I Monelli Authentic Italian Restaurant - Italian restaurant in Dublin, Ireland
A perfect neighbourhood Italian restaurant; unpretentious and warm-hearted atmosphere and service. Gorgeous and reasonably priced food and wine - in other words - perfetto
Great cosy place, the food is delicious.. highly recommended place to visit. great location
Service very slow, served the main course only to tell 2 of the party that they didnt have what they asked for. Staff seemed to be just shouting at each other. Very bad experience and will not be dining here again, either will any of our party.
As an Italian Ill give this 3 stars as unfortunately the name is not reflected in the actual quality of the food which is quite far from authentic Italian taste. Having said that the place and staff are nice
Fantastic authentic Italian restaurant. Attentive staff ,great location and resonable prices .will definitely revisit
Highly recommended, last Sunday I had dinner there with my friends , the food was amazing, the staff were very friendly definitely will be back again.
Best Italian food Ive had in Dublin. Food is amazing and the staff are nice, definitely recommend it to anyone!
Was pretty good, dropped a star because the brocoli was over cooked and soggy, for the prices Id expect a little better. The staff were very nice.
Our waitress assisted us to choose from the menu offerings. She took the time to listen to our tastes and appetites. She had great recommendations and the kitchens incredible talents were evident in the resulting delicious dishes that came to the table one after the other. We enjoyed fresh handmade pastas, served with luscious sauces that complemented the freshest seafood, vegetable and meats. The portions were perfect, the flavors were extremely pleasing and our meals exceeded our expectations in every way. Even though we were not sure that we had any room to continue after the entrees, we ordered desserts. Our willingness to continue the culinary experience was rewarded. Instead of being heavy after a large meal - they were light and flavorful - paired with an espresso we were ready to face the town again. A fitting end to a great, world-class dining experience. Many, many thanks to everyone who took care of us and fed us so well. Torneremo a mangiare di più! We appreciate you all! Kermit and Sarah
This is an authentic Italian restaurant in a great location! Just had a drink this time but definitely coming back for more!
Nice place, decent service, but the food is super average and a bit on the bland side.Seafood pasta had lots of seafood in it, but was really bland. Risotto was quite nice, but super small portion. duck was overcooked and had barely any sauce. The safron panacota was delicious though to end the dinner
We really felt like we were back in Italy. We had aperitifs, the mixed plate of meat & cheeses to start, then two pasta dishes and tiramisu for dessert. Everything eas delicious and we felt reasonably priced for Dublin.Well definitely be back and are kicking ourselves for not coming here sooner.
This was the best Italian food I have ever tried not only abroad but also in Italy itself .In every dish youll try in the menu you can taste the true olive oil tomatoes etc.Food was so tasty and fresh full of flavor and the service was amazing, staff were very attentiveThe spaghetti with lobster was an excellent choice 100% recommended.
Have been to I Monelli a couple of times and it has always been a lovely meal. The most recent meal was a 4/5. The service was quite slow for a Thursday but it was reasonably busy. ... the food was nice, for starter i had the arancini was a lil burn on the outside but was still nice, the ragu cannelloni was delish lots of flavour.. I will defo visit again.
Starting off by saying I’ve never left a bad review in my life. In regards to staff, they were not the problem at all and the live music was lovely. So were the starters, which is why I’m leaving two stars and not one. Where it started to go south was the mains. We ordered four main dishes. Only one ended up being edible. What really put me off though and had me leave this review was that I asked the waiter if I could get just plain buttered pasta for my 14 month old son. I was brought out a small bowl and when the bill came I was charged €13. Come to find out they charged for an entire meal when not only did I not ask for it, but we weren’t even offered the soft drink or dessert that made it into a meal! Even if they had offered, a 14 month old can’t have either so I never would have agreed. Absolutely ridiculous. Will not be returning.
Unfortunately the food here is probably the worst Italian food experience I have ever had. It blows my mind how this has 5 start reviews. It doesnt please me to leave a bad review as businesses come out of covid, but the dishes were terrible and shocking that a simple ravioli can be messed up woth terrible bland sauces/ swimming in a pool of thin sauce. I had the duck which was a pool of water from the overly soggy broccoli. The location is fantastic, the food if worst I had in 5 years in Dublin. This restaurant can really do something special if they just fire the chef and get a real one. It tasted like they used veg cooking oil on the pasta which made it taste horrendous. Please hire a proper chef and make something out of this great location. SUCH A LOST OPPORTUNITY.We also asked for pasta cooked with some oil and cheese on top. We ended up being charged for the full 3 course kids meal when all we got was a small penny pasta plate with some Parmigiano on top. €13.Will never eat here again as long as this ameture chef works here. Staff was kind a d some live music of a guitar player was nice.
