Ian Anderson's Caves Branch Jungle Lodge - in Belmopan, Belize
Ian Anderson's Caves Branch Jungle Lodge in Belmopan
Description
This place was amazing! from the location to the people, to the food.We always felt like we were being taken care of and answering any question or request that we had.We were a family of 5 with two kids under two, and the staff accommodated us with cribs and special meals for the small kiddos. The guides were so knowledge full and proficient about the tours, it is very apparent that they had trained for many months to become guides.Pedro and Wilmer made us feel extremely safe during the tours. And above all, Carlos and Gioveny made us feel like family, listening to any request and answering our questions. The food here was terrific as well, and you always ended the meals very full and happy, thanks to Adonis, Leo, and Raphael.Another excellent option for families with small kids is that Cave Branch has a babysitter service, our two infants LOVED Lety, and she gave the infants so much love and attention that me and my wife were super calm to go out and explore a tour.I will definitely go back!
MoreBeautiful Belize,to many beautiful places, not enough time, this has been one of the wonders find in Belize, I have no idea how to describe this place,I guess I will say, over amazing place 1000%recommend 😀.
MoreWe spent our 10-year anniversary here, and we loved it. Do NOT go here if you are expecting a typical all-inclusive experience. This is for people wanting adventure. The guides for the adventures are great. The drivers to adventures were equally great. Great service all around.Additional ratings:Food: 7/10Pool: 8/10Grounds: 10/10Drinks/bartender (Elias was great!): 9/10The waterfall cave tour is not for the faint of heart! It was challenging but so fun. Take a trip snorkeling on the coast too.
MoreWe had a blast!!!!! So many things to do. Beautiful grounds, friendly staff, awesome adventures, excellent food. The rooms were gorgeous - we loved the outdoor shower. It was plenty cool at night to sleep comfortably, but the A/C above each bed took enough humidity away to make it wonderful!! Highly recommended!! Pedro and Jaisen were particularly amazing on our cave tubing excursion.
MoreWow. This place is something that should have been in my bucket list. Sleeping to the sounds of the jungle in the incredibly comfortable treehouse was unforgettable. Truly amazing all around. I am someone who never wants to return to a place but I would like to go back here at some point. The staff was super helpful and the rooms were very clean despite being in the middle of a full on jungle.
MoreDo yourself a favor and stay here! Amazing customer service. Book a treehouse! The grounds are beautiful. You truly are in the jungle. I will def be back.
MoreWe went here in May 2022 for two days. The scenery is gorgeous. It looks straight out of Jurassic Park. The food is very good. Get ready for four course meals. On our day trip we went to see the Mayan ruins Xunantunich and Cahal Pech. Our tour guide, Julio was so friendly and helpful. Also Thank You Gio for helping us check in and explaining everything there is to know about the lodge.
MoreThe best decision we made in our entire one-month stay in Belize was to spend five nights at Caves Branch. The property is something out of a dream--lush jungle dotted with beautiful buildings and magical tree houses. We were upgraded from a bungalow to a tree house and felt spoiled by the beautiful space with a large sitting room, spacious bathroom, and deck with an outdoor bathtub. The service we received was excellent, everyone was friendly, kind, and accommodating. The tours provided experiences we will cherish for life--start with cave tubing and then try waterfall caves and black hole drop! All in all a near perfect stay, and I would definitely return and recommend anyone coming to Belize to plan Caves Branch into their trip. Thank you for such a wonderful stay!
MoreA pleasant overnight stay in a river view treehouse. A great adventure cave tubing with great guide, Alexander.
MoreThis was my 2nd time to this resort. I love all the activities here. Our guides for the waterfall cave (Ivanand for the Black hole (Carloswere top notch. The pool area is beautiful, the rooms are clean and nice and the food is good. I think its a "have to" on the bucket list!
