Hunan Chinese Restaurant in Ponca City

I like Hunans very much. Good variety of foods, even for those who are not Asian food fans. Always clean, and an excellent wait staff.

This is not even close to the Hunans restaurant that I used to frequent! Was very disappointed. Weve tried it three times in the last few months and they possibly need to train their Cooks. It used to be so delicious. Fair prices. Wont be trying it again for a long time. I truly hope they improve. It makes me sad because it used to be a really good restaurant.

Always love coming here. The food tastes and looks good! The shrimp were new which I was super happy about, although they could’ve cleaned them a little better. We always go at 11am while the food is still hot and they first open. Staff is always friendly and welcoming

We did a take-out meal this time. Over half of order was missing, other part of was wrong, way overcharged... The ladies at checkout did politely attempt to correct the errors though....Two phone calls and two trips later🤷🏻‍♀️

I just want to say I have been going to hunans for a long time even when they were back in the plaza. The older couple that used to own it were amazing couple. They were so welcoming. Anyway I have only been there a handful of times since they left and the food has been terrible and the place is not very clean the floors are sticky and the tables are so sticky that everything stuck to it cause of the furnish has been ruined. The whole just gives me the creeps. The food was not fresh and I had to ask for some of the food to be put out on the bar. But I will say the waitress and the lady at register was amazing and caring. I hate giving bad reviews but this place used to be my favorite restaurant I would eat there 3 times a week to two weeks. 😫

We are in town for a family get together. There are 38 of us, about half kids, from an infant to 3yr old to 5 yr old to 12 & 13.We called Hunan out on Prospect to advise them we were coming, so they could freshen/ back up the buffet. They opened a party room for us, which was great. We greatly appreciated them doing that for us.We were all pretty disappointed with most everything else, except the table service. Pretty sure they added tip to ticket (which, to me, was totaled in a very odd way. Total number adults, total number kids. Payer for each group, go to register & say how many adults& kids in your individual group. I wanted individual group tickets, I was afraid there would be people left on their ticket after we had all paid & gone!BUT! Floor was so sticky our shoes stuck to floor, making it hard to walk. The tables were all just as sticky as the floors. I tried cleaning one with wet napkins. Table was so sticky, napkin didnt want to move!Buffet wasnt kept up. I pointed out a couple of empty pans to who I thought was the manager, & she said yeah, it takes 25 minutes for the chicken to cook. No back-ups, with regular customers PLUS a large group coming in? I did manage to snag about 5 pieces of fried okra.When time came for dessert, everyone just had a cup of ice cream. When I went to the dessert bar, I saw why! There were lots of empty pans, 1 piece of ?cheesecake?, & a couple of dry something or other, plus an almost full pan of vanilla pudding. I told 3 employees as they passed by, waited a bit for pans to be filled, which didnt happen, so I had...ice cream.The plates & silverware were clean; drinks were refilled once we all got drinks.Nobody was in a uniform. Person I pegged as manager was wearing a t-shirt & shorts. Not what I expect from a professional! All in all a very disappointing experience!

Where do I start. I don’t ever leave reviews. We drove from Enid to go to the lake and decided to stop and eat. The bathrooms were gross!! The waitress brought us drinks and that’s it. Didn’t seem very friendly at all!! The table was sticky and there was NO FRESH FOOD on the buffet. This is the worst place I have ever eaten.

The only thing Ive found that I like here is the sesame seed chicken. Food seems off from other places. Table was sticky. Not a bad place but not my favorite Chinese.

Wonderful wait staff, great food, and the company actually takes care of its employees by giving them more than a day off a week

It is not a Chinese buffet as such, the food they make or earn does not feed it for my poor quality

Let me start by saying, the staff was friendly and the food was ok..The tables that were suppose to be clean, still had food on them, the ceiling tiles are nasty and the ceiling vents had mold/mildew on them! Not very clean! Not sure I would go back

Very impressed great staff, great food. McKenzie was my waitress and she did great I had my 2 kiddos and my sister had her 4 and she kept up with the drinks keeping table cleared from plates after done eating great worker for sure. 👍👍

I was here on 03/19/22. I hate to leave a bad review but this was hands down the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had and I eat Chinese often. The place was clean and the staff was super friendly but the food was terrible. I decided after testing all the Chinese items on my plate I couldn’t eat it so went and got another plate with all American food, it was bad as well. Even the ranch dressing on the salad bar was gross. They need to find a new place to order their food or maybe the cook doesn’t know how to spice it up. Idk but it all looked fresh it just tasted bad. We came straight home and luckily got invited to the neighbors cookout.

Have been going to this place for many many years !!! Great people (ownerssome employees do have a stinky attitude but its all good. She wasnt our server.Ive loved this place for years but the new staff I dont care for. 😔 Food still okay but tonight was old food.

