Casual brewpub offering housemade beers & hundreds of other bottles & drafts, plus a pub-fare menu.
Awesome food, great draft list, and friendly welcoming staff. Highly recommend! The bartender/waiter was so attentive and kind to me and my 4 year old and the food was excellent. Plus a great place for a beer lover like me :-)
This place is a hidden gem. They have a solid tap list and extensive bottle/can list and availability. Super nice and friendly folks that made us feel like family.
One of the greatest beer places I have been to. The staff is exceptional, check out their bottle specials for some incredible deals.
Highly recommend!! Great brunch spot! The bloody Mary’s are amazing! The omelette was so good!!! The staff was so friendly and nice!!
Went to Hough’s while we were waiting for something else to begin. My husband and I were blown away at the service from the bartender and the amazingly delicious drinks! He got an old fashioned (made with Makers Mark and I got the peach mule…..O…M….G!!!!! If we didn’t HAVE to be elsewhere, we would have stayed all night!!! Amazing atmosphere, fantastic service from him, and they even came over and talked to us seeing we were new faces!! (Thanks guys!!). We will definitely be back and be regulars!! If you are in the area….make this your stop! 😍😍
I give it two stars, because this place is closed every time that I come here, even on weekends. If youre gonna close before 2AM, on a regular basis, dont even bother. The golden rule of bars in Pittsburgh is to stay open until 2AM. When customers come buy at Midnight, or even 1AM, and they find the place closed, and that they have wasted their time coming to your establishment, they are not coming back. Their prices are just too high, and it is just lame. What do you do here? They are in the heart of Steeler/Penguin country, with the biggest fans living in Greenfield and they dont even care about the games, with no drink/food specials, or anything. Its like, we dont want you in here. Dont say that I was never truthful with you.. Enjoy your retirement..
Great food. Great beer. Great service. I cant say enough good stuff about this place. They always have just what I want to eat and drink.
Perfect "mature" bar environment. Clean and professional service. Owners are down to Earth and friendly. Food is excellent 👌 huge bar top and plenty of seating. Clean bathrooms are another plus. Absolutely my favorite spot in Greenfield.
The food is always great and the service is friendly and fast. Ive been to a bunch of Wing Wednesdays and Ill keep coming back. I really like that they rotate the beer selection but occasionally some thing on tap are out.
We watched the TN vs Miss State game there. It was a fabulous day there. The food was excellent. Andre, our waiter, gave exemplary service. The people were great. Best bar experience ever!!
For a time, Houghs was our restaurant/bar of choice. The last two times we visited, there was a noticeable decline in quality- they were clearly short-staffed and our food was lukewarm. Then we found out they recently failed a county health department inspection.. the report was damning. Needless to say, we wont be returning.
I am a long time patron of Houghs. In 2013 I gave them a five star rating on Facebook. Unfortunately, my friends and I have watched it canteen down a hill for at least three to four years now. Last night, a friend found out that they had failed a county health department inspection. The pizza oven, during our last visit, was producing pizza with a lot of black soot on the bottom. The massive beer menu has been reduced and the crowd has shrunk to less than half its former size on a Friday night.Their Facebook page suggests they are trying to open two additional locations. What?! FOCUS ON YOUR CORE BUSINESS. Not coffee. Not Pizza.I would like to see this place be what it was once again. The beer selection was amazing. All of this is now gone. There is no reason to go here anymore. Were going to start exploring other places.
I gave a 4 because there is no more Copper Kettle. It was a place for people to go and make their own beer. My girl had purchased me a package a package to go for my birthday. We had an awesome time making it and equal fun when we went back to bottle the beer. Still a cool place to chill in Greenfield. Off the beaten path. TVs all around.
