Hotel MONOPOL Luzern in Luzern
Description
Despite the hotel being dated and situated in a busy intersection beside the train station….the staff showed professionalism and tries their best to accommodate our requests….the location is unbeatable if you are using Lucerne to explore the nearby mountains and hiking trails…
MoreVery nice hotel downtown. Just across the bridge from the Old Town. The waiter in the restaurant was so pleasant and funny. The rooms are very comfortable. Nice roof top bar, but it was packed.
MoreNice and clean hotel in a very old building
Great location! No air conditioning.
Convenient location but also noisy even around 3am if room facing road. Room furniture and carpet are quite old. In summary not worth the price.
MoreOne star hotelNot cleanVery oldThe room very small
Their is no air conditioner and no iron in the room when u request they insist you to upgrade the room for extra charge.Room is smelly and humid 😩Not a good decision.. only it has prime location in the city.
MoreHorrid experiencePLEASE DO NOT BOOK1. No AC- should have been made clear to us when we were booking, not after the fact and not because we didnt book the higher category rooms.2. Extra 50 CHF deducted without my authorization a week before my stay- yes this might be more incidentals and refundable but i believe i must authorize this in person.3. Room cleanliness was bad. Sheets were dirty and lots of dust and spiderwebs.4. Lift has no security to any of the floors. During my stay, main lobby doors were left wide open till wee hours of the night5. No telephones in the room to even ask for assistance or any requests6. No slippers, robes that youd expect at a 4 star hotel no matter what category of room you book.7. Free WIFI but no reception in my room- lolFellow travellers please stay away!
MoreThier is room without AC, AND OTHER BASIC AMENITIES,ITS ROOM IS LIKE SERVANT ROOM, AND EVEN SINGLE BED SIZE FOR 2 PEAPLE , VERY WORST EXPERIENCE
MoreGreat to be back. Ive been here many times but ad I was bringing my fussy wife I was worried that it might not be up to her expectations. My fears were unfounded as she too loved the Monopol. Unlike many other reviews we thought the Breakfast just right. Room big and airy.Bedroom too , had fan and heater/cooler.Did not visit the Suite on this occasion, but if you do stay make sure you go up for a drink. It is worth it just for the view over the town and Lake.
MoreThis is not a 4 star hotel but to me this is a 1 star hotel. No AC, small lobby, mediocre customer service, lift is unsecured anyone can come up to your floor.
MoreNot much amenities in the Hotel room. Buffet breakfast is pretty average. But located well
MoreWe were put in a newly refurbished suite, which was excellent. Service at the front desk and by the housekeeper exemplary. Breakfast room left a bit to be desired, and is perhaps the next to be refurbished? Small, crowded, and some of the service flows nor well thought through. Overall a great value hotel, and v central too. Recommended.
MoreSomeone stole my sunglasses in the toilet ! I forgot them and went back to search after 3-5 minutes; but they were not there, and the personal of the bar were not willing to help me to find them. The guy from the reception told me "we have nothing to do with this"; so rude(. The situation like that its not usual for switzerland; take care and avoid this places; it´´s not safe!
MoreI thought it was a good place . Location is awesome. We had the top floor facing the lake . Don’t forget to buy beer underground where there is a mall that sells beer, wine and food CHEAPER ..no A/C that’s why I gave it 4 stars plus it pretty loud with the windows open . Which is a must.
MoreRight across the street from the station, walking distance to old town, good breakfast and great staff. Can definitely recommend and hope to be back soon!
MoreVery quiet hotel room with a nice rooftop and a good servicing
Its a very conveniently located hotel in Lucerne. It is right across the road from the train and metro station, so you will not struggle to find it. There is a Starbucks in the lobby and a McDonalds on the outside. There are lots of eateries nd shopping close by. The views are quite spectacular. The rooms are decent and comfortable, but is very dated. I suppose given the age of this hotel its perfectlyunderstandable. The pillow and duvet are great, but the mattress is not the best. The bathroom has all the amenities and the water pressure is really strong. The breakfast was limited, but more than adequate for most people who dont want to over do it.The wifi signal was not great in my room. It was strongest on the loo, but then again, thats where I needed it the most ;)
MoreIts location is great, right in the centre of the town and next to the train station. The hotel itself is very old, you can hear the floor squeaking and the rooms have that nasty overused carpet. They dont offer slippers so make sure you bring your own so you dont get veruca on your feet! 🤣
MoreVery disappointed with how our room was structured. The glass door on the bathroom is wrong considering the fact that the room has two single beds and the one watches directly that glass door and whoever is using the bathroom or the shower can be seen from the person sitting on the bed. The toilet is too close to the wall making it hard for the person using it to sit or use the toilet paper. Breakfast wasn’t something special and the elevator was slow and always crowded forcing us to take our suitcases down 5 floors of stairs. Good thing about this hotel was the Starbucks below it and the Covid-19 test center.
MoreVery beautiful but rooms very warm at night. Can open the windows but its loud outside. Some staff was friendly. Roof top bar was the best part of the hotel.
MoreVery friendly staff. Ideal location and very easy access. Affordable prices and the room was perfect. Everything was as we had asked. Definitely recommend
MoreLocation was really the only good thing about this place. Rooms werent ready when we arrived then once we went to them the beds werent made. While doing my daily workout I noticed a massive thick bunch of spider webs under the shelf near my bed and the TV only showed German TV shows even though it stated there were English programs. Also the restaurant in the hotel only opened for breakfast NO LUNCH or DINNER even for hotel guests
MoreI loved this hotel!First a few points people might not like:- Since it is located in the middle of the city, just in front of the train station, there is some constant noise. If you are sensitive to noise, take this into account. Personally, it did not bother me.- Since the building is very old and therefore protected, air conditioning in the rooms is officially not allowed to install, only a fan is allowed. We found the temperature very good, even on a 30°C day, but again, if you are sensitive, this should be considered.- The breakfast buffet is rather small, if you wish to have a big choice, this might be a point to consider. Now, why all these things dont prevent me from giving the hotel best rating:- The house itself is incredibly beautiful. It is very old and very chic, reminds of the Parisian style of architecture, and was well preserved.- We got a free upgrade, since rooms were still empty in Corona-times- Our room in the corner had the best view towards the lake. It was spatious, nicely decorated and had everything I desired. The bathroom was big with a huge bathtub.- In the booklet all necessary information was given (in some other hotels, one is rather left alone)- People were very friendly- I have slept so well that my first thought when I woke up was that I would always want to sleep in this bed
MoreMy stay here was good. Liked the rooms and the view. Breakfast was also good. Major drawback was no Air Conditioning and the reason behind this was the building is really old and installing AC shall ruin the "facade" of the building. Another drawback was they provide you with 2 single beds joined instead of 1 double/master bed (despite of . Since I went there with my husband, I was really disappointed with the above set up.
MoreLocation is great but no lake view, entrance/reception is bad with full of shops and cafes. Definitely not a 4 star property. Old property with wooden flooring covered with carpet that keeps making noise while walking. No tea- coffee maker in room. Okay breakfast with limited options. Friendly staff.I asked for King size bed or single mattress double bed but they just joined twin beds to make a double bed, it is very uncomfortable to sleep.
MoreLocation was perfect. Train station was across the street and lots of restaurants within an easy walk. Staff was very friendly. Because of the historic building AC wasnt available for our room. We were there early June and it was hot but a fan was provided to help. Room was modern and very very nice.