Stunning vegan meal! Amazing to have a really good vegan menu. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and gorgeous food. Would highly recommend.
Great food. The chicken supreme was supreme. Chicken that tasted like chicken. I plan to return with friends so they see for themselves.
Nice food, relaxing environment. Pricy but good food. I didn’t like that much parmigiana, which was tasteless, small and expensive. Very cold inside, bring a coat. Friendly staff.
What a wonderful Italian restaurant. The pasta was the best that I’ve ever had. Service spot on. Hope that we have time to visit one more time before we return to canada. Thank you for continuing to provide such exceptional, authentic food and experience.
Starters - calamari and arancini - and desserts were great. Sadly the pasta mains were microwaved. Cannelloni crispy and dried out at the edges, lukewarm in centre. The venison ragu sauce had separated in microwave and pasta was floating in the red wine liquid part of the sauce. A real let down after delicious starters. Service great
Charming restaurant next to the Grand Canal. Authentic Italian flavours and exceptional service!
Absolutely lovely. Had a great experience there. Staff is very polite too and Josi very friendly leads us to the best plates choice.
Solid meal with a group of Co workers. Restaurant is cozy but clean, wait staff attentive but not annoying. Food was generally quite good, nobody was disappointed with their choices of mains and the appetizers were quickly demolished.
I Monelli is the best pasta I have ever eaten! I do not say that lightly. Everyone in the kitchen really knows what they’re doing. From start to finish every part of this meal was perfection. Our waiter was knowledgeable and very personable. We were very well attended throughout the entire experience. Typically I do not opt for dessert after dinner but after tasting the pasta we knew we’d be missing out on something if we skipped it. So glad we went all out with wine, an appetizer, pastas, dessert and digestifs. It was all delicious.I Monelli is a very special place! I would give it 100 stars if I could.
Food is very average. The restaurant ambience and location is great. Staff is good too. But the food was way below our expectations. Also they have a set menu for kids for 13euros that has mains (and pizza was over when we reached, so we had to go for pasta+ ice cream + coke or orange juice. My kid is 2 years old and this doesnt make sense. Not impressed mainly because of the taste and portions of the food. Expensive for what it is.
I waited 40minutes to get a table that I booked. Staff was absolutely unhelpful, everyone just ignoring us and not advising when the table will be ready. When we approached someone for the third time- response was “I don’t manage reservations”. There were other two couples as well queuing for the table they booked. We were left to wait at the door step in front of kitchen. After 40min we left as still no one was assisting us.
Hadnt eaten Italian for a while but will definitely be going back. Perfect setting, great ambience, excellent food. Really friendly service which made for a great experience.
Great staff who provide a warm welcome. The restaurant is wonderfully situated beside the canal. The restaurant itself has a somewhat tired decor and the food is unimpressive.
Dont be miffed by the simple menu in the window - good luck finding a better authentic pasta and sauce this side of Italy - lucky enough to find and decide to enter this small place around St. Patricks Day and only wish I had another day to make another visit - thank you!
Overall a good eating out experience. The service is ultracaring and the food is good.To my taste the fish was overcooked and overflavoured , but then again , "some likes it hot".The blue cheese gnocchi my daughter had where delicious and so the pappardelle with mushrooms and truffle oil.Well be back
Just had dinner and the service was very good. Everyone really nice and the waiter really on the ball.Food was delicious and real Italian! Lovely wine and nice atmosphere overall. Well be back :)
I have been there yesterday with my team from work. Initially we had reserved for 6 people but then needed to increase to 9, which was no issue for the staff and capacity of the restaurant - thanks! The atmosphere inside is very nice and seems like in a classic Italian restaurant.I had the Vitello tonato as starter, then the papardelle al ragu followed by a tiramisu. The quality of the food was very good. The dishes were tasty and presented in an appealing way.I give “only” 4 stars, as the portions were quite small considering the rather high prices.Overall, we had a very nice evening and the food was great! Will go there again but maybe being slightlyless hungry.
A great Italian restaurant in front of the iconic Portobello canal. The staff is amazing.
