New owners? The main geltleman that is usually there wasnt the night we came. We used to love the Indian here. Kids butter chicken tasted like tomato paste, our two mains lacked the usual flavors we are used to. Nan bread was dry. Pretty disappointing overall

Worst butter Naan I ever had and food was not properly cooked. very bad experience.

Very disappointing. We ordered two medium garlic butter chickens, two cheese and garlic naans and popadoms - $47 worth. We picked up immediately and found the curry was almost cold and had zero spice at all. I’d expect far better from the prices charged and am normally a regular customer… but will consider going elsewhere.

A bit disappointing.The medium was out right violent (both the korma & butter chickencompared to Spice Traders, Own Masala or Smart India. The mango lassi was very runny with an odd flavor to it. The one positive was the garlic Naan.A professional greeting, rather than a morose t-shirt & sports cap clad grunt would help.Near $60 for 2 adults & a child to end up with a guts ache wasnt an ideal Saturday.

Naan has a very funky aroma, almost like chlorine ?? Not the worst butter chicken but certainly had better. Also shocking you only get 2 small pieces of Gulab Jamun for $5.50!! Onion Bhaji was tasteless not worth purchasing. Overall the food is overpriced for the quality you receive.

Excellent curry and they definitely take your specifications and pay careful attention to detail. Probably the best curry in NZ

Amazing service came and greeted us and we were unsure on what to try other that butter chicken and he recommended a flavour with the meat we were looking for , so friendly and would definitely come here again :)

Really great little find. Especially to dine in. If you have the time to support this restaurant make sure you dine in. Although a little under the pump on arrival the waiter took time out for a bit of banter and the food matched the promise of being tasty and piping hot.Great atmosphere in the restaurant. Had dinner here last night with our family. Excellent food, great friendly and helpful service! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We are lucky to have this restaurant in our neighbourhood for both takeaways and dine-in.

Went to go in for a meal at 11.50 a.m. as the opening hours were 11a.m. and was told they were only open for takeaways. The staff member arranging tables seemed uninterested and told me to come back after 12. I took my family party elsewhere. Would not bother and would recommend others to find an alternative luncheon venue. Service was spalling.

Such a cool place to dine. Very attentive wait staff, who we let choose our food and it was delicious! Definitely recommend to try this place especially if you aren’t sure what flavours you like the staff will give you recommendations.

Such a great eating experience facilitated by "Gagan" who is a fantastic front house person with a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm. We had a fabulous evening catching up with friends and enjoying being "surprised" by dishes that kept coming out. Tried new things I wouldnt have known to order, and each dish was so tasty. The peshwari Naan to end with was a real winner. Thank you House of Spice for your great service. We go regularly here for takeaways, so was nice to eat in for a change.

This restaurant have one of the best Malai Methi paneer and when ever we come to the Bethlehem shopping complex we definitely visit the restaurant we always order malai paneer . this dish is very good in taste and not only me but i also notice that people usually visit in this restaurant they also used to order the malai methi paneer. i love this paneeri visited this restaurant again and i order the malai methi paneer because i like this malai methi paneer very much of this restaurant and i only visited this restuarant because this paneer

Was a regular buyer here, however Ive just been delivered the wrong meal and ordering the mixed meat platter I have received the mix platter which has mostly vege options. Rung up as soon as I opened it and got told Im in the wrong and just continued to argue with me, simple bringing the right meal in replacement after a simple miss communication wouldve solved this. Hope your $18 and a regular customer is worth the review, worst customer service and wont be buying from here again

Myself and my lovely Lady go here often. Weve been almost right through their menu now , even the desserts. Never had a fault . The wine is excellent , the beer is as expected ,,awesome and cold as hell .The food is incredible. The service is especially good . The price is sweet. These people wont bend you backwards when it comes to paying for a great Indian meal experience .I have no difficulty highly recommending House Of Spice . ( and Im not paid to say any of this 10/10.Ross

Second time to an Indian Restaurant following a not so pleasant first time experience about 20 years ago in Hamilton. We had a magnificent meal which was recommended to us by the Manager. Completely restored our confidence re dining Indian. First class service by a really friendly and easy to understand Manager. We will definitely be going back there again. We recommend this restaurant unreservedly.

We been there last Sunday, at first we weren’t impressed tbh but when the food tasted we were amused. All time fav biriyani was delicious , my favourite was dal makhni, it was 🤤. Give it a shot people if you visit Tauranga.

Super-tasty, fresh and generous. We ordered the prawn curry, saag, starters and breads, and all were amazing. We were visiting Tauranga from Auckland and were nervous about straying from our "usual" order but were blown away by what we had. Now cant wait to go back...!

