Nieuwmarkt 4, 1012 CR Amsterdam, Netherlands, Zeewolde
Grand 1488 city gate houses this relaxed, candle-lit restaurant with terrace, serving hearty dishes.
Very tasty food (and beerin lovely, historic surroundings. The croquets are really delicious.
Bad service, bad food, and expensive! The waiter was rude, the drinks were delayed. Amsterdam has much better options.
Very slow service, worst we have had in Amsterdam. Staff were not helpful, trying to get someone to take our order and then try and find someone to pay was ridiculous. Only had drinks so cant comment on food.
Good food at a high price. But sadly the opening hours are not correct. Went there for a breakfast at 11. We have been send back, because they open at 12.
Stopped for an afternoon drink and Bitterballen. Lovely peaceful atmosphere. Love the mood of the place.
Worst cappuccino ever …They forgot to change the filter twice kind of taste (no coffee taste at all).Tja, a good location but bad coffee.
Nice interior with a chilled vibe. Also can host a big group of people. Food is however just average and didnt appear to me of high quality. Might have been my meal but that was my experience after tasting the burger there. Also quite pricy.
Great Whitefish Dish served with their special sauce and couscous. Really enjoyed it and satisfied. The venues castle-like ambiance can be great at night too. Service can be better as I think they are understaffed.
Great menu! Beautiful place! But i never actually got to eat as i was ignored for 20 minutes while the waiter chatted to the ladies on the next table. He even watched me get up and leave. So lovely place to go if you just want to sit there.
Very good restaurant with nice product and the team is very sympathic in a so historical and amazing place please the potatoes salad with salmon
Starter - Pomodori soup was excellent!Main course - The Halibut lacked sauce and was more like a boiled fish fillet with traces of sauce.Dessert was decent
Beautiful cafe/restaurant in a historical place. Nice terrace and good food. Little dirty feeling outdoor tables and dirty looking menu cards.
Classic place. Doesn’t look like restaurant from distance. Amazing interior. Wide variety in delicious food. Very friendly staff. Loved the ambiance.
The Waag was built around 1500 as a weighing house for commodities traded in the trading houses surrounding the Nieuwmarkt. Through the years the function has changed and now it functions as a restaurant and coffee house. It is a very cozy place especially on market days. The food and drinks (also alcoholicare reflecting Dutch taste and is very well prepared. Prices are moderate and service is good. There is very little parking in the area. Lots of tourist there.
It used to be the best patio with best food around even as 6 months ago, but now the food is beyond terrible 🤮 Hope the management can fix this place soon
Lovely place in the middle of everything,Perfect for a romantic meal.surprisingly fast service considering that they were very busy.Food came out presented beautifully and still hot,A bit pricey but definitely worth it.I’d love to come back one day
We stayed in Amsterdam and visited Waag on the evening of our 30th Anniversary. Whitley and the team treated us fantastically. We had the most wonderful meal (Cote De Boeufand it was excellent. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I cannot recommend this restaurant more highly. Thank you Whitley!
Each month I have a company dinner at In de Waag. They are pricey but it is worth it. The food is excelent. The staff is professional (GIVE THEM A RAISEand the location is beautiful and interesting for someone who never been before here. Definitely will continue coming. It is also the only place in the center of Amsterdam that can host over 15 people at once. Thank God you exist!
We both felt the portions were a bit stingy and the tiny bun was dry. Rest was tasty. Dirty toilets
Good place for a casual group meal in a unique building. Food is decent, but uncomplicated with flatbread, mussels, steak and fries.
Beautiful building. The food and service was great too. Definitely a place to visit while in the area.
Very good.Nice location, nice building, nice food.
The menu is great and delicious. The wine selection is not that good but the beer is fine. Service is good. Worth it when visiting Amsterdam.
Very cool old style Restaurant. We just had a drink and we liked the atmosphere with pretty much candles all over the big hall.
The Restaurant has a lot of potential. Unfortunately it is not used very well. The tables are very close to each other. It take very long until someone is arriving with the menu. The staff is friendly but not trained very well. They do not know the menu and they cannot recommend wine. We had one apatizer with olives butter and bread which was quite good. The steak tartare as starter came not mixed but with everything separate on the plate which is not much of an effort for the kitchen. I would rather have it mixed already but that is personal. The fish and the burger as main were ok... But again nothing super special. The espresso martini was amazing. Huge plus there. But the mille feullie was not available anymore. So instead of coming back to us for asking if we want something else. They decided to create something different withing a baught dry dough and some strawberries. We sent it back and they removed it from the bill without any trouble. But still this is not how it should be. Service needs to be improved and kitchen is rather basic. Nothing special.