MoreWe split our week in Belize between a stay at Caves Branch and some time on Ambergris Caye - the entire trip was brilliantly planned and guided by Kyle, at Caves Branch. Our stay at Caves Branch exceeded our expectations on every level. The setting and accommodations are perfect - great attention to detail throughout the entire property! The entire staff at Caves Branch is top notch, many of them have been there for a long time, which not only shows in their interactions, but also speaks to a great overall work culture - which was confirmed by everyone we spoke with. The excursions are second to none (the guides are incredibly well trained, knowledgeable, and professionaland the rides to/from the airport were seamless - seriously, our entire stay was more than we could have expected and guaranteed that we will be back.
MoreWe didnt stay here but we did the Black Hole Drop tour with Justo, Juan, and Jason and it was awesome! The guides were so knowledgeable and friendly, Justo had a ton of riddles and jokes that kept us laughing the whole time. What a great group of guys and the hike and repelling was amazing too. If you stay here, or are in the area you should definitely check this place out for a fun time.
MoreThis is a very difficult review to write. My husband and I went there for our honeymoon and to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday. We rented the most expensive cabana that looked out over the jungle with its own soaking tub on the deck. If I was writing their review based solely on the accommodations I would give it five stars. However; I have to include the service that we received. First of all, the tour guides and drivers were all amazing. They may the experiences magical. The problems we had unfortunately overshadowed the amazing parts. The cabana we were staying in was 148 steps up the side of the hill. There was no lighting, and no flashlights were provided. Therefore, at night you were walking up the stairs using your phone light to get to your room. You’re in the middle of the jungle and it is pitch black and the steps are wet from the humidity and the rain we had. My husband fell down the stairs when we were coming down, and when we mentioned I it to them when we got to the restaurant their comment after a short laugh was “weren’t you using your phone flashlight?” I failed to see what was funny about my husband falling down the stairs. Perhaps it was a nervous laugh but it was a laugh nonetheless. Guests should not be required to provide their own flashlight to get to their room. There’s no reason solar lights could not have been along the path.At dinner the first night Alberto who schedules the tours asked us what tour we wanted to do the next day. When I asked what tours they offered he told me they did not have a brochure and that we would have to go to the website. When he went to the next table he was able to recite all the tours and discuss them in great detail. I was very disappointed that he did not want to take the time to go over the tours with us. When I made my displeasure known, the next night I feel we were punished because they changed our table from a beautiful table overlooking the river to one sitting in the middle of the restaurant when they were plenty of tables overlooking the river available. I’d like to also know we were the only ones put in the middle of the restaurant. When I asked what happened to our nice table I was informed simply we were moved. When Alberto came to our table to book the next day’s tour, he was so incredibly rude and condescending I was mortified in front of the other guests. I was so upset, I didn’t eat my dinner and went back to my cabana. At some point during our stay we lost about $600 US. When I brought this up to Giovanni who was the manager I believe on duty, his first comment was you think we stole it? I never accused anyone of stealing the money, just simply that I wanted to know if anyone had turned it in. I told him we would need to go into town to pull out more cash and asked if they could give us a ride. I told him we needed the cash to tip out employees, and he told me there was a charge of $46 for the ride. He said that he would only charge us for one person and that we could both go. I believe he felt this was being generous, but it was insulting to me that they would charge us $46 to go into town to get money to tip out their employees.Tipping was another issue. There was no clear process for how tipping worked. We paid for an all inclusive package which standard Lee means you tip out at the end. We had to sign a receipt at each meal that had no amount on it, nor did it have anywhere to leave a tip. We felt tensions built up as we were not tipping at each meal because we were all inclusive. I finally asked how the tipping was supposed to work, and the server told me that tipping at each meal was welcomed because if you tipped at the end everyone had to share. When we started tipping at each meal the service dramatically improved, even though they explained we were supposed to tip out at the end and a sheet would be provided to tip individuals. All in all, I feel we were treated poorly, and our honeymoon was ruined. This was my second time staying here, once in 1998, but never again.
