Okay, we migrated to Crete after falling in love with the people and the island almost a decade ago. Food wise? Well, there are very few places with a more delicious and healthy gastronomy. Everybody knows this. So, finding the "best" is not so easy, as you might imagine. Well, Hovoli is among the top food places in Crete, really. First, and foremost, the quality of their food is perfect, and every time. Second, only the very best restaurants understand that anything on their menu has to meet the guests expectations, or, it should not be on the menu. Well, as an American, if a restaurant has a club sandwich on the menu, lets say, it has to meet expectations, right? However these guys do it, they manage a perfect tasting club sandwich every time, without the exact ingredients that would go into one in America. In other words, someone in the kitchen understands taste. This is how all their products are, french fries to souvlaki, whatever. Bravo guys, my son begs me to order from you every day. I would, but my wife will get angry if her food is left in the fridge.

Best food in Heraklion and great service too

Best place we’ve been to eat in crete, incredibly cheap but large portions And very tastes. 4,50,€ and we were full, they also offer takeaway boxes which helps a lot with there generous portion sizes. 10/10 would highly recommend anyone visiting to go here for cheap but high quality food.

Huge portions, amazing food, and incredible service! Staff is super friendly and there to answer all your questions and get you whatever you need. Chicken + combo suvlakis in the picture, and those are single servings! You wont regret coming here.I also recommend pork meat variety where you get a bit of everything. The gyros meat in that was amazing, so I bet the gyros itself is just as tasty.

Beware! You have to come here at the point of starvation, and not before, because the portions are freakin huge and so delicious, you cant stop eating. Complementary rakia was exceptionally good!

We wanted to get one last good gyros before leaving Greece but sadly we were dissapointed. It wasnt good gyros. Too little tatziki, too much fries and meat tasted bad.

Located in a touristic and busy area but also people living there come. I saw a lot of home delivery drivers and heard Greek speaking people.The choice is high but we are classical gyros. The regular portion is gigantic. Dont get troubled by the mentions "mini" and "giant". The 2,90 "mini" is actually a regular portion. So prices are more than fair for the area. The open one fed my two kids for both lunch and dinner...The gyros is super tasty. Last year we enjoyed it a lot so we came back and the second impression confirmed the first. The meat is juicy and well grilled. The garniture is tasty and the pita bread as well.Very kid friendly and nice staff.Offered some watermelon and tsikoudia after lunch, good to have some fruits after all these fat foods.Last year we took a souvlaki skewer for the children and it was very good (also served with french fries if I remember well). Its still on menu so its also a good option. For the rest I dont know.Open kitchen so no tricks...For fast eating for a cheap price in the central place this is one of the best options.

Very good gyros restaurant. Very nice people and great service and the food is really great and a plate like in the picture only costs about 8 EUR. We ordered french fries for our daughter for only 3 EUR a full plate. As in many Greek restaurants they suprise you with a small appetizer and watermelon with Raki as dessert.

Portions here are huge! Gyros platters are good for two people. Prices are standard, even a bit lower than elsewhere. That being said, I give it 4 stars because the meat was lukewarm, not hot as I expected, and it gotten colder quickly.

Best gyros in our 2 weeks vacation in Crete. Great service, great food (had chicken gyros pita and tsatsiki), and good prices. Just 16 eur for 2 person.Go for it and enjoy it. Mostly local customers which is always a great sign

What should I say? The hugest gyros pita in Greece!!! To be honest the giant pita is good for two hungry people or more, but its superb. Also, the souvlaki is fantastic and the saganaki or the garlic bread with cheese. They are very kind and the serve a perfect iced beer. Ill be back for sure! 😋

After going to the Knossos palace, we decided to go downtown and have a meal and this was the closest place we could get to and that seemed decent. We were starving so we ordered plenty. Their tzatziki was definitely made out of dough or bread and not yoghurt and it tasted horrible. We naturally told the staff and they didnt do anything about it. Hence why the two stars. I dont know if they do this to all their customers or perhaps only "dumb" tourists, thinking we wouldnt know, but that was NOT yoghurt in the tzatziki.Instead we ordered just plain yoghurt.Their Zucchini croquettes was absolutely delicious. And so was the "Hovoli" Saganaki cheese.

The gyros and the portions in Hovoli are huge and the prices are quite reasonable! Friendly staff and relatively fast service.

One of the best gyros in Heraklion and not only. A bit more expensive than your regular gyros but very generous so definitely worth it.. they also give you some watermelon on the house

Overall very good food - big portions, soft meat but maybe a little bit to many fries when compared to meat and other ingredients.

Staff are very polite and friendly. The food was really good and the location is also nice since it is very close to the 1866 street.In this particular moment, they put a hand sanitizer on each table.

Massive, delicious portions for less than 10 euros! Great for lunch or dinner and close to tourist attractions. I tipped the server and he generously gave me a bottle of water on the house! Great place, would come again!

Popped by Hovoli for some lunch. Grabbed a Gyro and a beer meal deal for €5! The food was great and the service even better. We got given some watermelon and raki afterwards and a couple of bottles of water since it was roasting out. Greek hospitality at its best.
