife here than any of the other parks.
Great hike. We did not do the whole loop as we were running out if daylight and did not have our headlamps. But we still did about 5 miles. It was a fun hike. There are some hills to walk up but nothing too strenous. It really comes down to how in shape a person is.
No dogs allowed, and no sign that says the fine is $100 ticket. Would have been nice to know.
Beautiful trailhead close to Spokane. Its like a whole different world out there. Completely quiet.
Beautiful scenery to look at while waiting for roadside assistance for my flat tire. 🤷♀️
Was brushing out along the trail and clearing out noxious weeds. A large moose was spotted near the takeout for kayak and floaters. Great area!
Great nature walk but beware - we hiked in early September and saw SIX snakes (3 of them were big rattlers).
Beautiful trails for a nice, moderate hike! Watch where youre walking though...we almost stepped on a rattlesnake in the middle of the trail.
Its a good out and back hike. Nothing over special, but a nice place to take an afternoon walk. The paintings were a bit underwhelming, but cool to see. There was a lot of various wild flowers growing and we enjoyed see them too. We did see a small amount of posion ivy in the trails, but easy to avoid and not much.
I was quite delighted with the trail. We combined knothead trail with painted rocks trail so it was longer.
Peaceful hiking. Petroglyphs. Birding hot spot. Love it.
Nice place to hike or kayak. So beautiful
The trail is beautiful and an easy hike. Please be careful not to leave any valuables in your car. Unfortunately I stashed my purse under my back seat a few weeks ago on a Monday afternoon around 3:45 and when I returned an hour later my back window was broken and my purse was gone. When I filed a police report I was told this is a common place for break-ins. When I arrived there were 4-5 other cars in the parking lot and assumed there were other people hiking. The police told me they were probably people just waiting to see if they could identify a car with valuables to steal. Please be aware!
Had a great time hiking there!
One of my familys favorite hiking, kayaking, and nature interaction sites for over 15 years. No dogs allowed means we get to see more wildlife. Great spots for wading and playing in the water, writing in a journal, reading a book. However, the area recently is in need of serious trail upkeep. Beware of snakes, always bring walking stick a d water bottle, and first aid. And a hiking partner!
This is a beautiful float...
A wonderful place for a hike. Great scenery. A little buggy at times. Need a discovery pass for parking.
ook a relaxing drift down the Little Spokane in our kayaks. Easy and accessible for all ages but you must pay attention to the currents and foliage on shores. Deep enough so as we didnt have to portage anywhere along from St Georges School put in to Nine Mile take out. Plenty of wildlife including birds, turtles and fish. No traffic noise despite being close to town. Not crowded and everyone was friendly and respectful of the peace and environment. Cant wait to go again!
Great place for a mild hike next to the river with some inclines. I forgot to take pictures and will be updating this in the future
Great trail with kids... whole family loves visiting here... beautiful wildflowers and always can spot a deer too.. In fact I took a bunch of maternity photos here with my daughter. They turned out beautifully!
There are some trees down on the path currently, so be prepared to climb just a little bit.
Our first time and we were impressed.
Beautiful Winter hike
Beautiful in all four seasons, fun for the whole family!
Ive hiked here since I was a kid. Excellent beginner hike but not good for the elderly as there is a tiny bit of extremely light rock crawling/climbing
Pretty busy and no dogs allowed. Didnt know this until I drove out here and saw the sign. And you need a pass to park. No thanks!
A decent trail and river put in. Dusty trailhead, but what’s new? There is a small restroom for the whole parking lot, a beautiful tree alley, leading to the river. The painted rocks are not much of a sight.
Beautiful, absolutely gorgeous. The trail is easy for even the lil hikers. This is a place I often take my kids to hike without safety concerns. When hiking by myself I prefer to go off trail and go straight up. You can watch a beautiful sunset from the higher elevations or enjoy the riverside down below. Check it out if you hike or bike!
We are Co-Authors; Spokane is our hometown, we enjoy the great outdoors, and exploring our State (PARKS), and hiking along the Indian Painted Rocks Trail. Quick hike for Boy Scouts. The river side is pretty flat and has Vista points with QR code linked to websites. The other way is slightly more strenuous and passes through fire damaged area which is interesting. Nice family area.
This is a nice hike not far from Spokane. There are nice views of the river for half of the hike. The other half is on the backside in a draw. There is plenty of sun on this hike so be prepared for that. Parking fills up on the weekend. Kayakers use the same parking lot.
Bring bug spray! Theres only one rock with Indian paintings. Pretty sights and pretty flat for the most part.
A favorite place for hiking near Spokane. Little Spokane is nearby for kayaking. Good hills and lots of wildlife to see. About 8 miles of hiking and a view point in the middle. Unfortunately there were fires in this area in the recent past that is requiring tree removal. Still a great hike.
Pretty sure i was going to die! Lol! This really is amazing trail even for young kids! There are several gentle sloping hills and only one pretty big one. I just need to get out there more! :-It was the PERFECT Mothers Day hike!
Pretty view and good place to hike during the day!
Narrow Trails, sometimes the brush scrapes both sides of your legs at the same time. You need a discover pass for this? It used to be paid for by taxes, the way I think it should be.The parking lot is usually full though, so people like this place. Theres a place to launch rafts and canoes I heard.
Painted Rocks is a great place to go hiking. Be sure to get there early, since there is only about 20-25 parking spaces. Its peaceful and relaxing.