Went to Houghs for brunch, and could tell they were extremely understaffed. Thats fine and understandable, but we received barely an acknowledgement throughout the meal. We were eventually told to seat ourselves but waited at least 15 minutes for our waitress, while tables that had sat later than us were served. We overheard other tables getting apologies and meals discounted, while we were completely ignored. Overall brunch took well over an hour. Its a bummer cause we liked the food and wanted to like the place, but it was really a frustrating experience. Maybe we came on bad day, but we wont be going back to find out.
Service at the bar was great, the bartender tonight was incredibly friendly and attentive. We ordered soft pretzels for an appetizer and they were perfect. For our meal we had the BLT and Fish tacos, also great, the fries and tater tots were average. The price was fair and the menu had a decent amount of options. Ill come back mostly because of the staff and atmosphere
Houghs is a great pub, with good food and great prices on drinks. They have a large selection of beers on draft, which change seasonally. For food, their pierogis are great. We often go for Wing Night and occasionally for Quiz Night.
Good bar hang typically with decent drink specials. They once had an awesome, expansive menu but have gutted it leaving only expensive and underwhelming bowls, pierogies, and a few sandwiches/salads.
Good food. Great rotating craft beer selection. Love brunch with its bloody mary bar and vegetarian options. Always great service.
First time visit was last week and LOVED IT!. Great craft beer selection,; had an excellent pulled pork sandwhich and chocolate cherry stout. The dining area was roomy and liked the general atmoshphere. Will definately return :-)
Use to live in the neighborhood and loved this place. Stopped in today since we weee in the neighborhood and disappointed in what it has become. Menu has totally changed and food was unwhelming. Ingredients were missing or scarce and overall taste was bland with a hint of freezer burn. Still has a good beer selection but with so many other places in Pittsburgh with good beer selections and good food it is unlikely we will return.
I always love Houghs: tater tots, delicious (and largesandwiches, and a truly great beer selection. Service can be hit or miss sometimes, but it is WELL worth it!
100% Pittsburgh pub food! Staff is super friendly and decent selection of grub and beers on draft as well as bottled. I tried the Totchos (tater tot nachosand they were divine! My husband got the Reuben and said it was a bit salty for his liking and he’s a big Rueben guy. Parking available on street which is always a big plus.
VERY impressed! I am a huge judge of Pierogis and this place blew me away! A good pierogi is judged by the basics. Traditional pan fry, potato, cheese. Houghs does this to perfection. Top with their various menu options like the Pig and Cheesesteak??? Incredible. Bravo Houghs! Glad I stumbled in to this place by accident.
Bright, clean, with a good beer selection, I was prepared to enjoy this place, but the food was disappointing. The Eggs Benedict were served on very soggy biscuits, and the bland mystery sauce was nothing like Hollandaise. In another breakfast dish which listed onions, banana peppers, and brisket among the ingredients, it was difficult to discern any veggie besides potatoes. A person on a low sodium diet might appreciate the blandness, but I would have liked to have seen some red pepper flakes next to the essential table salt. Fortunately, the pleasant young waitress was very kind to bring me a diced jalapeño from the kitchen. It is great that they serve breakfast until 3 pm, but they really should improve the taste. The rice bowls are similarly underwhelming. Given the quality and the portion sizes, its overpriced, though its not expensive. Its such a pleasant place to have a beer that I will surely return. Next time, I will go later in the day, and I plan to try the pierogies, which are their point of pride. I hope that they improve the other food before I brunch there again.
What happened to this place?I used to come here all the time for the unmatched beer selection and the better-than-expected food. Now theyve significantly reduced their menu (but not the pricesand their beer list. The staff, with a few exceptions, seems uninspired. Its like theyre trying to be another janky sports bar.Theyve completely lost their identity as Pittsburghs premier beer spot.
First time here. Friend lives in the neighborhood. Came in after a show, late night but before midnight, we didnt have food. Extensive beer list, bottles and taps. They also have wine and cocktails on tap. We shared a bottled chocolate stout, and liked it so much we shared a second while chatting at the bar. Nice, helpful bartender, she suggested we share the stout since the bottle was a bit over a pint. Then let us be to do our thing. Lots of tvs. People were watching March Madness games but it wasnt loud or crazy. Nice place. Will definitely come back. Signs on the walls advertised specials during Pens games.