MoreFirst, do not be fooled! Caves Branch clearly posts a Covid-19 policy on their website. But nowhere on their website does it indicate that the lodge requires a customer to provide a vaccination card in order to book an accommodation. I spoke with a representative who verbally confirmed our room number. Our family stay at Caves Branch was to be the final 4-day leg of our 20-day trip to Belize. I went ahead and booked my flights after I confirmed this last leg with Caves Branch. But Lo and Behold, as part of supplying my credit card number and personal information, they THEN request that I e-mail our vaccination cards. They just ASSUMED that were vaccinated and could send vax cards as a matter of course. Remember, this is after I had been given my room number without any mention of a vax card mandate. I booked our departure flight without any indication that being vaccinated was mandatory. I would have been absolutely fine if they had told me up front or if the website clearly expressed the mandate. We are extremely healthy with strong immune systems that we reinforce daily with exercise, breathwork, and yoga. The communication was also terrible. Three days passed and I could never get a straight answer. It took forever to receive e-mailed responses to book a room and get an answer to the vax card issue. This must be indicative of the service that any prospective customer will receive. Dont waste your money on this place. There are other nice resorts in the same area.
MoreAmazing experience from start to finish! These folks run a very smooth operation, so you dont have to worry about a thing while youre there. All of the excursions were fantastic, the guides were personable and very knowledgeable, and the resort staff becomes like family. It also feels a bit like camp in that you get to know some other families while youre there from all the interactions during the tours and hot tub sessions.Thank you for an experience we wont forget!
MoreMy wife and I had the absolute best time at the waterfall cave expedition! Ivan and Arnold were our guides and we couldn’t say enough good things about them. We had high expectations coming in, and they and the tour in general, far exceeded every one of them. We were debating between the very well-known ATM cave tours and this one, and we are so happy we chose Caves Branch. They were very professional, provided everything we needed, kept us safe, and were so much fun. The candlelight lunch in the cave was delicious as well! We are already looking forward to the next time we can go back to Caves Branch.
MoreOur 4 day stay at the Jungle Lodge was very relaxing. Room was simple but nice, overlooking the river. Cave excursions were quite fun and the guides were excellent. I highly recommend Caves Branch Lodge.
MoreWe had such a great time in our trip! Caves Branch was so beautiful! Their site could use some updates, for example it was not buffet style dining. Also the all inclusive packages did not include what the site states.
MoreAmazing cave tubing tour! A unique adventure. Attentive, friendly guides. Beautiful caves. Refreshing water activity on a hot day. You MUST do this when you visit Belize. We toured the resort after our excursion. I would definitely stay here on our next visit!
MoreIf you are concerned about covid, this is a good place to visit... they have strict covid protocols in place. Also if you want an adventurous time from rooms that makes you feel exposed and one with nature..... to tours that will give you a thrill... again this is the place to visit. Keep in mind... it is a Lodge!
MoreThe only reason this visit wasnt a total waste was that Ian Anderson himself had to correct his staff. Poor customer service and just almost down right spoken to as children or military recruit. Also no menus and basically no option on foods. The picture of food was the so called lunch in a cave. I only ate a tortilla.
MoreDidnt stay overnight but completed the Caving trip and the Black Hole Drop over 2 days and both were brilliant. Cannot recommend it enough, the staff are professional and friendly with tonnes of experience.Would definitely come back.
MoreFantastic place! Friendly and very helpful staff. Loved the tree house lodging, and some serious exercise to get to it! The excursions are varied and there are great options for all activity levels. The food is served family style so you really get to interact with other travelers. We would definitely go back.
MoreAwesome stay in our Canopy Treetop suite!Dont miss the botanical garden tour and Cheese Tasting and High Tea events. Outstanding staff!Met every expectation!
MoreStarting my day at the pool, a small wake to the river and lunch. Theirs nothing to complain about i truly loved it their. The staff are friendly witch bends right into the atmosphere.
MoreLoved the ambiance! The room made you feel like you were outdoors without actually being outdoors. Plush accommodations, refreshing pool and jaccuzi, just to name a few of the abundant ammenties! Definitely got to re-visit. The staff makes you feel right at home. Loved it!
