It is an amazing bridge as this bridge has no nuts or bolts. This bridge has been made by contraction and expansion of metals. It is a very busy part of the city as this bridge connects Kolkata to Howrah. One cannot stop the car to see bridge during the day. You can enjoy the bridge when you are crossing it to go to the other side.

The Howrah Bridge in West Bengal, India, is a balanced cantilever bridge spanning the Hooghly River. The bridge was commissioned in 1943 and is a famous symbol of Kolkata and West Bengal. It carries a daily traffic of approximately 100,000 vehicles and possibly more than 150,000 pedestrians, easily making it the busiest cantilever bridge in the world. The Howrah Bridge was the third-longest cantilever bridge at the time of its construction and is currently the sixth-longest bridge of its type in the world. It is an amazing bridge because there are no nuts or bolts on it. Metal contraction and expansion were used to construct this bridge. This bridge connects Kolkata and Howrah and is a very busy part of the city. During the day, one cannot stop the car to view the bridge. You can enjoy the bridge while crossing it to the other side.Howrah Bridge is a sight to behold, and you can only appreciate it fully when you walk across it and observe the people and vehicles that cross it specially in early Morning or evening time. One of the most notable sights is the Howrah Bridge which is a cantilever bridge. But I expected better especially the lighting is so bad. Bridge pavement should be kept clean. I think more awareness should be raised about its use among common people. It is the sixth largest suspension bridge in the entire world. It is situated just above the river Hooghly. 2150 feet in length with a hanging span. The first Howrah Bridge was built in 1874. Later in 1945, the present bridge was inaugurated instead of the old one. And initially it was called New Howrah Bridge.

This one tops the list of places to see in Kolkata, probably because it gets so often portrayed in movies. It was constructed in 1943 replacing the Pontoon Bridge and is made of steel. Due to the immense popularity that the bridge has, tourists from far and wide travel to Kolkata just to visit the amazing bridge. One will be amazed to see the view from the bridge in the evening. The entire river Hoogli seems like an endless lake with the sun going down into the horizon. The suspended bridge ranks 6th amongst the longest bridges in the world.Location: Hooghly River, Howrah,Kolkata.Best Time To Visit: In the Evening.

I am astounded, dumfounded & confounded after watching this magnificent architecture of this era. This unique Cantilever kind of bridge was constructed by riveting metal shafts, no either a single nut or screw being used to join this huge steel jumbo. Astonishingly, there are no pillars in between them and this spreads across the width of river Hoogly. Another name, Rabindra Setu, has hold by the name of Nobel laureate Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore. An important connector between two districts Howrah and Kolkata. On kolkata side there is flower market Mallick-ghat and on Howrah side there is great Howrah station situated.

The howrah bridge / rabindra setu, the pride of Kolkata, is a cantilever bridge with a suspended span over the Hooghly River in West Bengal, India. As a street photographers I always like a place where you will find different frame, different story, different subject in a single location. This is crowded area where I always find new story. I get a plenty of colorful flowers, Ganga ghat and Howrah Bridge as a subject or background in this place. So according to me this is a prime location for a photographer.

Howrah Bridge , one one of the wonderful thing these Britishers built in our country. Its really a wonder the way it stands. There is no pillar in between. And such a broad bridge. The sight of Yellow cabs and old fashioned buses on this bridge will make you feel that you are in some ancient city. Really enjoyed the night view from the bank of the river. Take a boat ride from there to the next place it will fill your mind for sure.
