Weinmarkt, 6004 Luzern, Switzerland, Luzern
Overlooking the Reuss river, this elegant hotel in an 18th-century old town building with a facade painted in the style of Hans Holbein is a 4-minute walk from the Luzerner Theater and a 5-minute walk from Natur-Museum Luzern.Understated rooms come with free Wi-Fi, sitting areas and minibars, as well as flat-screen TVs; some offer balconies. Suites offer living areas and river views, and upgraded suites have whirlpool tubs. Room service is available.A breakfast buffet (fee) is served in a posh restaurant with period features such as exposed brick walls. There's also a bar, and a terrace with river views.
Hotel De Balances exceeded was outstanding! We stayed here for the first portion of our honeymoon. The views from our room overlooking the river and old portion of Luzern was amazing. The staff brought us chocolates and decorated our room for our honeymoon. This hotels location was perfect as well. You are right where you want to be in the city. The restaurant is also very good. We had breakfast, and both loved it. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Luzern.
Food is outstanding. Service is excellent.
We had a wonderful stay in a Superior Double Room at this hotel. Location was great, right on the river, with excellent views of the Alps, directly across from the monastery, and only 10 minutes walk from the train station. We were able to walk to all of the places we wished to see and restaurants we wished to eat at. The room was tiny but most are in Europe. A big pro was that the shower was walk-in and not the tub/shower combination. I loved the lamps in the room and the crystals hanging from the ceiling LED lights in the hallway. And the balcony was large enough to sit on and enjoy the view.
Beautiful hotel. Great restaurant tables overlooking the river
Location, room, service and breakfast was excellent.
We only went to the restaurant. The quality of food is appalling. We had an amuse bouche which consisted of only mixed frozen fruits, a random salad with some berries inside, both were ok, nothing special, nothing to boast about. Then we had our main courses consisting of truffle ravioli which were dry and with no taste of flavour of the expected truffel, and white fish from the grill which was partially still cold and had no sauce. When asking for a sauce we were suggested mojo rouge or verde, which when we asked what exactly they were were described as a green or red sauce with herbs or wine... it came out to be pesto... we had fish with pesto...desert was fine.Would not suggest, cannot fathom how they received the Gault Millau Hats...probably ambiente. The view is great from the terace. If you go, stick with a glass of wine.
The review is for the restaurant:- Great and friendly service- Delicious food (I recommend the duck)
Exceptional service, cleanliness, room quality. The satisfaction I relished from Hotel Des Balances is second to none.
Didnt stay at the Hotel, tried the Restaurant. The views are nice but once the food arrives, youll forget about them!!! The Chef likes Berries, in almost everything; the salad, the meat, but its yummy. Very good service, specially if you get funny Patrick as the waiter.. Worth another visit...
Superbe dining, superbe suites, view and service!
Such a classy, beautiful, and perfectly-located hotel!!!!We were so impressed with our stay at Des Balances - the hotel itself is gorgeous, our roomwas large and comfortable, and the hotel’s terrace was incredible!!! We couldn’t get over being right on the river, looking at the fairytale setting that is Lucerne (and enjoyed our complimentary welcome drink!)Absolutely stay here in Lucerne!!! We’d love to come back!
Amazing hotel in the most perfect location in Lucerne! The rooms are clean, modern, spacious, and quiet. It is the ideal place to walk to anything you could need in Lucerne, while also providing a quiet and restful night sleep. The hotel itself is gorgeous with a beautiful terrace overlooking the most iconic scenery in Lucerne. The bar and restaurant is super accommodating, bringing drinks and snacks up to the terrace for you to enjoy. We could not recommend this hotel enough!!