Always full, you need to wait to be seated. Staff Professional and fast.Bar order come very fast, food order comes longer beacouse a lot of orders.Location is very good in the centre!Building of restorant looks like a castle inside and outside. My recomendations to visit 👍
Love the ambience of this restaurant, classic… servers and foods I totally enjoyed.
Nice location, great food, very friendly service:)
The food was good, the steak was nicely done. The house wine is ok, but if you look for something great choose a brand wine. The service was regular. Make reservation, is much better. And easy to do, as they have it inbuilt on their website.
Amazing place. Not cheap but the food is sublime. Recommend the Dutch Stew with mushrooms. A fantastic last meal in Amsterdam. Highly recommended.
A historic place (former Gate to the city, then market place, followed by a Museumwith character. Lots of staff as a cafe and restaurant. A fixed menu that is presented well and timed well. So it is good the kitchen is in order. The house wines were a bit bland, not even worth using vivino for it... And the food could have had a bit more flavours and taste. Also I was a bit surprised to have gotten the beetroot salad with cous cous as a starter, and then cous cous for the main dish... Have they got a bit too much cous cous? None the less, the kitchen is accommodating for dietary requirements. The interior amazing. They use candles for light to keep the natural ambience. Definitely worth the visit.
Beautiful and good atmosphere. We went for the High Wine & High Beer. The combination of food and wine was delicious. Don’t mistake it for a dinner portion, it really is more like a snack. Great surroundings and terrace if the sun is shining!
Wonderful restaurant for dinner or a relaxing tea time. Great for a date night or with friends. The staff is super friendly and the food is delicious. They have a wide range of dishes and drinks. The deco is very cozy and the atmosphere is lovely. They even apologised for the inconvenience of only having one toilet.
Nice place for a coffee or snack. Cafe has good Options. Nice history too.
Sunday street market on the Nieuwmarkt square during Summer from May to the end of October. Any day De Waag, a medieval building, now a restaurant. Nice area in the centre of Amsterdam.
Lovely food, beer and wine selection here in a great little spot, and a beautiful building. Good for a place to meet as a group of friends or family. Large tables, friendly and helpful service. Food was good quality and value.
Only had drinks and appetizers, but it was wonderful! Just to enjoy the inside of this 15th Century building was amazing!
We had an amazing experience at this place. It is situated right in the middle of a market and very hard to miss being such a big castle :-Ambience inside was lively with candles lit all over the place.Food was awesome and the starters are definitely recommended. The service was very good and the staff really helped even though it was peak time. Definitely worth the visit!!
It is an amazing historical building. The food is great too! We had Christmas dinner there. It is stunning.
Best coffee and stoop waffle for that quick "pick me up". The place has good food, ample space to sit outside or inside and an incredible history. The staff is very friendly and accommodating.
I love it. Nice location and a very tasty meals
Location awesome, service overloaded but super nice, food great (steak was a little chewy)
Oke food. Building ofcourse is outstanding. Hystorical place for Amsterdam, a real nice setting for private dining like we did. Good service.
Delicious bread platter and good choice of drinks. Very rustic, cosy and chilled interior. Friendly staff and short waits for food/drinks following service.
I mean, its a restaurant in a small castle! What else could you ask for? They have good coffee, good beer, great food! We just arrived in Amsterdam and they had brunch type food at 3.00 or so, which was great. Waitress was also very pleasant even though they were busy.
Beautiful historic building in a great location. Food was tasty and service friendly
I was there for a beer and a snack. Got some good beer, and a simple snack of cheese and olives. Not much choice. Service was OK, on the slow side. Surprising given the place was empty. Its a nice environment for a beer or coffee.
The food is spectacular! In such a cool and unique location, I was a little worried about how the food would be, but trust me and other reviews, this place is a must when in Amsterdam, and that’s without even discussing how cool the building is. Eating here is definitely an experience, come a little later in the night and eat inside, you will be happy you did, the building is such a unique treat.
Epic local food, amazing decor, worth the visit, and cheap !
Very good Dutch food the service was great.. located in the central area with lots of stuff to see around. we came by without a reservation but they still found us a table which was great. Crispy pork belly was very tasty