Some times its a real hit or miss. But my lanta today was a BANGER OF A HOME RUN!!! Great service friendly staff at the front desk. Food was nice an greasy, yet still fresh! Lets just say if you gotta use the potty before you leave. You know it was good 😁

Food has a odd soapy taste to it especially the sweet n sour chicken. Nothing is ever fresh and hot. The only good thing here is the service which is always kind and courteous.

Absolutely horrible food. Tasted like it was there for a while. We asked the waitress if they were going to put fresh up there and was told they were adding to it. The new stuff they put up wasnt fresh either.

Pros- Service was good, staff was nice, music sounded authentic and nice.Cons- Table was sticky, buffet choices are limited, too many flies, ceiling appeared kind of dirty, some of the food was cold.

Decent food for a buffet & kind wait staff. Their choices have been reduced and the restaurant isnt being kept up as well. We dont live in ponca anymore so we dont go all the time and the downgrades were a lot more noticeable this time.

Typical Chinese-American fare. Food was not extremely salty like other buffets ( BIG PLUS ). Small selection of food. Price was very fair. Place had a lot of guests yet atmosphere was quiet and enjoyable. I will return if I come through the area again.

Waitress left and no one took over her tables. Food not labeled well for people with allergies. Food was ok but not great It was clean and fish tank was cute.

This is a buffet, we got a variety of food. All was tepid or just plain cold.While my sister went to talk to front desk about it and the bill, the waiter came by and asked how our meal was. I told him the food was cold. He was very aggressive and said just quit complaining and go. I got up and said what, say that to my face and he said just go being very forceful. It was a very bad experience and I have never been treated like that. We talked to the front staff about his behavior, said they would report it. Other, people saw it and said it was so disrespectful and appalling. They would never eat there.They other part of this equation, would be the temperature of the food health wise. We plan on calling the health department.A truly bad experience for our party! Dont go there!!

First impression was an oriental man who appeared to the a cook, riding a lawn mower and cutting the restaurants grass with his white apron on. Smell inside was of pinsol, baby powder and dirty diapers. The hostess had a small infant on her hip. There were more children running around then paying customers. Food was old, unmarked at the buffet and the restrooms doors appeared to not have been wiped in months.

Good food, kept fresh with lots of variety. Reasonable prices. I like the buffet and the facility. It is a large building and the buffet bars are spread out foor easy access.

Even though it was busy the staff was attentive and the food was great! My family loves this place!

This was the absolute best Chinese Restaurant Buffet we have ever been to. The atmosphere was perfect, staff was friendly and efficient and the price was awesome. Whenever we are in the Tulsa area, we will be sure to stop!

The decor and service is alright but we came right around dinner time and all the food was kind of old, and the ingredients seem fake. I wish they had healthier not friend options. I wish every single thing wasn’t deep fried.

Oh Man Where Do I Start!! Terrible service, Food. Woof.. We had to move frome where we was eating. The air conditioning dripping on ny son & our table. Dont know if we ate it. Not to mention the Flys & nats. Wow. We looked up & Mold up all around the air conditioner. Geez they need to update on Everything there. I used to eat there many many years ago & I stopped cuz i went to the restroom & seen a baby mouse dead by the stall. Made me barf. So 5/7 years later. Its still A 👎.. Never Again Learned My Lesson. Was rather disappointed in the dining experience.Ambient music was 1960s elevator musac.Some of the food was extremely hot but most was luke-warm at best.Had to fight the flies at my table to keep them from my food.One man was asking the kitchen staff if anything had coconut in it because apparently that man was allergic to coconut but the kitchen staff person was very rude to him.It has been a few years since I last ate there and it will be several more years before I return, which is too bad because Hunans USED to be my favorite place in Ponca City to eat.

The food was good. Its a buffet. They have a decent selection. Not something you would write home over, just a really decent meal at a decent price.50.00 for 5 people including drinks, one of which is a 6 foot 4 and a half 14 year old with a hollow leg. We all left contently full.However, my 5 stars is for the staff.I am absolutely impressed with the staff and how amazingly attentive they were.I am in congestive heart failure, (18% Heart functionand we decided to take the kids to the buffet as a break from our reality.I can barely walk, and had my walker with me. I am outrageously slow and every couple of steps I take, I start coughing like I have the plague, and that slows me down even more. (i always cough into my shirt when Im in public as it sounds horrible). I promise its not something that can be cought, it just kinda jump starts my heart.Anyway, Im also pretty independent as to not burden my children and husband more than I have too. I sent them on to get their food, and meandered my way around the buffet tables.And I lost my strength and stamina and started to physically tremble. My husband noticed as he watches me like a hawk and I handed him my plate and asked him to go get me some rice from the other side of the buffet.I stood still at the edge of the buffet waiting, and this amazing man from the kitchen came out immediately to my side to make sure I was ok. (Slender dark hair man with white apron)He was kind and loving, and looked so worried. I reassured him I was fine, and he hesitated to leave, but politely excused himself. He stood just out of sight and watched me as I slowly made my way back to the table.He repeatedly peeked out of the kitchen to check on me. He did it without making me feel uncomfortable. That is key!I was treated with class, and grace, where usually I am treated like an insurance claim waiting to happen.It was really amazing to see such kindness from a stranger. I just wish I got the young mans name.Our server was Ashley. She was so attentive and kind also.The ( red hair - malehost at the front counter was absolutely darling and polite and professional.EVERY single member of the staff that we had contact with was astronomically professional and simply amazing.The crew at this buffet made such an effort of "service" with our family, that Im impressed.Whoever hand picked this crew knew what they were doing and should be proud of their Team!Thank you so much for the compassion you all showed, in an industry that is fast paced and impersonal at times.Yall really made an amazing impression and we will be back again, the next time Im able to walk.

