Il Latini - Italian restaurant in Florence, Italy
We were able to get a table for two for dinner by stepping in earlier the same day. The restaurant was full twice the same night, and it is late september. The tasting menu was simple trattoria spirit food, but so delicious. And the amount if food was overwhelming! Service was good too. Experience I will definitely remember!
This is one of the greatest restaurants in Florence if not Italy. The Bistecca Fiorentina was sensational, as were the accompanying roast potatoes. The wine list was huge and we found an amazing bottle from 1999 which pleased our son who was with us as thats the year he was born. The staff were incredible, decanting our wine, nothing was too much trouble. The Isele e Olena 1999 Vin Santo with the Pannacotta was sublime. Its not cheap, and you have to book, but wow, what a place.
Adoriamo questo ristorante! (We ADORE this traditional Tuscan restaurant. This is our second time eating here after visiting a couple of years ago. Recommend the family style to sample their menu and enjoy the simplicity of Tuscan cuisine. Come hungry and be a meat lover! My favorite is the penne with meat sauce — it tastes just like my nonna made it. Get the T-bone steak it’s prepared perfectly and pairs well with some red wine. Can’t leave here without homemade cantucci paired with vin santo and tiramisu. *chef’s kiss* 👩🏻🍳 They serve lunch on Saturdays. It’s best to get there early if you don’t have a reservation. Fills up quickly and it’s a local favorite place.
We sat down at the same time as 10+ other tables. While waiting for the server we tried the bread on the table, which was stale and gross. The wine and food took a while to come out, and everything was mediocre. The chicken was dry and the pasta dishes were very underwhelming. Nice ambience and decor but service and food is bad. Avoid if possible.
Average restaurant and a bit pricey to what it offers. The T-bone steak was disappointing, compared to other places. Potatoes were quite oily, bruschetas were a bit meh.
Fantastic Fiorentina steak, beautiful grilled vegetables, wonderful roasted potatoes combined with incredible bread and wine topped only by perfect service. We are already planning our next visit. Would highly recommend!!!
Great Tuscan food! Got the 1.3 kg Bistecca alla Fiorentina to share with my friend and we were both absolutely stuffed at the end. Polite, friendly service, and the 10 euro bottle of house wine is a great deal and we regretted not getting another bottle. Charcuterie and cheeses are a must have as well. Pricey but worth it - will come back for special occasions when in Florence. Reservation recommended - easily done via email or phoning in.
Good restorant, very attentive service. One star missing because of red vine served at room temperature ~23-25°C (that day was very hot).
Outstanding dinner! Our server was incredibleWe didn’t make reservations but they thankfully got us a table!Very large restaurant but definitely more of a locals spot !!!Try the brunello di montacino wine with their T-Bone with side of potatoes!!!Also if you’re celiac or gluten free they are very knowledgeable!
Was not the first time in the resraurant. The sreak was amazing as always. Usually after dinner they brought a digestif: Amaro and cantuccini. Unfortunately this tradition has disappeared.
Amazing food and service. My second time here. I asked for a recommendation for myself and three grandsons. We chose the family style, multiple courses of delicious food. The desserts were amazing.
Bad, slow service, which pays attention to large tables first and ignores small parties; besides the long waiting time, we could not even talk as they had us sitting in a room with three loud, big parties. When we asked the lady to give us a different sit in another room the lady, now the owner with her husband, grandaughter of the old Latini, daughter of one of the two brothers who worked with the old man, well, she said we had to stay were we were as she was short in staff and what an attitude! I am a florentine, Ive eaten at that restaurant for over thirty years and Ive seen many changes, I am afraid not in positive since the death of the old Latini and since the two brothers, Giovanni and Torello, set apart. The place was not the same any longer, nevertheless I would never think it would reach such a bad level, never more! I am glad Giovanni opened Osteria di Giovanni, where you eat well, the service is good and they have great attentions for their customers!
Great restaurant for Florence/Tuscany style food. Plan to arrive early and line up or have reservations in advance. They were not super quick/efficient, but it was more of a relaxed multi-course meal where each table might see 1-2 parties before they close. All total, we lined up around 7pm and left very satisfied at around 9:30pm. Chicken was my favorite: amazingly moist with fresh veggies and a vinegar pan sauce. We also had many other side dishes and a pasta, which were all very good too. Lastly, highly recommend their house wines: red was fruity and white was very smooth.
