Htauk Kyant War Memorial Cemetery in Rangoon

We stopped on the way to the pagoda of the Golden Rock. It wasnt planned; our driver asked if we would be interested. I thought: why not? My reaction walking amongst the graves of all those young boys surprised me. I have no connection with the Burna campaign, no family, noone I knew, involved. Nevertheless, my eyes just welled up. A very emotional experience.

Before I havent there Army of Myanmar people I think, if I arrive there so amazing with respect.

Few people goes to take photos and some people goes there for fallen soldiers and memorable moments. If you are a visitor, you can experience to visit there. If you dont have time, you can skip this place.

Its a war cemetery. Nice place to visit and u can take good photos here.

It is a must visit place by anyone who visits Yongon. If you visit National museum, from there you take a taxi. It may take just 20 minutes to reach there. It is design, and maintenance of the memorial is a model. Its so respectable, clean and calm.

My great uncle is buried here, I hope to get a photo of the plot someday for my grandmother.

Htauk Kyant War Memorial Cemetery, Yangon - Pyay Rd, Yangon, Myanmar (Burma)

Beautifully designed and maintained grounds that will impress most visitors. I visited the Htauk Kyant War Memorial Cemetery on my way back from a day trip from Yangon to Bago. Its an excellent place to stop on the return trip. It provides a lesson in history and a look into the lives of locals who use these grounds as a public park, a green space where there are many corners to sit, observe and meditate.

My Grandfather also lies here. My Mother was only seen once by him, and then the dreaded letter fell through my Granmothers letterbox...my Mum understands he stepped off track to toilet and never reunited with the others who were marching along the road way.....would really like to go here....RIP David, and thank you for fighting for our freedom....but was it worth it now - sadly not!😔

The place is a cemetery for Allied soldiers from the British Commonwealth who died in battle in Burma during the Second World War. The cemetery is in the village of Taukkyan, about 25 km (16 milesnorth of Yangon on Pyay Rd. It is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. And surprisingly, this place is very well maintained in good conditions even located by the busy highwayThe cemetery contains the graves of 6,374 soldiers who died in the Second World War, and the graves of 52 soldiers who died in Burma during the First World War, and memorial pillars (The Rangoon Memorialwith the names of over 27,000 Commonwealth soldiers who died in Burma during the Second World War in the Burma Campaign but who have no known grave. There are 867 graves that contain the remains of unidentified soldiers. It is one of the most visited and high rated war sites of all Asia.The cemetery was opened in 1951 and the remains of Commonwealth soldiers who died in Meiktila, Akyab (Sittwe), Mandalay, and Sahmaw were transferred here and the graves are grouped together by these battles. A large number of the 27,000 names of Commonwealth soldiers are of the Indian Army and African soldiers who fought and died in Burma.The Cemetery is a reminder to current generations about the sacrifice of so many in the order to live peacefully today. The place can be reached by bus or taxi, its about less than one hour from Yangon. Normal operating hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Very well maintained war cemetery... Unfortunately some young people use it for some different purpose...Thats the sad and not acceptable part...

A well cared for piece of history. The War Cemetery is beautiful and powerful.

Tranquil and well-maintained cemetery / memorial, a place for contemplating life and its brevity. Some of the gravestones are touching, and you can see the spirit of these men who died far too young and far from home.

Even though its right next to Highway 1, it still manages to be a tranquil place for remembrance and reflection. The grounds are well kept and clean for the most part, and visitors and locals are generally respectful of the place and what this cemetery stands for. You can see the graves of people (some marked, some unknownfrom numerous countries. While it may not be a "must see" when in the Yangon area, you certainly wont be worse off for taking some kind of transportation (bus, taxi, bicycleout here to see it.

Very well maintained war cemetery by the Burmese people tending the complex. I was very disappointed to see on the Sunday that I visited that the local Burmese people who had come to the cemetery in their droves have little or no regard for the cemetery as a place of rememberance. They simply treated it as a nice park area, trampling all over the marker head stones, sitting around the marker headstones & even resting motorcycle helmets on the marker headstones. My wife & I were allowed in by the groundsman some time before the crowds of Burmese & Korean tourists who were waiting & thankfully so as later when the gates were opened it was shocking to see how they just ran through the grounds, jumping over marker stones to ensure they got a shady spot in the grounds.I cried with emotion & thanked the groundsman dearly for his hard work.A sombre place but a must visit to pay respect to those who went before us & paid the ultimate price.

Historical place worth a visit enroute to Bago.

Great place for historic understanding and realisation of the damages by the world war. How people who were thousands of kilometres from this place fought in the war that was going to give nothing to them. People from Africa fighting for England in Myanmar against the Japanese. How on earth that makes sense? Its a reminder that wars are fought for the egos of the leaders.

Second World War Memorial

Good place for historical and showing honour.But the security old man are not good in relation. Always showing unpleasant manners and badly angry to visitors.And the opening hours is need to be modified.

Memorial remembering the brave soldiers sacrificing their lives in war. It is very painful to see many soldiers died at young age of 18 to 21 so far away from their homes. Must visit while in Yangon to pay respect to those brave soldiers. It was emotional moment to see a soldier name Laxuman Bansode age 27 years of village Zanka in District Wardha(my native placelaid down his life on 2nd April 1945. He is son of Shri Ganpat Khadi and Husband of Anjanibai. What pain the family has gone thru those day. Special personal tributes to this brave soldier and his family members.

Contemplative stop on the way from Yangon to Bago. Very well maintained. Holds graves for soldiers from many Allied Nations.

You can see and honor those who fought in Myanmar and Siam in WWII. It is also a great spot to take photos

Beautiful memorial to those who lost their lives during WW2.Extremely well maintained grounds.Certainly worth a stop to remember the sacrifices people made.

If you travel to Bago, you will pass through it. It buried many young lives that sacrifice during war.But now this place is keep in nice mode, they all under respect and love.

We stopped on the way to Bago and the memorial site is very well maintained. To me it is a bit depressing with all these young men and their graves but i understand the importance of a site like this. If you are interested in WWII this is a great place to visit.

My grandfathers grave is there unfortunately some how he was counted in unknown, planing to visit by 2017

war can only bring great harm for human, is not the solution for any problem. we should cherish peace and defend peace.