Wow so yummy. Had quite a lot of choice for vegan dishes. Our curry was really yummy, probably the best Ive had. The waiter was so lovely and friendly too, we were both impressed. Cant wait to go back and try out some of their other dishes :Thanks for a great service.

Gagan and his team are masters of hospitality, and the food is fantastic! They are friendly, and what sets them apart is that they provide suggestions on what combination of their flavors work (and which dontwith a firndly smile and a good chat. Im not kidding; this is the best experience Ive had in an Indian restaurant in New Zealand, and couldnt recommend Gagan and his team more.

Fantastic. Everything was perfect. Friendly, well spoken staff, clean tidy & presentable restaurant, quick service & delivery of meal. Meal was hot, fresh & tasted amazing. We were not rushed in & out. Staff recommended dishes, taught us how to pronounce dish names & showed us the Indian way of eating a curry! The chap who served us was lovely, honest, friendly & very personable. We dined in. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Hands down the BEST Indian restaurant ever, my favourite place to eat. The food is to die for and the staff are so friendly and welcoming they make the experience amazing. Cant say enough amazing things about this place, never disappointing.

Monday night - no reservation. Warmly welcomed & comfortably seated and treated to very tasty, perfectly spiced Mango Chicken w/ Fragrant Rice & roti. My friend enjoyed her vegetarian meal.Great curries; reasonable price & really friendly service! The lamb korma was especially delicious!!

So where to begin? The service yes the service to start with is the smile as you walk in, then you either take a seat for dining in or order and wait for your take out, both seating areas are comfortable. The the 2nd part of the service that we got was fantastic, as my wife has allergies and not only was she catered for but a custom meal was made on the spot for her. The the food yes it was great absolutely fantastic highly recommend anything on the menu. Now this is something I would expect from a more expensive restaurant and I really like to show my gratitude by just praising the team. So thank you all well done.

When I am home in Tauranga, I ALWAYS return to House of Spice. We eat in and have take aways regularly - at least 2 or 3 times a month. They never disappoint! I have seen one or two negative reviews and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I have eaten at ALL the restaurants in Tauranga and can honestly say the quality and complexity of the food is exactly what I would expect from genuine Indian food. The service cannot be faulted - I never have to wait more than a minute or two to either be served or at least acknowledged. Some of the other restaurants can learn a thing or two from them, the atmosphere is awesome too. I have had almost every vegetarian/vegan meal on their menu and my family have tried most of the meat dishes so we know exactly what we are getting AND they cook the dish exactly how I ask for it - Indian hot, which is not only tasty but does not have the acidic after taste I normally get from some of the other restaurants.

Friendly and courteous service with recommendations offered on the menu. The food was totally delicious and there is an extensive menu. Having been a few times now and having tried numerous curry houses in Tauranga I would definitely say this is our favourite and we have recommended it to friends who have found it just as good as we have. Very happy diners :)

We had a wonderful meal here with our friends who are locals here and come frequently. We were recommended to try the prawn starters plus the mixed meat starter which came out on a hot plate and was INCREDIBLE! Especially the chicken in a white sauce. Its worth coming here just for the amazing starters.We all had different curries with nans and the rice was included in the price. All were very different and we all loved each one. This curry house is very good indeed and we cant recommend it enough. Prices are very reasonable and we wish this restaurant and take away was our local too.

We have been here twice in one week. The food is fantastic, fresh and comes out fast! The Manager is incredibly warm and friendly. We really enjoy the whole ambience of dinner here and recommend it to families or romantic couples :)

Great local curry. Very professional Friendly staff. The manager also has a very wonderful mustache! We had our meals takeaway and they were delicious! Highly recommend. The garlic butter chicken was fantastic piled with boneless chicken, the garlic nann and rice was also perfect. We will be back.

Sorry to give you such a negative rating as I’m very keen to support local businesses and hope that they do well BUT seriously the food here is very average.We have got takeaways a number of times during the last 4 years and each time I say never again, this time I mean it. It’s worse than food hall Indian. Full of way to much sugar, colours too bright to be real, the spices and flavours are not complex at all, the quality of the food is just not good, well at least to my palate.I suggest your cook eats at India Today in Tauranga for some ideas on quality, delicious, complex Indian food.

The food was very good, hot means hot and medium means medium. The portions were a good size and well presented. As for the flavours just outstanding. The chef alone is worthy of a visit.The staff were good and friendly and the seating comfortable. All around worth a visit.

The taste of food is like an real desi Punjabi dhaba. After long time I have same Indian taste that I used to have it in India.Place is well cleaned and very welcoming and friendly employees.

Had a lovely dinner here with a couple of friends. We ate in and it is a very nice environment. Very clean and well presented. Attentive waiter with lots of knowledge. The food was fantastic and we enjoyed a long slow dinner and catch up. There was no pressure to get moving. A relaxing enviroment. We will be back.
