I think more awareness should be raised about its use among common people. It is the sixth largest suspension bridge in the entire world. It is situated just above the river Hooghly. 2150 feet in length with a hanging span. The first Howrah Bridge was built in 1874. Later in 1945, the present bridge was inaugurated instead of the old one. And initially it was called New Howrah Bridge.

I am astounded, dumfounded & confounded after watching this magnificent architecture of this era. This unique Cantilever kind of bridge was constructed by riveting metal shafts, no either a single nut or screw being used to join this huge steel jumbo. Astonishingly, there are no pillars in between them and this spreads across the width of river Hoogly. Another name, Rabindra Setu, has hold by the name of Nobel laureate Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore. An important connector between two districts Howrah and Kolkata. On kolkata side there is flower market Mallick-ghat and on Howrah side there is great Howrah station situated.