Love this place. They’re new menu is clear and concise. I sometimes catch myself and my family going there more than once a week. My only qualm is the jumbo wings. I liked their old wings better. But all the sauces and dry rubs are good!!
Good atmosphere and kind staff. Wonderful selection of beer and bar foods. Highly recommend their chicken and waffles. Also are able to brew your own beer.
Update 1/9/2018 - one star: So Houghs updated their menu recently. They now have 4 burgers, sandwiches and salads... total... and have switched to appetizers and several pierogie items as the main menu. They also have removed the brewery of the month thereby reducing the total beers on tap (there were over 10 taps of PBR when we went this weekand have added a mug club for a fee... for a reduced their beer selection. Strange. We are very sad, but we wont be back unless they reverse course, and HIRE A CHEF BACK.Prior review: We live in the area and Houghs used to be our go-to for a good meal and great beer during the week when we didnt want to cook. But something started to change with the food over a year ago. The quality started going down, the menu began to change as well as the way the food was prepared. It was all starting to deteriorate. Then they changed the menu again a few months back for the worse. The chicken and waffles sandwich? Now its an "open face sandwich" consisting of a few dry chicken fingers and half a waffle. Its like houghs has lost its identity with food... its just a neighborhood bar. Im really sad about the changes they have made and wish they would improve the food quality. We would go more often, and it seems others would too. Its not nearly as crowded there as it used to be. Please fix this, Houghs.
One of the best places to have a drink at the end of the day. They have one of the best beer cheeses in the area. Poutine is great! If you like cocktails, try their sex on the beach, you will not be disappointed.
Love this place. The beer selection is amazing. I had sweet potato pierogies garnished with onions and dried cranberries, and I asked them to add chicken to it, and it was delicious. I dont get here often, I wish I lived closer.
This is a great beer bar and the staff know their stuff! Perogies are also a must! Any flavour is terrific!
Love this place. Get to know the servers and they always remember you and take care of you. Food is good and I really like the smoked meat options (lived in South, so.... read as you will), but its their beer options that really are the selling point. great place to expand horizons.
They have great beer selection. The food isnt great, but its OK. Its always packed and a little loud. Overall, its a good environment if you like watching sports.
Its a very easy five stars. The food is amazing very nice portions, atmosphere is awesome the best musics played on the loud system and the beer selection is one of the best Ive seen in the side of Pittsburgh
Houghs is a fantastic taproom and restaurant! With 70+ rotating taps of craft beers and a tasty pub food menu, Houghs is definitely my favorite neighborhood bar. Located in the Greenfield borough of Pittsburgh, Houghs also has my favorite build-your-own bloody Mary bar on Sundays with house-made infused vodkas (tomato basil is my favand your choice of salted rims, and a great little brunch menu to go along with it!
A vast selection of beer with great bar food. This bar is also clean with friendly hosts, servers, and bartenders. It feels like a great episode of cheers you never want to end. Ill be back soon!
Great staff, environment, and beer selection. They do not offer samples, instead they charge you an appropriate amount for a 5oz (I thinkpoor. You mist visit Houghs if you are in the area.
I went in expecting typical bar food and was blown away with how good the food was! I went in today with 2 friends for dinner & we all loved everything we got. We split an order of honey Chipotle wings. Im fairly certain I can honestly say they were the best chicken wings Ive ever had. Perfectly cooked with crispy skin & the sauce was delicious!! I had a cheese steak with tater tots for dinner. This thing was loaded with beer cheese. Everything was awesome!
This is one of my favorite places in the city! Always an excellent beer selection with brewery tap takeovers frequently. The food has improved over the past couple years, but its still not quite a 5 star spot! Make sure to check out the bloody mary bar during Sunday Brunch. Great place to watch a Steelers game!