MoreIts a new year and we decided to pack up and get out the house for a few days. It was a "spur of the moment" move, and we quickly decided on Caves Branch, even though we have never been or seen the place before.A few whatsapp messages here and there, our room was booked and we left for out weekend getaway. Upon arrival, we were greeted at the main entrance by Geo, who seemed to be in good spirits and treated us very kindly. Our family of 5 were all "sanitized" before continuing on our journey to our rooms and being given a quick tour of the property. We were reminded of COVID-19 regulations they had in place to keep us and other guests safe, which seemed to very reasonable and comforting knowing that they were taking it very seriously. After the walk thru we heads up to our beautiful room, which seemed to be more than what we needed to be comfortable. The kids were all amazed and the view from our room was breathtaking. Because we got in late, we spent most of our day hanging out at the room and winding down. Sometimes doing nothing is still doing a lot, and I was more than happy to be lazy :)The room was very clean, though I must mention that if youre looking for a "luxurious" experience, this is not the place for you. The room was very "rustic" and had a very welcoming vibe to it. You could easily settle in for a few days, as if youve been there before. There are minimal amenities included, but having said that, there as nothing we needed that wasnt there. After dinner, we got back to our room and enjoyed the sounds of wild life and my wife and kids went crazy over the bugs and creatures outside the room. We pulled in for the night, and with the sounds of the leaves brushing against the walls and the wildlife outside, sleeping was as easy as closing your eyes. The restaurant was more than I expected. The cost of our room included breakfast and dinner, and I honestly didnt expect much from either of the two. I was completely wrong in my expectations and the food was amazing. Portion sizes were spot on and flavors were amazing. I kinda felt bad not paying for my meals, and I had to remind myself that food was included in the room charge. We had two servers throughout our stay and both were very accommodating. There were times we ate at our room, and they actually took the food to us. Now to explain why this is a big deal:Our room was on the hillside. Being a very active person, who runs marathons and does physical challenges often, getting to the room consists of several flights of stairs and several inclined ramps. It gets my heart pumping every time. Having to do this with a tray of food shows dedication and deserves recognition. The next day we spend chilling at the river and by the poolside. Again, food was amazing and service top-notch. We were lways treated with respect and we didnt get the feeling of being rushed along. Before we knew it, it was dinner time again and we were pleased to know dinner would be a different menu than the night before. Food was still pretty amazing and we all left holding our bellies because of eating too much. Our last day was a lazy one for the kids, so we decided to take advantage of the botanical trail while the kids slept. Time was closing in on us, so we kinda rushed thru it. We still saw a lot and I personally find them to have the most extensive botanical trail than other resorts weve visited over the last few years. The rain began to set in, so we retired back to our room to begin the checkout process.Checking out was fairly quick and easy. This is worth mentioning because I have had horrible checkout experiences due to confusing bills and misunderstandings. Before we knew it, we were on our way back home, but hopefully well find some time to come back. Conclusion:If youre looking for a private getaway with good food and friendly service, this is the place for you. They take COVID very seriously and have many guidelines in place. The property is beautiful and if youre a nature lover, youll appreciate your stay even more.
MoreMy first time visiting and I was blown away by the site of such a beautiful place, it was pristine and relaxing. The best experience I walk away with was the hospitality that I received, their customer service was on point and they aimed to please. I would recommend this place 100%+ anytime.
MoreAbsolutely everything about our stay was perfect! Beautiful grounds, unique and wonderful accomodations, excellent meals that were beautifully plated, fantastic adventures, and world class service - I look forward to coming back!
MoreThis is a Jungle Lodge and holds true to its name; with the exception of a few amenities, this destination is truly rustic and most suitable for those who truly appreciate an unfiltered connection with nature. The staffs hospitality is second-to-none, the food is excellent, the drinks are well made and the ambience is spectacular. A must for nature lovers. Highly recommend.
MoreWe didn’t stay at the resort but booked a cave tour through them. Best tour we had during our entire trip. These are the people to use for an extreme adventure!! We even had lunch by candlelight in the cave. See y’all next time, thank you for a wonderful experience!
MoreWe love going there with my family ! delicious dinner buffet with plenty of options and surprises, nice pool often quiet during the day while all guests go on excursions and adventures, lovely cabanas down in the jungle and suites in the trees, we tried both and loved both.... heard the howler monkeys... loved the service, the botanical garden, the home made cheeses.... great place for family week ends !