Lovely staff, great location and amazing food! Plenty of options and really tasty!
Wonderful traditional Florentine restaurant featuring regional specialities. But beware of the portion sizes when ordering the beef!
We love this osteria! It is huge (indoor and outdoor seating, various roomsthus accommodates large groups. The food is always incredibly delicious and the amount is fair! Their meat selection is amazing and reflects true Tuscan cuisine! There are wonderful dishes for vegetarians too (soups, fried vegetables- I particularly love the fried artichokes-). We recommend making reservations. Non delude mai! Buonissimo!
Lets start with the good things - very good and friendly service and a good choice of wine. Then why 3 stars? The menu is limited (and focused on meat), and theres little care of details. Bread is left on the tables, drying up. I never was served olive oil to have with the bread. Maybe not an Italian tradition? And the food was quite basic in my opinion. The Tuscan crostati was 3 slices of toasted white bread topped with nothing very exciting. The pork ribs were impressive in appearance but not very moist and not especially tasty. The baked potatoes were a bit cold and soggy. I can make them better. Finally the red wine came at room temperature, meaning at least 25 degrees. I had to ask for a bucket of ice so that I could taste a 35 euro half bottle of Brunello decently. I was truly disappointed.
Recommended to us by a local and its one of very few places in Florence that offers a true Florentine Steak. It was fantastic, waiter was great with his recommendations and really made us feel like locals
Should not be on the Michelin guidePasta Penne stuck together, white beans just boiled (not home styleand roasted Pork overdone.Terrible ambience and lighting. The table service and recommendations were woeful - overheard very bad advice to elderly couple. My advice go somewhere else - there are lots of place nearby
I’m late writing this review as it was 7 years ago… but the experience we had was fantastic. We had wondered into a random leather shop and asked where to get a good Florentine steak. She said her brother worked at Il Latini and have us directions. When we arrived the line was in the street but while we waited the owner came out to us and gave us some small snacks (Biscotti and liquor). We had to dip it a little longer to help remove the sins of the day …lol). When we were taken in, we all went (our party of 4, another party of Israeli medical students, and Fabio and 7 of his lady friendsand walked through various small rooms until we came to the room where each party was seated at their own table. We ordered the full meal which was about 50 euros but had to tell them to skip a few of the courses as we started getting full on the appetizers, salads and such. The prosciutto wrapped cantaloupe was delicious. When the steak arrived we shared it and it was all excellent… even though many think it’s under cooked, it’s flavor is wonderful. Hope you all visit and have as great experience we did many years ago. Oh.. and the table wine was tasty and seemed to never run out.
Ok.. now this is one of the best meat dishes we have ever tasted. Really juicy and well cooked. Potatoes were excellent as was the pasta. The onion dish, which is cooked under ashes, was something we had never tried before but would definitely do so again. After returning to our base I’ve been trying to find the recipe online without any luck so if anyone from the restaurant see this, could you please lay a hand over here? 😁 Tiramisu was just ok but it doesn’t really matter, we didn’t go there for the desert. The atmosphere of the place is very homey and warmth. Personnel was extra polite and helpful. Prices are a bit to high but we came to the understanding that all restaurants offering Bistecca in Florence have these prices, give or take. Five stars is the only suitable rate in this case. Thank you for the meal you offered us.
AMAZING!!!! Traditional food with so much flavour. Portion sizes are generous, the wine delicious, the olive oil with bite and the staff are first class. If youre in the area I highy recommend this restaurant.
The food was honestly terrible quality, especially for the price they charge. Ordered a steak with mushrooms, and the steak arrived cut up into multiple pieces strewn across the plate - it looked more like meat scraps than a steak. The temperature of the steak was cold and the meat was grisly. I had to leave most of it. Awful. Expected much better.
One of the best eating experiences in my life. (And I eat a lot). The server was a great entertainer and the food was amazing. Would highly recommend the house wine and would highly recommend the T-bone steak. Cannot leave Florence without trying this place one time.