Super friendly staff. Greeted by fish tanks filled with fish. They personally seat you. Nice spread. Needed some crab meat. Perhaps a seafood salad would be nice. They keep everything fresh. Salad and dessert bar. ice cream with sprinkles. They keep your drinks full. Best Chinese buffet Ive had in a long time.

Food was good but we ate the lunch buffet not off the menu. The buffet selection was good and the food was fresh. Our total with 2 buffets and 2 drinks came to $19 and some change. The wait staff was excellent! So many times when you get the buffet your left wanting a refill on a drink or you dropped your fork and need a new one and there is no waitress/waiter to help you out. That was simply not the case here. I usually go to another chiness buffet however my favorite closed down so figured we would give this place a try and we were not dissappointed. My favorite thing about this resturant is their crab rangoon was made with crab meat (have no clue if it was real or not). Most places crab rangoon is just cream cheese and no crab but this place had the crab! My only complaint was it felt hot to me and I was sweatimg. My wife of coarse thought it fwlt great because she is always cold. Im hoping it was just wear we were seated because I would really like to tey this place again.

My experience everytime is great! The food is tasty, the building is exceptionally clean, and the employees have an altruistic attitude. Though some of the waiters/waitresses are young, they are experienced and do a great job. The food is prepared well and fresh. The staff does a good job of maintaining the restrooms clean. I always enjoy coming here. The pond with lily pads and koi fish is really cool. I think that is one of the best things the restaurant has.

We eat there a lot it is always hot an good wait staff all ways friendly an Johnny on the spot to get any thing u need or just take your empty plates out of your way drop by give it a try you wont be sorry . Dont matter how many people one or twenty they will take good care of you

The costomer service was poor. We changed tables 3 times,the first because the ceiling was leaking water the second because the table was dirty and the third was also because the table was dirty and sticky. The chicken was chewy and cold, it was kinda late to go anywhere else so we decided to stay there and when we got our bill it was outrageous. They wanted us to pay $70.00 for our food which wasnt that great to begin with and the cashier laughed at us when we told her the amount of $ wasnt worth our experience. So yea we will NOT be going back there. Which sucks because it used to be my fav place to eat out. I like it better when Bear was there, not sure if hes still there but i would return only on his shift.

We enjoyed a mid-afternoon, Sunday dinner at Hunan. The biggest was fresh, stocked, & hot, with an array off choices. If you leave hungry, ours YOUR fault. Wait staff was congenial and made sure we were taken care of.

My favorite chinese buffet, because I also love okra and fried chicken. There is such a great variety and options for kids and adults alike. If youre in the mood for great food and atmosphere unlike other buffets, this is your place!

It certainly wasnt bad. Would certainly suggest the buffet, as the ordered meals came out after 25 mins. We also had to wait 5 min to get a table because no one was up at the counter. Then the waitress had to be asked to fill our drinks. Food was good though.

I love this place! The Asian salad is amazing with a sweet dressing. The variety is also really good and the cooks make it so entertaining when they make the food. Wish I would save room for dessert. I have only been able to order the cheesecake Rangoon to go, it was also amazing!

This used to be one of the best restaurants in Ponca at its previous location. Unfortunately since the move and changes in cooking staff, it has went downhill. I was an almost weekly customer until about ten years ago. Now I go about once a year when someone else choose the lunch venue. I recently went back on an office lunch and will never go back. The food is simply too bland now for my taste, and the soup, a former selling point, was atrocious.

Based on two visits, the food was mediocre. The selection was limited and looked like it had been sitting out for a while, though I never got sick the two times I ate there.Good choice for kids because of the fish tank inside and the koi pond outside. Its casual and laid back.The service was courteous at the front door and at checkout. Once we were seated with our food, service was hard to come by until they saw we were done and about to calculate their tips. Then, like magic, they were offering to refill our drinks for the first time since we sat down.Its all you can eat, but for the quality, youre not necessarily getting a bargain.Unless your kids are dying to see the live fish, Id recommend you keep looking. Average is the word. Its not bad, but there are better options for the money.
