Iguana Mexican Restaurant in Budapest

Went for a late lunch with business in mind. Was able to meet and talk easily. Staff was very helpful and attentive. Great place.My only negative, if you could call it that, was that the hot salsa could have been more spicy. Flavor was good though.

Cannot understand how people rate less than 5 stars. Great food, fast service and big portions by European standards. Pina Colada and the Zombie are a must try as well as the taquitos, sadly couldn’t snap a picture since we devoured it as soon as it came out. All around will definitely be coming here again.

Dined for 1 so was seated at the bar. Food was nice, taco filling made them completely fall apart though so cutlery was necessary! Could have been warmer in temperature and a little spicier. Nice place and quite busy

Great. Always good food and some great margaritas — there’s outdoor seating on a littlepatio too. Food is as authentic as it gets in Europe; not the real Mexican thing, but quite good. Service is always friendly and the place is most of the times packed; make a reservation orcome early to grab a table outside.

Mexican food can be a bit hit and miss. Definitely a hit here. Great quality. Great cocktails, Friendly staff. A very good experience.

Myself and my wife visited last week, we hadn’t made a table reservation and there were no table’s available but thankfully the staff were very accommodating and we were offered seats at the bar where we could order drinks and food.The decor was quirky and enjoyable and the atmosphere of the place was great. The service was quick and friendly from start to finish.I ordered a margarita on the rocks and a Budvar and my wife ordered a strawberry daiquiri. The margarita was extremely fresh, flavoursome and I’d highly recommend. You could really taste the fresh strawberries in my wife’s daiquiri and she was a big fan of the consistency and flavours.We ordered the original nachos to share for the starter. I’m very glad that we got them to share because it more than ample portion for us to share. The cheese coverage was very generous and covered the whole plate of nachos as opposed to just a central area like you tend to get elsewhere, which was greatly appreciated. They didn’t skimp on the fresh tomatoes, guacamole, sour cream and jalapeños which really helped add to the plate of nacho goodness.The menu is extensive and should have something for everybody but that made for some very tough choices because we both could’ve easily ordered 5/6 different mains. I ordered the chicken chimichanga which was packed full of tender, flavoursome chicken and surrounded by a nice and crispy deep fried wrap. The rice and sauces came separately on the side which I was very happy with as I’m more of a salsa fan than guacamole and sour cream, so it let me add what I wanted to the chimichanga as opposed to just assuming how much of each I wanted in. The salsa had a nice freshness and kick to it. My wife got the chicken tacos which were served in soft shells and she hasn’t stopped raving about them since, so I can only assume they were fantastic. In her defence, they did look delectable.My only regret is that I was too full for dessert as I would’ve loved some churros but the starters and main were so good that I had to finish everything and the margaritas just round things off perfectly.Great staff, atmosphere and food. I’d strongly recommend visiting Iguana if you want some great Mexican food in Budapest!

Great drinks at great prices (especially the margaritas). The food is always good and the portions are really generous. The waiters are always nice, since it is always busy I always respect their efforts. They speak good english and are very cheerful. The desserts are also amazing.Make sure you make a reservation and if it is for more people, call ahead in time as there is high demand.

The food is always good at Iguana, tonight they were very busy and dealing with new staff so unfortunately the food took a while to arrive. The bar staff were excellent and communicated well and ended up providing the meal for free. It was unexpected but certainly appreciated. They turned a less than great experience into a very good one. Will be back soon.

We came here for Sunday lunch. The restaurant was almost full but they found a nice table for us. The staff was nice. Maybe not outstanding but they did a good job :)About the food - wow!Best tacos Ive ever had! Lots of coriander and a piece of lime for each taco. Everything fresh. Guacamole was suprisingly very smooth. Portion wasnt too big. If youre very hungry or a grown-up man you should choose something extra or go with a starter or soup first.My partner chose fajitas with chicken and beef and it was a definitely bigger portion than mine so I helped him with it and we were both happy 😋For my tacos were better than fajitas but my partner had a different opinion - he fell in love with his fajitas 😃Anyway, both Alejandro tacos and Fajitas were perfect 👌I absolutely recommend this place 🔥Were coming back any time its possible.

Really good food, real Mexican flavours and all good vibes inside! The waiters look like they enjoy their job. Nice chat guaranteed! The food: fresh, colourful, options for kids and vegetarians, which is really cool. I really enjoyed myself there and will definitely come back while visiting Budapest 😀

Had a great time here earlier. The waitress was very helpful and friendly. She helped us a lot on food and tequila. Food was very tasty and exotic. The surrounding is joyful and feels like youd be in Mexico.

