Þingvallastræti 23, 600 Akureyri, Iceland, Akureyri
Set in a converted university building, this modern, warm hotel overlooks Eyjafjordur, the country's longest fjord. It's across the street from Sundlaug Akureyrar, a complex of geothermal pools, waterslides and hot tubs, and 6 km from the ski resorts on Mt. Hlíðarfjall. The Zen-like rooms feature free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs, as well as tea and coffeemakers. Family rooms come with bunk beds. Upgraded rooms and the lone suite have living areas; some offer fjord and mountain views.A breakfast buffet is complimentary for kids age 5 and under. A contemporary restaurant/bar serves meals on a terrace and features a fireplace.
Comfortable spacious rooms, large lounge area, and an excellent restaurant with great ambiance. Not to mention superb meals and drinks. Tropical raspberry, lanoustine soup and Monkfish. It’s located three blocks from the hip strip, but provides quiet retreat for the night.
Wonderful accommodations. Great location. Public Pool across the street. Views from our room.
Great hotel. Wonderful staff. Rooms are clean, modern and well laid out. Staff are friendly and helpful. Hotel is 15 minute walk to downtown and close to community swim center.
We had a group reservation. When I arrived, they didnt find me amongst the group so they gave me an available room. When I entered the room, it was already occupied by another guest. I returned embarrassed and told them what happened. They gave me another room which wasnt radely available - it had to be cleaned beforehand and had to wait a couple of minutes. Understandable. After waitting for 10 minutes, they told me that my room was ready. The second room had unironed and stained bed sheets and pillow caisings. When I went back again to complain, it turned out that my name was in their system, but on a different reservation. My room was just sitting there ready, but lost in the system.
Excellent rooms. Good customer service, very well maintained property. Strongly recommend this Hotel
Decent hotel, but was very crowded, and this was annoying during the breakfast time.
Hotel was good, pleasant bar, Nice room with view and clean. Not very uptodate but good enough
Simple room, nice and warm hotel with delicious cake and cozy corner cafe...we muat climb up to the hotel if we are walking to get some food or store
Clean, updated rooms. Our room had a nice view of the mountains. The happy hour was good. Comfortable lobby. Friendly and helpful staff.
Big hotel and good if you have a car.Friendly staff, especially at reception.Breakfast was okay but the room was pretty small for that amount of guests.I didnt like that the sink was at the room entrance and the toilet and shower was just next to the bed with a frosted sliding door with a hole in it where you put your hand to slide it.The privacy if you are more than one is almost zero!No sidetables next to the bed is not good, you could use the small standalone table on one side but the other side didnt have that.
Large modern room, great shower and comfortable bed. Plus the restaurant was very good, if a little expensive. The main town centre is nearby, but its a steep hill climb on the way back.
This hotel is older in style, they still hand out keys but maybe thats the style of the place. Nestled near the center of the city, its a 5 min walk (if you are used to snow and iceor a 15 min walk (if you a snow noob, like myselfto the downtown area. The shops there are great but this review is about the hotel.anyway their bar is great, breakfast is bomb, but room is smaller and of questionable design. Unique but questionable. I believe this building is 5 stories plus a basement. There is 1 elevator and wide stairs in the middle. Be prepared to walk. Also another note, their bar doubles as a reception so dont feel so lost when you walk in there for the first time.
Excellent accommodation, rooms and bathrooms are very clean, large, modern and quiet. Great breakfast and friendly staff. Fair price to the quality that offers. Recommended!
This was our first night in an Icelandair Hotel, and it couldnt have been better. We spent a long day driving from Reykjavik, and we were ready to rest. The room was very cleverly laid out to maximize space, like all the Icelandair Hotel rooms. The location is easy to find, and its right across the street from the municipal bath (which, alas, we were in too much of a hurry to check out). We skipped breakfast and instead stopped by a local bakery downtown since we werent too hungry, and looked at the fantastic bookstore in the downtown area. And then we just marveled at the fjords for awhile, some of which we could see from our hotel room here.Plus its got this wonderful LOccitane body wash, shampoo, and conditioner that I want to purchase for my home.Highly recommended.
The person at checkin acted like we were bothering her when we wanted to check in. The rooms are ultra modern in style, but the design is less than ideal. The toilet and sink are on opposite sides of the room. The saving grace of this place was their breakfast had a great selection.
The rooms were ok but only three channels on TV. The toilet door is glass and when someone is using it the whole room lights up in the middle of the night. Large windows, modern furniture. We didnt have breakfast because it wasnt worth the 20€!