MoreMy friends and I had an amazing stay at Caves branch resort. The rooms and meals were top notch, but the daily adventures were truly incredible. I recommend the black hole drop, but it’s not for the faint of heart!!! Thank you Ian!
MorePerfect honeymoon escape in the jungle. It was so magical and amazing. The room was like staying in a heavenly dream. Waking up every morning with coffee that they brought while watching the fog arise from the mountains and the sun peak threw the clouds just to say hi. The pool was romantic to relax in and just look up at the flowers in the trees of the jungle that felt like it was giving you a hug. Staffing was more than amazing. They accommodated us with everything we wanted or needed. The couples massage in the middle of the jungle while by a dancing river fills your ears with song was truly romantic.Oh dont forget to take home some of their cheese that they make there.....its amazing.
MoreVery attractive lodge/resort to visit. The rooms were very very spacious, very detailed and well thought out deco and design. The wood-works were very carefully finished and constructed with much planning to derive to such final product. The service was great and attentative. Except the restaurant staff were a bit in a rush to clear the tables and services once the allocated breakfast time had come to and end. I think for sure the lodge should install at least some small pathway or garden lights should and must be installed especially if the guests are not aware of forewarned that there are no lights along all the paths, which consists of many many steps and stairs to get to the various rooms from the restaurant or even from the front desk - and without a single illumination to see you way maneuvering up or down the many steps and walkways. To make matters worst even tho I was using the flashlight from my phone I still missed a step and went flying onto the ground on my all fours and did get a few scratches and bruises. Which could have been worst.
MoreThis place is a treat. The staff is extremely accommodating. The views are amazing. The food is top notch and there are always friendly people around. Definitely planning a trip back here. The upgraded rooms are worth every penny!
MoreWe had THE BEST trip at Caves Branch Jungle lodge. When we arrived, we were greeted at the airport by a representative from the lodge. He was so kind and even stopped so we could eat and pick up a few things at the store. Once at the hotel we were greeted and given a tour (which included free drinks). The first 2 nights we stayed in a river view tree house. It was beautifully decorated, had an amazing outdoor shower, and the view was fantastic! It really felt like we were sleeping up in the canopy. The other 2 nights we stayed in a cabana. It too had a great outdoor shower, hammocks on the porch, and was nicely decorated. However, if a tree house is available, that was our favorite. Each day we had a delicious breakfast (buffetand lunches were served on the excursion we were on (one was a picnic in a cave and the other 2 were local restaurants). We chose to do the cave tubing, zip-lining/zoo, and snorkeling excursions. Each adventure was so fun and they have a huge selection of things to do for all ages. Each day we had a different driver/guide and each one was great. Really everyone affiliated with the lodge was so kind and helpful. In the afternoon, once they had returned from their daily excursion, most guests gathered by the pool for snacks and cocktails, a game ping pong, a soak in the hot tub, or a walk through the nature path. Also, along the nature path, there is a outdoor massage pavilion. We had a massage and it was fantastic! Dinner is served buffet style and you sit according to your room number, so often you sit with another family. The dinners had TONS of food options served in 2 courses. They shut off the WiFi during dinner, so it was nice to see everyone talking rather than looking at their phones. You also talk with the staff during dinner and select your excursion for the following day. After dinner most people retreat to their rooms or hang around the pool area again. It was really one of the best trips weve ever been on and Ive told everyone it was kind of like camp for families, but with much nicer accommodations and food! They took care of everything and we felt very safe. Also, our kids, ages 9 & 12, were with us and they loved it as well.
MoreWhat a place! The cabins are open-air and surrounded by jungle. You go to sleep with the sound of crickets and wake up to birdsong. The landscaping is carefully tended by actual botanists, and the grounds are home to lots of native plants and animals. The staff are all so friendly and helpful, and the guides are extremely knowledgeable. The food is delicious and abundant. The adventure tours are challenging and sometimes scary, but your bravery is rewarded by beautiful views and unique experiences. The only tiny complaint I had is that the shower offered only two water choices-freezing or scalding. Apparently theyre working on fixing that, though, so maybe by the next time I visit, it wont be an issue.
