Place has potential but very bad maintenance. The submarine museum in Vishakhapatnam is so much better. We visited here expecting the same but that is not the case. Even the person at ticket counter says that there is no maintenance performed here. They should learn some things from the submarine museum and apply the same here.

Very nice. Its best place to take kids along with and also the museum is well maintained. But there is no reserved parking place.so u have to park below flyover. Also due to new flyover construction this place is go unrecognised while you are moving in the highway. So better plan and visit this place.

This is an actual decommissioned navy warship that has been converted into museum. A beautiful museum that depicts the life of Indian navy in the waters. The old age of the warship van be clearly observed as there is no maintenance. You just have to buy the tickets and go through the warship looking at the various sections of the ship. Theres nothing that will guide you or brief you about the ship and the Indian navy.Worth one visit. Nothing much to explore.

We visited this warship museum recently. Its informative and nice way to learn about the 1971 war and Navys role in the decisive victory. Views of the Arabian sea from the ship deck are amazing. The ship premises are generally well maintained but pandemic seems to have affected the housekeeping a bit. The place closes at 1pm which is a bit disappointing. The ship deck would make for a nice sunset view point of it remained open at evening. Overall a pleasant experience.

INS Chapal Warship Museum at Rabindranath Tagore Beach in Karwar, Karnaka is a must visit place for all, local and tourists alike. The museum is built in an original frigate of Ossa 2 type named INS Chapal. The 375 toone-ship was commissioned in Indian Navy in 1971. It took part in the naval blockade of Karachi port of Pakistan during the 1071 Indo-Pak war, and fired one of its 4 SAMs. The ship was decommissioned in 2005, and brought here, put up ashore and converted into a museum. It is kept in a beautiful garden. People can enter the park by paying a nominal fee (Rs 15/- only per adult as of today, 14 Nov 2021). On entering the park area, you can see the big frigate parked on the shore, with one of its SAMs displayed in front. There are two torpedoes too, but those two are not among the armaments of INS Chapal.Youve to climb a stair to enter the ship under polite and courteous guidance of the attending staffs.First they will lead to a small auditorium where a 10-minute video show is screened to show the gist of the major activities of the Indian Navy. Then a guided tour is conducted by the staffs to show the various parts of the ship where one can see the Captains room, the Officers rooms, the engine room etc. However, the most attractive is the life-like statue of the captain on the steering wheel staring in front. The anti-aircraft gun on the front turret is also highly fascinating. The 4 huge missile-tubes, two on either side is simply awe-inspiring.When one comes down from the ship after visiting the museum, he or she is simply awe-struck.Thanks for the Authority who has put up such a grand show.

Its just enroute to Karwar( Goa - Ankolaright next to the Highway (elevated highway construction is going onnext to the museum you have the Karwar beach its very beautiful too the local authorities have well maintained the sandy shores with modern equipments to clean the shores. Anyways you too can play a vital role by not throwing garbage thus ensuring cleanliness of beach for that matter any location. There is an entry fees of 15rs for adults to Warship Museum but its worth it.

One of the best pleasant surprises we had in recent times. We had bit of time at our hand and visit to this place was spontaneous. Total worth of the small entry fee of rs15 per head. A old time naval warship on display and self exploring was a treat. Maintenance is questionable, however idea to put something like this together is a very good one. We spent more time then expected exploring the warship and observing various aspects of the same. Proximity being near to the highway makes it very easy to access. A must visit for anyone passing through the route.

Newly constructed war museum is a nice place on the highway 66 and and the bank of Rabindranath Tagore beach of karwar. This 38.6 metre long warship Chapal was decommissioned in the year 2005. The entry fee of ₹30/- is worth for having a glance to this warship. The adjoining garden area is also maintained well. The only suggestion would be to post a trained sailor so that he can explain in details.

Excellent display of Indian Navy Ship, Chapal near Karwar. The site has many informative posters about the formation, history and current capabilities of the Indian Navy.Being able to walk around and see the inside of the ship is really interesting as well, especially for all the geeks and aficionados! You can see the narrow passages, engine rooms, crew quarters, on board torpedo launchers, and various other parts on this ship. The entry ticket of ₹15 is more than worth it!

Good place to spend the evening. The war memorial was beautiful when it had opened a few years back. But now, after being manhandled by tourists and being neglected by locals, its condition is far from its Glory days. The local authorities are spending a lot on improving and maintaining the garden around the ship but the same care is not being provided to the warship. The ship is getting dusty and rusty, the information displayed on the plaques is not legible, the display cases have grown dusty, all in all the interior is not how it used to be. If you visit this place, please treat it with respect.