Great pub food in a great, under appreciated neighborhood of Pittsburgh. You will meet real Yinzers here. They have a good Bloody Mary bar during brunch I hear. Check out their attached learn how to home brew school.
This is a great neighborhood bar--friendly, spacious, bright, and clean. It can get a bit loud and rowdy (relative to how quiet the neighborhood is), but the service is pretty okay. The food is a step up above typical bar food, and they even serve brunch. The ramen was not too bad, fairly tasty and containing everything described on the menu, though definitely different from what youd find at a dedicated restaurant. The Hough burger was very filling and very good.
My fiancé is from the area, and Ive been looking for a craft beer bar local for two years. Well Ive found it, this place is amazing and the prices are even better. Its a great atmosphere and Ill continue to come back when were in town.
Houghs is a great casual bar/restaurant with one of the best beer selections in Pittsburgh. Greenfield is a pretty residential neighborhood but Houghs is worth the trip if you dont live here. The bar food includes classics but has creative variants (the Greenfielder burger is amazingand reasonably priced. Pretzel appetizers are incredible as well. I have been back many times and never had a bad experience with food, other than being too full. The beer is really the best part. The tap wall has a variety of local beers and interesting and constantly shifting mix of beers from around the country, not to mention the bottle selection which is equally as impressive. Being able to take home a can is a huge plus since youll find yourself wanting to try more beers than you can drink.
I am a big micro beer guy and loving finding places like this. Huge rotating tap list and an even bigger bottle list. I usually go during happy hour but very rarely am I disappointed. If you like micro, craft, Belgians , IPA, the list just goes on.
Great "neighborhood" bar. My girlfriend and I go often here (maybe about once every week or so). The food isnt great, its bar food, but the beer selection is awesome, and the drafts change weekly and often match the season/weather, which is exciting I think for people who come here often.Lots of brewerys come out here for promotional gigs, and you can get free stuff from them usually.Caveats: This is a place where you should come with the mindset to unwind and relax, drink a beer or two and eat some food, talk with some friends for a couple hours before going home. We often see local families bringing children here... seems like a weird place to bring children, but a lot of families do it, so I think that speaks to the friendliness/openness of the bar. Ive never seen the bar tenders or waiting staff treat customers negatively like some of the reviews here indicate, but then again, they treat all the regulars pretty well, and most of us know that this isnt a place where you come to get a quick bite. A certain amount of patience is required on busy nights, especially on game nights or fridays when this place gets packed.
(1The dad chased me out of the bar and screamed at me for running out on my bill. I explained I left a 10, a 5, and a 1 on the table for a $12 tab. He called me a liar. My guest confirmed i left the money on the table. No apology. (2Waited 45 minutes for an order of nachos and cheese. Finally delivered a basket filled with the crumbs from the bottom of the bag. These are just a few incidents. I cant make this up. Havent been back in over a year and have no intention of going back any time soon.
Good microbrew selection, decent prices. Great people, cool events. Im excited to see what kinds of festivals/tastings are held here. Tons of potential to be one of the top 3 places to drink beer in the city.
My girlfriend and I absolutely love Houghs. We go there regularly for beer and occasionally for a bite to eat. The beer selection is awesome and changes frequently; we always find something new to try as well as old favorites. They have a wide range of beers at a wide range of prices from relatively cheap to expensive and from hard-to-find to well known. The service has always been good. The staff is friendly and very prompt. Weve gotten to know the staff, managers, and owners from going there regularly, and were always greeted by name and with a friendly smile. Although the bar can sometimes be busy, the clientele is never rowdy (except to cheer on the Steelers, Pens, or Bucs). The owners do not tolerate patrons who disrupt the easy going atmosphere of the bar.Although the beer selection would be enough to keep us coming back, we feel very much at home there.
Huge selection of craft beers and not pricey at all. The food is pretty good bar food. Owners and staff are super friendly and keep the place very clean. Great place to watch a game.
