Hotel Walhalla St.Gallen - in Appenzell, Switzerland
To note, the room DOES NOT have a minibar, which was abit unexpected for the price. We had some great customer service from the Switz staff at the front desk, unfortunately there was an experience with other front desk staff that left us feeling abit uncomfortable. A small smile does go a long wayDefinitely also cannot complain about the location of the hotel. Very close to the train station
Amazing hotel right at the city center. breakfast was easily the best I’ve ever had in a 4 star hotel. Beds and parking solution in the nearby underground garage are great as well. Would recommend.(I don’t understand why people complain about the staff tho)
Angelica is the best receptionist at Hotel Walhalla St Gallen. She proactively resolves issues at hand and my hotel stay here becomes a very memorable one.Additionally the room is clean, spacious and comfortable. Would recommend this hotel to friends and family! However, just for sharing, do bring your own toothpaste and toothbrush as they are not provided by the hotel.
If customer service matters to you, perhaps avoid this hotel. My wife caught covid two days before we were meant to be staying. I called to defer our non-refundable reservation given the exceptional circustances but they refused. Given this callous approach to customer care Ill certainly never choose this hotel again, nor their partner hotel in Zurich ("Hotel Josef"under the same management. I hope they spend the money they stole from us wisely.Update: the hotels patronising reply that "sometimes a rate is just what it is: non-refundable is not refundable" shows perfectly their attitude - its certainly not that their customers come first. Yuck.
I would love to have stayed at Walhalla - however my husband and I tested positive for Covid-19 the day before travelling. We are responsible so despite the fact neither the Swiss or British require tests, decided not to travel and expose others to the illness. We had chosen a non-refundable rate, which is on us, but we hoped the hotel would be understanding. They declined to refund or even offer an alternative date. Sorry to say we’ll never stay here - and that this encourages people to travel even if they’re sick!
My second stay at the recently refurbished Walhalla. I do like the spacious rooms, the bed is fantastic and I slept like a baby.Breakfast is fine, but the eggs were a bit cold (I ate as soon as it was available too), and no toaster on offer.Check in was very slow and there was a queue for some time. Location is perfect for travelling as it’s directly opposite the bus and rail stations, but the glazing is quite good.
Impressive hotel stay in St Gallen! The hotel room is big and spacious with all the amenities and more. And the plus point of all, super close to the train station that give access to the rest of the city. Highly recommended!
Had a pleasant stay here. Comfortable bed and quiet rooms. (Bit too warm temp).Very friendly staff. Marcello prepared amazing gin cocktails. The breakfast is very generous and they have great coffee. Also some parking available (limited). Very central and just a few steps away from great restaurants and bars, train station and shopping street, and of course the cathedral. Price is medium but worth it.
Amazing hotelGood breakfastNice staffWould go there again for sure!
Nicely appointed rooms, eco friendly interiors, beautiful bathrooms with soaps in Eco friendly containers that minimize wastes, great water pressure for the sinks and shower and most importantly extremely comfortable beds and comforters. Nowhere else to stay in St Gallen. The breakfast is awesome with that delicious bread....
I do not recommend accommodation in this hotel to anyone. The hotel looks visually nice, but the behavior of the staff is unacceptable. The receptionist showed us where we could park our car. Then, the next day, we received a fine from the police for not being able to park at this place for CHF 240. We tried to solve it with the hotel, which in 1 month told us many excuses and wrong information why we got a fine (we verified it on the police station), but no compensation for this very unpleasant situation. Do not believe the information from the hotel. We consider such behavior towards the customers to be very unfair and unfriendly. We are disappointed with their approach to clients. It is clear that in the first place is not the customer but the profit. I would like to warn other tourists against accommodating in this hotel, it can cost you, as well as us enough money and many problems.
I dont usually write these reviews, but I feel strongly that there should be zero tolerance for businesses taking advantage of the pandemic. We had to cancel a 10-day trip owing to travel restrctions and Hotel Walhalla were the only greedy ones out of the several hotels we were staying at. All we asked was to move the booking to a later date when we would physically be allowed in the country.Apparently, the pandemic is over in their eyes, but case numbers beg to differ. If you are staying in St. Gallen, I would highly recommend supporting any other business but this one.If your car breaks down make sure you walk to the hotel..
The kind of places that doesn’t refund even in case of force majeure i.e. new travel restrictions due to Coronavirus. All we asked for was a voucher.Think about it when you’ll make your reservation. Is it the kind of business you want to support? Plenty of other places in St Gallen.
The room was very clean and had lots of great goodies for us.We had the best evening at the bar. My friend and I could really relax. The man at the bar was so nice and funny. He was so friendly and in the morning we had a great chat with him, whilst eating breakfast. Competent employees make the difference between a mediocre and a great hotel. We would book at the Walhalla anytime again!