The people are very nice and the facility is clean. The shower is subpar and we did not sleep well- it was too warm and only one pillow. However the options are limited and this is safe, clean, and affordable for those passing through. Experience would vary depending on your preferred sleeping conditions. Nothing inherently wrong or bad about it but not to our preferences.
This hotel is not Honest. they Advertyse an Offer for none price and then when you tjek out there is a much higer price you must pay. They tell you Brekfast included then they charge for it. Dishonest.
Clean hotel, good to stay for a night or two. But if the staff gives you the impression she hates her job and has no interest in you, well then all the rest doesn’t matter. Unfortunately we had the same woman with the same attitude during check in and out 😳😥
Good rooms, shower roomy staff very helpful. Easy to get to and pool aross street.
This large hotel is at a 5 minutes walk (a mildly steep slopefrom downtown Akureyri. The rooms are spacious, clean, and well furnished. The quality of the provided toiletry is excellent. If you are coming by care, there is a huge free parking just outside, charging stations are available too.
A beautiful hotel room! Incredibly spacious and lovely toiletries provided. The restaurant is also excellent for dinner and breakfast, with vegetarian options. The staff are also very welcoming. The room we had faced the street, so we couldnt be too comfortable with the curtains open. Also, we could hear a very loud sound from the room upstairs when they would turn their water on. Overall, however, an amazing hotel.
This is good hotel. The room we took is unique, where we had a view of the heated pool with slides! The bathroom and the toilet is separated so you can quickly get ready if you are sharing the room. Same as other icelander hotel, the use L’Occitane bath lotion and hair care products. Enjoy your bath but beware that it floods the entire bathroom.
Great place to stay with easy access! Room was lovely, and the hotel bar was always hopping! It seemed to be a locals hangout, and the beer prices were the best we found in Akureyri.
Arrival day went extremely well. The hotel is well-appointed, and the location is extremely scenic. I wish that I could go play on the ski slopes visible from my window. The food was the usual Icelandic standard (i.e.: very good), though the prices might seem high to those from somewhere cheaper than Seattle. The only thing I missed were heated floors in the bathroom and shower areas, but most newer builds seem to lack this simple luxury. I definitely enjoyed my short stay, and would love to repeat the experience.
We love this place, clean, spacious, well-equipped room. The back of the hotel is a large carpark a bit away from city lights. We saw a dancing show of Northern lights up over us and were overjoyed.
Basic hotel. Quite noisy on lower level (100sdue to poor sound insulation and door seals. No amenities in room except kettle. Breakfast was very basic as well. Modern but bland decor throughout. On hill overlooking town. Youll get a good workout returning to your room. Close to excellent Sundlaug swimming centre.
We stayed in a Deluxe room (more roomy than normal room but smaller than suite). It was nice. Had TV that rotates 180 degree so that we can watch TV from the bed or sofa. Wished shower room and toilet are close to each other. Also, it would have been perfect if bathroom tiles are heated.
Great staff. Had dinner in restaurant first night. Amazing salmon! Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. If coming with own car, good parking available unlike KEA hotel down the street which has NO parking lot.
The perfect Hotel ! Well located, very clean, good soundproofing, cosy and comfortable.Every member of the staff was professional and friendly, especially the head of the staff. Thank you again for everything ! Would definitely come back here next time.Cheers from France !
We stayed at this hotel for one night along our Ring Road trip of Iceland and we are so happy we did! It is a close distance from the downtown area of Akureyri, so its easy to walk to nearby restaurants! The bedrooms and decor are modern, and as usual with the IcelandAir hotels, the ambiance and aesthetic of the main living areas of the hotel, the restaurants and the rooms were excellent -- need to know who the interior designer is! Theres a great view of the mountains from the hotel and the restaurant is excellent, too! Also, shoutout to the front desk associates for being warm, welcoming, friendly, and so helpful when it came to helping me find some spare batteries and a converter!
They gave us a family room that has queen and 2 bunk beds even though we were only 2 people. The room is clean and had 2 sinks. It’s conveniently located only 10 walk away from all the bars and restaurants at the heart of downtown.
Clean, Modern. Friendly. Kid friendly, play area in the downstairs dining area so parents can enjoy breakfast while the children play. But a special thank you to the staff here. They are amazing. They told us of restaurants in the area that are great for kids. She also helped us with getting another hotel room upgrade in our next Iceland hotel along our journey in Iceland. Place is great. Lovely beautiful city too.
