Huay Pa Keng Long Neck Village in Haka
Description
Privilege
A must visit place. The people are so helpful, friendly and very very honest.
The place is peaceful and the hospitality is excellent.
MoreEye opening. It was amazing to be able to meet the people that live here, talk to them and get to understand how they live and what their background is. The guys who drive boat to take you over to the village will try to rip you off (20 baht for Thai, 220 for Farang when we were therebut you can haggle the price down - this money doesnt go to the villagers anyway. Buy some interesting things from the market stalls, the money will go directly to the people selling them.
MoreWhen we went there were no tourists at all, we got a boat to cross the river for 20bhat each, usually they charge 200bhat for foreigners buy we negotiated and pay 100bhat for each, its a nice place to known about the cultural and arts about the long neck people, its completely worth to visiting there.
MoreAn interesting village but I visited with mixed feelings. I couldnt help feeling the women are being exploited, though the neck rings are their tradition so ... . Its a very poor village seemingly surviving on visitors donations and purchases. The small restaurant near the river was quite good.
MoreYou can walk true the village in max 30 minutes. Just before you leave to the boat to go back to the other side the will ask 400 bath for your visit and this was never said before. We already donated some money in the community donation box and baught some souvenirs to do something back for the people. Its a touristy village and only about money.
MoreGo back 100 years in time ,aldo it gives a bit a touristich feeling
Morethe small village in another side of the river (20baht/ paxfrankly speaking its quite commercial to me and nothing much to see.
MoreIf you are in doubt whether to go or not and if it’s ethical responsibly you were in the same position as I. I asked myself the same question and I’m glad that I went! Because if you go to the village you are supporting the people of the tribe. But note the entrance fee to the village might end up in the hand of the landlord and not fully towards the tribe. Do buy some souvenirs, they are really cheap but the point is this money goes directly to the people and not to the landlord. They sell all kinds of handmade crafts (wooden statues and scarves). It was a great experience to see how these people live, how they dress and the products they sell. Please go!
MoreBoat trip to the village of the long neck people. This was awesome. The best noodle soup I had in Thailand. The village people show their crafts items for you to buy but nobody pushes. The boat trip on the pai river to get to the village is on a long boat which is fun.
MoreIf you want to go somewhere authentic not put on by the Thai government this is the place to go. No
MoreLess touristy than other Karen places Ive been to but a tourist stop nonetheless.
MoreWorth a stop on the Mae Hong Son loop. You have to cross a little river to access the village. It is written 20 bahts per person but once you cross, they tell you it is 20 bahts for crossing but 200 bahts more to enter the village so 220 bahts per person.A bit strange to pay to visit a village and the Kayans (long neck tribeliving there. Everything is made for tourism but all the money they got comes from tourism. No money from the government as their status is uncertain/not officially accepted as refugees from Myanmar.
MoreNice place. Friendly people.
Overall a super experience. It costs 220 baht per person in entrence fee.You can see the village in 1 hour.
MoreThis place is basically somebody’s home with some side business going on.... boat across the river is 20baht and entry if you’re other than Thai is 200baht. If you can speak Thai most prob you can get away paying 25baht for being “local”. But it seems the 200baht goes to the maintenance and upkeep of the village. I really hope so! I didn’t mind paying the 200baht. Stuff sold in the village are standard trinkets and shawls. Nice place to visit but hard to go if you don’t have your own transportation.
MoreThis place is from time gone by a lovely place to visit and not a RIP off
should visit n please buy or donate some for their living.
This place has been established for 35 yrs and most of them can return back to Myanmar via the Pai river anytime they like. Some of the people are born in the village while some older ones came over from Myanmar. Their souvenirs are similar between stalls, not much creativity. Expensive place for tourist to pay 200 bahts for entry and 20 baht for a 1 minute boat ride. Just 10 minutes to walk thru.
MoreWhat a lovely place and lovely people. So friendly and interesting.I really enjoyed the visit. I did not feel like it was a human zoo. They have to make money and using their different culture is a good way for them to survive.Visit the village, be respectful and buy some lovely hand made gifts.
MoreAuthentic but small
So expensive for the entrance fees they charge 250baht per pax.. Not worth it.. Its look like a scam... BECAREFUL.. AT YOUR RISK... not worth coming here after a long road trip..
MoreAn once in a lifetime oportunity! If you can you must visite them! Very friendly and not shy like in other villages! You can talk with some english speaking locals. Very nice village!
MoreA long-necked woman weaves a scarf.
Well organized Karen refugee village. Beautiful authentic people embedded in gorgeous landscape.
MoreSome good models for portraits! The people here make a living opening their village for tourists, so buy something while youre here.
MoreInteresting place to visit Karen Longneck village
Long Neck Village
Huay Pu Keng (HPK), situated in Mae Hong Son, northern Thailand, is a small village populated primarily by the Kayan (long-neckand Kayaw (big-earsKarenni ethnic sub-groups. It is open all year round to visitors. The village seems much original doesnt feel like human zoo. But all of them was trying to sell us stuff. We were the only tourists there. Found the school and everything. Our mistakes is when we venture to the back alley and by mistakes, found the true face of the community. The school is bigger and a new church with volleyball court made from bamboo strips. They have satellite tv and solar panels. But then, our target is to see long neck people which we managed to achieve although felt cheated. Anyway, this place doesnt have the neck ring with hinges, so we are happy.
MoreI’m glad we decided to detour our motorcycle trip to catch the long tail over the Pai river to this Karen village. Besides the unique experience, the plunger coffee here was surprisingly very good.
MoreSo great. Need to help tribes
Wonderful people, beautiful handcrafted items, and very talented musicians with handmade instruments.
MoreTourist trap but interesting to visit anyway
Great experience
anyone can arrange our visit there..?
Its interesting, but I dont think its worth the detour or the 200 baht fee to "enter". Wouldnt come back
MoreAmazing experience. Great education for the young and old.
Ethinic group of people lives here
Proper long neck village experience. Take the boat
A small village that you get to by a short ride on a long tail boat. The villagers were very friendly and happy to talk to us about their situation (refugees from Myanmar essentially with little or no rights in Thailand). They earn money by selling what they make (woven and carved items etc.but they were not pushy and we never felt any pressure to buy.
MoreGreat experience. Friendly hill tribe. Many handmade products.
If you love nature then this is it
Itz also called " long neck " village ..border point bet Myanmar n thailand
Nice place
Not too commercialize, as long as you open up your mind.
Old, ruined by tourists but still charming as you can see people at their nature.
MoreLongneck Karens.. A tourist gimmick to promote the Karens lifestyle and handicrafts...
