Ιερός Ναός Οσίου Δαβίδ - Greek Orthodox church in Serres, Greece
Not open on opening hours
Well worth walking up the steep slopes of upper Thessaloniki to visit this marvellous little church with its outstanding 5th century mosaics. A real hidden gem. If in the area, you should also visit the nearby Vlatadon Monastery and the impressive Theodosian walls.
Nivel and small Monastery
We found it open according to the Maps timetable: so many thanks to the keeper who granted us such a wonderful vision.
Wonderful place for praying.
Nice view, historical momument

Beautiful view from this gorgeous place. A still functioned monastery on the top of Thessaloniki. Here are also birds in big cages to see…

Impossible to get there because of workers on the way in August...
+ Beautiful mosaic in an ancient church- But beware of one of the guards.. be careful if you are female and come here alone
A quiet serene church hidden away with an incredible view of the city. Also hides a treasure inside- a very old mosaic of Jesus.

A hidden gem among the small houses of the upper part of the old city of Thessaloniki. Definitely worth visiting even if you dont have a religious interest in it.
Absolutely unique experience! It’s only a pity that we couldn’t spend more time there (the church was closing).
UNESCO world heritage, google it
Great orthodox church
Its nice temple but there are far better in thessaloniki.
One of the most amazing early mosaics (about 480 A. D.of Christianity.
The view, the art and the historical importance of the place is a must for a visit in Thessalonique
breathtaking view, very rare icons inside for those who know - worthed to visit but pay attention to the visiting hours according to each season
This is Acropolis walls and Vlatadon monastery in Thessaloniki. The monastery was probably built in the fourteenth century. Its a beautiful monastery perched on a high ground very close to the city walls.
Orthodox church in the high part of Thessaloniki, with incredible mosaic and fresco decoration. A must-see in this gorgeus city.
You should visit this church mostly for the beautiful mosaic and the friendly people watching the church who gladly answer your questions. However this church is only open from 10:00-14:00 as are the Jewish museum and a lot of other churches in the city. The mosaic displays a vision of Ezekiel (seen on the leftof a theophany or in this case Jesus(the one in the middle of the eyecoming to earth and the prophet/philosopher Habbakuk (on the right). Its quite unique not only because it survived the Ottoman ruling (most churches were transformed into mosks and since any devine depiction is forbidden in mosks, most works of art were destroyed or damaged in an attempt to cover them upand because its a depiction of Jesus instead of Madonna and child (usually depicted in the central domebut also because its one of the few depictions in the world of Jesus without a beard. The walk to the church is quite long and uphill but definitely worth it once you reach your destination.Ps: for who wants to know: the church is also declared a UNESCO world heritage site.Ps: the animals/angel around Jesus depict the evangelists.
An important place for orthodox heritage of Salonic. Unfotunately forgoten by local and ecclesiastical autorities. Deserve more.
Hard to find, very small, but a very moving historic church. There was a person there explaining the contents of the church which turned it into a powerful experience.
Beautiful mosaic, nice little monastery.
Built by a woman, also known as the Latomos Monastery, this is one of the oldest churches in the city.Fantastic frescoes, with a very rare depiction of Jesus without a beard.Open on special occasions.
Monday to Thursday 9:00 - 16:00Friday to Saturday 9:00 - 13:00Sunday 5:00 - 13:00
Unesco protected monastry, hard to find in the old town of Thessaloniki!
This was my favourite place in Thessaloniki when I visited for 2 days. I know some people might think its a bit strange to like such a small place, but this tiny old church exuded such peace... it was infectious... and so, so quiet.... I was on a bit of a high afterwards. This is one of my favourite feelings in life. Ive only had it a handful of times. A couple of times in temples in Thailand and a couple of times in nature. There is a nice view from this place looking out over Thessaloniki also, and the walk up is through some very pretty old streets. Altogether a must-visit hidden gem for the soul!
The mosaic is an awesome piece of art. But no photos allowed
Very beautiful small church.
Beautiful small church, wonderful view
Amazing mosaic, a true masterpiece. A must see!
Turtles used to live in churchs yard! I am not sure if they are still there..