Great location and friendly staff. They are very kind to guest. The view from the balcony was beautiful. Looking forward to future time to come back again
There is no word can describe my experience in this amazing place…♥️🤍 great location… friendly staff…hospitable hotel… they offer us daily one of the best chocolate ever ( läderach)😋😋😋they take care of everything…! If just one coffee capsule is used they bring another one immediately 😍they offer a welcoming drink, when i say I don’t drink wine and alcohol they were so happy to replace it with coffee and tea…they were so kind to us… I’ll come back a gain for sure ♥️🤍🇨🇭… one thing I didn’t like is my room space 😔was toooooo small for 2 adults! And the view ☹️🥲hopefully to get a better one in the future…thanks to you all …you are the best
Fantastic location, fabulous service! Everything is easily available, highly recommended
This hotel was better than we ever expected. They go above and beyond to ensure comfort and convenience.I will say that with the language barrier at the restaurant can be very difficult. But the bartender Patrick was very helpful and even gave us advised on where to go for the best views and pictures. Our breakfast with Ashley was also wonderful.
Waited in the lobby for 20 minutes without being acknowledged. It was the only thing open or we would have left. Once I walked into the restaurant and asked for a table. The staff and server was very rude. The server demanded a tip. The food was mediocre. It looks good but it’s not.
I really wanted to give Hotel des Balances 5 stars as our initial impression was amazing! Unfortunately what transpired and how the hotel managed it was not satisfactory. The good:The restaurant was top tier, the rooms were super clean, classy, and spacious, and the staff we met were cordial and helpful. The location is also convenient to get to all the hotspots youd want to see in Lucerne. The bad:The wifi was very spotty where at times there was not enough bandwidth to run a speed test let alone conduct work business. The showers also do not drain fast enough which most likely caused the issue below where the room above us overflowed their shower causing a major issue. The ugly:At around 7am we were in the suite whirlpool where water started dripping, than eventually pouring into the bathroom from our ceiling rendering it unusual and possibly unsafe and certainly unsanitary. We immediately dried off to report it to the front desk where they did quickly respond within 15 minutes. We changed our morning plans as we were uncertain if we were being moved to another room(possibly even downgraded from our suite). We departed the room and hotel, enjoyed breakfast out, and walked around for about 4 hours until the issue was resolved. The chief technician resolved the issue and was very pleasant, but honestly felt something should have been provided by hotel management for the unsanitary, possibly dangerous situation, and inconvenience for such a nice and expensive room. I quietly stressed how upset we were that after a romantic engagement at Jungfroujoch the day before as well as how we were very displeased with the 4 hour window we couldnt use our room to relax and get ready. I did not want want to make a scene, but this put a damper on our trip.Overall we are very unlikely to stay again, give a good review/rating, or recommend to stay there to others due to the above factors. As stressed to the front desk, it is not Hotel des Balances fault for what happened and we were happy to be in the same room and not to downgrade, but the response in handling the aftermath is what we were truly concerned with. Because of the nonchalant response to our unhappiness it gives me the impression this may happen often where they are unable to offer other means of making a poor situation better or even felt heard from upper management.
Such a nice hotel. The classic modern room is very comfortable and clean, the view out the window is spectacular, service from the staff is second to none. And the location oh wow. Car valet service is very efficient. I couldnt find any shortcomings with Des Balances Hotel, all I have with my wife and 2 children is beautiful memories. I cant wait to come back again. Thanks Des Balances. Love from Indonesia.
We went there for a cocktail in the bar which was very good. The service was good too.
From the start to the end of our 5 course tasting, the chef never ceased to liven our palate. Such and amazing combination of fruits and meat, vegetables and seafood, medley of flavors, to an extent where the unexpected dance of the flavors combine. In a good way that is. The creativity of these combinations and the masterpieces each created onto the dish is nothing shy of an encore. The restaurant is Gaullt Millau rated, the rating here in Switzerland, which proves to be in line with what this restaurant has to offer.
I stayed for 4 nights at this hotel. I made reservation by adding breakfast on the hotel website. I ate only one day on the first day and canceled breakfast for the remaining 3 days. When I checked out , I paid the full cost of the meal. I dont quite understand.
The food in this restaurant was absolutely amazing. We had a lovely 3-course meal and was served by Michaela who was fun, friendly and always ready to help me select wines to pair with my food and which desserts were the best in her opinion! Id give 6-stars if I could – And, more importantly – Ill be visiting again and again.
Wonderful hotel with a great view! Placed in the center of Luzern. Highly recommended!