We had a standard two twin bed room. Small in size but well designed. It was cramped moreso than we expected. Lobby staff are super friendly. Mini Mart up the street. Across from the cities pools and playgrounds
The staff were a bit cold. The rooms had some quirky design features such as WC and glass door adjacent to bed. The shower had no door. If you were solo probably not a problem, but privacy is a problem. More suited for business accommodation.
The bathroom setup was not ideal for two friends staying in the same room. Not much of a door on the shower or toilet, both just beside the head of the bed. Theyd also invited us down for breakfast in the mornings (which was goodand then we got charged for that later... overall it was a nicely decorated, clean hotel, but not sure I would stay here again.
Beautifully appointed modern hotel with nice happy hour in the lobby bar. Sit outside when the day is sunny. Easy walk to downtown shopping and restaurants although dining at hotel is excellent. Definitely would return.
Clean, and comfortable rooms. Hotel is located a short walk (with a long, steep hillfrom the town center, and is right next to the city pool. There rooms might have a view of the ski mountain or fjord. The hotel restaurant is decent (they accommodated me as a vegan. There is a bar at reception were we had cocktails they also serve espresso and are open long hours (until 1 amI stayed with my boyfriend in January.
Goddamn brilliant hotel. Great rooms, nice toiletries, friendly staff and the most reasonably priced lunch menu at Aurora. Cheapest and nicest lunch we had in all of Iceland if you ask me (dont include hot dogs and fast food stands of course). Please stay!!!!
Hotel was very nice, trendy and bright. We got the wrong room during check in time and I didnt notice. With the short stay, 1 night, hotel brought this up when I checked out and gave me no problem.
The Hotel is good and deserves 4 stars. Friendly staff and clean rooms. What is very disturbing is that a couple of guys drive through the streets with extremely loud cars. They do that all night long. Such a quiet little town..... ;((
Very nice hotel. Best shower we had the entire trip! Quick walk to downtown restaurants and right across the street from the local pool. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for acoomodations in the area.
Great location allows quick walks into town and access to some great restaurants. This was the best laid out room from all of our stays in Iceland. Plenty of storage and room to hang out. Also, a single mattress instead of two twins smashed together. A big plus for our honeymoon!
We splurged on a suite and couldnt have been happier. Not much of a view, but the design and size of the room were great. Otherwise the food was good if not a little pricey, but that is expected given the hotel and the area.
The only drawback for this hotel is the massive hill you have to walk up every time back from the town center. Its probably a 300-400 elevation change. It is less than a 10 minute walk but its a heckuva hill to climb.Otherwise, this hotel is perfect. We were able to view the Aurora Borealis from our huge windows over the mountains. The shower is outstanding as well, great pressure. The staff were very helpful and the hotel was very well kept. They have a breakfast buffet every morning until 10:00. A great spread with plenty of food options to load up for a day of hiking and adventures.
Friendly staff and quiet rooms. Breakfast and food is overpriced. Do shop around when buying rooms as direct is often more expensive. Twin rooms have a better shower! Also not as good as others in the Icelandair estate - its a bit dated.
Everything but one thing was great about this hotel. Bed nice, room large, breakfast good, close to city ceter, awesome view, service was kind and helpful. But we would NEVER stay here again for one reason- the bathroom is not private. The bathroom is contained in a glass shower door 6 inches from the side of the bed. No privacy at all and loud and annoying to the person who draws the short straw to have to sleep on that side. The shower also has no curtain and sprays all over and there is no drain to get rid of the water. Unless you bring a mop, your socks will be wet trying to go to the bathroom. Find anywhere else to stay.
There arent many hotels in Akureyi, which is a wonderful place to visit. This is probably the best choice. However, it has some weak points as a hotel. Its clean and has OK food, but the beds are hard and the toilet completely lacks privacy. The room would be OK as a single, but even my husband and I were uncomfortable with the situation.
Im not a particularly needy guest, but I was shocked by how terrible the front desk service was: they were consistently aloof to flat-out rude. Furthermore, the hotel has a policy of incrimentally sucking more money out of you: its an extra US$9/day for internet, US$18 for breakfast, etc. The good side: the rooms were nice and the breakfast was admittedly excellent. On a previous trip I stayed at Hotel Kea down the street and had a much better experience so I will take my business back there next time.
Had a great stay there yesterday. 5th floor rooms had great views of fjord, mountains and downtown. Fish dinner in the hotel restaurant was excellent (but you might not notice that there is a restaurant downstairs unless you look for it).The hotel has a nice sitting area outside thats blocked from wind and has a few fireplaces. This was an unexpected bonus as its sometimes a bit windy to just sit and talk.
