Chapel at pilgrimage site said to be the former home of the Virgin Mary after the death of Jesus.
Holy shrine and a very peaceful religiois location. Big respect to the people maintaining this place. Very well done.
The House of Virgin Mary is a very quiet, calm and spiritual place. You can take a walk through this house but no pictures are allowed. Its beloved that the Virgin Mary had spent her last days in the vicinity of Ephesus and that she had died there. There are a few souvenir shops and washrooms too.
Nothing to see, probably fake, anyhow bloody expensive. DONT waste your money nor your time here
Dont forget to drink holy water from three Fontaines; Healthy, Wealthy and Happiness.
Before parking up, they already try to claim €10 a person, with it being open for less than an hour and no idea how long the queue is going to be, we decided to turn around and go to the cave of 7 sleepers instead which is free and gives you amazing views over the city & good food. Dont think it is worth this amount for 1 small house, especially compared to ephesus where you easily spend a couple of hours and entry is only €5 extra for 2 ppl.
Very crowded when we were there with over an hour wait to go inside, yet everything but the houses foundation is a reconstruction. Today, lots of hills & steps; back then, it must have taken Mary days to get up there.
If you are staying in Kusadasi, this is a place you have to visit. Its only about 30 minutes drive, traffic dependent. The site is very clean and theres many photo opportunities.
An absolutely unique experience at a fabulous place full of God’s presence.
Small, not picture inside, too many people and cars, expensive entrance fee.
Actually quite expensive relative to all the other sites in Turkey. The shrine is actually free it’s the city that charges the fee. But there is a lot of security/police so it’s probably needed to ensure the site isn’t vandalized or attacked.
325 TRY (ticket + single carno worth the price. Nothing here to see interesting, old small church, nothing interesting inside. Only for pilgrims I think.
Unfortunately is just a tourist scam, built only with this in mind. Entrance fee is subject to your plate number, for us was 150 lira per person, there is nowhere posted about it, and when you pay you dont get a real ticket with the value. And the worst of it, none goes to the holy place. For us was very crowded, and we couldnt feel any peace of mind because of it. From the symbolism point of view is an important place, in reality just a scam.Avoid this place!
Amazing, must see, it will leave you speechless. Read the history on the panels on the way to the house. Dont miss.
Greatest scan of the world. Too long wait in a queue, 150 TL extra charge per person, + 25 TL for parking. Too much for the small place, which isnt even conformed by UNESCO.Not recommended at all
Please read this sign in the picture. Charging 150TL for entrance (museum pass not applicableis unreasonable, it is a place for people to pay respect, nothing particular to see (important to know that there is no house- and now you’re telling me none of the money goes to those who maintain the place??Selçuk Municipality should be ashamed.
The only worshipping place I have ever visited where you face racism for being European. As well different entrance fee for tourists. Just an ugly scam site.
This place is worth a visit, a little detour drive from Ephesus, if it would be meaningful for you in a spiritual sense. It only takes a couple of minutes to see the house (no photography allowed insideso half an hour to see the entire area is plenty.
We loved our visit there, recently we pass by Izmir but just for one night sleep. We promise we will visit again next year. It’s a lovely place to visit, Organized and very touristic.
Extra 150TL for two foreign tourists at a parking gateWe had the 1000TL MUSEUM PASS though. What a rip-offWe turned back obviously 🤷🏻♀️
We arrived when most tourist buses arrived.Privacy and silence would have been important for this visit
Although the entrance tariff is written on the door, a separate fee is charged per person. The museum card is not late.It has nothing to do with the Virgin Mary. A structure dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The fact that this structure survived while the Ephesus Ruins, which should be contemporary and built by the state of the period, was turned into a ruin in about 2000 years, reveals that it was built much later, it was a complete nonsense, and it was a Vatican-supported propaganda center. Considering that it is not taken seriously by UNESCO, the result shows that it is a FAKE touristic fraud center.
If you believe you will no when you go through and exit the house, it happened to me, never had an experience like it go through my body, very holy place
A very spiritual place known as the house of the Holy Mary. This place is located in a very quiet place with beautiful nature. There is a drinking place next to this place, which has a spiritual value for many. In some places, people wrote their wishes and desires on paper and hung them up.
Stopped by here on a tour and thought it was underwhelming. There’s nothing much to see and no history or geographical accuracy to know if this truly was were Virgin Mary was in her last days. Whole thing seems like a tourist trap.
The church is small and modest. Within the church there is also a wall of desires. So if youre coming, bring paper and a pen and some ribbon to tie your wish. There is also a source of holy water, so bring a bottle.
The location where the Virgin Marys house is located. It is also used as a place of worship.
On your way to Ephesus every guided tour stops at this famous location. It will take some quick 30 minutes to visit the small house, the fountain and the beautiful garden. No photo is allowed to be taken from inside the house. Guides and brochures will tell you that Virgin Marry had spent her last few years in this place.
You will feel Holy Spirit 🧿
Love the serenity of the place. We were the first 2 visitors and was given more leeway in entering and soaking in the pure sanctity of the place
Peace of mind can be felt here the moment u enter this miraculous place.Very beautiful religious place. Well maintained and cleanliness can be seen all around the premises. The entrance fees to the shrine is 10€.Please dress appropriately or else u wont be allowed to enter insideSuviners r a bit expensive.
Youll leave here feeling like youve been robbed! Its quite possibly one of the most underwhelming places you could visit. For it to purport itself as being a holy and sacred place, they charge to get in and it all just lacks substance. It would turn any believer in to a non believer and further reiterate to a non believer just how exploitative these places really can be! The cherry on the cake for me is at the end of the walk where they sell all the mass produced junk which really does just take the whole appeal away. Dont waste your time or money.