Beautiful hotel with excellent service and wonderful views.
Beautiful hotel with terraces facing the water. Location is prime - right close to lots of shopping and a short walk (under 10minfrom train. Trains run direct from Zürich airport all day.
We were delayed due to airport issues and missing luggage. The hotel was informed by our travel agent, but When we arrived all was closed, waited 10 minutes at reception, no attention for the problems we had. There was absolutely no empathy from the receptionist. This should be a 4 star hotel, but most 4 star hotels I stayed in had at least some toothbrushes for example. The hotel was also informed that it was our honeynoon, but since the bar was already closed when we arrived, we goud not even get something to drink. They suposedly had a prosecco reserve for us at the bar, but as said, that was closed. The shower had no hot water and no water pressure, it was merely dripping out of the shower. And then at 6:45 we were dusturbed by a nearby church-bell... Very bad experience.
A perfectly located hotel overlooking the Reuss River. Our room was spacious and well furnished, complete with 2 king singles pushed together to make a king double, a large bathroom with a shower/bath combo, a seating area, 2 balconies overlooking the river, TV with multiple channels and multiple languages, and a pod coffee machine. The let down for the hotel however was the restaurant staff serving breakfast. Each day we needed to debate regarding our included breakfast. Each day someone new would insist that we did not have it included and only after some back and forth would they agree to check with reception, after which they would return and apologise admitting we were correct. It was disappointing that we had to do this each morning.
- great wonderful boutique hotel.- romantic and lovely room, overlooking the river, bridge and mountain- worth the $$$$$
Had a nice stay. Very good location where major spots were 5min walking distance. Had problem getting to hotel by car as Google Maps did not lead to front of hotel even though there are streets that allows cars.
Gorgeous view in beautiful and sweet decorated room , extra large bed with clean white linen, all well prepared amenities ,well setting coffee and tea maker also appreciate adorable chocolates and warm welcomed staff ,recommended this sweet hotel!
Having stayed a few hotels in Switzerland for some nights, my expectation for Hotel Des Balance wasn’t too high; however it turned out to be a pleasant surprise, good service and centrally located. Only cons is that it wouldn’t be a convenient hotel for those people having movement difficulties as you’ll have to navigate up a flight of stairs to get to the lift.
The hotel is located directly at the river. The restaurant staff is very friendly and the food delicious. I really recommand this hotel/restaurant if you are walking through the old town of Luzern.
This hotel was in the perfect location, the room was clean, & the restaurant/bar service was incredible. The staff were extremely accommodating, and the view of the river from the balcony was the cherry on top! We highly recommend the dinner servic here. We would absolutely stay again.
Very nice hotel and room. Room had a Bose speaker and the hotel provided complimentary Swiss chocolates and a free glass of Champagne. Great location.
Such a beautiful hotel and kind serviceWe had the most amazing room and view and the restaurant and bar was delicious and so stunningI can highly recommend this place
5 stars for the hotel itself, but this 3 stars is for the restaurant at the hotel (that i believe goes by the same handle).Went way earlier to make a reservation, was told i cannot make a reservation and to just walk in when the time comes. Dinner service starts at 6pm, i walked in at 6:05pm only to be told all the riverside seats are reserved, contrary to what I was told earlier that i cant make a reservation.I was met with the same dark skinned indian looking guy in a suit on both occasions. And on both occasions, this man had his back to the main entrance and pays no notice to entering customers. I had to call out to him to get his attention after waiting patiently at the front counter for a good period of time. Horrendous way to start the dinner.I would stay at the hotel but never visit the restaurant again. Food was not bad but not fantastic either, just average for the price.
Lovely hotel on the lake. Nice rooms, helpful staff. Great location...a walk to everything in town, and close to the train station. Loved sitting at the outdoor bar on the lake and enjoying the view. Many, many restaurants close by.
Very nice experience 👌. Everything amazing.Location and staff soo friendly. Its like 5 stars hotels .even more than.Room size is great. Cleanness also
Beautiful riverside views of Lucerne and a fairly priced diverse menu makes this spot a must visit after a day of sightseeing. Food was delicious, did not get charged for water which is always a plus.