Nice relaxing bite to eat and glass of wine in late Sep sun. Lovely salad, relaxing canalside vibe
Everything was delicious! Will definitely come back again for dinner, they have a nice decor, friendly staff, and good service :)
Great Restaurant, located in a quiet area with tables outside facing the Canal. The food is well presented. I would go back some day.
Delicious food, served elegantly (with Italian charm, of course!in a very pleasant & welcoming atmosphere...Cant wait to get back to I Monelli, once indoor dining starts again....
Amazing. I had a vegetarian meal, never tasted a delicious food like that. I surely recommend it.
On first impression. Quaint little restaurant. Had high expectations going in for food but was quite disappointed by the food. While the flavors of the pasta was great and fresh, under cooked pasta is the most basic thing you shouldn’t go wrong with. The service was polite but after explaining to the waitress that the food was under cooked there was no apology or remedy given.Disappointed and won’t be going back.
In a word: Magnificent. This hidden gem along the Portobello canal line is a must for anyone wanting to indulge themselves on fine wine and even finer foods. I Monelli brought us back to Italy with their authentic Italian food. The waiting staff are lovely and professional. The atmosphere was quaint and romantic. Overall absolutely fabulous. The starters have a huge range of choices from fish to veal or vegetarian options but we decided to have sides as our starters with some baked baby potatoes and sauteed broccoli ndujia (absolutely delicious). For our mains my partner had a vegetarian homemade tagliatelle with selected mushrooms, truffle oil and shaved "Parmigiano" cheese (foreground of attached photoand I had the homemade Pappardelle pasta with venison ragout and Barbera wine reduction (background of photo). We had a lovely red salice salentino wine to compliment our meal too. These mains were so well balanced and flavourful. Two of the best Italian dishes we have had. Finally I had a vanilla ice cream with an Italian espresso shot and my partner had the coffee Mousse with Italian Biscuit. A lovely and light dessert to finish the experience.I cannot recommend this authentic Italian restaurant enough. Grazie!
Delicioso pasta, great service, and amazing wine. I would definitely return. My fiancés pasta with seafood was so delicious I kept stealing a bit. My beef pasta was also great, but hers was the standout. Had olive oil and balsamic that was to die for. Ill definitely return.
The food was good , it didnt "Wow me " but the service was 10 of 10 . It a quite expensive restaurant, you should be able to finish dinner and be very satisfied , Was dinnner of 6 people and we all thought the same ,Sorry but was not a "Wow "
I’ve had the pleasure to eat at I Monelli and the quality of the food is amazing! The ingredients are fresh and the dishes are tasty. Good place if you would like to feel like in Italy.
Food was nice, but rather small portions. There is not a lot of choice in what you can order. Would really recommend the tiramisu though!
The best Italian restaurant in Dublin with no doubt. Since we moved to here is our choice for an authentic italian dish. All the staff are nice and friendly in special the manager always making everyone comfortable and happy. Certainly a must go.
Went here on a Sunday night with a group of 10 friends for dinner. Reservation needed because the place is literally the best! We all had three different courses. I can highly recommend the Gambas as a starter, the strawberry sauce is just delicious. For the main, I had the monkfish in poppy seed crush. Never having eating monkfish before, I was positively surprised. Overall, the restaurant and the experience we had were beyond my expectations. Service was so quick even though we were such a large group. I will definitely come back!
If you are looking for a real italian experience, this is the place to go. Wonderful service, delicious food, elegant atmosphere. Will definitely come back when Im in Dublin.
I dont like to be negative but unfortunately there really wasnt anything I enjoyed here, the food was not good at all, ordered a salad and mix vegetable soup for starters, the salad was very bitter rocket, with huge slices of parmesan cheese with a vinegar dressing which we ended up leaving as it was awful. As for the vegetable soup had very little taste and seemed like it was steamed veg served with hot water with some tomato puree added. The mains we ordered pasta with mushroom sauce, the pasta was cooked well but the sauce was awful, tasted of mushrooms mixed with heaps of sugar. And too top it all we got charged for tap water, it was much but the dishes werent cheap and to be charged a euro for tap water was not good.Overpriced awful food avoid this place.
Love it!! Its a must if you like authentic Italian food, absolutely delicious. Gianni was nice. Staff is super friendly. Went here for NYE 16 and its been one of my best dinners in awhile.