I really like this place, the servants are amazingly good, the rooms are big and clean, the location is strategic, and the food is also delicious, so if you go to St. Gallen dont forget to stay at the Walhalla Hotel, I highly recommend it. thanks.
Very nice modern hotel in the centre of St. Gallen, directly opposite the railway station. The rooms and bedrooms are spacious. There is a coffee and tea facilities in each room. The breakfast has a very good selection. 4 star hotel at 3 star price. The only negative point is the overnight car parking, it is cheaper to park in the public underground car park on the other side of the road.
Outstanding design. Really comfortable beds and a very good breakfast. Really recommend
Really good value hotel with a hot buffet breakfast in the morning and solid rooms with good service. We stayed here for four nights and you can get a ten minute bus into the centre of town so its perfectly located. Will come back son !!!
Amazing breakfasts! And the newly remodeled hotel is beautiful.
I usually dont leave bad reviews but this time Id rather have people avoid this hotel, for their own good. I had three problems in three days. 1. Wifi is generally unreliable and the second day it just didnt work. Employees were unable to fix the problem. I didnt work that night. 2. The third night the cleaning person left the window open and when I came back the room was freezing. It was -12 outside. Theres no thermostat in the rooms, no way to regulate the temperature. I had to wait more then one hour for the concierge to show up. He was again unable to solve the problem. I asked to change room but he replied that they were fully booked. I have reason to doubt it as we were not in high season and the hotel looked quite empty. No alternative solution was provided and I slept in a freezing room. 3. I was told that breakfast is served till 10.30. When I showed up at the restaurant at 10am, the waitress started to shout (!at me (in German). She brought me to the concierge who told me breakfast was till 10. Apparently I was told wrong by the previous concierge. Again, no solution was provided for a mistake of theirs and I had no breakfast. All in all, not recommended at all.
Simple, functional rooms. Great showers and great restaurant.
Very close to the train station. Provides free breakfast. Lighting in rooms are dim. Cleanliness is alright. Has very basic shower/bath/hand wash, not face towels. Theres a good nespresso machine in our room, very good! Reception was very helpful too.
A value for money hotel with essential amenities adjacent to St. Gallen rail station. Has pleasant and cheerful staff which add value to the service. Has a bar and restaurant.
Well located adjacent main train station and key attractions in St Gallen, including Christmas markets. Super friendly staff and comfortable accommodation.
Friendly staff, comfy bed, good breakfast. What else do you need?
Nice hotel and place. Strange choice of wash basin, made me feel like in prison.
Nice hotel, conveniently located. But they should not close their restaurant on Sunday.
Its ok but not sure if its 4 stars hotel. Room was funny made but not the most comfortable. Too cold in the room, bathroom and the rest of room are in one space and sink was really hard to use and not to get totally wet. Not cheap indeed and comfort didnt follow the price.
Great place to stay and views of the city. The daily breakfast is delicious too!
An overall good hotel in the centre of St. Gallen. The rooms were very clean and the beds were comfortable. The breakfast was an ordinary breakfast buffet. The slight downside was the fact that we had to pay extra for parking. The hotel is quite expensive, but it is expected in Switzerland.
Clean and a good location, not a bad hotel but poor breakfast, unfriendly service and overpriced for what its offering. There are much better hotels in the close surroundings. Also its never a 4-star hotel, more a 3-star-level.
Great hotel in super location. Just opposite the train station
Nice hotel, really friendly staff, good breakfast
Not bad. Friendly service, nice rooms, good location in the town.
Basic clean hotel, but not as standard as being a four star hotel
I was with Dano dewi, so read his review for our full story and Ill keep it short. It was late they gave us a room breakfast was nice and included, wifi is quick staff are super acomodating !
I was stuck in St Gallen at close to midnight. My phone was on 4% and it was raining. Check-in for the hotel I had originally booked into was closed and had been since 22:00... Same with the three other hotels Id tried. In a last ditch attempt I called the Hotel Walhalla praying this wouldnt be closed too. It was not. I successfully booked my relatively inexpensive room. The desk staff were fantastic and took care of me, even offering a Europlug to Swiss Plug adapter as well as free (quickWiFi. The room was clean, well equipped and warm. Breakfast was complimentary and consisted of a vast array of cold foods, hot foods and drinks. All in all, a fantastic Hotel with great customer service.
Great location, unexpectedly nice rooms (when you compare to the outsideand friendly service. The food at the brasserie is amazing.
Stayed for one night in a "Deluxe Room". Completely satisfied with room, service and breakfast. Very central location and free WiFi. Some rooms may be a little warm in summer though.