Excellent Tuscan food. Great food at reasonable prices
This is a can’t miss restaurant in Florence. The food is incredible. We got a 1kg steak and it was some of the best I’ve ever had. The service is top tier. Everything was cooked to perfection. I strongly recommend checking this place out but be sure to get a reservation ahead of time because they are very busy.
We truly loved our experience and we were treated so well. This is a great family run restaurant where Dog’s are very welcomed, so much that our Dog was offered his very own menu! He very happily devoured his selected meal, as did we. This place is a must, the food is authentic and delicious and the service is fantastic. Truly recommend making a reservation as they offer to seatings, 730pm & 930pm.
In reality, we would give Il Latini 4.5 stars. We were very excited about the meal, practically already knowing what we wanted when we got there. To start, my boyfriend had the ribollita and I had the Paccheri with wild boar. I had a glass of the house white wine. Then we split the enormous T-bone steak Florentine and some roasted vegetables! It was good but definitely not the best steak weve ever had. We also tried the tiramisu and the chocolate Panna Cotta. It was also great--just not amazing! Our server was friendly, helpful, and direct. However, it felt a little like a tourist attraction since nearly everyone seated around us spoke English.
I wish there was a 6 star review because this place would absolutely be my highest reviewed experience of all time. From the moment you walk through the door, you know you are in for a special evening. Upon entering you can see the chefs preparing steaks and other items over a wood fire grill. The aroma hangs in the air and is just heavenly. There were cured hams hanging from the ceiling, books on shelves, wine placed above everything. Ambiance for days. We were seated and met our server, Ronald. Easily the best server we had on an 11 day trip through Italy. Funny, attentive, etc. He even gave us hugs after dinner! The wine list was exceptional, and Ronald was well versed in what to expect from the selections. As for the food....holy Hannah. We knew why we were there: the bistecca fiorentina. We didnt want to fill up on too much before the steak, so our friends ordered some of the ham, and my wife and I got the tomato and bread soup. The soup was delicious and our friends let us try the ham...savory and melted in the mouth like butter. We ordered our steaks, Ronald made sure to tell us the steaks only come rare. We all jokingly told him: "It better be rare!" He told us the size they had that evening was 1.5 Kg. Our concierge at the hotel told us to be authentic, it needed to be at least 1Kg. So we knew we were good. When they arrived with the steak my wife and I were sharing, our eyes damn near bulged out of our head. It was massive and serviced with just a little bit of salt. "No way we are eating all this." , my wife proclaimed. She was dead wrong. We ate everything, as did our friends who were also sharing a steak. 3+ pounds of steak consumed and my wife and I were still craving more. She jokingly said that if she didnt think people would scoff at her for lack of etiquette shed absolutely be gnawing on the bone! I have never eaten aged beef before (minimum 40 days and I dont know that I can ever eat another steak that hasnt been aged. The fat around the edges peeled off and was crispy. It was like a cross between chicharrones and bacon. Every bite of the steak was like a different experience. One side was strip and the other filet of course, but the way its cooked created so many different flavor profiles its indescribable. A little more char in one spot, a little less in others. Some buttery fat with a bite, some crispy fat with another and then just a lean beautiful piece of meat in some bites. Absolutely divine. After our meal we asked to see the owner. He had left for the evening and instead the proprietors lovely daughter visited with us. You could see she was concerned that something may have been wrong. We immediately told her how amazing the meal was and she passionately described the process, the history, etc. At one point it seemed she was close to tears, and you could tell this family poured every ounce of their love for their craft into the business. I implore you, do not miss out on this experience while visiting Florence. To do so would be an incredible disservice to yourself. Just...amazing.
Excellent food, sublime service, great sensitivity for dogs, not only allowed, theyre warmly welcomed with a specific menu! The quality of ingredients is top 5 stars! Thank you very much, well surely be back 😊
We made a reservation at 7:30, when they open. When we got there, there was already a large crowd waiting outside, but everyone was seated quickly. We went with the €60 option for both of us, which seems to be the best way to go. Its basically The highlights of their menu, and unlimited wine.Unlimited wine. We ended up going through 2.5 bottles when the night was over. The meats and cheeses they start with are delicious, they really know how to properly select and pair meats. The pasta wasnt the best we had but still very good. The steaks were absolutely amazing however. Some of the best steaks Ive ever had and well worth the price.