My wife went on tour throughout Europe as a teenager in 1991, as a gift from her parents. She dreams of going back to sleep under those lovely plush duvets with the cool of the Alps fresh refreshing the room with open windows... Now is our turn to treat our teenage children... covid permitting and God on High willing.❤😊
Definitely one of the premier restaurants in Luzern, offering a more gastronomic & "gourmet" menu than other locations. It can be a bit pricey, but the quality of the food is outstanding, the service is top class, and the atmosphere & location are hard to beat. Although I dined inside a few times, sitting outside alongside the river is by far the better experience. The Sunday brunch is also an excellent offering. Highly recommend.
Such a lovely hotel in a superb location, even if driving there is a little tricky! The room we had was quite small but perfectly workable for a few days. The restaurant and bar are really nice with views along the river and a nice terrace, balcony for warmer weather. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The food in the bar and restaurant is excellent and the service is superb, just a shame the breakfast was not included but at least there are several cafe bakery shops in close vicinity!
This hotel was recommended by SBB for an overnight as part of the GoldenPass scenic rail trip. We did that gorgeous trip by buying rail tickets and accommodation separately. That’s a different story though. The hotel itself is fabulous, made even more so during the time of COVID, when the only way to dine in a restaurant is to stay at the associated hotel. The restaurant was first rate, both food and service. You should make a reservation, we did not the first night, but were accommodated anyway after a short stay at the bar. The room, riverside view definitely recommended, was clean, comfortable, and equipped with complimentary artisan chocolates. This is a historic building, with an interesting mural adorning the facade. The location is super convenient.
Nice hotel in the middle of Luzern. The hotel and its services are above average. Housed in a very beautiful building right on the quay. Between the kapellbrücke and spreuerbrücke. The staff was very friendly and helpful.A definite plus is the valet parking service. Even though the hotel can be difficult to approach by car, because of the pedestrian area. Easiest is to drive to parking garage Kesselturm. Then keep north-east over the bridge.
From the friendly and inviting staff to the wonderful rooms with gorgeous views of Lucerne and the river, this place was magnificent! The room was super comfortable with great decor and a cozy bed. The whole place was clean and well kept. Considering the age of the building, you might have thought it was recently constructed, yet with old world charm. Its been 8 months and we want to go back as soon as possible. Do yourself a favor and STAY HERE!!!!
This is the place to stay! The staff is very competent and friendly. The location is really nice on one side is facing the river, on the other side you are in the middle of downtown. I can recommend you to have your breakfast on the terrace with an spectacular view. Just one hint, since the hotel is in the middle of downtown in a pedestrian zone if you choose to go with car, google maps is not able to show you the right way to go, is better to ask the local people for directions.
we were part of a large group of friends that stayed at this hotel. The hotel offers beautiful views of the river and has the plus of working air conditioning. The restaurant couldnt accommodate us because of the large number/views, but seems to be good one. Breakfast is rather on the expensive side (around 35 EU each), but it is tasty and fresh. The rooms are not too big, but also not extremely small. Overall a good experience.
An excellent hotel in the middle of Lucerne right on the river. It is well located for everything on foot. The hotel is old and full of character with a painted front and rooms with great views out over the river. Many of the rooms have balconies. The staff were friendly, polite and accommodating. The hotel in general was spotless and well cared for. The room we stayed in was of a good size and the bed was very comfortable. It is the little touches like the universal travel plug adapter and the “Good Night” chocolate left in your room in the evening which add the gloss to this establishment. Would I stay here again? Absolutely.
We stayed at this hotel for two nights in early March. It is located conveniently within 10 min walking distance of train station. Beautiful view. We booked the Romantic suit on first floor with balcony overlooking the river. The weather was a bit cold but we still used the balcony. You cannot ask for a more beautiful scenery. The staff are very friendly and helpful giving you recommendations and instructions on how to get to places. The rooms are very clean exactly as shown on the website. The room service was unbelievably quick every time we asked for something they were by our door within a minute. There are lots of cafes and shops around. We will definitely choose this hotel if we come back to Luzern.