I know it’s a popular place but as a Mexican I think the food was horrible, my tacos were too salty and I had to returned them. I had to wait another 30 min to eat. The margaritas were good, honestly the highlight of the night was László the waiter. He was such a nice waiter and thoughtful, I don’t blame the guy he was excellent, I blame the kitchen for such a poor service.

Would have given 4 stars. But the hostess didn’t seat us at the table, although place had at least 5-8 free tables for 2 people for like 2h while we were there. We sat at the bar.Normally I come there for frozen margaritas (best in townand sit at the bar, for food sitting at the bar was a bit uncomfortable. Didn’t like the dish with shredded chicken and chocolate. Chimichanga were delicious.

Super friendly staff and waitors. The food was awsome. The best maxican food I have had i Europe. The meat and chicken was super tasty and the salsas and quacamole was seasoned to perfektion. Not to spicy and not to bland. Nice prices and alot to choose from. The chimychangas was the best from the items we ordered. Would eat here at least once a week if i could. Overall the food was just blah. Servers were nice and accommodating of a peanut allergy, but clearly frazzled by the large number of people and food took a very long time, and w got the wrong dish initially (they did fix it very quicklyI ordered the veggie tacos (possibly a mistake in a place that was all about the meats), but the taco shells fell apart, the filing was mostly iceberg lettuce, and the vegetables at the bottom were just kinda flavorless and rubbery. My companion ordered the special enchiladas and they were pretty decent, but again nothing remarkable about flavor.I will say the daiquiri we got was phenomenal, would go back for drinks but not for food

This place actually pretty nice with a great service! The design are very warm and nice. The food are tasty some of them have a very traditional taste. The price are kinda expensive. Overall it’s a nice place, but I did not taste something that triggered me so I guess it a 4.!!! Must Visit !!!

Food was good, nicely sized portions.Service was a bit disappointing. We had a table for 20:00, ordered food 20:10.50 minutes later we received the nachos starter. Mains was quick to arrive after that. But 50 minutes for nachos?Our waiter was pushy and somehow I ended up ordering margaritas on his suggestion. The margaritas was good though.After the main, the waiter approach 3 times asking us to try the desserts.I’m short, I think it’s a good place and we just got unlucky with the waiting time and the waiter.

Not bad at all especially contrasted with other Mexican food Ive had in Europe!Food was well cooked, fresh, and the flavors of the dishes were distinct from one another (cant say that about a lot of typical Tex Mex). Great frozen cocktails as well!

We came at around 2 p.m. during a weekday and luckily got a table outside without a reservation. The staff was friendly, the food was delicious and the portions were quite big. I personally loved that my tacos al pastor came with multiple chunks of pineapple per taco and not just one! I recommend trying out the Michelada for fun🍹😅 We paid around 46€ (17000 HUFincluding the tip.

One of the best Mexican restaurant in Europe, all very fresh, they have own mole sauce, extremely tasty...big portion of guacamole, good nachos and I also enjoyed chilli bean stew with whole corn grains, it was amazing and they have great vegan options too. We returned back after a year and the quality was same high as before. Thats why this review was for me "must do"... excellent!

Found by accident and was told there would be a wait, literally 5 minutes later a table was cleared and we were seated at an outside table. Plenty of options and they even modified dishes to make them vegan for us. Food was amazing as were the cocktails. So glad we found Iguana bar and grill.

Lovely mexican restaurant near the city centre. We were greeted by two beautiful hostesses that made space outdoors for us to enjoy the lovely weather. We ordered beef cheesy nachos, tacos del pastor and tacos mahi mahi. Food took a bit long to come out, but they were extremely busy. It was worth the wait! The portions were big and the food was full of flavour and well crafted and presented.

What you can have here is nice and funny staff. That is a plus compered to other places. However, the kitchen is somewhere around ok and the drinks are the most expensive I have seen in a long time. There is a lemonade costs more then 2000 forints, plus a more then 10% service fee of course. I had dinner before so I tried only the Jalapeno poppers. Strangely only half of them was nice, I felt the taste of Cheddar in the cheese,what I think all should be cheddar by the way, but the other half of the poppers were boring. The most surprising thing is the dip options. This place has no dip without mustard ketchup or mayonnaise. What? Are you a so called mexican place or a school buffet? With my E200 preserver allergies I could have a little sour milk for the poppers but my mood was sour as well. Maybe they worth more then 3 stars but they didnt prove that to me, I might try again and change my rating but there is so many more places to try. Please W35 open again so I can eat a good Jalapeno poppers in Budapest finally.