MoreWe stayed in an amazingly romantic treehouse overlooking the Caves Branch river. Ian Anderson is a great host and a very seasoned resort manager. The adventure tours are fantastic - the caves of Belize deserve all the superlatives they can get, and Ians guides are thoroughly trained. I cant speak too highly of this resort.
MoreLocation: If this is showing up within the city of Belopan, its wrong. The resort is in the jungle just north of the Blue Hole National Park. If you search Ian Anderson Adventures in Belize, or Belize Tree House Resort at Cave Branch, or 17.167112,-88.683230, you will find the actual location.Accommodations: This is a true jungle resort. Your room will be gravel path through lush jungle to your bungalow, suite, treehouse, cabana, etc. You will likely get some minor spider webs and such on you in the morning, nothing crazy. At night, when coming from dinner, you will need a flashlight to go to your room as there is no path lighting and its gonna be pitch black at night. The rooms are surrounded by screens which does a very good job keeping the bugs out. I personally put a towel under the door for extra security as Im deathly afraid of roaches, which there were none. These screens give you a somewhat camping experience since you hear frogs and crickets at night and monkeys and birds in the morning. This means that even with ear plugs, you might have trouble sleeping so bring your favorite sleepy time meds. My bungalow had 2 ceiling fans, an AC (in a screened room lol), fridge, a spare outlet, and 4 USB wall sockets in addition to an inside and outside shower with a surprising amount of hot water. Depending on your particular room, you may or may not have the same as others traveling with me noticed.Pool: They have a 2 part pool with a series of water falls, a swim up bar, and hot tub.Staff: The staff was absolutely amazing and accommodated custom requests for everything. On several days we had to leave before breakfast so after we notified them, they made sure to make us some to-go boxes for both breakfast and lunch. Everyone is super nice and speaks perfect English and Spanish and is quick to help you with anything.Food: The meals are buffet style and are pretty good. They make their own cheeses on site which are very impressive. Much of the food is vegetarian friendly with sides of meat should you wish. If you notify them, they are glad to fry you up some fish if would like.Adventures: The adventures have to be booked in at least a day in advance. The ones I did are below:Cheese Tasting: We tasted around 5 or 6 cheeses made on site paired with various delicious fruit. They have red dragon fruit for some reason which ive never seen before. I recommend grabbing a bottle of wine at the bar.Bird Watching: This starts at 6AM. The guide is extremely knowledgeable in pointing out various species of birds around the trails on the resort in addition to making various on point bird calls. I was extremely jealous of his keen eyesight. He provides binoculars and a spotting scope. I managed to see a bunch of humming birds and 2 keen billed toucans streaming across the sky, in additional to other colorful winged critters.Waterfall Cave Expedition: DO NOT PASS THIS UP!!! Ive been to various cave tours in the US throughout my life. This was nothing like I ever experience before as you will need to be somewhat fit. You will encounter bats, spiders, crickets, crawfish, and catfish. None of which will bother you. As you make the several mile trip through the cave you will be walking on boulders, making long strides over divets and cracks, crouching under low ceilings, wading through creeks, swimming through water (in your pants), climbing a series of rocky waterfalls (with harness equipment), and should you choose, either jumping off the 12 foot water fall or repelling down. Do not bring anything that isnt waterproof, it will get wet. Then the guides make you lunch in the cave and you hike back out.Things to bring: Long pants, shorts, hiking shoes, slippers or water shoes, bug spray (I only got bit by 1 mosquito), sunscreen, ear plugs, sleeping pills, camera, spare phone charger, poncho, and a FLASHLIGHT!They have umbrellas everywhere for guest use so no need to bring and the dining hall has free WiFi.
MoreAbsolutely loved this place and the experience. Location is amazing. The room we had was fantastic. Great space with awesome view. Loved the outdoor shower, so peaceful. The staff was amazing, especially on check in and getting us to our bungalow. The large buffet style dinners were great. The resort offers a multitude of excursions and adventures. Will definitely visit again.