This little Italian restaurant close by the river Arno is a fantastic spot. Their food is amazing and at a decent price. Portions are on the bigger side and brought out very quickly. The staff is super friendly and accommodating , and their house wine is delicious. Make reservations ahead of time if possible, since it gets packed very quickly. Any of their fresh pasta or meat is always a good choice.
Good place for traditional Florentine food. Steak florentine was superb here, done just right and not too expensive. Some good charcuterie too. Worth your time and money.
We dined here on our last night in Florence. The food is excellent and you can notice everything is made in the house. We started with two local dishes; the pappa al pomodoro and the ribollita which I recommend trying if visiting this restaurant. For the secondi piatti we had the penne al bolognese and oven baked rabbit with spices and gravy (you’ll be needing lots of bread to wipe up the plate 🍞🥖 🤤). Both dishes were excellent and tasty.Don’t forget to order the house wine which will cost you only 10€ for a bottle 🍷 To finish the meal they will offer you on the house the Vinsanto and cantuccini to dunk in which are a local tradition 🍪 The ambience is so classic italian and the hosts very nice. They let you take tour time to eat and don’t rush you through your dishes. If you’re spending a couple of nights in Florence I really recommend visiting this restaurant and surely you won’t be disappointed.
The food was good but not the best we had in Florence. Had a reservation for 7pm and arrived to a crowd of people at the door (mix of walk ups and reservationsbeing let in one at a time, was chaos and not a good way to start the night.Once we were in food was reasonable but the menu is relatively limited and plain. Better options in Florence.
Family run florentine steak place. Huge places with lots of sitting. Food was fast and brilliant. We kinda of chance upon this restaurant as our other choice was full and we need to wait for an hour. And we were fortunate for this chance. The place is huge with many seatings (we went pass at least 6+ rooms?), And despite that, food was serve fast.As with legit florentine steak, it will be all cooked rare. This establishment sells the steak by weight, so even though we ordered a 1kg steak, it turns out to be 1.25kg so we paid the price accordingly per unit. The 2 of us barely finished it (we also shared a fresh vege soup). Beef was cooked to perfection, a sprinkle of salt made it perfect. Also they have their in-house house wine which is pretty decent.Service was good, even though the waiter were busy like hell but they still managed to attend to every diner and with a charming smile! And we can see the whole family was down (grandma and pa, dad and sonrunning the show.Overall highly recommend this establishment especially if you have a big group or no reservations.
This is the best place in Florence for any visitors looking for great cuisine, and absolute fantastic dining areas. I recommend asking the waiter/waitress for recommendations for the seasonal appetizers at the least. They have a great use of English as well, but please check out some obvious no-nos when dining in Italian restaurants. Below is a selection of a beef dish, rabbit (my favorite in Tuscany and Italy hands down), a typical regional soup dish, and lastly chicken for our kosher eaters.
Great place to eat when you are in Florence! Very good food, prices are reasonable, perfect service...
I will start with positive things about this place. 1. Friendly and helpful staff; 2. Ambience of the place makes you feel like you are stuck in old Florence. Unfortunately, this is where it ends.I don’t understand how this place got Michelin star and very difficult to get a reservation, but the food does not live up to the expectation. Frankly, I had better food at franchise restaurants in canada/us. We had a veal chop and it had no taste and full of fat layers; penne with meat sauce tasted like a pasta out of a can. To top it off, they provide you with pre-made bread that is waiting for you on the table...which suggests that it’s been out for a while.
Amazing florentine restaurant, where you can find all the classics and hands down the best meat I ever tasted. Price is very honest for the excellent quality they offer and for this being in downtown Florence. Reservation is absolutely needed.
The only reason I rate them lower than 5 was because I wished they would be frank when we asked about the portion size. We would have not other so much if we knew exactly how big the T-bone steak was. It was way too much for 6 of us. We could not finish our food. We had tuscan ham, salami, some soups, Florentine steak, T-bone steak and roasted mix. I didnt really like the roasted mix but other than that, everything else was really good. Again, reservation for dinner is a must.