The best Mexican food we have had in Budapest! To start, we immediately felt welcomed and comfortable by all the smiling staff. The food was outstanding: delicious and full of flavor. We enjoyed the jalapeño poppers, steak burrito, chicken fajitas, and 2 desserts: churros and the fried ice cream. I only added photos of the jalapeño poppers because once the main course got to our table we started eating it right away 😂 we will be back again for sure!

Well, its well rated and a difficult getting spot place. We dined inside because during the booking we didnt highlight to sit outside. It was fully booked.Service was great. The waiters were really friendly.Food finally, i liked the drinks and dessert part. Fried 🍦 ice cream was really good. However the pork tacos we took werent as GOOD as expected. I felt it was a bit salty. The same case was for bf. For this food, the place is overrated.

One of the best Mexican cuisine restaurants I have ever tried. Keep in mind you need to reserve in advance as its full most of the time. Their nachos and fajitas are really delicious. We were pampered by the amazing service of Soma. Reasonable prices for a good quality food. Would definitely come back

A great Mexican place deserving all the praise it gets. The menu contains simply too many items to taste on a single visit. Strawberry Margherita was delicious and their own draught beer was not bad, either. The portions are hearty, especially if one decides to go for a starter, too. Some very adventurous dishes like the chocolate covered enchiladas. Check out the framed newspaper page next to the bathroom for some background trivia.

Friendly atmosphere and really good Mexican food. We had Nachos, Fajitas, Enchilada especial and cocktails. I personally recommend the enchilada, that was super tasty! The staff is friendly and kind. Highly recommended

Amazing food. If youre looking for truly and tasty mexican kitchen, this place is a great choice. Portions are pretty huge, everything was very delicious. Popcorn soup was amazing!

They craft their own beer 👍. OK food was good, but Im giving them 5stars because their food is different then they serve at home. Damn, I should order what my wife had....Monterey buritto. Some spicy wouldnt hurt.

I’m confused as how to rate this restaurant.. I’m Hispanic, not Mexican, but I know true Mexican food, even Mexican American - and the food tasted more like Mexican Italian. We got the quesadillas and chicken enchiladas and both had what tasted like tomato sauce that goes on lasagna. It wasn’t bad, it actually tasted very good, but it’s not Mexican ! Then they topped it with Parmesan cheese, not Mexican blend, not cheddar, not any type that goes on Mexican food, but Parmesan 😄. Once again, tasty, but not Mexican.Now, the portions were great, the frozen margaritas were delicious, and the service was fairly fast- because we had to sit at the bar due to lack of sitting, which I recommend.We got our food faster than other people who got there before us - which is great!The bartenders and staff were overall very friendly and the overall atmosphere was enjoyable. Would I come back ? With the variety of restaurants in Budapest, probably not - but it was pleasant experience - so - You decide.

Iguana is a jewel in Budapest. The food is always delicious and the staff very friendly. This time I had the Tacos Al Pastor and my partner had a Burrito. Both on point with fresh ingredients, even those hard to find like cilantro, avocado and pineapple.Then with had churros for dessert and thats where they caught me forever. I love churros and this were perfectly crunchy and the chocolate thick, not too sweet, not too bitter. Just perfect!Its a bit more expensive than other Mexican restaurants, but its worth every cent.Totally recommend it 👌

So nice Mexican restaurant ! We couldnt pass this restaurant as smells so good. The food has Just right spicy and so delicious as smell! The staff was so so nice and kind. We were lucky had table but it would be good reserve table and visit. I will definitely visit again :-)

A great place for some Tex Mex cuisine. Weve been here many times and have not been disappointed. The food is excellent and never disappoints. The Iguana is usually busy so reservations are recommended but the staff are very friendly and help seat you even if they are busy. Courteous and helpful staff make for a great dining experience, we highly recommend this restaurant.

Pretty nice Mexican restaurant. It’s located in a very quiet street and even when sitting outside, you’ll have a relaxing meal. The tables outside are protected by trees, which during hot weather, is a nice plus point.The Lemonade was very good and nicely refreshing on a hot summer day. We also had one of their wines, which was very tasty.The food was very delicious. Unsure what the point of half a plate of lettuce, which had no dressing or seasoning, was. The tomatoes unfortunately weren’t fresh and must have been from the day before or so.All of the waitresses seemed very bored and unmotivated unfortunately. Bit confused why non of the staff had masks on!!Cash and card payment possible. English menus available. Prices are reasonable.