MoreThe first two days at Caves Branch was amazing... the staff, the guests, the view from the room! We had so much fun cave tubing and learned a lot about the culture. However, we chose to do a guided tour to Tikal and my husband and I ended up becoming VERY sick. The couple that went with us also become ill after eating lunch in Tikal National Park. We drank from bottled water and thought we would be safe eating at a place requested by the guide. We ended up staying in our room for the remainder of the trip at St. George’s resort. We had to cancel all of our excursions and ended up in the emergency room when we made it back to the US. We were sick 5 out of the 7 days of our honeymoon. All in all.. please be aware that you’re not always safe even when given recommendations from guides! I wouldn’t wish that illness on anyone.
MoreAmazing location, accommodations, adventures and staff! We went on a quick family trip and we were upgraded to a Canopy View Treehouse for the first night of our stay. Truly a one of a kind experience. We also went on the Waterfall Caveing tour, which was spectacular and a Birding trip where we saw almost 70 species of birds without even leaving the resort. They also lay claim to Belizes largest collection of different orchids. We missed the majority of the blooms (Aprilbut it was overall a great trip. Stefan and our guide Marvin were superstars!
MoreAccomadations are spectacular. The staff is very friendly, helpful and above all else very professional. The grounds are well maintained including a beautiful botanical garden. There are many fun activities including cave river tubing, descending down into a cave, and many other wonderful nature activities. The tree house has both an indoor shower and an outdoor shower. Being further south in Belize it is located in the mountain side providing some breath taking views.
MoreFrom the moment we stepped out of the van onto the facility we knew this would be special. All the staff, the well appointed rooms, the amazing paths and gardens. The food, the excursions. Not the place to go if you are looking to Hang Out. But if you want some real life jungle experiences that are truly exhilarating and will create amazing memories...GO NOW. We just love the people of Belize and respect them a lot for their dedication to their country and building a better life. We had such a great time we will definitely be back. We stayed 4 nights and that was perfect amount of time. Freddy, Lauren and Ed are a couple local treasures. Had a chance to speak with Ian who is very engaging and a great host. GO NOW!!
MoreThis place was amazing. Hands down one of the best places I have ever stayed at while traveling. Staff is incredibly helpful and friendly, the food was delicious, and the adventure tours were much better than expected. Would definitely go back!
MoreAMAZING PLACE! Ive been here several times now and the staff always treat me like family! The food is also incredible! The daily adventures are unforgettable, wether its cave tubing, hiking through the thick jungle, visiting Mayan ruins or zip lining you will not regret coming here! Its like going to summer camp, only MUCH BETTER! 😊👍
MoreThe only thing I can really complain about is they wouldnt let me drink a coke with my breakfast - which is a little silly. The staff was genuinely kind and caring - they all wanted to learn your name and help you. The food was good and genuine to region. There is NO AIR CONDITIONING and we went in the off season which means HOTTER so that was a little rough. There is an excursion for almost all levels although I would not recommend this or Belize in general for the elderly or infirm it is more of an active vacation. The seating is family style and you get to know the other familys and what they are up to - it almost felt like we were at a family camp it Belize. I cannot imagine going to Belize, especially with a family and passing up a chance to stay at Caves Branch!