I strongly believe your trip to Florence is not completed if one of your meals was not at Il Latini. This local trattoria, operating in a 15th century building in a tiny street very close to Piazza della Santa Maria Novella, hosts hundreds of happy clients every day. It is a challenge to make your way in and you have zero chance if you do not reserve in advance. A big crowd starts gathering in front of its door before its doors open at 7:30 pm and the lucky ones start getting admitted one by one as their names are read from the reservation list. If you check the photos, you will see how it works. It is amazingly efficient. As soon you sit down, your order is taken by a friendly waiter and you get served without much wait. We had first discovered Il Latini 20 years ago and it was a joy to return 20 years later to see nothing changed and it was frozen in a time tunnel, still serving the best food with great hospitality. If you are determined to taste a Florentine steak, this is the place to order it. Do not miss your chance to order prosciutto. Also the beans served a la Florentine style are to die for. I like their fried artichokes as a side dish. It is about 50 euro per person with wine. You eat in a historical setting under arched ceilings rooms with hams hanging down. You can also shop for their products to carry back home some taste from this marvelous, more than five star, food empire. For the food quality, big portions and the authenticity it offers, the prices are not astronomic
Good food, a touch on the salty side. I had the 40 Euro family style meal. It was way too much food. So much went to waste that you feel bad not eating it all. Most tables ordered the Florentine steak for two and had similar issues. The restaurant would be better with smaller portions. But everything was tasty.
Come prepared for a feast. They have two family style options that provide highlights from the menu and include wine for €40 and €60. It is a massive amount of food so make sure you’re hungry expect a food coma
My husband and I decided to eat here after our AirBnB host suggested for Italian steak. When we arrived at 8pm, the place was already filling up. We got seated right away and noticed many other foreigners surrounded us. I guess this place is more popular than I thought! Their popular steak option is the Florentine Steak which comes at 50€ per 100g. Since we aren’t big foodies we settled with the sirloin for 25€. The steaks are normally served RARE so hope you like it bloody. There were other people around us who asked it to be cooked longer but I feel like it’s a little insulting to the steak. So we ordered our sirloin, rare, penne with meat sauce, salami to start and tiramisu to finish. The salami starter came with six pieces that were very tasty. Penne was a little on the firm side. Sirloin was bloody but pretty good. Also ordered a side of grilled vegetables that were delicious. Tiramisu was good but it didn’t blow my mind. Would I come back? Service good, clean bathroom, good food - yup I would!
Wait staff was extremely friendly. However, service took a while and we never got our bread. Food itself was good, but not as much as other reviews rave. Pasta was disappointing to an extreme, and rabbit was salty/overcooked. Lamb was good, and steak was excellent
Wow what a restaurant, the food was amazing and reasonably priced. Its very very popular with locals and tourists so be sure to book. The wine on the table may throw you you are literally charged for what you drink if you drink a glass you pay for a glass if you drink the bottle its 10 euros :))
Florence typical menu. Classic in everything the location the menu the service. I think nothing has changed in the past 50 years.Lovely traditional popular restourant. Great wine selection.
This place is recommended by Conde Nast, and for good reason. The food here is absolutely amazing. It may not look appetizing, but the taste definitely makes up for it. I cannot stress how much food was presented and for such a great price. I remember seeing another table ordering a cut of meat and it was probably 12 inches, around. Im not even joking, this place is definitely somewhere you need to go if youre ever in Florence! I cannot stress how great their food taste and how "homey" it is when you step inside.
This restaurant is the one that I will not go again. NO English menu, very fair service and very expensive, they will suggest you to have minced meat Penne or Spagetti, a salad, steak with side dish which we found every table is set to have the same (except that you understand Italian or ask the staff to explain everything in menu. We have the most expensive steak in this trip 50euro/kg, and the steak is not so good ( we try other 3 restaurant, including ZaZa). The service and the atmosphere, feeling that you want to finish your dinner and leave asap. The dinner costs more than 80 euros!!!!