Meryanas House, or Marys House, is situated in the mountains above Ephesus, which is a nice ride and gives lovely views over the town and countryside. We paid 120 lira to get into this site, but on entry signs state that this is a government charge and donations are accepted. The house is actually a small chapel, built on the ruins of the site of the old house and really we were almost out as soon as we were in. There is a restaurant, teashop and souvenir shop on the site, and a places to light candles, also a stop for spring water. The apostle John is said to have moved Mary, the mother of Jesus here, when he came to take care of the church in Asia Minor. There were information boards in several languages. Not sure I would consider this the best value for money based on the size of the site.
Not to bad no pic inside house as I got shouted at the whole point of going and paying in for photos 😅 this place is not beside ephesus its on up the top of mountain if going to both places go here first get of at ephesus top gate and walk down
It was beautiful and strangely calm place. I had all the good feels. The place is located on a hill, you have to drive up there. Then you’ll have to walk a long way to the House. We went in winters so it was good to walk up there but I think in summers it would be a little hard if it is hot. You are not allowed to take pictures inside the House of Virgin Mary. You can go in with respect as many times as you want to. It was a great experience. You can also take a candle and make a wish!
Worthwhile place if youre a genuine believer, if not, it might feel like a grand hoax (read the history of founding up the place). However, if youre around, and ready to pay the 80 liras entrance (Jan2022fee, the visit might be nice bonus for visiting the beautiful Ephesus area. The views along the streaming road upwards are precious.
Great worship place and felt good to be in a sacred place. The journey to The House Of Mary was amazing and felt recharged. View is breathtaking and super
Beautiful spot in the middle of nature it has a little fountain and the shrine is renovated. But it is nothing special especially for all the way you have to drive up the mountain.I wouldn’t recommend this place, mainly because it’s too much hassle to get there.
Has an aura of harmony, peace and happiness. The site is a wonder by itselfThe shrine is also small but wonderfulOn Sundays you can attend mass in open airA must visit place for all, religious or not.
Very nice place to visit it is 1 hour drive from Izmir. We go at Febuary, it is cold.Very amazing how can the house in there and it is so high.
Very nice place, must see, you can take photos inside. I would have liked to take a pic inside. Outside of the house their is an interesting wall with spring water fountains. You can even drink that water. And also a very old cistern. Its a long drive up the mountain but it is a very interesting place to see. Also a souvenir shop there with lots of different things to buy and take home. I would like to go back
If you are the catholic, It would be great, but If you are not the catholic which means you dont think Holy Mary is like a God or something It is just a small home on top of the mountain.
In our families, we learn things that will stay with us throughout our entire life. They’re where our values are formed, and, above all, they’re the place where we first discover love through our parents and our siblings, a reflection of God’s love. Loving and being loved makes us more human and helps us to recognize God’s love. Jesus revealed this path to us. Let us live this love in our families, joining together in prayer.
A great little place to visit with lots of history and all if the money goes into keeping the place restored. Worth booking in a package with Ephesus.
In1961 Pope John XXIII made known that ceremonies could be performed in the House of the Virgin Mary discussions about the place were subdued and the number of visitors gradually increased. The house was declared a place of pilgrimage. In 1967 Pope Paul VI and in 1979 Pope John Paul II visited. Nov. 29, 2006 Pope Benedict XVI celebrated Mass at the House of the Virgin Mary in Ephesus.
The house is believed to be the home of Mary the mother of Jesus Christ, which is near the old city of Ephesus. There is a church inside the complex, and also water fountain that is believed to be holy water as well. The house itself is nicely reserved, Catholics can pray inside and light a candle as well, and also there is a wall of pray outside the house where people write down their prayers on a piece of paper and then stick it to the wall near the water fountain.
Worth the Visit if youre in the area. The location is beautiful and peaceful. Theres a plaque detailing why this is considered the last home of Mary. When you arrive you can read the plaque and see the entire area. Theres not a lot of description on the home/chapel itself and pictures are not allowed inside. Regardless, its worth a look see. On the way, youll see a large statue of the Virgin along the road. Its a nice memorial celebrating the area as the last home of Mary. Stop and take a few pics and enjoy the serenity of the area.
I have always wanted to know what happened to Virgin Mary after the death of her son – Jesus of Narazeth. The small “cottage” is now a shrine to the Virgin Mary with places for prayer, placing of candles and board for wish lists. There is a tap for spring water. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own bottles to collect this spring water.
House of Virgin Mary is holy place to visit. There is a small chapel to visit. You can pray at the chapel. Foto is forgotten inside the chapel.
The previous day we visited Trojan Horse of Troy and Acropolis of Pergamon and today, we started at House of Virgin Mary on top of the "Bulbul" mountain 9 km ahead of Ephesus - recognised by the Vatican as the place where the Virgin May spent her last days. So, what do get to see here? The small shrine, house of Virgin Mary, altar, and the spring running under the Virgins House is believed to have healing properties. Fantastic experience.Never knew such a place existed until I came over during this my Turkey tour.
Its not overly commercialized, only c14 shops out front, which is nice. Unfortunately for me, the house itself is presented less as an artifact and place of historical significance but has instead been converted into a shrine for her followers to pray to her at. I doubt that she would have had a statue of herself on an alter in her own house. I think this would be more appropriate in the future museum of the late Kanye West. I was hoping to find more information venerating Marys life and explaining as much as is known about her from the various sources in history. Bring lira for the WC, expect a que to get in, and you can make a wish on a wall just down the path from her place.