MoreWe had a flight change and called Ian Anderson Caves Branch last second to book a room for one night and two of their adventures. They were very accommodating. I was amazed at how well organized and clean everything looked when we showed up. We showed up at 8am and did a half check-in at the front desk, where they took our bags so that we could go straight to our first adventure. We were told that our bags would be waiting in our room when we got back. We had a great time on our adventure and were really looking forward to getting back to our room and taking a shower, but when we got there, our bags were nowhere to be seen. I had to walk around and find someone who had to then track down our bags. I was not happy that our bags were left out all day and unaccounted for. The room itself was a hut with one big room, a bathroom, and a nice porch with a hammock. Very cool. We loved everything about our room, except for the bed. For the price we were paying, the bed shouldn’t have felt 30 years old. Neither of us got a good night’s sleep. My husband and I were blown away by how tasty dinner was. All meals were served at a certain time though and were a flat cost with different courses. I have food allergies and felt like I was paying for a bunch of food that I couldn’t eat. Sadness… Because this hotel/resort is in the middle of nowhere, they have a monopoly on food. We happened to bring a bunch of fruit with us from our last hotel, so we didn’t have to worry about food too much because we were only staying one night. However, there was nowhere to store the food, like a fridge, and a bat got into our room at night and ate quite a bit of the fruit. We told the front desk thinking they would go remove the bat(sbut they just laughed about it. I understand that we are in the jungle but they should care about animals getting into the guest’s rooms and should take action to humanly remove them.We liked the resort grounds a lot. It had a garden, a hot tub, and a pool with a waterfall and bar. I was also surprised when we went to checkout that they gave me a paper to write down tip amounts for kitchen, room service, tour guides and such. Not only did it make me feel put on the spot but we hadn’t been there long enough to even use some of the categories they were suggesting we tip in and there were others that I felt they were lacking greatly in.The other thing this resort has a monopoly on is transportation. There transportation to and from Caves Branch is much more expensive than if you make your own arrangements, and there isn’t any easy way of making arrangements once you get there. If you don’t make arrangements beforehand, you are stuck paying their cost, which is about twice what it is with some other company. I think that this place has great potential because of its beautiful location, amazing tours/adventures and organization, but that they fell short on a few very important things.
MoreMy family of four (dad, mom, 15 year old daughter, and nine year old sonvery much enjoyed our stay at and recommend Ian Andersons Caves Branch Adventure Co. & Jungle Lodge. We stayed in cabin 15 on an all-inclusive package from June 16 – 20th, 2015, and went on the river cave and the black hole expeditions and the Xunantunich and Cahal and the Tikal Mayan ruins tours. All were very good. While not really very far from the road, the lodge really seems to be in the jungle. You do not see or hear any road noise. Rooms have neither air-conditioning nor a/c outlets. Our cabin had four USB ports to recharge phones, etc. but none of the North Americans could get cell service there (although the employees cell phones seemed to work welland there is no wifi there so cell phones where used for cameras (or organizers). They have an old PC with internet connectivity in the dining area that you can use – good enough to check emails, surf the web a bit, but dont plan on streaming any movies...Cabin 15 is very nice. Ceiling fans, lamps, nice bathroom with hot and cold water and western-style toilet. We had plenty of windows but no glass in the windows, just fly screens. There was a sky light and a private outdoors shower area and two nice hammocks. It is dark by 8pm and there is no TV. The mosquitoes are most active at about 7pm (duskand again around 6 or 7am (full daylight). During the day they are not bad. There is a nice pool complex and there are some books and board games in the dining area if you dont want to go to sleep at 8 or 9pm. The bar is open to 9:30pm.The jungle is loud at night! All sorts of noises from about 8pm on. While I am used to quiet, these are “natural” noises and I quickly fell asleep. At about 5am daylight breaks and the general jungle noises are overlaid with something close to the sound track from Disneys Tikki Room! The birds start going at it with a vengeance. I found it wonderful but hard to sleep through. Nevertheless, it was a good, fun experience. The food is good and plentiful, but they do fill you up on chips, etc. just before dinner. Breakfast is pretty much the same every day including cereals, eggs, breakfast meat, fresh tropical fruit, and, for reasons that escape me, warm cookies. Anderson runs a tight ship. The employees are nice, friendly, helpful and seem to be well taken care of – generally appeared in good health, some had dental work visible or braces on. I got there early one morning while they were setting up for breakfast and I saw one guy using a ruler to measure distances between place settings – Downton Abbey style (in the jungle!).I would strongly recommend Caves Branch for a four to seven day family vacation trip. There are plenty of expeditions and tours, the place is well run and both adults and children seem to really enjoy it. The facilities are very well maintained and the place is well organized for relaxation and fun. The one thing to note or be aware of is the “extra” fees charged for some expeditions/tours. We did the zip line extra on our river cave expedition. It was 45 minutes to an hour of instructions, walking, and about six zip line rides. At U.S.$75 per person, I thought it was overpriced. You are actually zipping (way?less than five minutes total, and with a family it is pretty expensive. If you have never zip lined and want to, it may be worth it, but I am sure there are much better deals elsewhere (including places in Belize).
